Several people have been feared dead
following a fatal road crash involving two
cash loaded bullion vans and a tanker in
Abudu, Orhionnwon LGA in Edo, on
Thursday, December 8, The Punch reports. It was gathered that not only were lives lost,
millions of naira got burnt after the bullion
vans collided with the tanker.
The cash loaded bullion vans went ablaze
after colliding with the tanker, a source
revealed. Two commercial buses were also affected in
the fatal crash. However, shortly after the crash, security
men were mobilised to the scene to prevent
more damages. The road crash also led to
heavy traffic. Reacting to the incident, Haliru Gwandu, the
Edo state commissioner of police, Haliru
Gwandu, said he only received the report of
a fatal accident in Abudu. He denied any knowledge about two cash
loaded bullion vans going up in flames Gwandu said he only received a report
about a fatal accident from DPO in Abudu. The accident in Edo state comes just days
after 13 people lost their lives.

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters (DHQ) wednesday said it would punish or dismiss soldiers found culpable in the alleged raped of some women in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the North-east where the military is fighting the Boko Haram
insurgency. The Director of Defence Information, Defence Headquarters, Brig. Gen. Rabe Abubakar, told THISDAY yesterday in Abuja that the military was not taking such alleged cases of rape lightly. He explained the DHQ was ready to swing into action to deal decisively with any soldier involved in the ugly incident. Abubakar said: “On soldiers arrested for raping IDPs; we have said that if there is any case of sexual harassment and abuse, it will definitely attract the attention of the DHQ. Our position is that such cases must be investigated and those officers involved must
be thoroughly dealt with. “Like what happened in Maiduguri, Borno State, three weeks ago, a serving senior non-commissioned officer assaulted a 10- year-old girl.

The Ebonyi State Governor, David Umahi, has reduced the tuition fee paid by student of the State University by
N10,000.

The reduction, according to the governor was to bring to an end the prolonged
agitation by students over the increase of
tuition fee by the past administration in the
state.


Umahi had during his campaign promised to
reduce the fees if he won the 2015 election. He, however, ordered for the reduction during an interactive session with the management and staff of the university at Ezzamgbo, in the state. He said the reduction would take effect from next year for both students of Ebonyi origin and non-indigenes of the institution. Umahi said, “Now, there is going to be conditional reduction of school fees. If there
is any case of cultism I will reverse it. So, I
have reduced every body’s school fees,
both indigenes and non-indigenes by N10,000 each.” The governor, however, warned against
criminal and cult activities.

A bottled water seller in Owerri, the Imo state capital, identified as Chibueze Uguru, has been killed. The man was yesterday crushed to death by a heavy duty truck that lost control. According to an eyewitness, the truck with the registration number, Lagos XY – 844 –EKS, lost control at the the holy ghost
secondary school – Assumpta road and hit a
non moving pay loader before ramming on the young man who was hawking on the road side which led to his instant death . The eyewitness said that the truck which was conveying sharp sand stocked in cement bags, was coming into town from the Onitsha road before officials of Imo
