Most of you supporting this motion of the church helping the "poor" have an entitlement mentality. Lets face it, the way some people talk, you will feel the church has to be giving them money for their upkeep, while they sit down and do nothing.
The bible says "IF you do not work, you do not eat!!". The church should help people out that are down, with a view to the person getting back on their feet so they do not become liabilities.
Most of these churches you are criticizing have welfare programs, and some of their pastors and co are paying school fees for loads of people you will never hear about, or publicized on TV.
Leave the church alone...and face your own! Like Ghandi said...."Be the change you want to see in the world!". When last did you feed a beggar?
Some people just do not feel comfortable seeing men of God or the church prosper while there are poor people around, and you need to know that even if I sell all my stuff in this world...the poor will still be amongst us.....and its not due to lack of the church not helping out....so face your own, and leave the church alone!

Good to see so many ex-mays on Nairaland. I remember madam marking my essays free of charge. It was an honor knowing her and Doctor. I remember back in my day, doctor would be waiting for us at 5:15 am in the morning without his shirt for our morning exercises or "Physical Jerks".

This woman left the comforts of the UK to come suffer with her husband in an unknown country and stuck with him for over 60 years. Compare this with some (not all) of our ladies today who will tell a young man with a vision that "they didn't come to the world to suffer"

I didn't want to comment on this thread, but after seeing some responses, I have to give my own contribution. To people involving God in this, please stop. This accident was as a result of human error and carelessness, and God had nothing to do with that. This world is governed by laws, and there is a law of "cause and effect". You do not keep flying a 22 year old unmaintained plane who had hydraulic problems, and bypass all quality checks and not expect something like this to happen.
If you are pushed off a building or you jump off a building, you will be subject to the law of gravity and hit the ground, irrespective of your age, sex, and religion.
God and I dare say, the devil had no part in this..this is an effect of negligence, corruption, low standards of quality and disregard for human life, and people paid the price. We might not be able to answer why the pastors, prophets, etc died...but instead of blaming God or the devil..lets blame the real devils...the corruption that lead to this.....oh and the Indian senior management of Dana have fled the country...

Cause and effect..you can't violate natural principles and go scot free...even God respects those principles.
