It’s only little of their products that can be exported! Enough of the poison we’ve been consuming! We too have lands and it must thrive! khalling2008: this is exactly what happened to our members at the bodija market, they killed them in maduguri during reigning of boko haram in 2009, now nobody wants to go to north to buy market, that's reason why hausas take over the business from westerners, |

Politics › Re: Food Blockade: The Impending Food Crises In The South Is Unnecessary by wetdspace(m): 3:03pm On Mar 02, 2021 |
Point of correction, if you don’t know history, stop jumping on matters you knew little about. Around 2009 or 2010 when the matter of Boko Haram started coming up, during those time, Yoruba market men and women were the ones that goes up the North to buy all these foodstuffs and market it here themselves for several decades. Though some Hausa merchants too were part of the biz of traveling to buy. But before Boko Haram went crazy, some Yoruba market men and women who went to buy goods up North were massacred. Several of them at different times. When the killing got so much, they abandoned the buying and the Hausa people took over the process completely whereby they are now the one to control and determine the price. After they took over, the killings on the road stopped before Boko Haram results to different forms of bombing. How can a witch cry yesterday and the child dies today? Can you see such act? That was how these northern people became dominant in price controlling and they even brought down their own people to sell as retailers because they don’t trust the Yoruba sellers in accounting to them. So it’s a matter of my market, my money, my land and gradually they took over several big markets at the expense of Yoruba Seller’s space. They bought wheelbarrow for even the ones they brought so that those one can move about in streets and that makes a common Yoruba sellers to sell at his nose. Can you fucking justify those killings that made Yoruba marketers to resist from buying from the north by themselves? As at now, they even use soldiers to harass other sellers at mile 12 market , just because your tribe are special? I wish the Yoruba people can unite and even turn away any truck released to come sell here. E ti ya were!!!!! on Kingdemu: The food marketers exporting foods to the south have legitimate concerns to embark on a strike. However, it's crazy to prolong it for long which is likely to create a humanitarian catastrophe. I have lost a friend who was a driver, transporting onions during the recent massacre of Hausa people in Ibadan, and I support every step taken by the union to protect their members from jungle justice mostly perpetrated by anarchists who have nothing to lose even if the country is plunged into a serious crisis. The government must step in, allay their fears and punish the hoodlums who often attack Hausa food markets whenever anti-Hausa sentiments reach an apogee.
Almost 98% of the meat consumed in the south come from Arewa, and the northerners account for more than 70% net exporters of onions, maize, rice millets and other critical cereal crops that are vital for food industries to survive. Attacking the drivers for transporting foods to the south , killing cattle rearers and rustle their cows are the issues that need to be resolved. This standoff is a stark reminders that the North despite its depleting agricultural outputs still has leverages and those who think the region is a parasite needs to think twice.
I think the South is failing to understand the issue for what it is.
The strike by the amalgamated food union is to safeguard members against what happened in Oyo state and parts of the south east.
What I expect is for the market union down south to organise themselves and reassure their brothers up north that they will be protected.
The fact that nobody is calling for a reprisal means that the North is open for an amicable resolution of the matter, at the end of the day we all need one another.
The idea of branding every Northerner as a terrorist or bandit won't do any good in this inatance. After all before the activities of some unscrupulous fulani criminals we have had kidnappings, armed robbery, cultism etc in the south.
Sadly, they have allowed politicians to cash in on the issue at hand. |
