In one of his last acts as Tennessee governor, Bill Haslam, on Monday, granted executive clemency to Cyntoia Brown, commuting her life sentence for murder and making her eligible for release on Aug. 7, 2019.

Under the conditions for her release, Brown will be required to undergo regular counseling, work at least 50 hours of community service, and get a job.

Brown, a victim of child sex trafficking, was sentenced to life for the killing of 43-year-old Johnny Allen in 2004. .

She was 16 at the time and living with her 24-year-old boyfriend, a love-vendor known as “Kut Throat” who forced her into prostitution and raped her.
Allen solicited her for sex, and she shot him dead at his home, saying she thought he was reaching for his gun to kill her, according to court documents.

Brown was tried as an adult and convicted of first-degree murder, among other charges. She was sentenced to life in 2006.
In December, Tennessee’s Supreme Court ruled that Brown must remain in prison for at least 51 years before she was eligible for release.

A driver operating on one of the car hailing services Nigeria, met his Waterloo, early this morning, after allegedly stealing a phone belonging to his client in Lagos

The suspect had gone to drop the lady at her Omole Estate Phase 1 home, but when she stepped inside to get money to pay for the ride, the man allegedly stole her iPhone 8.

Upon her return, she discovered that her phone was missing, but the driver denied having anything to do with its sudden disappearance. However, a search was conducted and in the end, the phone was found safely hidden in the car’s sunroof, prompting the driver to be punished and later freed after confessing and apologizing.

Lady commits suicide after her boyfriend left her in Abuja

A graduate of the Federal Polytechnic, Nassarawa State, has allegedly committed suicide after her boyfriend left her to marry another lady and informed her that he wants to focus on his home

It was gathered that Joy Mariam drank poison, yesterday, in Abuja, and was rushed to a hospital where she eventually died. According to an inside report, after drinking the poison, Joy called a friend to reveal the action she just took.

A suspected ritual story involving popular video vixen/model Wendy and her boyfriend, Best Jide, is currently developing in Benin, Edo State. Wendy is said to have bled to death, yesterday, and her boyfriend is being accused of using her for ritual. .

According to a recent chat she had with a friend before her death, she said she dreamt that she was bleeding and was told, in the dream, that her boyfriend had used her for ritual. In the chat, she revealed that when she woke up, she discovered that she was bleeding, prompting her to call her pastor, who confirmed that Best had indeed used her.

Wendy went on to reveal that the pastor told her to have a river bath within 3 days or risky losing her life. However, it seems she eventually lost the battle. Meanwhile, when contacted, the boyfriend denied having a hand in her death. But while Jide has gone private on Instagram, Wendy’s friends have since started storming her social media pages to mourn her.

A 40-year-old lady identified as Abimbola Mutiat, has died, days after a high tension cable fell on her around Sòlébò Estate, Aga Ikorodu, Lagos, while seeing off a visiting friend.


The incident happened around 7pm on December, 9, 2018. She was subsequently rushed to the lkorodu General Hospital, from where she was transferred to Gbagada General Hospital where she died on New Year’s Day.

A former banker, Emmanuel Onuma, is currently in Police custody after he was caught breaking into the Automated Teller Machine gallery of the bank he once worked with to steal N14million.

The 34-year-old was said to have carried out the heist at the Garki, Abuja branch of the new generation bank on October 19, 2018.

Parading Onuma alongside other suspects in Abuja on Wednesday, the Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Valentine Olumese, said the ex-banker was dismissed in August for fraudulent activities.

“On November 1, in furtherance of an ongoing investigation, police operatives attached to the Garki Division arrested one Emmanuel Onuma, who broke into the ATM lobby of a bank located in Garki on October 19 at about midnight and stole the sum of N14m,” Olumese stated.

He explained that the suspect confessed that he converted the money to $33,000 in Abuja and Kaduna for ease of movement.

“Upon his arrest, the following amounts of money were recovered from him as exhibits: cash sum of $28,000; N1,650,120 and nine pieces of Ghana cedis. Other exhibits recovered from him include one new SIM card and flight tickets,” the commissioner added.

Onuma, in an interview with journalists, admitted to the crime, stating that he carried out the act because the bank failed to pay his benefits after sacking him.

“I worked with the bank for 11 years and I was not settled; no benefits, no settlement; but there is no justification for doing something wrong,” he stated and declined making further statements.

Two students of the Bondo Technical Training Institute and Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, Kenya, drowned after a selfie went wrong, over the weekend.

According to Nation, Sharlet Atieno and Derick Ouka had planned their usual Saturday outing to Siaya town, and it was the second time the pair and two other friends — Beatrice Stephanie Atieno and Steven Omondi — had planned for a photo shoot on the banks of River Yala. .

Usually, the young women would apply traditional make-up and don wrappers for the session. Atieno, a first-year student, was all set and posed for a photo on the rocks. .

The picture was to be taken by Ouka, a second-year student, but suddenly, Atieno slipped and fell into the river. Her friends initially thought it was a prank. .

“We burst into laughter but that soon turned into panic when she failed to resurface,” Stephanie said. Realising how dire the situation was, Ouka jumped into the river in an attempt to rescue her. However, he was overwhelmed by the current.

Starboy Wizkid has reportedly joined the list of the highest paid artistes in the world, after he performed at a Royal Wedding at one of the world’s top private residences, Umaid Bhawan Palace in India.

He was reportedly paid 50 million Rupees ($681,200, N245.9 million). Wizkid and his Band gave a Live Performance at the wedding yesterday, and he got Indians dancing to Soco, Fake Love and more.

A suspected billionaire kidnapper, Evans, has narrated how SARS officers and IGP Intelligence response team, IRT, members killed 30 people while torturing him. According to the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, Evans made the revelation, on Friday, during his trial at the Ikeja High Court in Lagos. His words, “Insp. Haruna (member of IG’s IRT) took me to the I-G’s Guest House at Obalende, Lagos. Sunny, the 2 I/C (second in command) to Abba Kyari, Head of the IRT, Mr Christian Ugu, Mr Phillip and other police officers were there.

Ugu was smoking, he quenched the cigarette on my hand. They took me to the backyard. Phillip then asked the policemen to walk on me and when I started bleeding, he said you think we are joking here. At the backyard, I saw some people that I was paraded with. Phillip ordered Haruna to bring a big brown cellotape, handkerchief and poly bags. Haruna forced a handkerchief into the mouth of one of them. He used the cellotape to tightly tape his mouth and face and put a poly bag over his head and cellotaped it, and used another poly bag and cellotaped it for the second time, and they left the man on the ground. The man on the ground was shaking; he peed, defecated on himself, after a while, he went quiet. Haruna then told me can you see I have travelled him.

Phillip asked if I knew the method of killing and I said no; they said that it is called ‘Saddam Hussein’. He said that there is no way an autopsy can predict the cause of death of the five people they had just killed. Evans said after witnessing the execution, 25 sheets of paper were brought for him to sign as his confessional statements. He noted he was trembling with fear. Abba Kyari told me to beg for forgiveness in my interview with journalists, and also to inform the world I had cancer which I don’t have. The police also killed one Felix Chinemeri in my presence,” he added

After listening to the submission of Evans, the trial judge, Hakeem Oshodi adjourned the case until November 23 for continuation of defence in the trial-within-trial.
