A Case Study of Nigeria Customs... We have been bamboozled with tales of President Buhari seeking only men of integrity and technocrats to appoint in his cabinet and not any tainted character. Unfortunately some section of Nigeria like South-East failed this integrity and technocrats test woefully, hence nobody was appointed from among them, not even the brilliant, smart and dedicated; Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu who contributed the entire ANPP to the merger that born APC. I believe he will be gnashing him teeth in regret now, knowing that other power blocks in that marriage has been duly compensated but him. Forget the story of there are more appointments coming; those are more like "observer" offices/appointments. Also remember, the North will participate in sharing this remaining largesse again as stipulated by the Nigerian constitution. It's laughable that while northerners enjoy their appointments silently, my southern brothers remain awake defending these northern appointments. Back to our topic; Retired Col. Hameed Ali was recently appointed Controller General of Nigerian Customs; an important revenue generating agency to the federation which has enjoyed its fair share of controversy with regard to corruption perception. An undeniable fact is that under Jonathan administration, Nigeria Custom led by Alhaji. Abdullahi Dikko underwent several restructuring and automation of its activities(technology revolution). Which in itself is good and allows for blocking leakages, increasing government's revenue base, and ensuring strong cum sustainable institutions. Yes, we need strong institutions and not strong individuals in modern democratic world. And that's a proactive way of nipping corruption and looting in the bud(Remember, yam & goat analogy of Goodluck Jonathan). No less organization than World Customs Organization celebrated Nigeria Customs under previous administration and they also attracted several accolades from partners in the same line. http://hallmarknews.com/wco-may-expel-nigeria-customs-over-appointment-of-non-professional-as-cg/ There are many sides to this issue of Buhari having trust issues, and Custom officials supposedly failing integrity test. Appointing an outsider has many demerits than merits here viz; 1)Have Buhari considered the injustice therein in denying a worker deserved freedom for career growth by leasing out top positions in any organization? 2)Did Buhari consider the danger of low morale among workers and other disastrous effects of such disincentive? 3)Did Buhari consider how long and the cost in terms of resources and time it will cost the country to train and teach an outsider(in this case; Hameed Ali) the custom job? 4)Isn't Hameed Ali going to be tutored about the job requirements and processes by same officers that supposedly failed Buhari's integrity test? 5)Hameed Ali sure like men of his age isn't ICT compliant in the actual sense of it. How is he going to effect topnotch positive changes and improve on systems he doesn't understand or protocols he isn't familiar with? ...Isn't this a square peg in a round hole? 6)Isn't Buhari by this appointment endangering the successes already recorded under previous administration in Nigeria Customs? 7)If the story that top officers failed integrity test of Buhari is true(though to me, it is a lie); hence his choice of outsider, Will his appointee become an omnipresent to oversee this agency with only corrupt officials and personnels? Won't it be better if Buhari sacked all custom personnels and seek new angelic personnels? Suffice it to say that, we need strong institutions using technological initiatives as evidenced in last administration of Jonathan introducing IPPIS, TSA, etc to block leakages and combat corrupt tendencies efficiently; and not looking for superhuman or strong individuals, who jeopardize the system by their lack of experience in such "strange grounds", ICT knowledge(prerequisite in modern world activities), and worker's welfare cum career progression. An analogue brain no matter how well intentioned cannot decode a digital challenge. No sector is bereft of sincere and intelligent individuals and none is an abode for thieves too. Let's get it right always nationally not sectionally. God bless us all Lalasticlala , Obinoscopy |
Isn't these guys indicting Amechi too by saying Wike was paid money for those contracts in the past and he absconded...What did Amechi when Wike absconded with the money ![]() |
2sex: ![]() ![]() ![]() I love smart people... What's the relationship?... kindly explain them... |
Obiagelli:what time was that eve?...And who are that many plz? |
Obiagelli:Never said that...but by law, he was supposed to be arrested...Movement is restricted on election day...what's lai Mohammed looking for running around to raise false alarm and cause confusion?... Then people get killed, he turns to blame Jonathan ![]() Smh... BTW security agencies have some intelligence report we are not privy to about some nefarious plans of these men... |
Truckpusher:Ya...true but I wonder if the south will summon courage enough to spill blood happily like north if north insists on having their way...Census 2016 will prove it again... |
Obiagelli:Jonathan never interfered in those elections otherwise APC would have lost both Edo and even Osun... Doesn't recent results from Ekiti prove APC not to have spirit of sportsmanship ...Why did they lose even in fayemi's home?...They enjoy hitting up the polity always...Just like buhari, APC accepts it as will of people if they win otherwise it was rigged... |
Obiagelli:Yes...buhari doesn't throw direct insult at him but indirectly does always... and if he can't caution his attack dogs then he's comfortable with the insults...Remember, it is PDP that's calling for stoppage of calling him names... See even Metuh cautioning Shehu and irredeemable lai Mohammed to respond to issues raised in his releases instead attacking his person, person of Jonathan or PDP which has always being their style...Facing messenger instead of message...APC NL has copied same verba tim |
Truckpusher:Yes...south can try maintaining such but not north...Do you think buhari would allow election where card reader would reject him like Jonathan ![]() |
Obiagelli:Not at all...DSS did display what they got from there publicly... NASS isn't an arm of APC but Nigeria... Tambuwal got PDP mandate and handed it over to APC which is part of the things that aided in bringing PDP down... If Jonathan was not tolerant, APC folks committed many treasonable offence for which they would have been picked up and dumped in jail including those calling for mutiny etc...hounding them won't be a big deal... Or when card rejected him, he would have called for immediate cancellation of election or postponement... Do you think buhari would have tolerated same if card reader rejected him ![]() |
Truckpusher:Not possible... Because buhari like Obj like tinubu don't tolerate opposition and will crush any of such... Buhari for the first time since independence has president and INEC boss from same region...Who do you wanna.compete against and win? |
Obiagelli:Unfortunately not everybody lives as real statesmen like Jonathan did...He lived his talk...Not everybody will allow for election?... First time electoral umpire is coming from same place as president since independence is now under buhari...what does it tell you? Like Obj like Buhari like Tinubu...these men don't tolerate opposition and will crush any of such...Ever wondered why the only free and fair election to buhari is the one he won?...Ever wondered how many souls were wasted because buhari wanted to be president?... Ever wondered what these families will be feeling whenever they see him grinning?... Did any opposition party survive talk more of winning election under Obj?...Or you feel Jonathan could not have done same if he was desperate for power like them all? ... Have you ever taken time to analyze the faces and antecedents of leaders of APC state after state? ....Is their anybody in APC today that didn't play major role in bringing Nigeria to her knees from 1970-2015 .... |
Obiagelli:I sometimes wonder what a noble and intelligent lady like you is doing amidst these APC folks?...Is it that you can't read through the deceit or what? ...PDP has some dirty folks too but not as dirty as APC guys who feed on blood, blackmail, lies, and intimidation of opponents.... |
aresa:smh... What is written on the article you're commenting?... Or you hosted simply jumped in to talk without reading the Op Is it 44km for 108b or your 11km for 117b?...What's written on BPE site?....smh |
aresa:Thanks...Good to know you're concerned about my wellbeing more I do for myself... I believe Osun, Oyo etc needs that love more than we do...extend it to them plzzz....BTW its not 30yrs...thanks |
aresa:bolded describes you...Reason why I don't mention or answer any of your mention because you're both a sadist and bigot(tribalist) of worst type.... BTW SE aren't complaining of the toll...Wonder why you cry more than bereaved...Can you love me more than I love myself ...Buhari should Allow the work go on...and toll it...I don't care so far I have value for my money....Value here is good job done on the road....thanks |
Mynd44:Smh...No need arguing back and forth with someone who decided to be mischievous... My last reply you on this issue is; 11km was written in your link...but Op has 44km and going by the towns named which the road/bridge connects and passes through; then the figure is simply correct by my own estimate... Your map showed Asaba vs Onitsha...But Op showed the road runs through to Nkwelle-Ezunaka...a town outside Onitsha including bypassing Nkpor etc Any road covering such mileage is worth 44km....Till you prove that such distance isn't worth 44km then you have no case....thanks |
Mynd44:The project is being constructed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) scheme. A Consortium JB-NSIA, is working on the project on the basis of Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer (DBFOT), at a total cost of N108 billion. The Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP) reviewed the concessionaire’s cost of N138 billion down to N108billion. The project phases will be constructed under Engineering, Procurement and Construction contracts awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW). |
Abagworo:Its shameless ediots like you who pray for its cancellation... onuku I remember all you wrote here denying its existence... Obj played politics with it...which Ike Ekweremmadu openly said and castigated him for... Jonathan never played any politics with it...Since he started it, work has been ongoing nonstop....Not everybody is a rogue and thief like you and Rochas.... |
Mynd44:It justifies price differential taking cognizance of mileage covered(44km) and other factors including %interest over time for companies investing in the project... |
Mynd44:And there's a counter information showing that both price was beat down while mileage increased but you chose to be mischievous... |
asha80:I don't know sha...but based on areas stated here, then it is mostly that 44km... |
Mynd44:Trying to understand why the bolded... Did you notice that even price quoted in your link(117b) is higher than what was stated both in Op article, Reno Omokri press release and BPE site(108b)...but with latter having more mileage... |
Mynd44:In doing such price comparative analysis... kindly remember so many indices come to play including exchange rate...which can't be the same at different times... This exchange rate factor has been noted by Op...because prize won't be same again if they are to renegotiate it...but in all, I believe such disagreement as this won't stop the work if buhari really wanted be sincere here... |
asha80:Yes...I noticed too...but I felt maybe the project cuts through Onitsha/Owerri road to burst out there...thus avoiding congesting Bridge head or Upper Iweka or other such Onitsha traffic for those going to Enugu/Awka or other such places.... Hence Onitsha urban isn't disturbed either by those going to Owerri/Aba/PH or Awka/Enugu/Abakaliki etc |
Mynd44:Why not try BPE site or even this article here...cost is 108b not 117b or 138b or 140b bandied by Oshiomole and co... Anyway, buhari/APC want to cancel the project probably to punish SE for snubbing them hence instigates such controversy as this and simply rely on it to cancel it out... Isn't BPE, Mins of Work etc under buhari?...Why can't he ascertain veracity of this project from them than allowing different figures & doubt about project existentiality flying around?...smh |
Mynd44:Kindly note this... The truth is that work has commenced on the Second Niger Bridge and is progressing. The project, which is divided into three phases, will bypass Onitsha and Asaba to connect the Owerri-Onitsha Expressway at Nkwerre Ezunaka, and then cross Atani to the Asaba-Benin Expressway at Okpanam with a total length of 44 kilometres. With the above...I believe the possibility of the 44km...And the author can't write this knowing fully BPE, Mins of Works, & except Julius Berger are all under buhari now...hence can easily be verified... Those towns mentioned are very long distance part plzzz... |
Nawa ooo... btw APC started this issue of running to foreign lands to insult their country and presidency as those foreigners cheered them on...without thinking if an American will do same to his country or president in Nigeria or elsewhere... Unfortunately, what goes around comes around...Insult to seat of power and our sovereignty can only get worse now because foundation has been laid for it... |
IsraeliAIRFORCE:Bolded is fact...and won't stop anytime soon... Do you know much already looted under superman buhari ...It's a continuum...it can only be minimized using strong institutional framework like Jonathan was doing not any jail threat of buhari .... |
MrMcJay:From your link; "Dr. Okonjo-Iweala, as Nigeria's Finance Minister, worked passionately for our campaign, and our success would have been impossible without her tireless work shepherding support among many of the esteemed Finance Ministers and Governors at the AfDB," Adesina said. Kindly stop hating and alluding invincibility status to buhari...maybe it was buhari diplomatic masterstroke that got Arumma Otteh into world bank VP too ![]() Isn't it same buhari that depends on influence of Obj to lobby for peacemeeting in Angola ![]() |
