Wow! I’ll say you read part of my mind. I want to learn something that’ll relate to something you’ve discussed here... I just want to learn To have a skill I’m proud of before the biz launch. What wot you advice? God bless you for this response. Thanks! Please give a platform where I can directly contact you . Thanks PeaceJoyLove: You simple want to do money transfer. The most important is security first, then you can tweak it around your business. Piggyvest (formerly piggybank) you mentioned is all about money transfer too via Mastercard and Visacard linked to their clients accounts. Also, there is POS, USSD (via phone) and other various kinds of money transfer linked to customers' account. You sound like you will use more of USSD. The most important is to use a secured means. The Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) which is an information security standard for organizations that handle branded credit cards from the major card schemes. The PCI Standard is mandated by the card brands but administered by the Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council. The standard was created to increase controls around cardholder data to reduce credit card fraud. Not sure if this is what you really need, but there are other kinds also. Two companies you can approach in Nigeria which come to my mind are - Flutterwave and Paystack. PiggyVest uses Paystack. You may want to consult these two companies. You may discuss with them more and they will give you more ideas on how you should go about your business. But first, consult a cyber security specialist very well. This is what you need to get around first cos it has to do with money. Your friend probably didnt go with you cos you do not know about the basis of security, and you could not explain well. Another person came on board and was able to convince him to do the project you talked about (not sure if it's still security). Or he hijacked it because he was not gifted in the area...meaning that he wasn't the one you supposed to talk to in the first place. You just gave him an idea he couldn't solve. So, he had to get out to look for solution. Too bad of him, but really, you were a liability. You opened too early without first making research. And the way you are going about dropping messages in many threads, you will fall into the trap again and again sir. Anyway, get around securities applied to your business first. When you know it and the protocols to use you then look for a co-founder well grounded in the area. You must not sound like an illiterate when discussing with the person. You must know what you want, and you pick who is the best in the area. Not like just asking every jack and jerry who can code to be your partner or to start explaining to you...by the time you starting talking, you would have dropped all your ideas and the person or people will hijack them again.
Goodluck sir! |

Hello Gurus Please I need a guide. I just made decisions to go for programming and probably full stack that would enable me get a remote job. I’m an idealistic person so I would love something that would be able to make me develop my ideas. E.g in 2014, I wrote down in my jotter the need to create a digital money saving app. I told a friend in 2015 but he’s afraid he didn’t wanna get involved with anything money. I think that same year, piggybank was created. In 2016, I still shared this to a friend who went behind me and Partner with a tech bro to create their own company here in Lagos. I won’t disclose his name cos it’s a well known coy. So please my bosses, I need help, I want to learn things that would make it easy to transfer money from a phone to another phone through our bank account of course, even though I might eventually end up partnering with another developer , I want to learn these things too at least be very good at something. I need help cos I want to focus on this. Please help me out, advice, links, leads, critics is needed. I just want to start something very meaningful with myself. Thank you. PS. If you see this on another topic, it’s me I’m just looking for where to get genuine answers. Thanks. tensazangetsu: They do o. Just aim countries that have very easy route to getting visa sponsorship. I can't be aiming to get a visa sponsorship Job in the USA. It's a waste of time but I can get a visa sponsorship Job to Germany I can get to Austria. Both countries even have job seeker visas where you can go there to seek work. I can get to Mexico, Brazil, Uruguay, Chile, Japan, south Korea, south Africa et Al. There's a lot of those jobs o. You can check linkedin jobs. Check for Salesforce jobs in Europe. Most of the developer jobs come with visa sponsorship.
Salesforce has like 4 paths to it. The administration path is practically drag and drop. The development path is very different. It involves building full scale applications with the Salesforce languages. Salesforce uses lightning for its frontend a Java like language called apex for backend. A Java/HTML syntax called visual force for its pages and something like jsx called aura for its lighting components. How many developers have even heard of such? That shit is scarce. |

Are you new to the whole concept of coding and you're struggling to pick the right programming language to begin with? Which one of Java or JavaScript, Python or C would suffice? Choosing the perfect language for every newbie programmer is one of the most difficult decision to make due to the numerous options available. There are hundreds of different programming languages with each of them having its personal strengths, weaknesses, complexities and best area of application. In truth, your choice of language will depend heavily on the segment of software development you are keenly interested in. In this article we will look at the various divisions of software development and recommend the best language (/s) suited for each category.
FOR WEB APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT :
This involves the creation of application programs that reside on remote servers and are delivered to the user’s device via the Internet. Examples of web applications include: Online forums like qoura.com, dogforum.com; or Ecommerce websites like amazon.com, Ebay.com; or your popular online blogging platforms like TechCrunch, Moz, Huffington Post etc. For better clarity, we are going to divide Web Applications Development into two parts, namely: 1. Front-end development and 2. Back-end development.
Front-end Web development : Front-end Web development involves the building of the visual elements of a web application that users can see and interact with. In simple terms, a front-end developer is mainly concerned with the appearance of a website like its font size, forms, web page layouts etc. In order to become a well skilled front-end developer, we recommend you learn HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript combination. HTML and CSS are friendly and easy to learn while JavaScript is a popular programming language that is very efficient in every web related applications.
Back-end Web development : Back-end Web development deals with the skeleton (called the “back-end”) of your web applications. It is more concerned with the functionality of the website. Take for instance a web application like LinkedIn or Facebook, the front-end deals with the different pages layouts and designs while the back-end application deals with things like the search query panel in which a user can search for a unique profile out of millions of registered users’ profiles. In order to become a full stack web developer, you need to be well grounded in both the Front-end and Back-end sects of Web development. Our recommended languages for Back-end Web development include: JavaScript, Python, PHP, and Go. JavaScript: How will web developers cope without JavaScript? Well, that’s a question for another day. According to Stack Overflow’s 2020 Developer’s Survey: JavaScript is the most popular programming language among developers for the eighth year running! While JavaScript is mostly used in conjunction with HTML and CSS for front-end development, it can still be used solely to build the back-end part of web applications using popular frameworks like Node.js which is compatible with every Operating System. Figuratively speaking, sticking with JavaScript (via Node.js) means you only need to master one programming language for both front-end and back-end web development.
Python: is a multi-purpose programming language that works brilliantly for Back-end web development via some of its popular web frameworks like Django and Flask. With Django (coded in Python) you can quickly develop a web application way quicker compared to other programming platforms. Django comes with a wide range of in-built packages such as admin panel, content administration, site Maps, SQL injections for data management and many more. Your popular media sharing platform – Instagram - and sites like Spotify and Mozilla were created using Django framework.
PHP: is a recursive acronym for Hypertext Preprocessor. Its popularity among Back-end developers is gradually fading as newer languages outsmart PHP in building better functionalities on web applications. Since it is a scripting language, PHP is somewhat similar to HTML making it is relative easier to learn.
Go (also known as Golang): is a newer language as it was only released in 2009. As a low-level language, Go performs almost the same functionality as C and C++ with a simpler and more readable syntax compare to the other two. The lightness of this language makes it perfect for building complex web applications through frameworks such as Gin, Martini or Revel.
VERDICT : For an absolute beginner with zero prior knowledge on programming, we are going to suggest JavaScript for both Front-end and Back-end Web development. It is always advisable to start your learning from the Front-end part of Web development then you gradually work your way to the more difficult sect (Back-end). As you master your craft, you can easily switch to other programming languages based on the kind of project you’re working on.
FOR GAME DEVELOPMENT :
This involves the creation of games whether in 3D or 2D format, video or motion graphics, or for computer/mobile devices. To be a good game developer you have to possess a strong background in mathematics, sciences or engineering field due to their critical applications in high-level game development. A career in this segment, in most cases requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or other equivalent fields. The best programming languages for game development are: low-level languages like C++ and C# (incorporated with Unity). High-level language like Python (using PyGame) or Java (in building mobile games for Android devices) can also be used for making quick prototypes of your game and building lighter video games but they both have their limitations in game development especially when it comes to the game graphics and memory management.
VERDICT : For beginner game developers, we recommend coding with C# via Unity for its relative ease of learning compared to C++.
FOR MOBILE APPLICATIONS DEVELOPMENT :
The mobile app development sector is a half a trillion dollars industry with room for more growth. If you have settled for a career in building mobile apps for a living then it’s best to follow our guide to picking the perfect beginner’s language for your training. Most of the aforementioned languages for desktop app development are also handy for mobile apps too but our top programming language choices for Mobile Applications Development are: Java, Swift (in conjunction with Objective-C), and Kotlin.
Java: is one of the most popular and used languages in the programming world. It is a flexible and dynamic language that is used in developing Android applications for your mobile phone. As of today, Android has over 70% of the total mobile OS market implying that the future is still very much bright for Java. The best place to start with learning Java is by going through Google’s Android Developer Library which is well-documented and has a comprehensive set of learning materials. Another advantage Java has over other mobile app development languages is its cross-platform app development which means it can also handle Apple’s iOS and Windows apps. Java truly rules the mobile app world!
Swift (in conjunction with Objective-C): Swift is a newer language intended to work with Objective-C to build mobile applications for Apple’s iOS. It’s even quickly becoming an accepted language for general purpose programming. Swift is an open-source language meaning: any app developer using a Linux OS can operate on it to develop iOS applications. In simple terms, let say you have say a Windows Computer but you want to build an app for iPhones. You can install a Linux OS on your PC and start developing iOS mobile applications that would run just perfectly using Swift! This feature has made Swift to be increasingly popular among iOS app developers.
Kotlin: is a programming language introduced by JetBrains, the official designer of the most intelligent Java IDE, named IntelliJ IDEA. Kotlin was designed to work with Java as an open-source language which runs on Java Virtual Machine (JVM). In basic terms, Kotlin is like the simplified version of Java with better readability, more improved syntax and most importantly: it is way easier to learn. If you want to start creating Android apps in a few days time then Kotlin is your best bet. It works perfectly on Android Studio which is the most popular desktop application used for building Android mobile apps.
VERDICT : Java is our go-to language here while you can learn Kotlin along with it as you expand your learning into building actual Android mobile applications. Or you can simply go for Swift if you are only interested in becoming a specialized iOS developer as even Java has its own limitations in iOS app development.
FOR SYSTEMS PROGRAMMING :
Well this is a broad and intricate aspect of software development which is not advisable as the starting point for newbie programmers. System programming involves the development of computer programs that allows the hardwares of a computer to interface with the programmer or the user thereby making the entire computing system to function as a single unit. Such software programs affect the functionality of every other softwares when installed or uninstalled. Thinking of diving into systems programming? Then think big like developing an entirely new operating system (OS) or game engines. In order to be a systems programmer, you have to be well skilled in any low-level language of your choice like C++, Rust or Go.
VERDICT : Personally we recommend Go (also known as Golang) for beginner systems programmers.
For our recommendation on other Software development sectors like Desktop Application Development, AI and Machine, or for those who are still yet to decide on which sector to specialize in you can visit http://www.gorablog.com/best_programming_language_to_learn.html for the full article.

PeaceJoyLove: I am always flabbergasted when I see the "Every man for himself" syndrome in every business area in Nigeria. But guess what? It is not the way forward in tech start ups.
Programmers are trying to position themselves into getting huge pay for developing apps for startups (nothing bad in it, but does our economy allow it?). Lol. Most programmers don't have the business developing instinct, but they want to get huge pay. How can you get huge pay in this Nigerian economy at this time? There are only few "money bags" who will spend money on developing apps for a business the future is unpredictable. It is not like a manufacturing company where you know sales is sure since there are potential customers on ground.
There are many reasons "money bags" will not take the risk of paying you that huge amount to develop app. One is that the future of the startup is not guaranteed. And you know that Nigeria is an emerging market. Industrialization is just beginning to pick up. We are just getting to fix our roads, railways, boats, etc after we abandoned fixing these basic amenities for long. We are in a stage the US is in around early 1900 to 1940s. Oh! Having 24/7 electricity is still a rocket science here, so, we haven't started production which is another area "money bags" will rather invest in for any emerging market. So, there are many areas the "money bags" can put money into instead of paying you that huge money for the app you want to develop. And even after developing it, it is the "beta" version. Oh! You want him to even pay you more and more for every correction made..lol. Be real and get a life. It is not that possible.
Oh! No wonder many programmers are unfulfilled in Nigeria. Eeeeh....Yaaa. Poor you. Keep hoping someone will employ you to develop a app you can hit it big. Eeeehhh.....Yaaa!
I will take you on the journey Here, I will write insights and we will look at the real situation of tech startups in Nigeria. I will xray it out for you so you can see the real situation, and then decide how you can tap into it. My approach is from the business view of the business.
I'll try to update this thread daily. |

But first, a little introduction about me
I have been coding professionally from 2016 and hobbyist since 2013 with top tech firms. And since 2008 as begineer. Learning continues.
I have used a variety of PCs. My first coding box was an Acer Aspire One mini laptop with 1Gb ram and 128hb HDD. Those good old days.
My hunger for processing power started in 2016 and I used a Work allocated HP probook. It's slow because of HDD and 8Gb ram.
I switched to a 2015 Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon in 2017 (World thinnest laptop then) at another workplace. It had i7 vPro and 256 SSD, 16Gb DDR3. With 16 hours battery life of doing heavy stuff, I didn't use to take the charger home after work.
I got a personal Lenovo T450 in 2018 with 16Gb DDR3 and 512GB SSD, 6 hours double battery (internal and external), i5 2.3GHz and it goes up to 2.9GHz. Pretty a little beast as the 4 cores can maintain turbo boost speed for infinity without throttle.
I dropped my work PC by this time and used my T450 for both work and personal stuff ever since. Pretty simple.
Well a few weeks ago , I got tired of always operating at 95% to 100% on processor full power while I am working. Slow builds, etc
What I do for a living. I build cross platform mobile apps (iOS and Android). I also do backend, desktop, and create xbox apps as well. All with dotnet and dotnet core (C#).
The most frustrating part of my life is waiting for up to 7 minutes sometimes for a build job to complete. Building Android package takes forever, etc
I was getting tired day by day and all I was told online is to get a Mac and all my problems will disappear.
I hate macs actually. Not just macs but anything Apple. Hmm. I always choose Windows PC over Macs at my workplaces over the years and I pick one to shortly use only whenever I need to compile an iOS app.
So I decided to do some research and check up the latest in Apple Mac lineup.
Hmm. I also have a few personal iOS apps to build now so, it made sense to get a Mac.
I went to Apple USA site and saw that M1 has only 16gb Ram. Shai. I got a good custom order of 2TB, 16GB Ram M1 Pro for 2200 and I was ready to checkout with only 300 on taxes. Its free shipping to my USA address.
Well, I changed my mind the next day due to the limitations I read about. Plus the 16gb ram thing. I felt it wasn't an upgrade from my lenovo even though it was from DDR3 to a high DDR4.
I decided to go for the Intel versions which were far more expensive. About 3600 for my spec. 32Gb Ram and 2TB SSD with 4Gb radion vega pro.
I did this and researched about the VM choices on Mac. I was ready to pay for parallel until I discovered VM ware has a free personal license for Fusion 12 Pro. So I got the license.
So, Las Las, I didnt buy from Apple. I went to Mac store in shoorite, Ikeja and played with that M1. Hm.. I didn't like it. ARM should be left for mobiles please.
I called my iPhone vendor at computer village and told him I needed a Mac with my spec. The guy previously sold me a brand new iPhone SE 2020 which I used to test an iOS app I built last year. I dropped the phone in my trolly after the project. My Samsung is just good enough.
I waited an hour and I got my brand new fuckup baby. This one no be machine. 32Gb Ram, 1Tb SSD, 15.4" 4Gb Radeon Vega Pro and 8 cores. The base Core i9 speed is 2.3Ghz as well and can go up to 4.8Ghz.
I upgraded to BigSur and downloaded 60Gb heaven on earth. Basically all my Dev tools. XCode and Visual Studio (not code).
Then I created the VM and installed latest Windows 10. I gave Windows 10 8gb Ram and 3 cores out of my 8.
I cloned a few of my current projects. I configured all Non desktop apps to Mac and left Windows VM only to build Xbox apps and WPF.
I was installing Slack, Any Desk, Docker (plus sql server. I started it ), and a ton of other communication tools I use including Skype.
Well, the Mac began to hang Seriously. I shut down the VM and the mac hanged completely.
I had to Google how to force shut down on the touch bar from my phone. It was embarrassing as I was actually speaking (presenting) on a Microsoft Teams meeting when the thing hanged and didn't recover.
I no fit cry and I was regretting buying the tool. I think I should have gotten an 8Gb 256Gb M1 for 600k which is significantly cheaper than half of the cost for my purchase. I could have used a small M1 only for iOS apps and then get a Windows Machine of my spec.
I can bet that Lenovo Xtreme with such spec would never fail me.
I have been using the mac like a little baby ever since the hang. I quickly close anything I do not use.
It's just feels like a piece of pricy crap to me.
Performance : I can't deny that it's significantly faster than my T450. Hmm. But it's about 12 times the cost as well. Lol. The processor has used only up to 23% utilisation when I place a reasonable load and I am building.
IO operations on SSD is extremely fast. Like its extreme.
My build time has reduced from 4-7 minutes to 3 to 20 seconds on average for Android ; a speed I never saw on my T450. For Desktop apps on the vm, I sometimes experience 1 second build. Or Immediately sef. Which was 3-4 minutes on my Windows.
Battery life : 10 hours was advertised for the product. I think those hours are based on endurance and not while on performance mode. It hardly spends 4 hours before 3% is left. Due to my stuff, the two fans are mostly on I can feel the hot air blowing out.
Keyboard : I actually tried avoiding to buy a product with butterfly keyboard. This one has it though. My fingers have adjusted quickly and I can type as fast without looking at the keyboard. Only a few keys left to get accustomed to with my index finger.
Overall I don't like the fact that I can't use so many things at one like I used to do on Windows.
So my advice to me: I won't buy the incoming M1X. My next purchase will definitely be Windows. |
