A housemate has been evicted from Big Brother Africa for punching a female contestant, following criticism from women's rights activists. South African producers had initially allowed Hannington Kuteesa to remain on the show, despite his assault on Lerato Sengadi on Tuesday. Ms Sengadi's family had planned a protest to demand his removal. Activists had said letting him remain could perpetuate the belief that African men had the right to hit women. TV company M-Net had told Mr Kuteesa, from Uganda, to apologise to South African Ms Sengadi during one of their recordings. It also provided counselling to both contestants. But on Friday, the housemates in Johannesburg were told that after "very careful consideration and consultation", Mr Kuteesa had been evicted. Big Brother said he had "anger problems" and advised him to continue seeing a therapist. Ms Sengadi was also admonished for insulting Mr Kuteesa during a heated argument before the punch was thrown. She was banned from drinking alcohol and put on dishwashing duties for the remainder of the contest. 'Immoral' Wendy Isaacs from People Opposing Women Abuse (Powa) welcomed the decision to remove Mr Kuteesa but told the BBC: "It should have happened sooner - the incident happened on Tuesday. "For the young girl to have been in the same environment for that long is inappropriate. "We hope that M-Net and such shows now realise that they have a high responsibility to guard against perpetuating stereotypes about women abuse, especially in a society where such abuse is prevalent." This is the fifth version of Big Brother Africa, which began with 14 contestants from different countries. It is broadcast across the continent on satellite TV and some terrestrial channels, and is one of the continent's most popular reality TV programmes. bbc.co.uk/news/world-africa-11341566 So finally something interests me in the Overfished waters of Big Brother (They ought to have stopped the minute a Nigerian won. Anybody?) but it's also one that has got so called "womens right activists" working overtime tring to make a point, and make a point they have by forcing big brother to evict a contestant for hitting a lady - allbeit deservedly. I'm not watching, but knowing Lerato I dont think this is the first time she has deserved a good punch. I for one wouldnt just hit a lady, but lets face it some deserve nothing less. e.g Lerato! |

Got tired reading this by the time I got 2 d second paragraph, but somehow I kept on reading and had a good laugh at the end. Maybe a bit too detailed but very funny all the same. Just what I needed - a good laugh. |
The only way he can win is if he's adopted by the PDP. He does not stand a chance with any other party cos the PDP isnt ready to loosen its grip on this Nation. As much as I hate to say it, I think Ribadu should join the PDP, he has about enough goodwill to go places - maybe not the presidency yet, but He still can be useful to the nation as long as he stays close to the corridors of power and thats what the PDP is! |
Utomi is from Delta State but he cannot win the Governorship in Delta state, not because anyone that will be fielded in the next ten years come close to him in terms of political or intellectual ability but because he is an unknown quantity even in his own state! He simply does not have enough "political clout" in the Nigerian sense, to matter in our nations politics ( at least for now ). Utomi only appeals to the intellectual class, the news savvy, U and i who appreciate his intellectual prowess. In todays Nigeria our influence is limited to Nairaland and the pages of Newspapers, those that count are the political moneybags and the over 80% of our population that live on less than a dollar a day that are content with selling their votes for their share of a "bag of salt" or bag of rice during Christmas, afterall what other guarantee do they have that they'll be remembered after the elections? These two groups are locked in a seeming symbiotic but ultimately parasitic relationship and all we can do for now is watch! The only way to conquer these parasitic group is to infiltrate their ranks and set your agenda when you get to the top. Utomi is an independent therefor he stands no chance just like Donald Duke, but the likes of Fashola and Ribadu have what the others lack, not just respect but popularity not just with you and I but also among the political moneybags and the downtrodden. Utomi is good but blossomed with the wrong generation. Too bad. |
Mazi, we should vote for him because , Or are we just supposed to be so impressed by his academic and entrepreneural accomplishments? |
By Evelyn Usman Last Monday uproar along Keffi- Akwaga Road, Nasarawa state, got residents of the area wondering what the problem was, as members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) fled in different directions. Decency was thrown to the dust as some of them reportedly fled half nude and bare footed, jumping into any available means of transportation, from a camp located about a kilometre behind a police post, which is used as orientation of the NYSC members. In their confused states, most of them fled, leaving their property at the mercy of the invaders who were later discovered to be officials of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC). However, some of the unlucky ones were whisked away in the NSCDC vehicle. Not too long, reason for the invasion was discovered to be that the orientation camp which has been in existence for some time was illegal. Other startling revelations about the clamp down according to spokesman for the NSCDC, Mr Okeh Emmanuel, revealed that some of the corps members were students from different higher institutions of learning who did not graduate owing to problems associated with carry over courses. Others, according to Emmanuel, were students of satellite campuses, Distance learning programmes and Part time study centres, who are not permitted to partake in the compulsory one year youth service. Preliminary investigation according to Emmanuel, revealed that a syndicate which key members are on the run, instituted the fake orientation camp. This, they succeeded in doing with the alleged connivance of some key members of the NYSC headquarters, Abuja. Emmanuel stated further that preliminary investigation also revealed that a total number of three hundred fake Corp members went through the compulsory one month orientation at the camp and were awaiting deployment to their respective areas of primary assignment which was to take place on Tuesday 27th July, 2010, when luck ran against them. Astonished at the discovery, Emmanuel hinted: “As an organized crime, the whole exercise is a syndicate thing made up of a cartel all over the country with agents both in the tertiary Institutions, NYSC Office and so on. “Investigation so far revealed that the Agent at the South-East in whose account money was deposited by one of the victims as indicated in the teller, is called Chinedu Ogene Uchendu while that of South-South axis is called Osita, and Steve Agabi, a staff of University of Jos coordinated the axis. From the arrested persons’ statement, there is a link between the coordinators and staff of NYSC headquarter, Abuja, where one Mr. Abraham was mentioned”. Nursing mother also arrested A total of sixty-nine fake corps members according to him were arrested. Among them was a nursing mother who reportedly came to the camp with her child. During interrogation, Emmanuel said the arrested fake corps members confessed to have paid as much as N70,000 to N150,000 to their agents , in order to take part in the compulsory one year service at the end of which they would be issued NYSC discharge certificates. They were said to have also confessed that the gentle man agreement did not include their benefitting from the Federal government monthly allowance. NYSC and NSCDC on manhunt for collaborators Expressing shock at the dexterity with which the cartel operates, Emmanuel said, “As at the time of parading the fake Corpers before members of the press by the Deputy Commandant General, Operations, Mr.Evans Ewurum, the representative of NYSC Director General Dr. John Abuluera, Director of Procurement attested to the fact that insinuation and suspicion about the influx of fake Corps members have been on air and as a matter of fact that the DG had set in motion all necessary machinery to track down suspects. “The Director of Mobilisation, Mrs Michala stressed that the agency with the aid of the DG will not relent in their pursuit of purging the system of fake corps members, as well as hunting for personnel that are likely to be involved in this type of heinous crime. She also assured that they would not only lose their job but face prosecution in line with the law of the land” The collaboration with the various security agencies of government according to him was what lead to the arrest by Civil Defense Officers, adding that the arrest would serve as deterrent to others. The arrested corps members as gathered, were immediately charged to an upper Area Court, Keffi for further prosecution. vanguardngr.com/2010/08/04/nscdc-uncovers-illegal-nysc-orientation-camp/ What I'm wondering is why parade the victims and leave out the actual culprits and refer 2 them simply as " one Abraham" bla bla bla, After this show boding by the NSCDC you can be assured that nothing will be heard of the actual Crime leaders.

rethink:Really wish I could but typing just isnt my thing. THE NEWS of 21st June 2010. Its out of the stands now so I dont how u'll find it but goodluck anyway and if you eventually get it, You wont regret your effort. Its a collectors item! Wld have scanned the front page but my scanner is having non of it. |
rethink:[b]U try well well, no be only type out the whole thing! The simple truth is that the man was turned inside out in search of a stain but they simply could not find any!, So they simply settled for non declaration of assets considering the ease with which files and records in their care could get missing without anyone noticing.Afterall no one noticed when he declared them in the first place simply because no one cared cos it never really made any difference! |
cre8tivity:Now You're going to make me type out the entire interview lol. Here's a little more excerpt. I'm quoting Ribadu in the same interview "how could I possibly get into work as Chairman of EFCC without declaring my assets? How? It's not possible because the law says for you to be cleared at the senate, you must declare your asset. It was done. secondly, the very week i left NIPSS, I collected the forms and so on." If I may ask, how far can you keep the rules when every other person is breaking it? |
You’ve got to love the mallam for something even if you find yourself a “Ribadu Hater” as so many have come to be these days. Came across this interview with “THE NEWS” 21st June 2010… and I couldn’t help but laugh at his opinion of Dubai and feel sorry for an entire country that could only sit and watch as her only Son that has proven his integrity was kicked and ridiculed by political mercenaries. You can hate the mallam all you like but people like me just can’t stop loving him and believe He has already charted his course in life which definitely is upwards! Here are excerpts. I don’t have an online link so don’t ask for one. THE NEWS: The other leg of the question I said I was going to ask is the one about house or houses in Dubai. Because very recently, there was an interview Mrs. Farida granted TheNation in which she was hinting that well, some people are so clever, they could manage to hide houses somewhere, probably bought in somebody’s name and all that. And Aondakaa also hinted at that before. Let us know the real situation. Do you or did you own houses in Dubai? RIBADU: Well, what is special about houses in Dubai? Why didn’t you ask that did you own UBA or maybe Skye Bank? Why are you particular about houses in Dubai, what is the big deal about Dubai? For God’s sake, it’s the greatest insult for anybody to say I own a house in bloody, F#*king Dubai! If you give me the entire Dubai, I don’t want it, not to talk of a silly house in Dubai. Why didn’t you even say Guaranty Trust Bank? Nonsense. I mean, how silly can people be. And then they get away with it, with people even giving them newspaper pages for them to write this rubbish? If or assuming that is true, you think I will be sitting here? Even if I used God’s name they would get it. You forget what these guys did to me? Now they talk of hiding a house? It’s silly. Idiots! This is somebody who was given $15million in cash. How much is a house in Dubai worth for God’s sake? If I could take that money to Central Bank and then register it and use it as an evidence to prosecute an individual, for God’s sake I deserve far more respect than that. What am I going to do with the house, what is the house worth? And then you talk about Dubai of all places, Dubai? Haba , give me respect for God’s sake. THE NEWS: If you run into Mike Aondoakaa and Okiro, will you shake hands with them? Why not? I have no problem whatsoever. I have never taken it personal. I think they are just people who somehow never got it right. Who abused their office and misused their authority. I would rather move on. Afterall , where are they today?. Where are they? All of them. Why should I feel angry? THE NEWSThey got you out of the police at a time you were not ready? Ribadu: That’s it. It’s so sad. But then some others were even killed. Some people lost their lives, not just even losing their jobs.

The US government wants the head of Nigeria's election commission replaced ahead of new polls due in 2011. Independent National Election Commission (Inec) chairman Maurice Iwu has been blamed for the flawed elections in 2007. US Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Johnnie Carson said Mr Iwu was incapable of organising a credible election. Nigeria is the third largest supplier of oil to the US. The 2007 poll overseen by Mr Iwu was widely criticised for irregularities such as ballot-stuffing and voter intimidation. The election was won by Umaru Yar'Adua, although legal challenges to the result lasted for months afterwards. Mr Iwu's current term as Inec chairman ends in June 2010 and the Obama administration is keen that his past record be taken into account when a new chairman is appointed. Sick president The US demands came as a new US-Nigeria Binational Commission was formally inaugurated to improve co-operation between the two countries in areas such as trade, good governance and food security. President Yar'Adua has not been seen in public since he fell ill in November 2009. There was speculation that Mr Yar'Adua had in fact died. However, Muslim and Christian clerics who have visited him over the past week say that, although in poor health, the president is still alive. "We said the purpose of visiting him was to see if he actually exists," Ibrahim Datti Ahmed, chairman of the Supreme Council for Sharia in Nigeria, told the BBC's Focus on Africa programme last week. Mr Yar'Adua's duties have been assumed by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan. In March, Mr Jonathan dissolved the entire cabinet and made new nominations, most of which were accepted by Nigeria's senate last week. Mr Jonathan's new cabinet is expected to be formally inaugurated later on Tuesday. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8604733.stm Mr Jonathan, Over to you! |
The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Muiz Banire, gave this advice in a statement, stating that the weather condition “is hazardous for asthma patients and people with respiratory diseases”. Banire, however, urged Lagosians to remain calm, saying it “is just another manifestation of change in the climate condition”. According to him, what “is being experienced is the delayed harmattan wind that was supposed to have blown in December/January that is coming now”. He said samples taken yesterday showed high level of particulate matters in the air. He noted that the North-east wind that blows across the Sahara Desert carries with it a lot of dust and the weather is very humid. Any rainfall any moment from now, according to him, may have muddy particles; as such the public is advised not to use it for human consumption. That is for cooking or direct drinking. Banire said the public would be kept abreast of developments in that direction and constantly advised on steps to take for general safety. http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=169261 There goes your SMOG! |
Maybe its smog where u guys are but its definitely Harmattan where I am (Warri). Heres a simple but very practical check; Turn on your radio/TV (not cable/satellite) and tune and see how many extra stations u'lld receive, I did and virtually all the choice Lagos channels were queing up in my wired radio. now thats not becos of SMOG!. Before Cable TV and satellites brought TV much closer, the Harmattan season used to be the choice season becos of the options it gave in terms of Tv stations, So unless someone can prove SMOG also does that, then its got to be the big H making a late return which isnt even that strange considering we barely had any at all in the season it was due. The wooden doors, and furniture all around are responding to the familiar stretch of the Harmattan and U'd think we would recognize our African winter whenever it chose to come. Relax its Gods relief from the blazing heat |
