Kukutente23: You're just one person. Except you have the powers, you can't make the change you want. Calling me unity beggar might make you feel better and raise your shoulder in empty feeling of superior individualism but fact remains you are not in a position to do anything about it and the critical stakeholders from the East don't share your sentiments.
No senator from the East has ever raised the question of our nationhood not when the East had the Senate presidency for 8 years, or the deputy Senate presidency for 8 years, or the deputy speakership now. So if you're looking for unity beggars, look no further than your political leaders!! This is one very unintelligent post, you mean your selected critical stakeholders? 90% of Igbos are no longer interested in your good for nothing country, if you still doubt then travel to Igbo land and make such comment let me see something, anyway you can continue to live in denial and delusion. |

Kukutente23: Of course Awo was a sectionalist and he had no pretensions about it. He believed each tribe had a right to determine how they want to be in the nigerian context. He never claimed any utopian Nigerian nationalist. He was for his tribe and the progress of his tribe. Same with Bello. It was Azikiwe that was forming nationalist yet he went and aligned with the biggest ethno-religious bigots in Nigeria then. Bello preferred to be northern premier than Nigerian PM. That's the person Azikiwe chose over Awo yet you think it is Awo that's the problem. You're deluded!! Are you even making sense? why can't we correct that mistake now after 60 years of failed marriage? |

Politics › Re: Flashback: Why I Opposed Awolowo On Secession - Zik by Wahabfuture: 5:31pm On Jun 06, 2024 |
Kukutente23: What opportunity did Awo have to secede? Besides, Awo never said he wanted secession. His stand has always been that the North is the main problem and needs to be tamed. Him and Ahmadu Bello never saw eye to eye. Awo would never enter into any agreement with the north. In fact, he was actively working to liberate the Northern minorities from the core north, something that if achieved would have made Nigeria more balanced. The question is why Azikiwe refused to see all that fact. Balewa already said in 1954 that the south is the biggest threat to the north. He talked about how the north should be wary of the south and ensure they don't have a upper hand. So how could Zik have entered an alliance with the north and later turn around to support secession? It sounds so stupid if you ask me Who will believe this trash? Awo is nothing but bags of bigotry |

TimeManager: Today is the consequences of yesterday's decisions. It would be extremely difficult today to introduce such a clause ever again, that opportunity is gone. Zik was the leader of eastern region and NCNC, with selected representatives from his party, they were loud and clear that ibos were opposed to a secession clause and any other person advocating it should be charged for treason. Zik and his caucus were speaking for the ibos.

UncleAyo: 1.
Whataboutism is a rhetorical technique or logical fallacy that involves deflecting criticism or difficult questions by responding with a counter-accusation or a different issue altogether. It often seeks to discredit an opponent's position by charging them with hypocrisy without directly addressing the initial argument.
Characteristics of Whataboutism
Deflection: Instead of addressing the issue at hand, the person redirects the conversation to a different issue.
Counter-Accusation: It often involves pointing out flaws or faults in the critic or their group to undermine their argument.
Avoidance: It avoids direct engagement with the original criticism or question.
Examples of Whataboutism
Political Debate:
Criticism: "Your policy is harming the environment." Response: "What about your party's policy on healthcare that left many uninsured?" International Relations:
Criticism: "Country A is violating human rights." Response: "What about Country B? They have a terrible human rights record too." Personal Arguments:
Criticism: "You didn't complete your part of the project." Response: "What about you? You were late last time."
Why Whataboutism is Problematic
Evasion: It prevents constructive dialogue and resolution by shifting the focus away from the issue at hand.
False Equivalence: It often creates a false equivalence between the original issue and the counter-issue, implying they are equally problematic without proper justification.
Undermines Accountability: It can be used to deflect responsibility and avoid addressing valid criticisms.
How to Handle Whataboutism
1. Redirect to the Original Issue: Acknowledge the counter-issue briefly but steer the conversation back to the original point.
e.g "That may be a concern, but let's focus on addressing the current issue."
2. Separate Issues: Clarify that each issue should be addressed on its own merits.
e.g "Both issues are important and deserve attention, but let's resolve this matter first."
3. Demand Accountability: Insist on addressing the original criticism directly.
e.g "Before we move on to other topics, can we discuss how to fix this specific problem?"
By recognizing and appropriately responding to whataboutism, constructive discussions can be maintained and accountability can be enforced. confusionist stop making joke of yourself and accept that you can't live without the great Igbos in your one Nigeria
