CONTINUITY WILL FAST TRACK DEVELOPMENT IN ONDO – APC

Ahead of the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State, the state Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Ade Adetimehin, has called on all the people and members of the party to allow continuity in governance of the state to give way for rapid development of the Sunshine state like Lagos state.

He explained that Lagos was witnessing massive growth because the lagosians allow the progressives government to be in control of the state since 1999, a system, Adetimehin wants ondo state to adopt by sustaining their support for the APC-led administration in the state.

Adetimehin gave the advice on Thursday during a media chat with online journalists in Akure, the state capital.

The Ruling Party’s Chairman who pointed out that what the present government had done in the last two years was more than the previous government in term of road network, industrialisation and many other things said people must allow continuity to reign for better developmental across the state.

Adetimehin noted that “I believe that If all the industries started work fully people will value us more than the way they look at us. if it is well sustain I believed ondo state will not only rely on allocation that comes from Federal Government monthly.

“Governance is continuum but the people play the game didn’t believed in it all they believed is that all I can do to benefit my own selfish interest but the cooperate interest is bigger than individual interest,” he said.

“As a chairman and I am not speaking on behalf of anybody or talking about individual candidate but am talking as cooperate, if APC can continue the state will move faster in term of development”.

“Adefarati as a program to industrialise Ore in Odigbo Local Government area, he want to place Ore as a market hub for the entire south west but along the line the government was change that is the end of the project.

“Agagu came on board with another beautiful idea, Olokola free trade zone shortly when left that ends that regime and Mimiko came on board instead to continue with that again he started with his own mega schools and mega market.

“And this present government has embark on road networks and more than seven industries has been established in the state especially in Ore by the present government.

Adetimehin who said that APC in the state were one family urged party leaders to come together and solve all the problems internally.

He therefore, appealed to journalists in the state not to allow themselves to be used by any politician in other to cause problem in the state.

“I knew the role journalist played in the society and I value you, it will pay us to work together for the development of our dear state because you in the position to proclaim our potential to the world,” he opined.

On the face-off between the state government and Students Unions, Adetimehin pledged the commitment of the party to amicable resolution of the misunderstanding surrounding the new tuition at the state tertiary institutions.

Adetimehin explained that “The party will look into it. This is the home of free education but i can assure you, we will look into those issues between the students and the government. The party will wade in.

The APC Chairman said “If the government has been like that of Lagos state, we won’t find ourselves in this kind of mess. The overhead cost in the state owned tertiary institutions is much, but Government will not relent to be responsive to the yearnings of the students”.

InvestmentResidents Excited As Industries Sprout In Ondo by walex011(op): 10:13am On May 09, 2019
Residents excited as industries sprout in Ondo

In the days of the late Adekunle Ajasin as the first Executive Governor of Ondo State between 1979 and I983, he established many industries that unfortunately were no more functional.

Successive administrations did not deem it necessary to sustain the projects as all the companies became moribund.

However, topmost campaign promises of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who is also an Owo indigene as Ajasin, was to transform the state through industrialisation.

The governor also promised to revitalise abandoned industries and even establish new ones.

After he assumed office in 2016, the governor made good his campaign promise by negotiating with some foreign investors on the need to invest in the state.

He also visited some foreign countries, including China, United Arab Emirates and United States of America where he lobbied some investors to come and invest in the state, which he said is blessed with abundant mineral resources, especially bitumen and crude oil.

These mineral resources are capable of attracting both foreign and local investors; hence the continuous drive of Governor Akeredolu for industrial and economic development.

However, the vision for investment drive of Akeredolu is gradually materialising within the two years of his taking over the mantle of leadership.

No fewer than five new companies are ready to begin operations in Ore Industrial hub, Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area.

Available records show that Oluwa Glass Company and the Okitipupa Oil Palm were the pride of the state at that time. But four decades on, the sites of the companies are overgrown with weeds.

Sadly, the once-beautiful and buoyant state became a shadow of itself. It now depends on the paltry monthly allocations from the Federation Account, almost three quarter of which goes into the payment of salaries of workers.

However, the state is gradually coming back to life in terms of commerce and industry and gradually occupying a place of pride in the country in general and the Southwest region in particular.

Already, five companies, including a paper mill, ethanol plant, medium density fibre board, high density fibre board, ply wood and textile companies have sprouted from the mustard seed that was planted when the state signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Linyi Municipal

Government of Shandong Province of Peoples Republic of China.

Determined to ensure a solid economic base for the state, Governor Akeredolu had embarked on an investment tour to China in June, 2017.

That tour has given birth to what is now known as the Ore Industrial Park.

Governor Akeredolu had earlier inaugurated the 10,000 hectares forestation project, where Gmelina Arborea has been planted on 1,500 of the 10,000 hectares.

The industrial revolution in the state has taken a very strong foothold with the ethanol plant at about 95 per cent completed and set to roll.

According to the Business Development Manager of Weewood Limited, Mr. Sun Peng, special specie of cassava is being planted in-between the Gmelina which will be used to feed the ethanol plant.

While conducting reporters round the factory recently, Mr Peng said the ethanol factory is almost ready, with works at 95 per cent completion, saying that “we were expected to begin test-run of the machines before the end of April.”

Already, about 1,000 people have been employed to work in the ethanol factory for direct jobs. The plant is also expected to provide jobs for more than 10,000 people, particularly cassava farmers and traders.

Local farmers are excited about a ready and lucrative market for their goods as cassava, which is the major item for the production of ethanol will be sourced directly from them.

Shehu Oladapo, a cassava farmer in Odigbo Local Government Area said: “I thank Governor Akeredolu for this initiative. Farmers like me now have a ready market for our cassava. It has encouraged us to increase the number of hectares that we will prepare to grow cassava for the next harvest season.”

The WinWin Textile Factory located inside the park is another factory which has commenced production of textile thread a few months ago.

With 300 workers already employed, WinWin Textile has helped to ease the problem of unemployment on the people, especially the residents who, for the first time, found a worthwhile venture outside the civil service.

According to Ahmed Adeyinka, the Manager of WinWin Textile, the textile factory is, at present, producing polyester sewing thread.

He said the factory will move to the next stage of producing textile materials such as lace and Ankara, among others.

“Currently, we have 300 people working for us. We now produce all kinds of sewing polyester threads for the local market. In a couple of months from now, the factory will begin to run at full capacity with the production of textile materials of all kinds,” Adeyinka said.

Peng said: “The Wewwood Plywood/HDF Factory has also commenced production. Young men and women, who would have been roaming the streets, are busy with one task or the other. The company’s products, high quality fibre board plywood are already in high demand in local markets across the country, while the state is being positioned to earn foreign currency through the export of the product.”

He added that the paper mill factor will, on completion, employ more than 3, 000 direct workers, while many more are expected to benefit from jobs created down the value chain.

He said the paper mill, like other factories in the Ore Park, is structured to create more indirect jobs for the residents, adding that “long before the machines for the mill began to arrive at

the shores of the country, Weewood commenced preparations by planting the trees that will form the primary raw materials for the mill.

“At present, the almost 10,000 hectares of land allocated for the Weewood afforestation project by Governor Akeredolu is beginning to yield the expected result, as the trees continue to grow into maturity.

“The governor deserves commendation for this initiative. This is a win-win situation for Ondo State and its people. The company will employ our people on the farm to plant the trees, it will go on to employ our people in the factory and other auxiliary jobs that would be created.”

The Commissioner for Information, Mr Yemi Olowolabi who led reporters to the industrial park said: ‘The Ore Industrial Park is fashioned after that of Linyi Municipal Government of Shandong Province in China. Investors under Shandong group have made good their promise to make Ondo State a model for one-stop industrial park in the country.

“The administration of Governor Akeredolu has set a standard by which governance would be measured in the country with the elaborate investment and the revenue that will accrue to the coffers of the government.

This is in addition to the jobs that will be generated through the project,” Olowolabi said.

AKEREDOLU, TINUBU MEET, RESOLVE TO WORK TOGETHER

The crisis rocking the Ondo state chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC may come to an end soon as Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu may have finally reconcilled with the national leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Akeredolu and Tinubu fell out in 2016 over the latter’s endorsement of Olusegun Abraham in the September 3, 2016 APC governorship primary in Ondo state. Akeredolu eventually won the primary and was subsequently elected governor of Ondo state without Tinubu’s backing.

Though Tinubu later made a surprise appearance at Akeredolu’s inuaguration, the two men have not really been friends. The move to reconcile Tinubu and the Ondo helmsman was initiated by a former APC national vice chairman southwest, Chief Pius Akinyelure who had made several attempts to bring the duo together but had suffered setbacks until late last week when Akeredolu flew to Abuja to honor Akinyelure’s invitation to meet with the former Lagos governor.

Presenttimesng gathered that the two men met, expressed their grievances and resolved to work together in the overall interest of the party. At the end of the meeting, Tinubu assured Akeredolu that “the war was over” and tasked him on the need to reconcile all different tendencies in the Ondo APC.

On his part, Akeredolu thanked Asiwaju Tinubu and promised to work for the unity of the party.

PoliticsMinimum Wage Payment: Workers ‘ll Oppose Unfriendly Economic Policies – Labour L by walex011(op): 9:51am On May 03, 2019
The Nigerian Civil Service Union, (NCSU) has insisted that organised labour will vehemently reject any attempt by the Federal Government to introduce economic policies including tax increment that will deny workers of the benefits attached to the new #30,000 minimum wage.

Comrade Lawrence Ameachi, National President of the Nigeria’s oldest Union gave the indication during the inauguration of the newly constructed Relaxation Centre named “NCSU Bar” located at the Union’s State Secretariat, on Oda Road, Akure.

The NCSU President who Represented by the Deputy President, Comrade Sunday Adeleye, insisted that hike in fuel price, higher taxation and other policies that could affect negatively the purchasing power of workers as a result of the new wage, would not be accepted by the organized labour in the country.

Ameachi said, “we are not going to accept any policies that would further impoverish workers in this country. The new minimum wage can’t take us anywhere and therefore anything that will affect the new wage would not be accepted”.

He noted that, “We will not take increase in price of fuel, we will not accept increase in VAT (Value Added Tax), NLC, TUC and others have vowed to resist pump price because this present government had told us then that it had removed subsidy and that was its justification for the increase of fuel price to #145 per litre”.

On the inaugurated project, the NCSU President commended the Ondo state Executives-led by Ademola Olapade for justifying and expending members’ funds prudently.

Also speaking, the the Ondo State Chairman, Comrade Ademola Olapade also warned against introduction of obnoxious economic policies that would affect workers.

Olapade said, “I have contrary opinion to introduction or increase in Value Added Tax (VAT), it will impose undue financial burden on workers and Nigerians in general”.

Minimum Wage: Ondo workers vow to resist hike in taxes, fuel price

The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has promised to pay the N30,000 minimum wage as provided by law.

He gave the assurance while addressing workers on Tuesday in commemoration of the Workers’ Day held in Arcade, Akure.

But the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state has vowed to resist any form of increases in taxes or the prices of petroleum products as a result of the new minimum wage.

“This government will pay the Minimum Wage as approved by law. We, however, admonish our colleagues in service to reciprocate all the good gestures of the government, and the sacrifices made by those who are not employed by the State, to rededicate themselves and embrace the best practices for progress,” Mr Akeredolu said.

“We promised during our campaigns that we would not allow any worker suffer under our watch. We have kept this promise. We will remain focused in the interest of our people. We shall not allow any extraneous interests to undermine the development of the state. We will resist any person or groups of persons who may wish to short-change the people of the state under any guise.”

On salaries, the governor said his administration had made good its promises not to owe workers.

“This Administration has not reneged on any of its promises since inception. We will continue to treat the welfare of civil servants as a priority,” he said.

“We have paid salaries of workers till date. We acknowledge the outstanding one month salary from the seven months’ arrears inherited from the previous government. We are obliged to offset this entitlement and other legitimate earnings as soon as the financial situation improves. We crave your patience and understanding in this regard.”

The governor also said the government had opened the state for economic development through production of goods and services and the improvement in internally generated revenues.

The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Ondo State Council, Sunday Adeleye, commended the state government for its commitment to regular payment of salaries and conduct of promotion exercise.

"Unless and until the hinterlands, upon which our aspiration towards self-sufficiency in food production is anchored, are linked to the urban centres, in a design which promotes cooperation on socio-economic fronts, poverty will not be tackled effectively.

"The provision of social amenities such as water, as exemplified by the drive of the Government to reach all the nooks and crannies of the State, as well as the recent supply of medical equipment to all the facilities in the 18 Local Governments, attune with our determination to make life more meaningful for our people."

"This Administration has not reneged on any of its promises since inception. We will continue to treat the welfare of civil servants as a priority. "We have paid salaries of workers till date.We acknowledge the outstanding 1 month salary from the 7 months arrears inherited from the previous Government. APC Speaks On Suspending Gov Akeredolu

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied reports that it has suspended Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State over alleged anti-party activities.

Reports had emerged that the governor has been suspended by the party after failing to respond to the query issued to him by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

However, speaking with Sunday Independent, Lanre Issa- Onilu, the party’s National Publicity Secretary said he was not aware that Akeredolu has been suspended as claimed.

According to him, the last action he was aware of was the query issued to the governor by the NEC.

“I have received a lot of calls but I have said I am not aware the governor has been suspended. The last action I am aware of was that the governor was issued a query,” he said

Also, Akeredolu on Saturday said he has not been suspended by the NWC of the APC.

He also insisted that he was neither issued any query as claimed by the party leadership as he has not received any letter to that effect.

In March, the governor was reportedly issued a query by the party leadership for “glaring anti-party activities, which greatly affected the fortunes of our candidates in the recently-conducted Presidential and National Assembly elections in the state.”

However, the governor on Saturday said, “I have not received any letter be it query or suspension. Thanks.”

Akeredolu's Suspension, a mere rumour, says group

A group, The Campaign Concourse (TCC) has described as mere rumour, the news making the round that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has been suspended by the National Working Commitee of the party.

The group said the news was a rumour sponsored by enemies of good governance who are not pleased with the developmental revolution the Governor is presently leading in the state which has given birth to massive infrastructure, industrialization and grass lroot development.

The group in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Amudipe Marcus and issued to Journalists in Akure, the state capital pointed out that the NWC of the party has not issued any official statement from Abuja or anywhere around the world announcing the suspension of the Governor.

The group wondered where the authencity of the story came from. According to TCC, the APC has not at any point communicated the Governor or the party at the state level on such decision which is traditionally the party's business.

The group said " It's crystal clear that the purported suspension of the Governor was only sponsored by some detractors who are not happy with the development taking place across the state today. We are aware that when some Governors were suspended, the National Publicity Secretary of the party was the one who announced such suspension. Our question is, who announced Akeredolu's Suspension?

"It's also funny that while some enemies of progress planted that story in the Newspaper, the National Publicity Secretary of the party Lanre Issa - Onilu has said he was not aware of any suspension of Akeredolu. As we speak, the Governor has neither received any suspension nor query letter from the party

"Going forward, we like to advise the APC to be more concern about gaining more grounds. The party has suffered so much injury. We are aware how Aregbesola sponsored the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 2016 and also rewarded Bola Ilori by appointing him as a commissioner in his cabinet. Till date, no one has punished Aregbesola or Bola Ilori for engaging in an open anti - Party activities especially when Ilori was the Director General of the AD candidate's campaign organisation

"The people of Ondo State stand with Akeredolu. The Governor has performed so well that he has represented that party well in the state. Those who are planting this story in the media to force such decision on the party leadership may have scored an offside goal. Their sinister move is seen but missed the target. "
