A pregnant Nigerian woman’s
plan to use the NHS as an
‘International Health Service’ to
deliver her baby and then have
the child declared a British citizen
was foiled when she was exposed
as a fraud, a court heard.

Oluwaseun Adenubi, 30, used the
passport of her friend, 32-year-old
Rita Ogunkunle, to obtain free
care. After the delivery the friend
and her boyfriend Michael
Adebambo, 46, registered the
baby as theirs.
However, staff at Farnborough’s
Princess Royal University Hospital
realised the medical records of
the genuine Ogunkunle, who had
received acne treatment there,
conflicted with the pregnant
patient claiming to be her.
“The probation service think this is
a plot to use the ‘International
Health Service’ and then take
further advantage — the residency
that comes with that and
everything else,” said Croydon
crown court Judge John Tanzer.

Adenubi, who was granted a
family visit visa which allows her
to stay in the UK for up to six
months, pleaded guilty to fraud
against the hospital between April
and July last year.
Ogunkunle and Adebambo, both
of Orpington, pleaded guilty to
wilfully giving false information
about the registration of a birth by
claiming to be the parents of
Moses Adenubi, at Bromley Civic
Centre.
The couple have now fallen out
with Adenubi, who claims she
found Ogunkunle’s passport on a
bench. Ogunkunle said it was
snatched from her home and
used behind her back.
“The probation service are there
to report what they have been told
and they say they don’t believe a
word of it and neither do I,” added
the judge.
Prosecutor Alexandra Bushell told
the court: “Maybe there was a
motivation to secure the
nationality of the child as a British
citizen and free NHS treatment.
After the baby was born in June
staff realised something was not
right because Ogunkunle has
severe scarring, which the baby’s
mother did not have, and there
were two different blood types for
the same patient.”
Ogunkunle was arrested in
August and claimed Adenubi took
her passport after moving into her
spare room.
“She admitted falsely registering
the birth of the baby and said she
had been introduced to Adenubi
by a friend of her mother’s and
took pity on her because she was
pregnant and had no friends,”
added the prosecutor. “She told
police she was angry at Adenubi
using her identity and tried to beat
her to it by registering the child.”
Miss Bushell went on:
“[Adebambo] said his girlfriend
asked him to go to the register
office to register a birth and said
she told him she did not want
another woman to use her
identity.
“He said he did it out of love for
his girlfriend and was very
remorseful.”
“[Adenubi] claimed she was
fleeing a violent partner in Nigeria
and claimed to have no family
here and no contact with her
family in Nigeria.
“She said she arrived with
nowhere to go and met a Nigerian
man at the airport and others via a
church, but had no details of
those she stayed with.
“She claimed to have found
Ogunkunle’s passport on a bench
and only used it to get free
medical services.” All three were
bailed until a date to be fixed

Health / UN Agency Declares Mali Ebola Virus Free by wedemboiz(m): 2:32pm On Jan 19, 2015
The Malian government and the
United Nations on Sunday
declared the country free of Ebola
after 42 days without any new
cases of the deadly virus.
Health Minister Ousmane Kone
said no confirmed cases had been
registered since December 6
when the last Ebola patient had
tested negative.
“I declare this day… the end of
the epidemic of the Ebola virus in
Mali,” he said in a statement
broadcast on state television
ORTM.
The west African country “had
come out” of the epidemic,
Ibrahima Soce Fall, the head of
the Malian office of the United
Nations Mission for Ebola
Emergency Response (UNMEER),
confirmed.
In accordance with World Health
Organization recommendations,
the spread of the Ebola virus
could be declared over after 42
days without any new cases being
recorded, he said in a separate
statement.
Kone saluted the Malian
authorities and the different
players in the anti-Ebola fight for
“weeks of intense work” that led
to the result.
He also praised Mali’s health
workers and the country’s
partners for their efforts while
urging that basic hygiene and
protective behaviour measures be
kept up.
Seven people died of Ebola in
Mali. The first fatality in October
was a two-year-old girl brought
from neighbouring Guinea to stay
with relatives.
Shortly afterwards, a Muslim
cleric, also from Guinea, died in
the capital Bamako. He
transmitted the virus, directly or
indirectly, to seven other people,
five of whom died.
The last patient to be treated for
Ebola in Mali made a full recovery
and was discharged from hospital
in early December.

Crime / Lotto Boss, Thugs Kill Agent Over Missing N500 by wedemboiz(m): 1:59pm On Jan 19, 2015

The Lagos State Police Command
has arrested a woman, Sade
Onafowopo, for her alleged role in
the death of a lotto agent,
Oluwatosin Efuneye,
Punch Metro learnt that Efuneye
was allegedly beaten to death in
the Ojuelegba area of Lagos by
thugs who were carrying out
Onafowopo’s order to torture the
lotto agent.
Eyewitnesses said Onafowopo,
who was Efuneye’s boss, ordered
the punishment because the
deceased reportedly deducted
N500 from the money paid by a
customer.
Our correspondent gathered that
the incident occurred last
Thursday, January 15, on
Makinde Street, Ojuelegba, where
Onafowopo, popularly called
Shandy, lived and had her lotto
shop.
Our correspondent learnt that 31-
year-old Efuneye, who hailed
from Ijebu Ode, Ogun State,
collapsed during the beating, and
was afterward rushed to a private
hospital in the area where he was
confirmed dead.
The matter was reported at the
Area C Police Command,
Surulere.
When our correspondent visited
Efuneye’s apartment on Olaniyi
Street, Somolu, on Saturday, the
deceased’s father, Pa Efuneye,
said his son still called him on the
phone on Thursday morning that
he was heading for his
boss’ (Onafowopo) place to remit
the lotto proceeds.
He said,
“Tosin (Efuneye) was doing the
lotto business at Esan Ogboogun
Street, Somolu. But he would
normally go to Ojuelegba every
morning to remit the previous
day’s proceeds to his boss,
Shandy. He stayed in this house
with his younger brother. He was
not married.
“What happened on last Thursday
was shocking. I learnt that when
he got to Shandy’s place, the
woman said a customer came to
complain that Tosin had deducted
N500 from the N1,000 which the
customer used to play the lotto.
The customer then claimed he
had won N240,000, and
demanded his winning.
“Shandy did not wait for any
explanation from Tosin. She
arranged for thugs on her street
to torture him. They stripped him
to his underwear, and beat him
up. Shandy did not report to the
lotto’s head office in Lagos State.
She did not report to the family or
to the police.
“She and the thugs beat up Tosin
until he collapsed. They rushed
him to a private hospital, but he
was already dead. When I learnt
about the matter, I called Shandy
on the phone, she refused to pick
my calls.”
Our correspondent learnt that
Onafowopo, a principal lotto
agent, has shops with clerks in the
Ojuelegba and Somolu areas.It
was also gathered that Efuneye,
who was to get married this year,
had worked with Onafowopo
since early 2014.
When Punch Metro got to
Makinde Street, our
correspondent observed that
Onafowopo’s shop and residence
were locked.
Our correspondent gathered that
Efuneye’s relatives had gone to
the lotto’s head office at Surulere
to file a complaint of their son’s
death.
The Lagos State Police
spokesperson, DSP Kenneth
Nwosu, confirmed the incident.He
said Onafowopo was being
interrogated to identify other
miscreants involved in the
incident.
He said,
“The suspect is in our custody,
and she is helping the police with
information to arrest other
suspected killers of the
deceased.”

Politics / Meet Ibime Belema-jonathan,self Aclaimed Son To Goodluck Jonathan by wedemboiz(m): 3:33pm On Jan 18, 2015
Just weeks before the
presidential elections in
Nigeria, a 24 year-old man,
Ibime Belema-Jonathan, has
announced that he is the
illegitimate son of incumbent
President Goodluck Jonathan.
This revelation emerged at the
weekend from an online blogger,
Chukwudi Iwuchukwu, saying
Belema-Jonathan, who claims to
be a native of Nembe, Baylesa
State, had made the
announcement on his Twitter
handle.
The report from the blogger said:
“According to Belema-Jonathan,
his mother was a receptionist in a
Port Harcourt hotel (which shall
remain undisclosed) when she
met Goodluck nearly 25 years
ago.
“Their relationship was made
private because of the risks it
posed to Goodluck’s then fledgling
political career.”
The blogger added that Belema-
Jonathan stated that, “He has
decided to disclose this
information after recently being
informed by his mother, who had
just passed away.
It is his desire for his father to
assume and fulfil his fatherly
duties after a lifetime of absence”,
that led to the revelation.
Iwuchukwu, who claims the
Nigerian Law School, Lagos, as
his address, concluded by
admitting that, “we are in a
season of political campaign and
anything can come up, but the
resemblance is striking.”
Below are photos of President
Jonathan and Belema-Jonathan:
However, Dr Reuben Abati, the
Special Adviser to President
Jonathan on media, has denied
the claim, saying that the
President does not have any
illegitimate sons by whatever
name.
According to Abati, the report is
cheap propaganda from the
opposition party.
The Special Adviser added that
the timing of the report, coming in
the heat of the election campaign,
shows the desperation of some
people.

He said: “It is good for them to
know that propaganda and cheap
blackmails do not win elections.
“Nigerians know who they want
and who they will vote for.
Churning out such blackmail story
will not win the election.
“This is also coming at a time that
the opposition parties signed the
Abuja Accord meant to ensure
that election campaigns are issue-
based and do not degenerate into
blackmail.”

Religion / Nigerians Blasts Pastor Chris Oyakhilome For 1k Gate Fee Charge by wedemboiz(m): 10:58am On Jan 05, 2015
Revelations that worshippers at
the headquarters of Christ
Embassy Church in Lagos had to
pay N1,000 each as gate fee to
attend a New Year’s Eve service
presided over by Pastor Chris
Oyakhilome have shocked many
Nigerians and infuriated others.
Worshippers who wanted to
attend the crossover service at
Christ Embassy’s headquarters on
Billings Way in Oregun Area of
Lagos on 31 December, 2014,
were made to obtain gate passes
that sold for N1,000 each.
Those who could not afford such
passes were turned back and told
that they could go elsewhere to
worship or watch the service
online for free.
While the practice is not new in
Christ Embassy Church, it led to
an uproar in January 2011 after it
was first introduced on 31
December, 2010.
Many people described it then as
extortion, abuse of
‘Jesus’
teachings and another
confirmation that some Nigerian
churches and pastors are more
interested in making money than
winning souls for God.
But the church explained, though
informally, that it was a way of
controlling the crowd and
discouraging thousands of people
who come to church once a year
on 31 December and prevent
“real worshippers” from
securing seats at the
headquarters on that important
night.
The argument did not win many
fans and under a barrage of
criticisms, the church prayed the
matter would be forgotten.
Nigerians also hoped gate fee
collection would stop.
But the practice has continued
and is now seen as routine with
those who cannot afford the
money being turned back on 31
December of every year.
With a sitting capacity of roughly
20,000 seats, Christ Embassy
might have made at least N20
million from the sale of gate
passes used for the crossover
service.
Worshippers in Christ Embassy
and former staff have complained
in the past that the emphasis was
often too much on money in the
church rather than on spiritual
things Jesus Christ taught his
disciples.
While virtually all prosperity
churches in Nigeria apply the
principles of
“giving to the
church to receive from God”,
many say the level of financial
demands and pressures in Christ
Embassy Church is unusually
high.
Since the revelations about the
gate fees collection at Christ
Embassy Church were made
public last week, Nigerians have
continued to express shock,
outrage and indignation with many
finding it hard to believe it.
Many Nigerians expressed their
indignation on the social media,
especially Facebook.
”Gate fee collection appears
good for crowd control in a
theatre or secular concert, but
not sound enough in the house
of God where Christ the head
of the church bids everyone to
come, even when they only
respond once in a year,”
eye
witness said
He said the church should rather
see their once in a year response
as an opportunity to reach out to
the loss (non regular attendees)
and make disciple of them as
Christ commanded.
“Even if the church prefers his
already saved members to
partake in a particular service,
gate pass should have been
given to them at no cost and
they will have the privilege of
going in first.
“The crowd control rationale
for gate fee collection in
church in my opinion is world
based,”
he said.
According to eye witness report,
salvation doesn’t come at a cost.
He said in the Bible, a man who
wanted to pay for salvation was
refused.
Nigerian worshippers are gullible.
“Did God come down through
him (the pastor) that day?,”
he
asked.
“I have watched the man
preach severally and I don’t
know the magic in his sermon
and anointing that keeps
making people fall for his
tricks and gimmicks.
“He quotes one Bible reference
and shouts as if he just
revealed what no man had ever
read or seen in that passage
before and then takes a run
front and back and they all
starts shouting. Just disgusting
most times,”
he said.
To Clement Ali, “does it mean if I
don’t have N1000, I won’t be
allowed into the service?
In that case, his intentions is
the money.”
“Let them continue to pile up
riches for themselves here on
earth where moths will eat up
and where thieves will break
through,”
eye witness said.
He added: “SALVATION IS
FREE and cannot be bought
with money. Jesus said, freely l
gave you, so also, freely ye
shall give.”
According to another eye witness
some people are born spiritually
blind, deaf and dumb.
“However you preach to them
they will never hear and
understand,”
she said.
I could not believe that gate fees
were collected at Christ Embassy
Church on 31 December.
“Somebody should please tell
me this is not true. If it is true it
means corruption is now
everywhere,”
eye witness said.
Another Eye witness asked
sarcastically; ”
Are you people
just realising now that most of
these so called Men of God are
con men? People have been
paying for prayers, so why
can’t they pay for venue?”
“Why are we going to blame a
business name for doing his
business, he is bussines man
not a Pastor for real”.
Many others who commented on
the social media were critical of
Oyakhilome and Christ Embassy
Church, urging the church to stop
the practice.
Others even asked for tax officials
to step in.
With over 70 per cent of Nigerians
living in abject poverty and on less
than two dollars a day, many
believe that demons are
responsible for their financial,
physical and emotional problems.
They run to pastors for healing,
miracles, blessing and protection.
But once in church, pastors often
tell worshippers that to prosper
and be blessed by God, they need
to give ten per cent of all their
income as tithe to God. Some also
say they need to give ten percent
of all their increases.
By giving to God, they mean, they
need to
“sow a seed in the
church”. When they give money
to the church, worshippers
are told, the “money goes into
their future” to transform their
lives.
To refuse
“to sow a seed” is “to
condemn oneself to a life of
hardship and misery”,
pastors
say.
But while few worshippers
eventually prosper, it is the
pastors who end up becoming
extremely rich.
Many Nigerians pastors now own
businesses, cars, houses, and
investments within and outside the
country. Some even own private
jets.
Many say with his business model
and financial strategies in the
church, Oyakhilome was named
by Forbes as one of the richest
pastors in Nigeria.
He travels around the world in a
jet and moves around Lagos with
bodyguards and heavily armed
policemen.

Education / How To Use The Apostrophe by wedemboiz(m): 10:08pm On Dec 22, 2014

The apostrophe may be the most
misunderstood punctuation mark
in English. There are even
websites dedicated to cataloging
its misuse. Most punctuation
marks fall between words to
separate ideas or grammatical
clauses, but the apostrophe is
used within words and to combine
multiple words which befuddles
even native speakers.
This small mark has two primary
uses: to signify either possession
or omitted letters. Rather than say
“the friend of Sam,” one can say
“Pam’s friend” by adding a ‘s to
the possessor (in this case, Pam).
As for the second use, some
common English words can be
combined into a contraction, such
as isn’t, don’t, and you’re. We
often collide sounds and letters
when speaking for the sake of
convenience, and the apostrophe
helps written language reflect its
spoken equivalent. The word
apostrophe comes from the Greek
word apóstrophos which refers to
a mark used in Greek to signify an
omitted letter. It literally means a
“mark of turning away.”
The apostrophe causes so much
strife in part because it’s the
culprit in two of the most
commonly confused pairs in
English: you’re/your and it’s/its.
Possessive pronouns (like your
and its) never take apostrophes,
but their soundalike friends are
contractions that require
apostrophes. We all struggle with
these when writing and
proofreading our work, but here’s
a trick: try replacing the ‘re or ‘s
with are or is. If the syntax works,
then you need the apostrophe; if
not, it’s the possessive pronoun.
For example, “It’s Sunday” can be
written “It is Sunday,” while “The
school locked its doors” cannot be
written “The school locked it is
doors.” Likewise, “You’re late” can
be written “You are late,” while “I
saw your note” cannot be written
“I saw you are note.”
What about when you see an
apostrophe at the end of the
word? If there are multiple
possessors, as in the teachers’
dog (which refers to a dog
belonging to multiple teachers),
the apostrophe is placed outside
of the s. But in English there’s
always an exception. For plural
nouns that do not end in s, add ‘s,
e.g. women’s rights. Also, the
apostrophe is added for the
possessive of a noun that is plural
in form but singular in meaning,
e.g. mathematics’ formulas.
Lastly, for joint possession, the ‘s
is added to the word nearest the
object of possession, e.g. Francis
and Kucera’s book.
The apostrophe has a number of
other lesser-known uses. It can
replace omitted numbers (e.g. the
class of ’72, the ’20s, etc.) and
letters e.g. gone fishin’. It can also
be used to indicate plural letters,
as in p’s and q’s, two A’s and four
B’s, etc.
Some pundits want to do away
with the apostrophe altogether.
Do you think that’s a good idea?
