Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment to infrastructural development and upgrading of schools across the state.

The State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, gave the assurance at the centenary celebration of the Ondo Boys’ High School, in Ondo city at the weekend.

Akeredolu, who was represented by his deputy, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, said the road network project approved for the school was ongoing, assuring that his government would continue to support other stakeholders in their efforts to contribute towards the school development.

According to him, his government would ensure that modern computers and other necessary facilities were provided to boost ICT studies in schools across the state.

He noted that the school had produced many accomplished individuals in various fields of human endeavour and therefore called on the old students association not to abandon the school, but ensure that they complement the efforts of government, so that the school would attain the desired height.

While appreciating the organizers of the event, the governor however called on other old students associations of various other schools to emulate the good gesture by giving back to the schools that made them.

Speaking at the event, an old student who donated a N10m worth science laboratory for the school, Prof. Olu Akinkugbe stressed the need for collaboration among well meaning individuals towards the school’s development.

He attributed his success in life to the virtues imparted in him in his days in the school and wished the school many more successful products.

The re-election campaigns of the President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice President is getting more serious in Ondo state as the state chapter of the party under the leadership of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has rolled out more vehicles for the campaigns ahead of the next month elections.

President Buhari is billed to visit Ondo state on February 5th, 2019 for the Presidential campaign train which is moving across the country.

Governor Akeredolu has shown total commitment to the re-election of President Buhari as he continues to deliver the dividend of democracy to his people.

Already, Governor Akeredolu has donated 18 vehicles which have been spread across the 18 local governments of the state for the campaigns of the APC Presidential candidate.

Another set of vehicles have been roll out on Monday to further strengthen the APC campaigns in the state.

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has recorded a major haul of 851.027 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances.

They are chemical drugs that change brain function and result in alteration in perception, mood, consciousness, cognition or behaviour.

Ondo state commander of the agency, Haruna Gagara, who gave the figure while speaking with newsmen in Akure, the state capital, said the dangerous drugs were uncovered during phase 1 of its “Operation Ijo Oloogbo” in the state.

He said during an operation at Ipele forest in Owo Local Government area of the state, it also confiscated 30,618 tonnes of cannabis sativa, five hectares of Indian Hemp farm and also recovered three single barrel guns and one pump action gun during the raid

He said that the psychotropic substances included Tramadol and 93,480 tablets and syrup containing codeine. Others are 8,630 tablets of Rophynol, 80,000 tablets of Benzhexol-5 and 4,800 bottles of Panpedeen cough syrup with codeine.

The NDLEA boss stated that, in preparation for the 2019 general elections, the command is determined to rid Ondo State of hard drugs and send the drug dealers out of the illicit business.

He said it is a crucial task that must be done in order to create a safe and violence free environment for the 2019 general elections.

At the Ipele forest which is the location of Operation Ijo Oloogbo, the exercise led to the arrest of 12 male suspects and seizure of 54 bags of Cannabis Sativa, weighing 627,5 kilogrammes (29.04 tonnes) and 12 bags of Cannabis sativa seeds, due to inadequate logistics for the evacuation

He stated that as part of the effort aimed at creating a drug free society, a total of five suspects were referred for counseling from the Supply Reduction Unit, (SRU). Three drug dependent persons were also admitted for counseling and rehabilitation. “Presently we have eight clients in our counseling and rehabilitation facility.”

The Commander who acknowledged the support and encouragement of the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), in the war against drug abuse, illicit trafficking and cultivation of Cannabis sativa, added that on the just concluded security summit organized by the state government, stakeholders agreed and made a remarkable step towards safe and violence -free elections in Ondo State.

The Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, on Saturday said the ongoing renovations and construction of over 400 new schools in the state is just a tip of an iceberg.


He said more schools in the state would soon witness such capital projects to bridge the infrastructure gap that had been making learning not conducive in our various schools.

Akeredolu disclosed this at the Centenary Celebration of the Ondo Boys’ High School, Ondo West Local government area of the state.

The Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Hon. Agboola Ajayi, reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to the infrastructure development of schools in the state.

Vi c e – P resident Yemi Osinbajo yesterday held a close-door meeting with the first Executive Governor of Lagos State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, to seek his blessing for 2019 general elections. Osinbajo, the vice presidential of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who was in Lagos for the continuation of his door-todoor campaign to Mushin and Surulere local governments, visited Jakande, a former Minister of Works and Housing, in his Ilupeju residence in Lagos. Lagos APC governorship candidate, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu and close members of Jakande’s family attended the closedoor meeting between Osinbajo and Jakande, which lasted for about 30 minutes. Speaking to New Telegraph newspaper on the close-door meeting, Jakande’s son, Seyi said the Vice President Osinbajo visited the former governor to seek his blessing and to inform him about the performance of APC administration.

“Vice President Osinbajo said he decided to pay visit to the elder statesman as part of his door-to-door campaign to Mushin Local Government Area. Vice President Osinbajo said he decided to visit him to seek for his blessing and to inform him about the performance of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration,” he said.

The vice president after visit to Jakande also visited some houses and markets in Mushin and Surulere local governments. Despite heavy presence of security operatives, party faithful and supporters besieged Jakande’s resident in there thousands to welcome the vice president and expressed their support him and his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari. Accompanying the Vice President during the door-to-door campaign were chieftains of the party, including Sanwo- Olu, the Majority Leader of House Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila; Senator Ganiyu Solomon and Senior Adviser to the President on Political Matters, Senator Babafemi Ojudu, among others.

Addressing a crowd at Shitta in Surulere, Osinbajo, who urged Nigerians to vote for APC candidates in the February 16 and March 2 elections, said the ruling party would take Nigeria to a greater height. “APC is taking Nigeria higher and higher. We are not stopping. Our country is going higher. Come February 16, vote for APC,” he said. Also speaking, Gbajabiamila urged all the party members to unite and work for the party’s success in the forthcoming elections. Sanwo-Olu said: “On February 16 and March 2, let us make sure we vote for APC because APC is going to take us to next level. We are going higher and higher. We should vote for Buhari, Gbajabiamila and Desmond Elliot.”

Civil servants in Ondo State will have access to N500 million housing loans in the year 2019, the Head of Service (HOS), Barr. Toyin Akinkuotu has disclosed.

Akinkuotu assured civil servants in the state of better welfare in the fiscal year, promising that the housing loans would be jerked up as soon as the state’s revenue increases.

Akinkuotu who spoke during the 2019 budget defence at the Ondo State House of Assembly, specifically assured workers of better salary, regular promotion and other good things of life.

The HOS also hinted that the housing loans for civil servants in the state have been increased to about N500m this year, saying there is possibility of increasing it as the revenue of the state increases.

This is coming as the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Femi Agagu; his counterpart in the Ministry of Natural Resources, Rasheed Badmus; Special Adviser to the governor on Transport, Tobi Ogunleye, his counterpart on Public Utilities, Engr. Tunji-light Ariyomo and the Civil Service Commission Chairman, Dr. Afolabi Adewakun, promised many goodies for the people of the state in the financial year.

Agagu, while reeling out the good plans of government to further improve the standard of education in the fiscal year, noted that apart from the new 300 schools advertised for construction by SUBEB this year, many more projects would be executed by the ministry and other boards and parastatals under the Ministry.

On his part, Badmus who spoke through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Alhaji Lateef Fabunmi disclosed that as a major revenue generating ministry, efforts would be made to meet and surpass its target in the fiscal year to improve the economy of the state.

Also, Ogunleye, disclosed that good foundation had already been laid in the transport sector, and that the passengers’ security welfare scheme for the land transporters would be extended to passengers on water this year.

Ogunleye who pointed out that by the time the project takes off, no fewer than 200 people would be employed, also added that to further ensure security of lives and property of passengers in the state, top-light on all the taxis would be made a priority for the benefit of all.

Also speaking, Engr. Tunji-light Ariyomo, noted that government has succeeded in securing the first tranche of its urban water financing to the tune of five million US dollars to be able to cater for the needs of the people of the state.

The Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Dr. Afolabi Adewakun, promised to ensure that civil servants enjoy more this year in terms of production among other important areas.

They all commended the House Committee for being thorough and painstaking in scrutinising the budget proposal.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday assured that his administration will continue to persuade other countries to repatriate stolen funds and assets from Nigerian.

He made the promise while speaking during the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential campaign at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu State.

He said, “Whoever is caught, we will persuade the governments to bring back the money and we will invest it in infrastructures.”

Stressing that handling corruption in Nigeria under democracy is very difficult, he said that he is doing his best under the rule of law.

Noting that he doesn’t have new promises to make, he said that his administration has honestly made progress with the promises made in 2015.


The President recalled how the People’s Democratic Party wasted the resources that accrued to the nation for sixteen years.

According to him, more money would have to be devoted to education as one of the best ways to solve the problems of Nigeria.

He said that his administration has made progress in agriculture as many Nigerians are now eating Nigerian rice, with Nigerian farmers prospering from it.

The President also pointed out that if roads, railway lines and power are developed, Nigerians will focus on their businesses and won’t even mind who is ruling at the centre.

Men of the Ondo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, have apprehended two suspects allegedly involved in crude oil theft.


The suspected illegal oil bunkers: Francis Ogbe and Kelvin Analogbe, were nabbed with a truck loaded with 33,000 litres of suspected crude oil.

Also found with the suspects, who were arrested in Ore, was a towing vehicle suspected to be used for their illegal activities in the state.


State Commandant of the NSCDC, Pedro Awili, who made the disclosure while parading the suspects on Thursday at the Alagbaka head office of the corps in the state, disclosed that the truck, toying van as well as the two suspects were arrested on January 19 along Benin/Lagos expressway, Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.


He further maintained that after necessary investigation, it was revealed that the tanker, which was on transit through the state, was coming from Port Harcourt and was heading to Lagos before it was intercepted by his men.

Awili also assured that the driver of the truck, who fled upon sighting security agents, would be nabbed as efforts are on to track him.

The two suspects are still under investigation and will be charge to court immediately after the conclusion of the investigation.

The truck has the registration number: Lagos LSB 08 XM, conveyed 33,000 litres of suspected crude oil.

“The suspects are already assisting at apprehending the driver of the truck who is currently on the run,” Awili said.

He, therefore, assured that the corps would put more effort in bringing an end to illegal oil bunkering in the state.
