Every week, thousands of Nigerians release money for construction projects they do not fully understand. The contractor asks for money. The supplier asks for money. The site foreman asks for money. The owner pays. But very few people can confidently answer one question: "How much should this stage of work actually cost?" This is where many building projects begin to lose money. Not necessarily because anyone is dishonest, but because there is no independent system for measuring, valuing, and monitoring expenditure. Imagine building a duplex and discovering halfway through the project that you have spent almost the entire budget, yet the building is nowhere near completion. Imagine a church project where contributions keep coming in, but nobody can clearly explain how much has been spent versus how much work has been completed. Imagine paying for materials repeatedly because there is no proper record of quantities required and quantities already supplied. These situations happen every day. One of the least discussed truths in construction is that controlling cost is just as important as laying blocks and casting concrete. A building project should have: a realistic budget, a detailed cost plan, measured quantities, periodic valuation of work done, and accountability for every major expenditure. Without these, project owners are often forced to make decisions based on assumptions rather than facts. Before releasing the next payment on your project, ask yourself: Do I know exactly what this money is paying for? I'd like to hear from homeowners, church leaders, developers, and contractors: What was the biggest financial challenge you encountered during construction? I am a Quantity Surveyor involved in cost planning, Bills of Quantities preparation, project valuation, procurement planning, and construction cost control. I welcome professional discussions and project engagements. |
LexFlex10:And so you unveil the shadow you are... |
LexFlex10:There's a very high possibility I have travelled this country more extensively than you have. |
Krucifax:While I appreciate your intelligent write-up about no absolute or exact, proper planning with a genuine cost expert actually puts you in a safer situation. |
LexFlex10:It appears that way, but you see... We are here already and the more we make the best of our presence here the better. We get nowhere by being cry-babies. |
Many people believe the biggest threat to a building project is lack of money. After years of observing construction projects, I have come to a different conclusion. The biggest threat is starting construction without proper cost planning. Recently, I reviewed several building projects at different stages of construction (which I will avoid naming for reasons of confidentiality). Whether it was a residential duplex, church building, school project, or commercial structure, one pattern kept appearing: The owner had a budget. Construction started. Material prices changed. Variations appeared. Cash flow became unstable. The project slowed down or stopped. In some cases, millions of naira had already been spent before the owner realized the original budget was unrealistic. One project spent over 30% more than expected because key cost items were not properly quantified before construction commenced. Another project had enough money to reach roofing stage but not enough to complete finishes because there was no comprehensive cost plan from the beginning. The truth is that many Nigerians spend months designing buildings but spend very little time understanding what those buildings will actually cost. A building should not only be structurally sound; it should also be financially sustainable from foundation to completion. Whether you are planning: A residential house A church project A school development An estate project A commercial building Proper cost planning can save significant amounts of money and reduce project delays. I am interested in hearing from property owners, contractors, builders, architects, and developers: What was the biggest financial surprise you encountered during a construction project? Let's discuss. About the author: I am a Quantity Surveyor involved in construction cost management, project estimation, Bills of Quantities preparation, procurement planning, and project financial control. I am open to professional engagements, project collaborations, consultancy assignments, and construction cost advisory services nationwide. |
Inflation is no longer just an economic term for many Nigerians — it is a daily struggle, slowly choking the financial stability of the middle class. Once the symbol of hope, growth, and a secure future, Nigeria’s middle class is now eroding under the weight of rising prices, stagnant wages, and government mismanagement. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Nigeria’s inflation rate hit 28.9% in December 2024, the highest in nearly two decades. Food inflation alone soared above 33%, with basic staples like rice, garri, and bread becoming almost unaffordable for the average household. For Amaka, a school teacher in Anambra earning ₦70,000 monthly, things were manageable three years ago. “Back then,” she says, “I could save ₦10,000 every month. Now, I borrow before the 20th.” Her rent has increased from ₦180,000 to ₦300,000, her children’s school fees have doubled, and transportation to work now gulps ₦25,000 monthly. What changed? Prices went up, but her salary didn’t. This is the silent tragedy of Nigeria’s middle class. Once able to afford decent housing, education for their children, modest vacations, and occasional luxuries, they are now being pushed closer to poverty. The World Bank estimates that 63% of Nigerians are either poor or vulnerable to poverty, and inflation is a key driver. A civil engineer named Daniel, based in Abuja, explains it this way: “I used to eat out with my wife on Fridays, save ₦50,000 monthly, and pay for DSTV Premium. Now, we’ve cancelled cable, eat at home, and I’ve cut my savings to almost nothing.” Daniel earns ₦250,000 monthly, a respectable sum, but when fuel costs jumped from ₦190 to over ₦700 per litre due to subsidy removal, his transport and energy bills tripled. The middle class is not just shrinking — it's being strangled. The average Nigerian in this group has no social safety net. There’s no affordable mortgage system, no reliable health insurance, and no real investment protection. Those who managed to buy land or build small homes are selling them off to survive. Inflation has affected every sector .Private school fees have increased by 30–50%. The cost of medications, especially imported ones, has doubled in a year. Ride fares and intra-city buses have more than tripled in many cities. Rent in urban areas like Lagos and Abuja has skyrocketed by 40% since 2023. The government has introduced policies like the Central Bank’s monetary tightening and the conditional cash transfer programs, but these often exclude the middle class, who “earn too much to be poor” but “too little to survive.” Unless deliberate policies are enacted to curb inflation, improve wages, and expand middle-income housing and healthcare support, Nigeria risks losing the very class that powers its economy — teachers, nurses, engineers, civil servants, business owners. This is not just an economic crisis. It is a national emergency. A disappearing middle class is the breeding ground for unrest, brain drain, and generational poverty. If nothing changes, the Nigerian dream may die — quietly, painfully, and unnoticed. |
The Rise Of Digital Scammers Masquerading As Job Recruiters In Nigeria In the heart of Nigeria’s growing unemployment crisis, a dangerous wave of deception is sweeping through the digital space — fake job recruiters promising desperate job seekers a chance at gainful employment, only to rob them of their dignity, money, and sometimes, safety.

HacheNoire:I hope to take into consideration the those who will be sympathetic in the government and police. It's not so easy to sit on a plan and expect it to just go smooth. This is Nigeria. The enemy of governance is often the government. |
HacheNoire:The problems with this method is if the secret is leaked and if the government of Auxillary replaces him with someone deadlier which is not impossible as there is definitely a hierarchy structure in place already. |
Fear catch people o. Children dey ask where their mama dey. The fear was how long it would last, but we thank God sha. It's like the government expected this. |
There was gun shots this evening at Iwo Road, Ibadan for about 10 minutes with people running helter-skelter. Police were able to cub the menace after some time but only God knows the extent of what has happened. Could be retaliation for government's decision against the Park Disciplinary set-up under Auxiliary. |
There is this particular plane that makes a terrible sound while approaching the Ibadan Airport. This sound can be heard from ground and it seems no one is looking into it. What I believe is thatthe sound is as a result of letting out the landing gears in preparation for landing. We hear this sound almost everyday but do not want to make assumptions on the particular airline. I may not know much about airplanes, but I believe that sound is due to friction when the landing gears are being let out and the pilot is likely not to know about it as planes are soundproof. In no time, this friction can result in the landing gear not coming out properly or not coming out at all, or the friction lead to a tear in the plane that could lead to disaster. Please, let's get this information out so something can be done about it. Please, the terrible noise seem to be getting louder these days. It's a new year and we must avoid everything that can lead to loss of lives. Thank you. |
Ok. On #ObiDatti matter. Before I decide who to vote for, I need to ask myself certain questions? 1. Does the religion of the candidate matter? NO. I can vote for an herbalist of it means I will be safe to practise my own religion while catering for my family in peace. 2. Does the ethnicity of the candidate matter? NO. I am ready to vote an Ijaw man if he can proof his credentials. 3. Does the age of the candidate matter? YES! Experience and history has thought us that Nigeria is better with a president free of arthritis. 4. So what average range of age can you vote for? Min: 40 - Max: 65. 5. Does past experience matter? YES! Relevant experience. By relevant experience, I mean if the candidate has been president before. If none of the candidates have been president before, then, irrelevant. 6. Does past character traits matter? YES! Once a man is past 40, his characters are set. A leopard can't change it's skin, and a fool at 40 is a fool forever; how much more, a corrupt man at 60 or above. 7. Does educational backgrounds matter? YES! It's a shame for brilliance to be subject to illiteracy, it makes for tyranny. 8. Does appearance and eloquence matter? YES! He is supposed to represent us before nations. 9. Does his exposure matters? YES! I think we need a president who knows something about almost everything and can easily mix up with any category of persons. 10. Does technology matter? YES! For us to be proud of our president, he must be vast with technology and can at least operate his laptop himself. 11. How about past scandals? OF COURSE, he must be free of scandals whether convicted by the law court or not. 12. Which sector best points at who should be president? For me, I believe it's the entertainment industry, because it is outside religious influence. Listening to comedians, song writers, skit makers, sports men and women, who each have great influence with people. 13. Is the election a contest of political parties? NO! Absolutely, No! If we alternate the candidates of the political parties among themselves, the result will be the same. I am voting for people, not political parties. More so, no political party in Nigeria really have a bearing that separates them from others. 14. Does manifestos matter? NO. No one can really tell what will happen until he sits at the seat of power. Only then will he understand what he is in for. But at least he must be someone who can change status quo and not just someone reacting to situations. However, he must have an idea of how he would react to different situations he might meet on assumption of duty. 15. Does governing party continuance help? YES, it does, but only when the party in power is largely loved by the people and the economy of the nation is made great, which is not the case at present. 16. How about his social life, does it matter? YES. I want a president who will attend AYLive to laugh and visit sites of casualties immediately. 17. Does his marital life matter? In a way YES, but unless I am living with the candidates, marital affairs can be pretended. 18. Does his wealth level matter? NO. NO. NO. Riches or average income does not liberate from corruption and nepotism. 19. Does access to him matter? YES. I want a president who is accessible by the people; because, only then would he be responsive and truly responsible. 20. So, based on these, who will you vote for? Well, having considered the above, I believe the best candidate is Peter Obi. And he has my vote.

The Book of Windapo Chapter 2 1. Then the people gathered at the field of Lekhito-Gat, for to merry in remembrance of the dead as foretold, being the wailing for them killed in the 5th year of the reign of Buhari, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. 2. And there gathered with the people were many prophets for to raise a ruler from the people of the south, but the tribe of Yor desireth their kinsman, Yagaban, to be ruler; and the tribe of Haus, men of the north, were contentious on the matter, as they would that Hatik Habuk would go in and out before them. 3. Then comest Hanuk'Olhwa to me and besotted me on the matter, saying: where stands my lord in these, seeing that none can sit a ruler over the people unless thou blowest thy horn in the temple? 4. Then said I; the young and the old are at edge one with another, the rich and the poor wantest not the same, the mighty and the oppressed comest not together. 5. The gathering at the field of Lekhito-Gat is defiled, the men of war desirest company with princes, whilest the people of Nigeria are at the wilderness of Desitin. 6. In a night vision, as I beheld the matter, I saw one come to me. His head with the brightness of the Northern star, in His hands the scroll of Yor, by which the men of the west are taught to war, and at his waist, the girdle of Krypt, the seal of the south, by which wealth moveth. 7. And He took from Buhari that which had been His since before the world was. 8. And He said: All power belongs to Adonai, and is given only as Adonai Elohim pleaseth. |
The Book of Windapo Chapter 1 1. In the days of Buhari, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the word of the Lord came to me; saying, 2. Son of man, tell the people of Nigeria, thou that sayst in thine heart: we will conquer, we will bear rule, we will be like the almighty, it is our turn, in their generations, shall find death in the way of pride and anguish in the way of the sword. 3. Son of man, Behold, have I not sent you to the city of the south, to one born among them that make profit, to anoint him for that which I purpose, to a man whose heart I have made ready to make the waste places cities of righteousness. 4. And lo, though thou mayest have little in this time, yet in due time, the days will be times of joy and celebration, 5. And none shall say anymore, Behold the old bear rule over the young; for I will as in the days of my servant David, give rest to the old, and vision to the young, and men of understanding shall be exalted in high places. ... to be continued. |

this matter of Hate Speech is taking us south. How can we say someone has freedom of speech and still tell him he can't say everything he wants to say. is it now wrong to warn my brother about a friend?... I guess that's Hate Speech against such friend. In my opinion, freedom of speech should be total, however, if anyone feels his/her constitutional right is infringed, that's why we have the law court. this statement of wrongdoing without court trial is the worst of hate speeches. Everyone will eventually be guilty. |
he that knoweth how to do good and doeth it not, to him, it is a sin your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost man was created in the image of God man will give account of his body when smoking caused faster death, it's like committing suicide in slow motion I hope with these few points of mine I been able to convince you and not confuse you that smoking is a sin to the Almighty. |
if you have met Christ Jesus our Lord, rather than you being the sent out, you would have been the one speaking the Word. yes we do not know the whole story but a church is supposed to be a gathering of believers. if you are a believer, you will be on your knees crying and praying and seeking mercy, than trying to take down your pastor and church. you never knew Christ.
