To make a professional video, an intro and outro are essential. It is one of the best ways to allow your audience to associate the video to your brand and remember you. Creating Intro and Outro Videos does not have to be complicated and can be done completely free. Let’s see how with the following steps.



Step 1: Choose a background

You can choose a plain color background and display the logo and texts on it. However, I thought that it might be interesting to go with an animated background, adding a livelier feel to it.

There are different websites that provide backgrounds for videos. The one that I like the most is Motion Background for Free at: http://www.motionbackgroundsforfree.com/

Some websites provide images or sounds for free but make sure to read the license carefully. Sometimes, even though it’s free, you might need to give credit to the artwork or sometimes, the uses is only limited for personal use and not commercial use.

To learn more about the different licenses, you can take a look at the following website: http://creativecommons.org/licenses/

Under the Menu “FREE BACKGROUNDS” there is a list of the available categories. Click on the one that you are interested in and you will see a list of videos. Download the one that you want to use for your intro and/or outro.



Step 2: Choose Music and Sounds

With your background chosen, it will give you a feel of the music and sounds needed. The place that I go for FREE sounds and music is Free SFX at: http://www.freesfx.co.uk/

Make sure to read the User License Agreement to see how you should credit the sounds and music.

There are tons of sounds and music to choose from. Just click on the menu: Sound Effects or Music.

Download the sounds that you want to use for your video.



Step 3: Create your Intro and Outro Video

The video editor that I will be using is Windows Live Movie Maker. It is easy to use and it comes with the installation of Windows.

Before diving into Windows Live Movie Maker, I’ll introduce you to the Software: Serif Movie Plus. This software is useful if you want to display an image over a background. In my case, I would like to display my logo on top, over the chosen background. However, it is not possible to do so with Windows Live Movie Maker. Because of this, I will be using Serif Movie Plus to First put the logo over the background and create a video that I will be using with Windows Live Movie Maker to add texts and Visual Effects. This is the best workaround that I found over the Internet.

Why I am not using Serif Movie Plus to do all the video editing work? Because the use of Visual Effects (Page Transitions, special effects…) will add a watermark on the video. To erase the watermark, we will need to go with a premium version. Because adding an image over a background does not create a watermark over the video, we will be using Serif Movie Plus to online do that task and go back with Windows Live Movie Maker for all the other effects.
