PoliticsRe: Braking Nigeria Goverment Reduce Fuel Price by WASMOG(op): 10:31pm On Jan 18, 2015
WASMOG:
fuel price of petrol from N97 per litre to N87 per litre.
The Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, said at an ongoing press conference at the presidential villa, Abuja, that the new price regime would take effect immediately.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke said the N10 reduction in fuel price was necessitated by the reduction in crude oil prices in the international market.
The new measure is a reversal of government’s policy on the matter.
The Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had insisted on December 17 that Nigeria would  not reduce the pump price of fuel despite falling oil prices at the international market, until the revenue crisis occasioned by the dwindling oil rates is over.
Mrs. Okonjo-Iweala said at the time that the decision to review fuel price either upwards or downwards would only be taken after the current crisis in global oil prices had been settled.
But five days ago, on December 13, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, called on the government to implement immediate price reduction on fuel products to reflect the downscaling in global oil prices.
Speaking through his campaign organization, the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council, Mr. Buhari asked the government to “stop stealing from Nigerians and allow them enjoy the relief that has come to consumers of petroleum products globally”.
The APC candidate had said, “The price of diesel which has been deregulated since 2009 still sells at the pump price of N150 and N170 per litre, the same pump price when the international benchmark per barrel of crude was over $100. Now that the international benchmark has dropped to $47.5 (USD) per barrel as at Monday, we ask: where is the deregulation and the relief which it ought to bring to local consumers of diesel?
“For the Nigerian consumers, unfortunately the collapse of crude oil price since October 2014 has not translated into any change in diesel, kerosene and PMS prices across the country.
“We challenge the federal government to reconcile the information on the website of the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, indicating the maximum open market price of diesel per litre in December 2014 as being at N111.6 and the fact that the price has come down to less than $50 (USD) as at Monday.
“We want to posit that that the maximum indicative benchmark open consumers of diesel should pay is at a margin below N100 per litre. Therefore, Nigerians are being short-changed by about N50 to N70 on every litre of diesel sold by government.
“The implication of this is that with average consumption of about 12 to 15 million litres, Nigerians are currently extorted of amounts between N600 Million to N1 Billion daily due to corruption-induced poor regulatory oversight of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources. No wonder some few industry players are smiling to the banks and buying private jets while small scale industrialists who buy diesel on daily basis for power generation and transportation find it difficult to break-even with their businesses.
“Similarly on Kerosene, information available on the website of the PPPRA puts the Open Market Price at N114.71 per litre although the market price is anything above N150 per litre when the global price for a barrel of crude oil was $65 (USD). Now that international price of crude is at $47.5 (USD) per barrel, why are Nigerians still buying kerosene per litre at the same price? Why are Nigerians not benefitting from the global shortfall in the prices of crude by having a cut in the pump prices of petroleum products?
“We are aware that there are examples in other African countries where governments have cut the pump prices of petroleum products to reflect the changes in the global oil market. Countries like South Africa, Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya have announced cuts in pump prices of petroleum products, why can’t the Nigerian government do same?
“Given the failure of government to do the right thing by announcing a cut in the pump prices of these products, we are compelled to draw the conclusion that the federal government is short-changing Nigerians ostensibly to fund the campaign of the PDP presidential candidate.
“The APC Presidential Campaign challenges the federal government to make explanations on why Nigerians cannot benefit pricing reliefs on petroleum products as occasioned by the fall in the global price of crude oil. Anything should of this is a fraud and Nigerians should take note.
“As for PMS (petrol) the only product the government agrees as regulated at N97 per litre, the irony is that it does not even cost much as in the United States, a country that was importing oil from Nigeria until recently.
“Moreover, even the current budget is still heavy on subsidy with an allocation of N458.68 billion, a scheme that has become a conduit pipe over the years for which the children of ruling party leaders have been beneficiaries.”. Police confirm bomb attack on APC office in Rivers
January 11, 2015Premium Times

Members of APC were also attacked after the presidential campaign in Port Harcourt last week.
The police in Rivers on Sunday confirmed that the building housing the All Progressives Congress in Okrika Local Government Area was attacked earlier in the day.
The command’s public relations officer, Ahmad Muhammad, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Port Harcourt that the command had received the report of the dynamite attack.
“I am aware of the incident at Okrika, but the information at my disposal is sketchy,’’ Mr. Muhammad, a deputy superintendent of police, said.
He said that no arrest had been made.
The chairman of the party in the local government, Christian Asifamaka, had told newsmen that unknown persons used dynamite to attack the party’s office in Abam-Ama in the early hours of the day.
The explosion which occurred at 3:14 a.m. destroyed our secretariat building, bringing down the walls.
“The damage was quite extensive with the chairman’s office being the worst hit,’’ Mr. Asifamaka said.
He said the party viewed the latest attack as a deliberate provocation by its opponents to draw it into a battle that would destabilise the local government.
He said that in spite of the attack, the party would tow the path of peace in the interest of the people of the area.
Okrika is the home town of First Lady, Patience Jonathan.

Patience Jonathan faults
scrapping of first ladies’ office
December 29, 2014

The First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, has
faulted the call in some quarters for the
scraping of the office of the First Ladies,
arguing that ” First Ladies have made
profound contributions to the development of
Nigeria.”

Mrs. Jonathan made the explanations in
Umuahia, Abia State while speaking at the
grand civic reception in her honour by her
maternal kinsmen of the Ohuhu clan.
She said that contrary to opinions and wrong
impressions by some people, First Ladies play
essential roles in moving the country forward,
adding that those behind the call might not
have appreciated the good parts being played
by First Ladies.

The wife of the President recalled that she
had through her office touched positively on
the lives of many Nigerian women and
youths, adding that in the same vein many
governors’ wives had also affected lives in
their various states.

She maintained that First Ladies all over the
world play supportive roles which she noted,
were very germane for the successes
recorded by their husbands.

Education11 Bomb Prevention Tips For Public And Privatepremises by WASMOG(op): 10:50am On Dec 26, 2014
• Strictly implement the inspection procedures of
all bags, knapsacks, boxes, merchandise, etc.,
that will enter the establishment or premises.
• Suspicious looking package, paper bags, etc. left
alone should be cautiously scrutinized as possible
bomb(s).
• When suspicious stuff are noted, don’t try to
touch or inspect it. Instead, advice security
personnel/employees to immediately contact the
proper authorities.
• Be observant of people roaming around your
area doing nothing. Vendors with tricycles/
knapsacks/bags should be driven out, as they
may be used as couriers of bombs.
• Advice the security to always observe people
leaving behind bags/packages/boxes in the
garbage cans/bins in the premises.
• Be observant of cars/motorcycle riding
individuals who are suspiciously observing
constantly the establishments.
• Be cautious in opening envelopes and packages
sent to you by unknown individual or package
with no return addresses.
• The greatest safeguard against the effects of
bomb threats is to prevent entry of unauthorized
persons into certain areas, whenever possible.
• Restricted entry and positive identification of
staff and visitors can be significant factors in
assessing the seriousness of any given threat.
• Develop a security plan and a bomb incident
plan in preparation for such incident. The security
plan deals with prevention and control of access
to the building. The bomb incident plan provides
detailed procedures to be implemented when a
bomb is found or threatened.
• Get the involvement of the nearest police
department, fire department, or local
government agencies for any assistance in
developing your security or bomb incident plans.
