UNIPORT SUG ELECTION AND THE UNTOLD ELECTION SITE FAILURE


It is no longer news that the University of Portharcourt Students Union Government (SuG) have been operating online Voting for 2 sessions now, and it has been smoothly running, answering questions that arises. As every other electronic process, it has its own flaws and reservations, but to the extent of human comprehension.

Most people believe that the Process is a tool for manipulation, and all candidates that have emerged from that process have been a Product of Electronic Manipulation, and electoral Fraud.

For some of us, we believe that we most advance beyond the manual settings, and compete with other Institutions with modern methods of doing things devoid of Crises, Electoral Violence, and lots of financial commitments. I have no regrets supporting Online Voting, especially when all questions concerning the Process are answered before the Election finally commences.

ON THE FORTHCOMING SUG ELECTION IN UNIPORT



With the information available to me, both from Contestants, Students, and the sites earmarked for Voting, it is Crystal clear that the SUG elections cannot hold or the Process will hold with lots of irregularities. This are my reasons:


1) The process which entails registration ought to have started at least a week before the election, but the Process commenced 4 days to the stipulated election date, limiting Students chances of getting useful information about the site, and their Participation (yet with irregularities).

2) In as much as we are complaining of the late registration, we discovered that the site crashed just 4hrs after launching, and the information registered with it was all lost. This gave room for another remodeling, and the Process Of Registration cancelled and n new registration just commenced today, one day to the elections.


3) With the information and method applied for the registration, an individual can register as many times as possible. The only changes required is just an e-mail. I know so many persons that have registerd more than 10 times, with different e-mails( if you doubt, try it yourself).


4) Information Reaching me is that there is a Grand plan to Rig the elections in favour of a Particular Candidate(name withheld for Personal reasons, but known to all Key Players, even if I don't believe rumuors, but work with it). My concern is not whose court the ball is rolled to, but at least the process should present itself to be fair from the Onset, and the contestants should feel that sense of fairness at least before the election day.


MY HUMBLE APPEAL TO SAVE THE INSTITUTION FROM FURTHER EMBARRASSMENT



That the Process has lost its credibility already, unless the Election shall be shifted to a later date, else the irregularities are so glaring to go ahead with the elections.
The relevant Authorities should rise up and face the Reality, except the accusations against the process is true.

Most of us love UNIPORT so much that we won't like to see it in bad light after now, considering the looming agitations.

I therefore appeal to all Students interest to be Law abiding, hoping that a reasonable compromise will be reached in this regards. Goodluck

Following the ongoing process and development of the forth coming University of Port harcourt Student Union Election which is slated to hold on the 8th of July, 2021. The following irregularities were found playing out in the process of the making the election a success..and I have every reason to blame the electoral committee which was supposed to be free and unbiased. This eleco lead by comr. David ajienka have let themselves to be used and I call on Nigeria students with this following observations to take actions in halting this said election since it has lost it credibility.
1. The Due date for Registration of Nigeria students on the voting site was altered and there by making the Nigeria student uncomfortable with the process.

2. the voting site was released and suspended after few hours of its release and as we write, no U2016/U2015 has been able to register if any only but few which is sending a signal that most of the Nigeria student of this prestigious university has been denied the access to exercise their franchise of voting in who they want.

3. During the Student Union election Manifesto today 7th of July, 2021, an Aspirant who has been campaigning for the office of the President stepped down on the manifesto ground to go for the office of the Senate President of which the Eleco deadline for submission of forms ended on th 30th of June 2021. The Nigeria Students are uncomfortable with the proceeding and the Eleco should come and explain to all Nigerian student how the aspirant managed to fill a form of the office of Senate President when the date of Eleco submission and security screening has passed.and same aspirant was later cleared for the office of the president after taking manifesto for senate president before the Nigeria students in the convocation arena.

Following these accounts, the Nigerian students are coming out to say that the irregularities are too much for a free and fare election in our prestigious university and on that note we are writing to all authorities who is responsible for penalty and proper checking of electoral proceeding should come in and see to these matter arising to affirm the Nigerian student that their vote are safe and secured.

I, Ali Dickson Izuchukwu, the Senate President of the Students' Union did not and am not mobilizing any Student for protest in school against the election. I am an ardent believer of dialogue and negotiation. I believe that whatever be the case in the election, it can be resolved in a round table discussion. I am only suggesting that all eligible students should be allowed to excercise their voting rights as the registration period of the election is too short, and only some levels are allowed to register and vote which is against the Constitution. The Constitution allows all students' who paid their fees to participate in the voting process apart from those in their first year. So why will the voting system disenfranchise some levels, including myself as a final year student.
I call on all students to remain calm and law abiding as our able Dean of Student Affairs, who is a listening father will hear our requests and make necessary adjustments to allow all eligible Students participate in the election. The Electoral Committee should also be as neutral as possible so as not to betray the trust reposed on them by the Students.

After due Consultations and careful observation of the irregularities marring the 2021 SUG Election, I wish to express my total displeasure and lack of confidence in the 2021 electoral Committee Led by Comr. It is sad and shameful how young people and supposed leaders of tomorrow sell the mandate of their fellow students for peanuts.
