Engineers and computer scientists with a heavy math background develop algorithms. That's not necessarily true for being a programmer. It does not even have to be something complicated but it has to be efficient. Google search, in its simplest form, uses a simple ranking algorithm. Digital signal processing is another thing tha comes to mind.

I cannot program a simple html website because I have no interest in it but, in my past life, I wrote digital signal processing codes in Matlab and C to embed in VxWorks.

The list is incomplete but you're not necessarily correct also. A lot of math majors are hired to implement and/or develop algorithms. For example, the gps in the phone you're using relies on a lot of math to get you from point A to point B. Algorithm developers will typically develop an algorithm in a simple language like Matlab before someone else translates it into a compiled code (firmware).

Think of all the myriad of technologies involved in 3G/4G cell towers. How does the cell tower know when and how to hand off your phone call to the next closest cell tower as you drive around the city? Heavy math is involved (multidimensional matrices). That's all algorithms.

The article appears to be directed to web technologies and not other types of programming. Even then, I would have probably categorized programmers as falling into a frontend and/or backend developer.

If it is STEM related, I'll say you should give it a try. It is always best to get your studies out of the way after several years of experience.

I have conquered in my very short career time, I can explain how this devices do connect, even in depts that are not mine. I am actually fully involved.

There was a time every call drop, no internet, poor service for one of the top operators in northern Nigeria on 3G was my issue to solve, in the same little time, i transfered my skills outside Nigeria to consult independently..... Boom! my childhood dream was a hit back to back....lol. If you believe and work at it putting God first, you can do it too.

So what is done in 4G to make it faster than 3G?

I think your situation will determine if it is a good move!

1. Are you married? It will be very difficult finding a partner in the middle of nowhere.
2. Lifestyle - outdoors vs city life.
3. How stable is the job? If you lose that job, forget getting another remotely similar one in that area. You will probably have to move.
4. Rental market - how strong is the rental market? If strong, you can always turn it into a rental property. On the other hand, $100k is not a lot of money if you’re already making that much in income.
5. Kids - pros and cons of growing up in the middle of nowhere.
6. Tolerance – people far away from metropolitan areas tend to be less tolerant of anything that’s different from what they know.

Bottom line - there's a reason why houses cost so little over there and it revolves around jobs! If I were in your shoes and want to move, I'll be buying a property no less than 10 acres and also explore building from scratch. With that amount of land, you could get lucky if and when society encroaches on that area. :-) But 2 hours to get to a major city? Damn! What if some type of natural disaster occurs?

Where are those that claim HIV is no longer a bad thing? The best situation you can be in is to protect yourself from catching it in the first place! Use protection!

Anyway, I think this may be the impetus needed for a Nigerian pharmaceutical company to make a generic version of the drugs HIV patients need. I believe South Africa did the same thing a while ago. I actually believe the story. An agreement was probably reached but the nanny was definitely cheated because the employers were probably looking for awoof! The employers didn't want to pay the going rate for a nanny and figured they could get a Nigerian in Nigeria cheaply. That in itself is not a bad idea but when you start mistreating her and not even paying her a fraction of the ongoing rate, they deserve the football numbers coming their way! They are going to jail for a very long time! I only pity the innocent kids now left without a mother and father.

A licensed daycare for ONE child under two is about $250- $475 per WEEK! A live-in nanny charges about $15-$18 per hour. I can't even begin to think the cost of watching over five kids. The very least they could do is give her about $1000 a month for working 8 hours per day.

I interviewed a nanny and her mother once. The girl was about 26 and in school, and the mother, a 76 year old, recently lost her husband and stated working as a nanny to keep busy. The stories they told me about how a Nigerian couple treated the mother when she worked as a live-in nanny was crazy! I didn't hire them because it was cheaper for me to use a licensed daycare plus I don't have to worry about a stranger living in my house.

By the way, the employers probably didn't want her to use the hot water because she takes too long in the shower and/or the hot water is done by the time they want to take a shower. When you have 8 people in a house, it is not too difficult to imagine that hot water and food will run out very quickly.

I stream with huge caution. For short videos (less than 10mins) I can stream. Maybe even upto 20mins if it's really interesting. Anything higher and I'm downloading a HD version using IDM. Their speed has spoilt me sha. I can't imagine using any of d GSM operators. This means I end up being pinned in Lagos. When I'm out of Lagos I'm not on the Internet unless I'm in Ibadan Porthacourt or Abuja where they have coverage.

My intention is honest and it stems from the fact that Netflix is opening up shop in a country where most people use mobile phones and data cost a fortune. Personally, I do stream Netflix to my cellphone daily on my commute home from work but that's because I have unlimited data with my carrier. As of today, I've used 11,931.53 MB (12GB) of data on my cellphone and my billing cycle ends tomorrow. And even at home, our broadband internet access is unlimited, and Netflix and YouTube are constantly being streamed.

As I alluded to, I'm trying to develop a solution to the problem but I want to better understand the pain-points before wasting my time and resources.

Too many people are over analyzing the situation.
Here's a simple explanation:

1. Nigerians need dollars to buy stuff abroad.
2. Nigeria only prints Naira.
3. Nigeria has to sell something that pays in dollars so that they earn dollars.
4. Oil pays in dollars but we don't make as much money anymore.
5. Regardless of the price of oil, people still need to buy stuff abroad and pay in dollars.

6. You now go to DBCs and banks to buy dollars with your Naira that wouldn't be accepted abroad.
7. BDCs and banks tell you that they don't have dollars to sell for whatever reason.
8. You go to the black market to buy dollars but law of supply vs demand takes over, and you end up paying a crazy exchange rate.

All cbn is trying to do now is to get the dollars closer to consumers instead of DBCs with the hope that it will alleviate some of the noise.

Here's my take: it won't work unless the CBN (1) reduces demand, and/or (2) earns more dollars by selling more stuff abroad. The cbn governor tried to reduce demand buy stopping people for using debit cards for legitimate reasons and that's a mistake. With this new policy, the Cbn probably hopes that selling dollars directly to customers through banks will curb large scale hoarding by rich people wanting to hold their nairas in dollars but the solution will only work temporarily.

The simple non-punitive solution is to earn more dollars by exporting more. The fast punitive solution is to devalue Naira so that people will become poorer and would in turn buy less dollars.
