I’m a Computer Science graduate currently looking for opportunities to grow my professional experience as a web developer.

I work with React.js, Next.js, Express.js, MongoDB, JavaScript and TypeScript. While in school, I built and shipped web applications for businesses as well as personal projects.

I have also been working remotely with a business for about a year, mainly handling website maintenance, updates and communication with management.

I’m now looking for opportunities where I can contribute, learn and gain more professional development experience. I’m open to internships, junior developer roles, contract work and other relevant opportunities.

I am a nextjs web developer and for a month now i have been applying non stop to get a free remote job and it seems like i am just going around in a circle. I build websites for businesses around me and i have done everything at this point, a portfolio, linkedin, networking but nothing. I am not based in lagos but in benin city and i have realized that most remote jobs they want you to come to lagos when they specifically say the job is remote.

I've even tried applying to worldwide remote jobs through greenhouse, ashby and lever but the actual EMEA remote jobs that hire from nigeria are almost non existent and even the ones that do send me my rejection leter within 2 days

I just need a routine to follow so i know that everyday i wake up i am working towards something. Because being consistent is not my issue, i just need a guide.

The charging IC or battery might be faulty. Engineer in Lagos can fix it for 15-25k. It might also be selecting battery.

Also you will have to clean or change the fan.

If you don't have resources to change the motherboard. That's a good option.

Also you can scrap it out.

8gb ram: 35k
256gb ssd : 35k

Screen: 20-50k depending.

Or remove ssd and ram then sell what is left as scraped for 25k-40k.

The laptop is already bad, we've tried everything even two of the best repairers i have been referred to said turned it back

It is hp elitebook folio 9480m, the battery still lasts 4 hours, it is 8gb of ram and 500gb hdd, the screen and keyboard works perfectly. I am open to scrapping it but i am in benin city, edo state not lagos

For the softwares i am building it needs a 8gb of ram and intel core i5. I have been checking jiji all day and they are all 150k Up, anything 120k either has battery issues, board issues, intel celeron or is a chrome book. Basically it's seems close to impossible to get a laptop for 120k price that isnt a scam. Thats why i am considering changing boards in the first place

Good evening nairalanders, i really need your opinions on this

A few month back i did my sign out as a computer science student and my plan was to spend this time building my skills in web development. I am currently building a software that i want to go into fully as a startup. Unfortunately my laptop has been having charging issues for a while now so far two repairers have told me there is nothing they can do again

They said can either change the motherboard or use it as a desktop and so far i have been managing it as a desktop till yesterday night when i started hearing a very loud noise from the laptop. I tried dusting it but the noise keeps coming from the fan and now it is so slow that it takes about an hour for the laptop to prepare my nextjs project. With Nepa light it isn't possible to work with such constraints.

The prices of devices now are not smiling at all and i dont have the money to get a laptop. Would it be a good move to change the motherboard?

TLDR: The board of my laptop is currently bad and i don't have the money to buy a new laptop would it be a good move to change the motherboard of my laptop?

The game has changed, the field is tighter now and people barely care about your portfolio website anymore. Use your knowledge to build a couple of websites and monetize them through AdSense, it's a little passive income, but it adds up. Or vlog and share your knowledge on social platforms, get paid directly and clients will reach out to you every now and then.

It's tougher for beginners now, but that's just how it is

I understand where you are coming from and alot of people emphasize how bad the job market is right now, the thing is i am not a beginner - i graduated this year but i started learning html when i was 15. So i have been building websites for businesses since i was in 100 level, the issue is there is no consistency, you can have alot of income one month then the next since months nothing. And i do post on instagram This is my handle. Building my professional career is just something i want to accomplish, Thanks for the Adsense tip i will look further into it.

If you are serious about getting into tech you would research what tech is, the different aspects of tech and choose an area of specialization.

So i am a freelancer, i build full stack websites using nextjs, and one thing i have come to realize is that freelancing is does not give me that financial stability i need, some days i am a big boy then the remaining days im soaking garri for a living.

After reading a few books on attaining financial independence i have decided to start a web development agency, essentially i want to create a system where my money is actually working for me and its not the other way around

Now i realize the biggest challenge is getting customers, so i have been reading alot on sales and marketing

I have been going to different businesses to sell my services and i notice one flaw, i dont know how to make a good first impression, i basically dont know how to approach a business for them to give me a listening ear, i can't seem to even get the gateman to understand what i am saying, as soon as i say i build websites it just seems like i am talking gibberish

So i really need advice on this: how do i approach a business. Please does anyone have an idea of how i can go about this

I recently built a website for a hotel and i went ahead to list the property on booking.com, now hes complaining that he cant see the reservations. So i installed the booking.com pulse app but when they tell me to verify the phone number i dont get a message and their customer care numbers are all international numbers. I have tried calling but every minute is at a rate of 450 naira and i have been on the line for 3 mins with no answer, at this point i dont know how i can reach them or what i can do about the situation.

Well then its a good thing you held it, because i believe your github is your github and your portfolio is your portfolio thats why they ask for them seperately on job listings
