PoliticsLai Mohammed Partners NTDC To Grow Nigeria’s Tourism Industry by Walecoy(op): 7:14am On Feb 26, 2020
The Nigerian tourism industry is set for speedy development as the Ministry of Information and Culture, in synergy with the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), is set to come up with a new tourism policy for the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alh. Lai Mohammed disclosed this during his working visit to the Corporation’s headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Alh. Mohammed explained that the policy portends great avenue for the development of the nation’s tourism industry, “and it will no doubt lead to an influx of foreigners into Nigeria to appreciate the potentials that abound in the country – our food, music, film, culture and fashion industries which are subsectors of the tourism network.”

Mohammed, who noted that Nigeria made $53 million from film and $51 million from the music industries respectively last year, described Tourism as the fastest-growing sector in Nigeria economy, which, according to him, employs more than one million people, though with the capacity of employing seven million people.

Alh. Mohammed while commending the NTDC’s TourNigeria initiative noted that the NTDC is sitting on a keg of unexplored potentialities. He added that the Corporation also can harness the huge potentials of Nigeria to attract people to Nigeria, “because there are many reasons people should come to Nigeria.

“Nigeria is a country of colours, with 250 ethnic groups, good culture and almost all-year-round good weather. We are blessed with a good music industry that has become global. Our fashion is celebrated globally. Nigeria also has good religious tourism, with lots of people coming to Nigeria every day for religious tourism.”

The Information and Culture minister while commenting on the visa-on-arrival policy for African nationals which began operation since the beginning of this year, said with the policy, the tourism industry will be better off, realise its full potentials and generate more revenue into government coffers and increase the fortune of operators in the industry.

While welcoming the minister, the Director-General of NTDC, Folorunsho Coker identified a paucity of funding as one of the critical problems besetting tourism development in Nigeria aside legislative framework to institutionalise the sector.

He promised not to rest on his oars until the ‘Tour Nigeria’ and ‘Nigerian Flavour’ twin programmes he conceived are driving to their full potentials and replicated in all states of the federation.

Tour Nigeria is a tourism brand, created by the NTDC in 2017, under the Coker-led administration, to promote domestic tourism in Nigeria.

Coker revealed that the Corporation is deploying digital platforms and strategies to revolutionise the sector, saying “We are embracing digital transformation tools to gain more mileage and penetration to sell the Nigerian flavours – music, film, fashion and food to the global world.”

The NTDC boss then reiterated his road map for the Nigerian Tourism, a five-point action plan – acronymic CHIEF (Corporate Governance & Regulations, Human Capital Development, Infrastructural Development, Events and Marketing, and Finance & Investment) – to promote and develop the tourism industry by promoting domestic tourism and encouraging ease of doing business in Nigeria.

PoliticsTAC, NTDC Agree To Collaborate To Strengthen Tourism by Walecoy(op): 10:15pm On Feb 20, 2020
The Lagos State Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf has said that the state government was prepared to collaborate with the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) to strengthen tourism in the state and in Nigeria.

Speaking during a visit to the Director-General of the Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC), Mr Folorunsho Coker aka Folly Coker in Abuja on Wednesday, Akinbile-Yusuf said that her ministry would take advantage of the unique opportunity provided by NTDC to reach out to major tourism stakeholders in Africa.

“This collaboration will provide us with the opportunity to further market Lagos as a must-visit destination in Africa and the world.

“Lagos State is prepared to collaborate with NTDC in areas that will give recognition to creative arts and tourism development.

“Lagos is a preferred destination for business, leisure and entertainment,’’ she said.

Reacting, Mr Folorunsho Coker called on state governments to collaborate with the Federal Government in the joint efforts to boost tourism in their localities.

He said that the visit was necessitated by the need for states to collaborate with the Federal Government to effectively tap into tourism potential in their localities.

The Director-General urged other states in the federation to emulate Lagos in its rapprochement towards the Federal Government for mutual benefits of both levels of government.

“When the Federal Government and the Lagos State Government come together on a project, success is guaranteed. It is like saying when both parties clap, the whole of Africa will hear.

“Tourism has huge revenue-generating potential and it is good for the government at all levels to come together and tap optimum benefits of this potential,’’ Coker said.

He urged other states in the federation to emulate Lagos State by mapping out collaborative strategies with the federal government to develop tourism and other sectors of the economy.

Akinbile-Yusuf was accompanied on the visit by Mr Babatubnde Olaide-Mesewaku, Permanent Secretary, Lagos Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, and other top officials of the ministry.

PoliticsTit For Tat: Jumoke Okoya-thomas Shuns Godmother, Kemi Nelson’s Birthday Party by Walecoy(op):
Former House of Representatives member, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas has also shunned the 64th birthday party of All Progressives Congress (APC) Southwest Women Leader, Chief Mrs. Kemi Nelson.

This latest development has been seen as social observers as retaliation to Kemi Nelson for shunning the 5th year remembrance of her dad, Chief Molade Okoya-Thomas last weekend in Lagos.

Before now, many have seen Kemi Nelson as the godmother of Lagos APC Women Leader, Jumoke Okoya-Thomas as they remain inseparable before the unfortunate incident that tore them apart like a worn-out garment.

PoliticsWhy Kemi Nelson Shunned Chief Molade Okoya-thomas’ 5th Year Remembrance Event by Walecoy(op):
The silent feud between All Progressive Party (APC) women leaders, Hon. Jumoke Okoya-Thomas and Chief Kemi Nelson are gradually generating into a family squabble as the latter shunned Chief Okoya Thomas 5th year remembrance.

The event which was held at the Oriental Hotels in Lekki witnessed some of the big wigs in the society and political landscape of Lagos, all present to honor the late Asoju Oba of Lagos.

BusinessUntold Story Of How Former Bank MD, Yemi Adeola Handed Over To His Protege by Walecoy(op):
If Yemi Adeola wanted to prolong as the MD/CEO of Sterling Bank, he had no shortage of sit-tight leaders in the political arena and world of business to emulate.

But unlike those fatuous Emperors for life who have turned whole countries and organizations into their personal kingdoms, Yemi knows that maintaining the status quo for too long will lead to stagnation.

After 14 years of service as a founding director and 10 years as substantive chief executive officer of Sterling Bank, Yemi felt the time was right to move on to other adventures.

But unlike the situation with some other banks where the replacement of a CEO led to civil war among senior management, the process with Sterling Bank was smooth and gradual.

The net was cast wide in search of suitable candidates to replace the indefatigable Adeola, at the end of which Abubakar Suleiman emerged as the chosen one.

Rather than thrust him abruptly into the financial sector pond where he would be at risk of being eaten by sharks, Suleiman was gradually groomed into the role.

Yemi, no doubt, has made so much money for himself as the bank MD. While too many of his peers, gained from their wealth only the fear of losing it, Yemi gained from his wealth, comfort, contentment and a deep sense of purpose.

Culture‘we Don’t Recognize Hakeem Ajasa As The Next Oniru Of Iruland’ – Abisogun Family by Walecoy(op):
Abisogun Family has described a report in a section of the media that the former Chief Security Officer (CSO) to ex-governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, Mr. Hakeem Ajasa has been picked as the next Oniru of Iruland in Lagos State as fake news.
According to the family, the selection of Ajasa, a Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) as the next Oniru of Iruland, is kangaroo and it is not known to the entire family.
The family said in a public notice titled; “Fake News By A Section of Abisogun Ruling House” that the “public and all interested parties are put on notice of the kangaroo selection of a person unknown to the entire Oniru Family to rule over their land and fill the currently vacant Oniru Chieftaincy stool.”
The family, who described themselves as Cheated Members of Abisogun Ruling House, alleged in the notice that was released to the media on Friday that being a policeman, they had information from reliable sources that Akeem Ajasa had harassed, intimidated and threatened other members of his ruling house.
“We also have information that under the table exchange of funds have taken place and the result of all these illegalities is the kangaroo selection.

CrimeCrime: Man Caught With Dead Baby In A Suitcase In Abuja by Walecoy(op): 7:50am On Dec 03, 2019
Residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja were taken aback on Sunday September 16, 2012, when a suspected ritual killer, Mr. Usman Inuwa was caught with a dead baby stuffed in a suitcase at Tipper garage near Gwarimpa in Abuja

It was gathered that Inuwa was arrested on a tip-off, but another source said that the conductor of the bus he entered asked him to bring his suitcase so it could be stored properly and the man vehemently refused.

"Suspecting a foul play, the conductor asked him what was inside the suitcase, but he refused to reveal what was there.

"As the man tried to leave the bus, the conductor and others seized the suitcase from him and found the dead boy inside," said a source.

The source added that upon interrogation at the scene of the incident, the suspect was asked to name his accomplices, especially as they noticed that he was having discussions with one of the passengers in the bus, who had left to buy some items prior to when the vehicle would move.

A mob later reportedly gathered to deal with Usman Inuwa, and questioned him about how he came about the dead body and the whereabouts of the man they had seen with him earlier.

Sources said that the man, whose name was later given as Mr. Vincent Ovie Adjarho had to beat a retreat after buying the items he went for, when he overheard the mob shouting "where is that your friend, he must know about this dead boy."

Inuwa allegedly told the police, who arrived the scene of the incident later that the man they saw with him was a neighbour with whom he lived in the same compound and that he was not involved in the murder case of the three-year-old little boy.

A source revealed that Inuwa was forced to disclose his residential address to the police during interrogation and that the police insisted on arresting Vincent, who they said must know about the crime since they both sat together in the bus and were seen discussing.

Investigations revealed that Mr. Vincent Ovie Adjarho is nowhere to be found as he had to run for his dear life over a matter sources said he knew nothing about.

It was learnt that the F.C.T Police Area command Gwarimpa has arrested the mother of Vincent for questioning on the whereabouts of her son.

"The mother told the police in her statement that her son was missing as the family of the victim had promised to kill him if he is seen anywhere.

"But I can tell you that this is one of the ways Nigeria Police implicate innocent members of the public. They insisted that Inuwa must implicate the man the conductor said he was discussing with in the vehicle before the man left the scene to buy soft drink and snack," said a source.

The F.C.T Police Area Command has since declared Mr. Vincent Ovie Adjarho wanted for the murder of the three-year-old baby.

In the press release signed by the F.C.T Commissioner of Police, CP Sadiq Bello and dated 23rd September, 2012 the police stated that "this is to inform the general public that one Mr. Vincent Ovie Adjarho, a native of Urhobo, Delta State is wanted by the Nigerian Police Force for a case of the murder of a three (3) year old kid which took place on the 15th of September, 2012 in Bwari, Abuja."

It was added that Mr. Vincent is said to be among the gang "as confessed by a suspect Mr. Usman Inuwa who was found with the body parts of the kid in a briefcase at Tipper garage along Kubwa express.

"The Nigerian Police urges anyone who knows the whereabouts of Mr. Vincent to please report to the nearest police station."

What Caused 2006 ADC Airline Crash That Killed Sultan Of Sokoto

Contrary to some media reports that the recent crashes recorded by Air Peace, one of Nigeria’s leading airlines were caused by faulty and substandard tryes, experts have revealed that the crashes were caused by human errors and judgments.
Experts who spoke on the matter disclosed that tyres of airplanes are replaced as at when due and that saying that some crashes by Air Peace and some other crashes that have occurred in Nigeria in the past were due to faulty tyres supplied by Airline Management Support Limited were deliberately conjured up to tarnish the image of the company in the industry as there were no facts to substantiate the spurious allegations.

TravelBuhari’s Massive Infrastructural Development Has Boosted Tourism In Nigeria by Walecoy(op):
The Senate has passed the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) (Repeal renactment) Bill 2017 into law. The law, which was initiated to reposition NTDC, is awaiting President Muhammadu Buhari‘s assent. NTDC Director-General Folorunso Coker speaks with Assistant Editor (Arts) OZOLUA UHAKHEME on his expectations of the law and its relevance to global tourism objectives.

Nigeria Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) Director-General, Mr. Folorunso Coker, has described the new NTDC bill awaiting President Buhari’s assent as the needed legal framework to grow the nation’s tourism potential. He said the new bill when passed into law will prompt a financial framework that allows the agency to operate as a business entity capable of generating huge revenues for the economy.

He likened the NTDC’s legal framework to the required foundation (the financial framework inclusive) laid in the communication, banking, oil and gas sectors, which resulted in their huge revenue returns.

He lamented that most tourism operators are now unable to access loans from the banks because tourism does not generate individual returns, which may allow it to withstand 25 per cent interest rate. This, according to him, is because tourism is not seen as a serious business.
