This is exactly why someone said 3/4 of NID's lack insight into any Sensible thing that has got to do with Nigeria, imagine all these insults on a country and its Inhabitants because of some perceived MALTREATED Chickens! What on earth is wrong with you lot? Isnt there a reason Nigeria is called a developing nation? In the perfect-no-wrong society where u live were Its citizens born respecting chickens or they matured into it? Did they not fight for racial equality, gender rights etc before they got to 'chicken rights'? You expect a man with a family to feed earning less than a $ a day to hire a wagon just to make CHICKENS Comfortable? Animals that the only reason we r yet to chew them into extinction is becos we dont want to be denied their taste on our tongues? So this is enough reason for Jakumo to start yappin about corpses bursting in the streets and EzeUche to refer to Nigerians in Nigeria as visionless? This is an outrage!

@monkeyleg, And which is the opposition u speak of? AC? ANPP? AD? Which is it? Which of them represent anything better than what we have with d PDP? R u going 2 start building dat credible opposition with 3 months 2 an election? What alternative do u as a revolutionary thinker have to offer? Do u have any idea of the power at the disposal of the pdp? I seriously doubt that cos if u did u would realize that our quickest way to realizing our dream of a new Ngr is thru this same virus called the PDP and GEJ represents a unique opportunity. of course there is no certainty to what he'll turn out to be but what alternative have we got?
To answer your first questn its No, outside the PDP and d presidency,GEJ would have been a political nonentity like Saraki, and unlike utomi and Ribadu nothing to sway d crowd with, condemned to political abyss. And i would av chosen to save my breath.but with incumbency and the power of d PDP, he's the best among the PDP lot.

Anyway saying its not IBB u're supporting is just escapist cos eventually if he losses d pdp nomination, he'll probably get anoda partys nominatn as easily as i can get a hot dinner and thats were d likes of Ribadu, Pat Utomi a few others will matter cos every vote dey get would be one lost for GEJ and IBB would gladly fund their campaigns knowing fully well they stand no chance. Perharps if Ribadu had been in dPdP i would av been a staunch supporter but outside, he doesnt stand a chance. Pat Utomi? Forget him, he cant even win d Delta state governorship (which by d way is sad).who remain? Saraki? These guys r just going 2 reduce GEJ's vote if IBB gets to anoda party just like what Ralph Nader did to Al Gore. So y cant u lot see beyond your noses?

@mikeansy, & Co.
Perhaps if GEJ had been president for a year or two with still nothing to show,
perhaps if we'd had a better or even manageable leader before GEJ became president,
If perhaps in the short while he's been president he has failed to show he can improve d country,
If he didnt represent an attempt by nigeria for the first time since independence to prove we can say YES to change in a form other than that forced on us by perceived power brokers with majority ethnic backing and
Most importantly if the chief alternative did not personify the word RETROGRESSION, Then surely i would have understood your barrage of unwarranted criticisms and also be dishing out mine.
Those are the reason i support GEJ. So can one of you please tell me why Apart from his obviously Nice Gap Teeth, u guys are bent on kissing IBB's behind? Sugar dey there?

"that is an indictment on his earlier decision to place political expediency over national interest by sharing the money"
Are those not your very words? If you reduce an attempt to meet the demands of d most powerful combined force in the absence of the president, coupled with the nation in near chaos to mere 'political expediency' how can you then turn around and say u didnt say his ascension was not in d nations interest? Was sharing d ECA fund not a condition given by d Govs? Mr man pls stop speaking from both sides of your mouth abeg.

@mikeansy, With all due respect, Sometimes and lately mosttimes your arguments lack even the faintest shred of rationality. How can you say GEJ's ascension to the presidency was politically expedient and not in the nations interest! are u suffering from a bad case of 'selective amnesia' or what? What other options were on the table before his ascension and which would you have chosen? Then you say he didnt have to appease governors that saw him as the only stumbling block between them and their funds, governors that didnt mind who ascended the presidency as long as they got what they wanted? Lets not pretend Nigeria is anything but what it is, reachini an agreement was expedient Yes, but it was in the nations interest, so the blame should go 2 d shameless governors that put GEJ In a position 2 choose b/w two devils.
Your assertion that GEJ Is responsible becos he was the vp is laughable. OBJ showed exactly how little those powers of the vp are with Atiku didnt he? Finally about taking responsibility, i can think of no better way to acknowledge the failure of something than to proffer an alternative, and thats what he's done with the SWF. Would you have him singing to the heavens and risk making powerful enemies? Put on your thinking cap and give the man some credit.
Business › Re: Fitch Revises Nigeria's Credit Outlook To Negative by wesley80(m): 3:21pm On Oct 23, 2010
Who's to be held responsible for the depletion? Certainly not GEJ. The excess crude account didnt fall from $20b to $500m under 7months but as the article stated, the gradual depletion began in 2007. Apart from having one's reasoning ability seriously deformed and incapacitated by hatred, there is no reason anyone would put the blame squarely on the doorstep of GEJ.
Where were you when governors were threatening hell and brimstone if they were not given their share of the excess crude account? Where were u when this same account became the single deciding factor to get state governors to tow the path of reason? Did the article not say there's no legal basis for sharing the fund? Was that GEJ's making? Why do u think he has chosen the creation of a sovereign wealth fund which most of you foulmouthed critics have criticized him for as one of his campaign promises if he does not recognize the problem? And you lot can feel comfortable criticizing to hand the advantage to someone whose economic policies condemned an entire generation to mental and economic bondage? Shame on you!

Now that we've identified both ethnic Arabs and Jews in our midst, i bet all thats left is a Jerusalem to fight over. lol
Seriously though, these presumed roots no matter how true are National drawbacks with no real benefit to Nigeria and Nigerians but to create more division than we are already saddled with. Perhaps their only benefit would be making our history books heavier which i'm not even sure is good to everyone. The lesser we know, the better. Of course historians would have me hanged for saying that but come on, The challenge is the future not the past!

By SaharaReporters, New York

As the trial of the suspected MEND leader, Henry Okah, unravels in South Africa and that of his older brother, Charles, begins in Abuja, the broader Okah family is internally battling another of the brothers who is alleged to be the one who sold out his siblings.

Known as "Dr. Bowie," the 41-year old’s original name is Sonny Bowie Okah, and he is the younger brother of Henry. Members of the family believe he has been providing the Nigerian government with unusual help in tracking down two of his brothers - Henry and Charles!

Sunny is number six in line in the Okah family of 9 children. For some reason, he has been at loggerheads with Charles and Henry dating back to the 1990s when Henry is alleged to have actively engaged in serious arms business.

Family sources told Saharareporters that Sunny had business disagreements with Charles which prompted Henry’s intervention. From that time, the relationship went sour and family ties were irretrievably broken.

The sources told Saharareporters that Sonny's troubles started after he was kicked out of the Nigerian Defence Academy. He returned to Lagos to live with his father and later his elder brother, Charles, in the Apapa area of Lagos.

Sonny was accused of trying to kill his late father, Commander Okah, prompting his referral to a psychiatric hospital in Yaba area of Lagos. Somehow, he managed to escape from the mental home and joined the Olumba Olumba religious sect in Lagos. His more tolerant brother, Charles, took Sonny in, but sources said that while living with his benefactor, he also attempted to kill him.

When things got out of hand, Sonny returned to Kaduna, a terrain with which he was familiar as a former student of both the Nigerian Military School in Zaria, and the Nigerian Defence Academy.

In Kaduna, our sources said, he claimed to be a 'medical doctor' to the extent that he even “operated” on renal patients at the teaching hospital in Kaduna. People who worked at the Teaching Hospital in Kaduna remember him as “Dr. Bowie,” who was also an elder in Kaduna Praise Chapel for All Nations, a popular Pentecostal church. Bowie was housed in the official doctors’ quarters by the Kaduna State Teaching Hospital, a fact which suggests he may have forged certificates presenting him as a certified doctor. Soon, however, a major ethno-religious crisis forced him to return to Lagos around 1997.

While in Kaduna, Sonny married Ndidi Bowie, a barrister who runs a charity organization and has the traditional title of "Amuludun of Agbara", a neighborhood where Henry lived for a long time before he moved to South Africa. No member of the Okah family is said to have attended their wedding.

Upon his return to Lagos, Sonny went into the production of musical steel drums. Our sources said that his steel drum business was a cover up for a sinister arms business, which involved buying arms from top Nigerian army officials. In 2007, thousands of AK-47 rifles, General Purpose Machine guns (GPMGs) and ammunition were reported missing from the Nigerian Army Central Ordinance Depot in Kaduna, and it turned out that some top military officers were selling arms to Niger Delta militants. Sonny was promptly arrested for acting as an accessory to the crime of weapon dealing with some army majors and a colonel.

Detained for two months by the SSS, Sonny is said to have felt very bitter that his brothers did not come to his aide. To save his skin, he bargained with the army court-marshal prosecutors to serve as the star witness in the trial of top military officers involved in the illegal arms trade.

Shortly after Sonny’s release, Henry was arrested in Angola, an event for which family members blamed Sonny, who was said to have leaked Henry's itinerary to Nigerian intelligence. Sonny's job as a spy meant that he was going to become a state witness against his brother at his secret trial before a federal high court in Jos in addition to Asari Dokubo, an unrepentant enemy of Henry. Asari, however, opted out of the trial as Ijaw leaders intervened to stop him.

Meanwhile while Henry Okah was languishing in detention, Sonny reportedly leased out his Agbara Estate property, believing Henry would not make it out of detention. Sonny later approached Charles claiming he could get Henry out of detention using his connections with the SSS. Charles made N9 million available to him but he never was able to save Henry. Family sources insist that Sonny's most interesting and rewarding job has been to serve as a snitch on his two brothers on behalf of the Nigerian government.

When Henry was released, Sonny stayed at Charles "bodysurfers" home in Agbara Estate, and went into a balloon and decorating business with his wife.

In the current crisis, Sonny is credited with leading state security officials to obtain crucial intelligence on his two brothers. Charles, the trial of whom began this morning, is currently detained at the underground cells of the SSS in Abuja, while Henry is undergoing a grueling trial and application for bail over allegations that he and Charles were directly involved in the Independence Day twin bombing that killed scores of people in Abuja on October 1, 2010.

Charles son, 23-year old Gbolibe, who recently returned from South Africa where he had sought medical treatment following a car accident, as well as a domestic staff of his father’s and Olushola Ladoja, the son of former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Ladoja, were this morning arraigned along with Charles.

Sonny, unlike his brothers, seems to be doing quite well. Having dispensed with Okah as his last name, family sources revealed that he is about to be nominated into the "National Security Advisory Board" by the Jonathan government.

Meanwhile, the judge handling the case of Charles and three others at an Abuja Magistrate court adjourned till November 24 for a proper plea to be taken from them. While Okah family members and lawyers were barred from today's arraignment, the SSS brought the four accused to the court in handcuffs and purported to charge them. Curiously, apart from Charles and his relatives, the SSS did not bring any of the four other persons it claimed to have arrested in connection with the bombings to court.

Also of interest today is that as the arraignment of Charles was in progress, it was rumored that the SSS had arrested Sonny Okah. Saharareporters was unable to obtain any official confirmation of his arrest. But skeptical members of the family told us they believed Sonny's was "arrest" was an elaborate scam to fool the Nigerian public

Chima Orlu-Igbo name

Jesse Ebere-Igbo name

Deviation by FG from the real issue which is to prove that the bombing was not carried out by MEND.

Henry Okah is being tried as MEND leader while Ben and Chima are MEND members.

All MEND members need to be tried as well.Selective justice is no justice. They should also provide real evidence for the trial and not phone calls and text messages.

This is still only a bail hearing and not a trial so all they have to do is just establish a connection between okah and the bombers ie just prove the guy is dangerous enough to be kept behind bars. Even if okah eventually makes bail, he is still far from being a free man.
Cut the guys some slack, if the CIA were that good would there have been any need for Guantanamo?

Rudi Krause, counsel to Henry Okah, has told presiding judge, Hein Louw, that he is “not bound to ensure the interests of a community thousands of kilometres away from this court.”

Mr Krause was responding to points raised by prosecution lawyer, Shaun Abrahams, on Monday when he cross-examined Mr Okah. “You have no onus to save face in the international community by refusing the applicant bail," Mr Krause said, urging the judge not to give in to “statements of ideology”, which he attributed to the prosecution.

Mr Krause said Mr Okah should be granted bail because the South African state’s case is “a case subject to substantial and serious doubt.” He also said Mr Okah is entitled to medical treatment “which he will not receive in prison.”

According to Mr Krause, based on “the conflicting statements” issued by the Nigerian government, “little or no reliance can be placed on any evidence emanating from that part of the world.” He cited the contents of an affidavit which the prosecution stated it received from the Nigerian government, saying the document was “sweeping, vague, to the extent that it is actually embarrassing, ”

Speaking on Mr. Okah's prior arrest in Angola, Mr. Krause said: “The applicant (Mr. Okah) did not abscond or evade justice in Nigeria. The Nigerian government has previously not blinked an eye in conjuring up and fabricating evidence against the applicant as they are doing now.”

Prosecution to reopen case

Subsequently, Mr. Abrahams asked the court for permission to reopen its case against Mr. Okah. He said this was to enable him “communicate with the Nigerian authorities to be sure I won't jeopardise their investigations.”

Mr. Abrahams had been told by Judge Louw that he needs “something more than mere speculation,” as closing arguments were being heard in court today. Judge Louw said while he had sympathy for the State “not wanting to disclose prematurely its investigations, there is a vagueness to his (Mr. Abrahams’) suggestion as to the accused's participation in these offences.”

He thereafter granted prosecution the opportunity to “reopen the case”, but warned that he would withdraw the privilege if the State is unable to present more evidence."
The case has been adjourned until tomorrow.

As an unbiased onlooker i believe ikenga has won the debate hands down and simply 'agreeing to disagree' is simply choosing not to accept someone else' obviously superior sense of reason. Heterogenity is no reason for underdevelopment therefore it is not a valid excuse to partition Nigeria.
And to add from an economic point of view, the benefits of a united Nigeria outweigh those of a partitioned nation.
