What a miss by the French

With my own little football knowledge, I suggest that the Super Eagles should play to give the impression to the Argentines that they are looking for a draw. Messi efforts should be frustrated, he should not be given the chance to dribble or shoot with his left leg close to the goal area. This might frustrate the Argentines as they will be more and more desperate to score as time goes on by giving a little attention to their defence. Nigeria should be ready to capitalised on any opportunity to counter attack, utilised the opportunities to score goals. If we could score first in the 1st half, I believe Argentina will be shocked, be under more tension and become more frustrated which could only mean an open wide road to concede more goals for them. We should also try to avoid unnecessary back and short passes around the goal areas and also to avoid silly mistakes in the box 18 that could lead to a penalty kick. Phychologically, Nigeria is more stable as a result of our last match and in an advantage to win the match than Argentina.

Many people might not like what I am about to say next however I will still say it. "I am not that really confident with our defence and hopefully they do better today. If all goes well, I predict the match to end 2-1 in favour of the the Super Eagles.

This is Nentawe Yilwatda inputs of the Super Eagles going forward and I found this interesting:


1. In the two matches against Croatia and Iceland, we sat deep, passing long balls to our attack which never worked. Our attackers are of average height so using long balls against those giants was a tactical mistake. Moses, Musa, Eteobo, et al are of average height. They change their approach in the second half and the difference was clear. Don’t change such joker.

2. Our first halves are normally lethargic, woeful and we shy away from the third quarter of our opponents. Slow buildup and back passing of the ball instead of fast breaking to capitalize on the speed of Musa, Moses and Iheanacho was missing. We can’t afford to be a second half team against a big team like Argentina.


3. We should be worried about our defence because we conceded two penalties in two consecutive matches and they are both needless tackles in the 18.

4. Ebuehi impressed in the left wing back role. He is a modern defender with eye on attack. He was the game changer. His introduction gave the eagles width and stretched the play. In my last analysis, i suggested he should start the game against Iceland and I look forward to seeing him starting against Argentina instead of coming from the bench.Our problem has always been our inability to create chances and he seems to be the solution.


5. Eteobo impressed playing forward with Mikel playing deeper. He should start ahead of Iwobi. He is fast, with excellent runs and incisive passes to dangerous attacking channels. Mikel and Ndidi should remain as defensive shield to the last three men.

6. We should keep Musa and Moses in the wings but Moses must be consistent for 90 minutes. The coaching crew must sit him down. No big boy on such stage. The interest of the team is bigger than any player.

I will adopt a 4-3-1-2 formation when attacking to give width and spread to the team but contract to 4-5-1 formation when defending.

They have actually been doing that in their last 2 matches. The question is, are they kicking it enough so far and are they going to kick it better to win against Argentina. I personally don't see Argentina / Messi coming out to lose their 3rd match. Almost everyone have had a mixed feelings about the Super Eagles performance so far. What do you guys think that our Super Eagles needs to do to win against Argentina. In my own opinion our team work is slightly over average. Defence is not as good as it ought to be. Midfield is OK but it could be better. Finally one last thing I would like to see our Super Eagles alive on the field and play with more passion against Argentina. Maybe this might bring us the victory that we all need to sail through into the 2nd round of the tournament. This is just my own opinion. I might not be fully correct but I can't wait to hear yours.
