Fellow Nigerians, I'm seeking your help and advice on a pressing matter. I recently registered my business, but the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) is demanding I pay a whopping N540,000 penalty for late commencement.

The Situation
I started my business last month, and when I went to register it, the CAC told me I had to pay a penalty for not commencing business within 28 days of filing. However, I believe this is an error on their part, as my business commenced when I filed for registration.

The Law
According to Section 815 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) 2020, the commencement date of a business is the date of filing. Therefore, I shouldn't be liable for any penalties or fees related to late commencement.

The Demand
The CAC is demanding I pay N540,000, which is a significant amount for a small business like mine. I'm worried that if I don't pay, my business registration will be delayed or even denied.

What I Want to Do
I want to request a correction to my business commencement date and a waiver of the penalty. If this is not possible, I want a full refund of my payment.

A very sad incident has happened in Lagos. A 42-year-old worker of Eko Electric, Oluwole Orija, lost his life after being electrocuted while on duty in the Ebute Metta area.

This is heartbreaking! 💔 He was just doing his job, trying to provide electricity for the people, but sadly, he didn’t make it back home. Imagine the pain his family must be going through right now. A hardworking man left for work like any other day, not knowing it would be his last.
