PoliticsAkeredolu's Suspension, A Mere Rumour, Says Group by walex011(op): 8:12pm On Apr 20, 2019
Akeredolu's Suspension, a mere rumour, says group

A group, The Campaign Concourse (TCC) has described as mere rumour, the news making the round that the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, has been suspended by the National Working Commitee of the party.

The group said the news was a rumour sponsored by enemies of good governance who are not pleased with the developmental revolution the Governor is presently leading in the state which has given birth to massive infrastructure, industrialization and grass lroot development.

The group in a statement signed by its Coordinator, Amudipe Marcus and issued to Journalists in Akure, the state capital pointed out that the NWC of the party has not issued any official statement from Abuja or anywhere around the world announcing the suspension of the Governor.

The group wondered where the authencity of the story came from. According to TCC, the APC has not at any point communicated the Governor or the party at the state level on such decision which is traditionally the party's business.

The group said " It's crystal clear that the purported suspension of the Governor was only sponsored by some detractors who are not happy with the development taking place across the state today. We are aware that when some Governors were suspended, the National Publicity Secretary of the party was the one who announced such suspension. Our question is, who announced Akeredolu's Suspension?

"It's also funny that while some enemies of progress planted that story in the Newspaper, the National Publicity Secretary of the party Lanre Issa - Onilu has said he was not aware of any suspension of Akeredolu. As we speak, the Governor has neither received any suspension nor query letter from the party

"Going forward, we like to advise the APC to be more concern about gaining more grounds. The party has suffered so much injury. We are aware how Aregbesola sponsored the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in 2016 and also rewarded Bola Ilori by appointing him as a commissioner in his cabinet. Till date, no one has punished Aregbesola or Bola Ilori for engaging in an open anti - Party activities especially when Ilori was the Director General of the AD candidate's campaign organisation

"The people of Ondo State stand with Akeredolu. The Governor has performed so well that he has represented that party well in the state. Those who are planting this story in the media to force such decision on the party leadership may have scored an offside goal. Their sinister move is seen but missed the target. "

PoliticsMrs Akeredolu Charges Young Women To Be Ict Compliant For Self Reliance: by walex011(op): 1:49pm On Apr 19, 2019
MRS AKEREDOLU CHARGES YOUNG WOMEN TO BE ICT COMPLIANT FOR SELF RELIANCE:

The wife of the Ondo state governor, Arabinrin Betty-Anyanwu Akeredolu has called on young women to be computer literate and explore digital media to acquire fund.

She specifically advised the educated women whose husband have denied the opportunity to work with their certificate to tap into the opportunity provided by digitalisation through Information Communication Technology and make money right in their homes.

Mrs. Akeredolu who gave this advice while playing host to the members of the Association of Online Media Practitioners, Ondo state chapter in her office, also tasked online journalists and bloggers to sanitise the digital media space by curbing the spread of fake news.

” Online journalism has come to stay in Nigeria as it has opened up the space for people to express themselves without hindrance, and there are quite a number of things that are good about it.

“There is also the downside of it which are fake news and bullying, but I believe that with decent people cautioning those bullies on social media, probably they might have a rethink. People use social media to spread rumours against those they perceived as political opponents, but I want to believe that those of you that see it as your profession might also help in sanitizing the online space for Nigeria’, she said.

According to her, any society that subjugate 50% of her population cannot progress, and lamented the level of gender disparity witnessed in every sector in Nigeria, especially in politics.

She noted that the fear of losing their marriages is one of the reasons some women are silent about gender equality, and therefore enjoined those in such category to develop their potential through ICT tools.

“So, these women that are home and your husband is not letting you, ICT is the way out. Become computer literate, start coding and be in your house and make money. You will even make money more than him. Because if you say you want to do gender equality you wouldn’t want to lose your marriage but this is a veritable way out”, she said.

Mrs. Akeredolu, a gender-based activist lamented the rate at which marriages are crashing in this generation, attributing it to the failure to move along with the global change, noting that Nigerians are still lurked in the olden way of seeing marriage.

NEXT LEVEL: EXPECT MORE SUCCESSES IN ECONOMY, SECURITY, FIGHT AGAINST CORRUPTION, PRESIDENT BUHARI TELLS NIGERIANS IN DIASPORA

President Muhammadu Buhari Tuesday in Dubai declared that the next four years of his administration will be a harvest and consolidation of successes in the three-point agenda of fixing the economy, fighting insecurity and corruption

Speaking at a town hall meeting with members of the Nigerian Community in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), President Buhari pledged more government investments in research and development, as well as technology and educational institutions.

The President also promised that the prudent economic management, diversification of production and revenue bases of the administration in the last four years will be sustained for better prospects for all Nigerians.

‘‘The Next Level is to consolidate whatever we have done till 2023 and it makes common sense that in order to manage any outfit, whether a nation, state or organisation , you have to secure it.

‘‘We all know how many local governments Boko Haram were occupying. People from the North-east know that they are not holding any local government today. They were holding 17 out of the 774 local governments before we came in 2015; they are not holding any now,’’ the President said.

At the interactive session, the Nigerian leader noted that a key objective of his administration which had yielded positive results, in the last four years, was the campaign for the nation to return to agriculture.

He said the nation cannot afford to lag behind again in agriculture.

‘‘What we did was to encourage agriculture, and fertiliser was made available at half the price.

‘‘We encouraged people to go back to land. The response was excellent. We have virtually achieved food security; we have stopped the importation of rice.

‘‘The money we have saved in foreign exchange is in hundreds of millions of dollars, not even in naira. We are putting that into infrastructure,’’ the President said.

Responding to a question about the pace of anti-corruption war, the President said: ‘‘Whoever calls me Baba-go-slow, I’m very conscious of historical antecedents. You know what happened to me the last time… people [now] have to be proven guilty before they are locked up.’’

The President also reflected on the 2019 APC presidential campaign and the outcome of the polls, saying:

‘‘I was very impressed by the turn out of every state to see and hear me. The crowd is more than what you can buy or force to come. Nigerians voluntarily came out.’’

Our achievements will speak for us in 2020-Ondo APC

Kalejaye noted that what the party is targeting is to first achieve the first term development agenda which was rolled out at the inception of the administration.

“To us in the All Progressives Congress, the best way to prepare for election is to fulfill campaign promises we made to the people, and here in Ondo state, the APC government led by Arakurin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, is so concerned and passionate about the well-being of our people.

” This informed why this administration concentrates so much on building infrastructure, renovating and reconstructing schools, workers’ welfare, food security, with this, people will live better life” , he said.

According to him, the administration is just two years old and therefore too soon to engage in second term campaign but rather ensure that the presence of government is felt across the state, a feat that would speak for the party in 2021.

The APC spokesperson however said that the party didn’t fail in the state during the presidential election having scored 40%, while reacting to the comment by the state former deputy governor, Alhaji Ali Olanusi that President Buhari failed in the state due to anti-party activities.

He noted that necessary efforts were being made to sustain the success recorded by the party during the House of Assembly election, noting that reconciliation has been made and there is no more aggrieved aspirants in the state.

Kalejaye who said friction and crisis can never be ruled out of political activities, affirmed that the party has put everything that transpired during the primaries behind and members are now in one accord.

Potable water supply: Akeredolu records another significant stride

Water is Life. Access to safe water contributes to improved health and prevents infectious disease. Lack of potable water supply has been a huge problem in Ondo State even as the immediate past administration abandoned the Owena dam project initiated by the late Olusegun Agagu’s administration.

When Governor Akeredolu assumed office in February 24th , 2017, the percentage of public water supply in the state was less than four percent. Spur by his determination to provide potable water supply in the state, Governor Akeredolu initiated the “Kamomi Aketi ” water Scheme. Today, the Ondo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RUWASSA) led by the Executive Chairman appointed by the Governor, Mrs Yetunde Adeyanju has touched almost every communities across the state.

Most significant is the Accelerated water scheme which was commissioned in Ayede Ogbese by the Minister of Water Resources, Engr Suleiman Adamu . The Ayede Ogbese water scheme has 5km reticulation and distribution network with a storage tank of 50m capacity that would discharge at full capacity twice a day with 100 public standpipes, 200 fetching points while one fetching point will serve 50 people.

Impressed by the success recorded in “Kamomi Aketi Accelerated Water Scheme” , the Federal Government has adopted the model for all states across the federation.

The era of fetching water from a stream that is likely to be affected by poor disposal of human waste is gone in Ondo state. Over 950 water facilities have been rehabilitated across the state while new ones are being sunk. It’s indeed, a new era. In Ondo State, the Sun is shining!

Nairaland GeneralThere Was No Constituency Allowance During Our Time by walex011(op): 1:31pm On Apr 02, 2019
There was no constituency allowance during our time
– 2nd Republic Senator

Senator M. A. E Onunkun (OON), a Senator in the Second Republic under the platform of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN) representing Ondo South, bears his mind on the National Assembly of today compared with that of the Second Republic, the legitimacy of the constituency allowance among other issues of interest.

The differences are colossus because during our period in the second republic, I never earned up to one million naira in my tenure even till now that I have retired. Because at that time, our salary was N15,200 per year out of which tax was deducted. After this deduction, our take home was N648 monthly. We fixed the salary of the President, it was N50,000 per year.

The salary of the entire National Assembly members were the same, our salary was just a little higher than that of members of the House of Representatives, we later agreed to earn the same salary because we are both members of the National Assembly. My salary at that time for a year could only buy one Peugeot car.

The duties of lawmakers are stated in the constitution, we know our duties, during our time, we worked day and night even on Saturday to consider Bill, raised bills, we dissolved into committees, that was what we were doing and we didn’t have much recesses like they have now, we only had two to three recess in a year unlike the one they are having every two weeks now.
During our time, when we go on recesses, we calculated three kobo per kilometer as our allowance, there was never a time I took up to N60 as allowance .

There was no constituency allowance during our time. The only thing we had was a little money to buy few things otherwise there was no constituency allowance, they only give us little money to furnish the senatorial office.

What they are receiving now is devastating, it is unthinkable. What are they doing with millions of naira every month and still receive constituency allowance. They should sit down and cut down their take home by themselves because the president cannot do it, they should do it themselves.

How can someone explain it, a country where minimum wage is N18,000 and someone is receiving up to N15 million as allowance in a month?
What will they do with such money rather than to live a flamboyant life? So, it is a terrible thing, they should be the one to think about all these things and cut down whatever they are receiving.

There is nothing wrong with our system, America practice it and they are doing fine, we have no problem with our system, it is ourselves that we must look inward and readjust. The present system is okay.

President Buhari is doing his best , he can’t do more than his best . Before now, the situation in the county was terrible, so he needed time to fix the country.

I will advise the government to sit up. I will advise the government not to waste money on frivolities, they should allow elections to be free fair and transparent. The money we are spending on elections is too much, how can you imagine that before an aspirant could get the ticket of a party, he is already spending billion, what then do you expect.

The issue of insecurity should be tackled headlong, look at the herdsmen, where do they get guns, all what we believe here is that, most of these guns are owned by the military men and they are giving it to them because most of the cattle belong to them. Security is a thing that government must face squarely.

Mrs Akeredolu Felicitates with Ondo State Women on Mothering Sunday, Calls for Gender Balanced Society

As families throughout Ondo State and Nigeria at large gather to honor mothers today, the Wife of Ondo State Governor, Arabinrin Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu, has restated the need for a gender balanced society.

She made this known during a service organised to mark the 2019 Mothering Sunday at the Cathedral Church of St Andrew, Owo.

Appreciating all women who have played important roles of mothers in our lives, including the commitment of foster and adoptive mothers who have taken on the responsibility of caring for children who are less privileged around their communities, the mother of the Sunshine State, Arabinrin Akeredolu, noted that gender balanced society is important for societal development.

She stressed that the call is on for the gender-balanced society as it is essential for economies and communities to thrive.

While commenting on the sermon by Very Rev R.O.A Agboola, the First Lady urged husbands to be more attentive to the needs of their wives.

“Marriage is a partnership. Our husbands should not relegate their wives to mere domestic slaves. Men should also help their spouses.

“Women subjugation is a mere societal construct. If society could make us believe that women are inferior to men, we, the inhabitants of present day Nigeria, can also correct this false notion.”

Earlier in his sermon, titled Christian Family, Very Rev. R.O.A Agboola called on the congregation to always commit their families into God’s hands as this, he concluded, would help to ensure peace and prosperity in their homes. He also lauded the First Lady for her numerous contributions to women development within Ondo State.

Highpoints of the event featured the conferring of the honour of Mother of the Priest on Arabinrin.

Nairaland GeneralOndo State Govt. Closes Down Illegal Hospital by walex011(op): 6:25am On Mar 30, 2019
Ondo State Govt. closes down illegal hospital

The Ondo State Government on Thursday closed down an alleged illegal hospital called Arib Hospital in Okitipupa, Okitipupa Local Area of the state.

Dr Dipo Durojaye, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Health, said the hospital was training about 52 auxiliary nurses, not allowed by law.

Durojaye added that other offences allegedly committed by the hospital were running medical services without following laid down regulations and non registration of the hospital with the state Ministry of Health.

He said it would not be business as usual in the state health sector as government would descend heavily on quacks and those opening hospitals indiscriminately.

The permanent secretary promised that any private health facility training health personnel would be sanctioned as the government would not allow the life of the people to be endangered.

He decried so much wrong doings in the health sector, saying that the government was poised to sanitise the sector.

Durojaye also warned patent medicine stores operating as hospitals and treating patients to desist from such act which could pose great threat to the well-being of the society or face the wrath of the law.

The Director, Hospital Services in the ministry, Dr Richard Adesoji, said quacks were dangerous to the health sector as they were not properly trained.

Adesoji said they could not make correct diagnosis and usually jumped to conclusions, a situation that had caused unnecessary mortality in the country.

Adesoji said in spite of the enormous negative effects quacks had on the society, people still ignorantly patronised them.

He disclosed that hospitals that could not employ qualified nurses, could use the Community Health Extension Workers ( CHEWS) as agreed at the National Council on Health.

The Director Nursing Services of the ministry, Mrs Alice Ogundele, said it was alarming that some hospitals in that locality had more than 50 nurses in training, when even some accredited Schools of Nursing and Midwifery were only allowed to admit 50 or less.

Ogundele said the trend was dangerous to the nursing profession, as it would not allow qualified nurses get jobs.

She said quacks had become a source of cheap labour just wasting their future.

She said the quacks, called auxiliary nurses, constituted danger to humanity as they were half baked, did not know the rationale behind their actions and perpetrated several wrong doings in the health sector.

They operate Patent Medicine Stores as hospitals.

The director warned the public not to patronise hospitals where there were trainees.

Some other hospitals visited in Okitipupa are St. Peters Hospital, Akingbola Hospital and Oresanya Hospital, where student trainees took to their heels on sighting the monitoring team.

They were served letters of warning to desist from acts that were capable of endangering the health of the people or face serious sanctions and eventual closure.

He said :” Let me congratulate Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu Foundation for putting this together. I want to believe that as the UNICEF has rightly scored , this initiative is a great one and greatly appreciated

“I listened to the NPC and everyone who has spoken about this inalienable right of our children, the right to identity. The need for planning. The two work together . If we do not have good birth registration we can’t plan properly.

“One thing that’s very clear is that the government can not do it alone. Hence, the initiative of BAAF must be recognized and applauded. We must find of way of to collaborate with the foundation

“As a government I believe that part of our collaboration will be to have a policy statement. The time has come for all our children to have birth registration certificate before registration in our primary Schools

“Under our health policy, children under 5 are treated free of charge, we must insist that our children must have birth registration certificate or they are issued one at the hospital. As a government, it is important for us to assist, because this birth registration will help us in planning. For us to plan, we need to have correct figures and our population. We will henceforth encourage BAAF. “

PoliticsI’ll Work Harder This Second Term, Says Buhari by walex011(op): 12:07pm On Mar 07, 2019
[9:33 AM, 3/7/2019] +234 806 087 7920: President Muhammadu Buhari said on Wednesday that he would work harder this second term than he did in the last four years to confront the country’s challenges.

He assured Nigerians that he would deliver more in tackling insecurity, corruption and improving on the economy to make the country a better place than he found it in 2015.

Buhari spoke in Abuja when he met with the leadership of the Arewa Consultative Forum at the Presidential Villa.

The group, which was led by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Alhaji Adamu Fika, had visited the President to congratulate him on his re-election.

“This is my last lap and I will try to work even harder than I have done.

“I assure you, I will not let you down, I will do my best and I will pray to God, my best will be good enough. I thank you very much indeed,” he stated.

Still savouring the joy of his first victory in 2015 when he defeated incumbent former President Goodluck Jonathan, the President singled out the introduction of the Permanent Voter Card as one of the factors that facilitated his victory.

Having won another election on February 23 for another term of four years, Buhari said he could only be grateful to Nigerians, promising to work harder this time round than before.

Showing appreciation over the visit, he added, “I am very appreciative of this visit, especially when I have seen some of my seniors, some of my colleagues and a couple of my juniors, among the team.

“This reminds me of the good old days when we were in the military. Actually, nobody drops from the sky. For the Arewa Consultative Forum to identify with me, having come from this geopolitical zone, I am very much appreciative of this.

“I am very pleased with the address of the chairman, who reminded me of the undertaking we made basically on the three important things my party campaigned on (insecurity, corruption and economy) and succeeded.”

The President, in the results declared by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, polled 15,191,847 votes to beat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, who scored 11,262,978 ballots.

PoliticsPresident Buhari Challenges Historians, Economists To Documen by walex011(op): 8:06pm On Feb 21, 2019
There is compelling need for historians and economists to document the 16 years squander-mania and mismanagement by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), so that future generations would not repeat the same mistakes, President Muhammadu Buhari has said.

The President spoke at State House, Abuja, Thursday, while receiving members of the Forum of Presidential Candidates & Political Parties for Good Governance, who decided to subordinate their ambitions, and have directed their supporters to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate.

"I am overwhelmed by your patriotism. The least you could do was to deny me votes in your immediate constituencies. However much your people loved me, they would have voted for their own first. I am really overwhelmed by your support," President Buhari said.

The President told his guests he was glad that Nigerians understood the three fundamentals on which the administration was anchored namely; securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption.

He listed many achievements in the three focal areas, and declared: "We lost unimaginable revenue in the 16 years of mismanagement of the country by the previous PDP administrations. Look at the state of roads, rail, power, and infrastructure generally, as at 2015, when we came into office. The roads were not done, neither were they even maintained.

The number of lives and property lost on Lagos/Ibadan Expressway on a daily basis, for instance, was very sad and tragic. And many other roads like that in the country. If the various administrations had fixed infrastructure, Nigerians would have simply minded their businesses. They wouldn't bother about who even governs them.

But the mismanagement was unparalleled. Our historians and economists should help document it, so that future generations would take note, and not repeat the mistakes."
