CultureRe: Why Do We Pay Bride Price In Nigeria? by WhyAmISoQuiet: 3:18pm On Mar 06, 2018
TheSuperNerd:
The real answer: I believe paying bride price is a form of traditional/cultural formality to show that the lady being given away by her family in marriage is now "owned" by the man marrying her. It is also to show courtesy to the family of the lady as a small way of saying, "Take this as a token for all your efforts exerted and for all you invested in your daughter to become the woman she is now"

Note that, this bride price thing goes way back to the days of our fore fathers and uhmmm... Well... Traditional courtesy is the just what this bride price is all about. In some parts of Asia like in India, women pay brideprice for men... Loolll... What will y'all say about that? wink

Anyway shaa, in a final nutshelp on this point, Brideprice is just a traditional way of showing courtesy to the family and appreciating them in a special little way for the efforts they exerted in bringing up a lady ripe for marriage. Note that the amount paid is NEVER the true worth of the woman... It is only a token to symbolise that the lady is indeed worthy and priceless.... And a token of appreciation for all the parents and family did and contributed to making her bloom into the lady shevis now.

The sad reality: To mundane men and men with a warped sense of what marriage actually is....this is what brideprice is (to them)...

Brideprice is a way of buying a woman off her family so that she will have no say in his own house. I bought her dammit! So she should worship at my feet naa.... You think say e easy to pay One or two milla for woman head... Omo pack well ooo... I don buy am so make she behave. I can do whatever I want now

Brideprice is a what some men pay to use in arguments later with his wife to intimidate her into submission. Such a man will say, "Listen up woman! You have no right to tell me that what I did is wrong! You have no right to question how I run this family... I dont even need your advice sef. Have you forgotten how much I paid on your head? So swerve and know your place woman! You are a property! My property! and you have no say here"

Brideprice is also what is paid by these bunch of baby-men for EGO's sake also to be used in arguments again so that it will be said to the woman... For instance..., "Bia!! I dont owe a dime on your head okay! So you will give me sex whenever I want it, whether you are tired or not inugo?"

Lastly, and this is possibly the most cynical.... Some men actually do this and will use it as a way of measuring the woman's worth.
"Listen up Nneka! I paid Three million on your head alone minus expenses incurred for the wedding and all... Three million is what you are worth so biko, don't be running your mouth to me when I have more than 50 million for my akant inugo? I can buy and bring in 20 of pyu onto this house and nothing will happen! So sit down and mind your place woman!"

Conclusion: It is tradition where I come from to pay a bride price for the ladies. But let us try respect and honor the true reason for doing so and neevr use that as the yardstick to judge our wife's worth. I know of some people happily married today who never had to drag the matter of brideprice or even paid sef. Some didn't have to even pay brideprice, yet they are are quite okay in their marriage

Brideprice Or NOT..... Marriage is sacred and it works best when the man treats his woman like the Queen she us to him and when the Woman honors her man as her King. Finito.
You make it look like the man is always at fault when it has been known to be abused by families.
ProgrammingRe: What's The Easy Way To Learn Programming? by WhyAmISoQuiet: 8:42am On Mar 01, 2018
I suggest sticking to a structured program like free code camp, if you have no one to mentor you. That doesn't mean that you should not learn from resources, you will have to read ebooks, blog posts, tutorials and even videos from other sites to gain understanding. Still, stick to a structured program like freecodecamp as it will help you track your progress as you solve the challenges. Just focus on front-end development for now with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap and jQuery and maybe Reactjs (if you want to learn a front end framework). Also join programming groups and communities on social media.
I faced this situation once and I stucked to freecodecamp and I can say it paid off. Also understand that learning programming as a beginner is hard work and it takes time, you don't have to give up.
By the time you have made major progress, begin experimenting with back end technologies. If I'm to recommend a language I'll say JavaScript/nodejs though you can learn raw php to have an idea of how back-end/server programming works, then switch back to JavaScript/nodejs because it's popular now, builds on what you already know therefore saving time, and freecodecamp use it for back end. Build API micro services and two or more full web apps including one with front end framework like React , deploy them. Then you will be a fullstack developer. Also learn how to use tools like git and github, you need this in your career.

Bride price is not mandatory, It is just cultural. Go and check the validity of your certificate and make the necessary corrections, if any. Who tradition and kinsmen help?

Get phone with a good battery, 4000 mah and above. Turn on 4G when you need to . I use mostly 2G and it works fine.
PhonesRe: Anyone Using The Lenovo vibe P1m by WhyAmISoQuiet: 9:41am On Nov 11, 2016
Cool phone. Lasting battery, you can just charge once a day, Excellent display. Has seven 4G bands suitable for most 4g operators in Nigeria. The only issue I experience was the PC drivers, they were not compatible so I had to install new drivers. I can now do USB tethering, access both phone and sdcard storage. Everything works fine to me. If this phone can be this good, makes me wonder what P1 will be like.

Your perspective.
The term computer programmer can refer to a specialist in one area of computer programming or to a generalist who writes code for many kinds of software. ... The term programmer can be used to refer to a software developer , Web developer , mobile applications developer, embedded firmware developer, software engineer , computer scientist, or software analyst

And API's are what? Screwdriver's or code? Seems you haven't heard of bits or voltages. Your whole software, ur own code or someone's api you use is still code, high or low. Funny man.
Funny. Why don't you just code in binary so we know you are a programmer....

Really, "interact" with hardware. Ok, what does your code interact with? Air? Memory managers manage data placement and alignment on computer memory(RAM) for efficiency, just so we are clear.
Now, the code interacts with layers of API which then interacts with the hardware. When you code that desktop app in C# and give it high priority underneath C# talks to the system API which then manipulates the computer resources

Write one, then I'll stand corrected. Memory managers doesnt fall under hardware development.
I didn't say it falls under hardware development, what I said was "interact".

About any software can be in the "form" of a web app, the question is how much of it is made by web technology?

You can ping-pong presentation data, but that's just about it. Calling a webserver to run data on a more efficient software doesn't make the web part indispensable.

Now, when you say aspect of programming that's ambiguous. You sure can't write a memory manager on you browser using the gang of 3(html/css/js).
With a memory manager, you're interacting with hardware so it should be on a server. It's not safe to use a browser for that kind of application but you're wrong again because html, CSS and js can do that with chromium/nodejs

Is the web all you've ever done? That's the question. Yes, you might be getting web jobs and feel comfortable, that is fine for you. But when you get calls from established firms dealing in software, no one is going to ask if you know HTML/PHP. Your logical horizon will b put to the test. And my friend, if you haven't worked on other types of systems, u'll never know that the web sphere is limiting.

Really, library and web frameworks, that's supposed to be a test? Been there, done that, still not broad.

If you feel offended, don't be, just learn.
Apart from hardware development......mention an aspect of programming that can't be in the form of a web app. A server is still a computer.

What "crap" exactly? #6? Did that offend you or someone you are related to?

I mean programmer, software developer, software engineer. if all your work has been just on the web well, don't be offended.
I'm defending other programmers same thing I was thinking until I learnt web. Go write a library or web framework then comeback and repeat what you said. You can't expect only one person to be good at hardware/embedded system development, 3D game development, web development, mobile app development, machine learning, digital signal processing etc Because you play with them doesn't mean you can do it at a professional level. Even those who code for academic reasons are still programmers. Another person will come and say if you haven't built an OS or a search engine don't call yourself programmer. Your CV doesn't define the word

Don't classify yourself a programmer if;
1: All you know is the intricacies of a programming language.

2: You have never ventured into any other area but UI's.

3: You don't understand what a tree data structure is and how it relates to a computer file system.

4: Efficiency sounds like an old movie

5: You hate books.

6: The only apps you've ever made happen to only be web related calling upon an sql database.(no offense here)

My thoughts
Cut the crap pls....they are still programmers. They use their skill to provide solutions unless you're talking about titles such as developer, engineer, architect
