PoliticsUpdated: Ekiti Apc Should Apologize To Ekiti People – Ekiti Youth Group by wnycom(op):
A youth group named Ekiti Youth Advancement Forum {EYAF} has called on the All Progress Congress in Ekiti to apologize to the people of Ekiti for misrepresenting and subjecting them to various false claims since the 2014 gubernatorial election in the state.

In a statement signed by its public relation officer, Miss Oluwatoyin Adeniyi, the group described what is happening in the state as unfortunate, simply because the All Progress Congress in the state refused to accept they failed Ekiti people when given the opportunity, in turn Ekiti people voted them out.

The People of Ekiti have maintained their dignity and uprightness by always voting out any party that did not live up to their expectations. It is disheartening to see a political party misrepresent Ekiti people because they are trying to satisfy their party leaders at the national level. Politics should not be played to blackmail the electorates whose support and votes will still be sought after.

The group said, rather than APC in Ekiti to accept they failed Ekiti people who voted for them in 2007 and 2011 respectively, they are busy using media to pervert people of Ekiti saying they voted for stomach infrastructure. It is unsuitable to choose selfish interests of some leaders in their party over Ekiti people whom they will ask for their votes in coming elections.

The electorates should be the priority of any political party. It will be recalled that Ekiti has only 3 commissioners right now, because of unwillingness of APC lawmakers to work with the governor in the state, which has been hindering the governor to work efficiently in serving Ekiti people that elected him.

EYAF further said, it will be well deserved for Ekiti APC to respect the wish of Ekiti people and allow peace in the state. Ekiti people want a stable and peaceful environment after the tensed election period. Hence, asking for the impeachment of the governor people massively voted for and who have barely stayed in office for 6 months is uncalled for by the APC lawmakers which only have four weeks to complete their tenure, which is causing panic in the state.

The APC lawmakers should embrace the peace dialogue opened by Governor Ayodele Fayose to work towards the development and peace of our dear state.

The selfish interests of some leaders at the opposition party in the state should not be made a priority over Ekiti which belongs to all of us. We will be delighted to see elections well contested in the state and not the type of politics that will drown a party like APC in Ekiti.

The opposition should stop playing politics of the media to satisfy their national leaders or some of their members’ personal interest, the politics should be at the grassroot for people that will vote for them in elections. It is unfortunate that the media will not vote for this party, rather it is the same people they traumatized by saying they voted for stomach infrastructure that will

Ekiti APC have not been brave enough to accept they failed Ekiti people that voted for them in previous elections, which is why they have been coming up with different propagandas from stomach infrastructure, rigging, intimidation and now impeachment moves.

PoliticsNigerian Youths Will Make The Difference In 2015 Elections by wnycom(op): 8:12am On Apr 11, 2015
In our early democracy days, Nigeria has low turnout of young Nigerians voting, this was because our democracy was still young and our youths are not well educated on the importance of voting.

Recently we have seen difference in youth participation in politics and 2015 elections in Nigeria would be different as the youths are now more enlightened on youth participation in politics and voting.

There are more than 48 million Nigerians active internet users as released by National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the youth makes the 80 percent of them. Social media is a major factor that brought about this change and there are also organizations educating the youths on importance voting during elections, almost everywhere in Nigeria you see young people talking about politics, which is a great development among the youths.

As 2015 elections are here; political parties has campaigned about job creation, unemployment and improving the living and social standard of Nigerian youths. I believe young Nigerians are more enlightened about politics and cannot be deceived by politicians making empty promises to them.

I want to urge young Nigerians that are eligible to vote to use their voting power to elect credible leaders. The 2015 election is the opportunity we have to decide our future for the next 4 years. It is important to analytically examine the candidates and the political parties to know the one with genuine programmes that can make the change and the transformation we have all been hoping for.

Nairaland GeneralPressplay Initiative Conclude First Phase Of Youth Empowerment Series by wnycom(op): 8:44pm On Apr 02, 2015
PressPlay Initiative, a Not For Profit organization had organized the grand finale of the 1st phase of its youth empowerment series and outreaches in Abuja having taken its message of orientation, sensitisation, training, networking, mentoring, entrepreneurship and empowerment to the length and breadth of Nigeria.

As at the 18th of March 2015, The PressPlay Initiative , PressPlay for short had covered forty tertiary institutions in Nigeria within a short span of less than two months having made its debut on the 19th of January 2015 at the University of Lagos.

For many of the guests who were mostly students drawn from the entire spectrum of the tertiary institutions in Nigeria , the event was an opportunity to fellow students from outside of their own institutions, hear the message of PressPlay re-inforced by the Founder and Initiator, Mrs Angela Jide Jones and perhaps more importantly an opportunity to interact at very close range with high powered government officials at the Federal level whose programs and platforms form the bedrock of the empowerment programs of PressPlay.

In this very respect, the gathering lived up to its billing and the keynote address which was titled; THE FUTURE MEETS NOW.

The Special Guest of Honour was the President and Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, GCFR ably represented by the Vice President, Arch. Namadi Sambo,GCON. Other dignitaries in attendance were the Hon. ministers of Trade and Industry Dr Olusegun Aganga , Education, Engr Ibrahim Shekarau, Women Affairs, Hajia Zainab Mains.

In the just concluded Phase, PressPlay partnered with the Ministries of Education, Trade and Investment and Agriculture to introduce students to the University Entrepreneurial Development Program (UNEDEP) under the SMEDEN umbrella, the Youth Employment in Agriculture Program (YEAP) under the Ministry of Agriculture and the YouWin Scheme. These programs along with others such as GWIN, SURE-P, and other incentives under SMEDAN provide viable opportunities for young Nigerians to become self sufficient and contribute positively to the economy upon graduation.

This theme found resonance in the remarks of Dr Olusegun Aganga who went further to disclose yet more incentives in the pipeline for the youths of Nigeria. He described them as revolutionary. These innovations he referred to as giant strides and attributable solely to to the efforts of President Good luck Jonathan whom he referred to as the most youth friendly President in Nigerian history.

Mrs Angela Jide Jones in her speech gave an account of the ideals that prompted the founding of PressPlay which she said was to drive drive a series of youth centric programs and ideas to sensitize and galvanize the youths to take their destinies into their own hands by engaging the programs & platforms of this government to create wealth for themselves & thereby grow the economy through vibrant SMEs.

In so doing, they can avoid the disappointments and disillusionments associated with chasing the proverbial Golden Fleece in the employment market.

Other highlights of the day were the inauguration of the PressPlay Ambassadors jointly performed by Dr Olusegun Aganga and Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau. They are a committed body of overseers who as liaison officers will coordinate the affairs of PressPlay in each designated zone.

The day was not without some musical and artistic performances by the Nigerian entertainment industry A listers.

Ace comedian Akpororo led the pack. Others were Oritse Femi, Harry Song and K.C who literally brought the roof down. There was no doubt the students were delighted.

A pleasant surprise in this segment was a performance by the leading musical act from Northern Nigeria known as Sani Danger, he lived up to his billing.

The event ended on a high note with visibly delighted students chatting animatedly andexpressing their gratitude at being opportuned to be part of such an epochal event.

When the curtain was drawn, one message was clear, PressPlay is here to stay!

BusinessMsmes To Spend Less Income On Electricity As Fg Commission Power Plants by wnycom(op): 6:38pm On Apr 02, 2015
The federal government has said that it expects to see Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country spend less of their income on electricity as it begins to commission for operation power plants constructed under the National Integrated Power Projects (NIPPs).

It said that with the NIPPs plants gradually coming on stream, MSMEs in the country should expect to reduce their expenditure on power by half.

President Goodluck Jonathan, who stated this when he inaugurated the first phase of the 1074 megawatts (MW) combined cycle Alaoji power plant which was built under the NIPP framework, noted that the focus of his government was on the growth of MSMEs, hence, the need to provide them with the necessary economic enablers.

“Power is key to development and without power micro, small and medium enterprises cannot do well and that is the focus of this administration.
If small businesses will generate their own power, then their returns will be minimal and their turnover will be too low, that is why we are totally committed to providing them power and promise that the second phase will be completed.
We will work together to transform this country, we will work together to move this country forward,” Jonathan said.

The president also noted that it was necessary for the country to continue to welcome more investments in the power sector for more power to be available to homes and businesses, adding that but for his intervention in 2007, the Alaoji power plant could have been abandoned when a report falsely indicted it.

He said: “Inaugurating this 504MW today is a moment I will always remember because as mentioned by the minister of power, while as a vice president, there was a report about this project and the government was to abandon the project because the information that got to us was disturbing but I insisted on inspecting this physically because if government has put in so much money in the project, how do we just abandon it and so I came here and observed that the report was different and we had to continue with the project.”

The first phase of the Alaoji power plant is a 504MW gas fired plant, comprising of four gas turbines units of 126.1MW capacity each and located adjacent to the existing Alaoji 330kV transmission station owned by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

Located at Umuobasiukwu, Alaiyi of Abia State, the 504MW now brings to the total power generation contribution of the NIPPs to 2188MW so far. The government had recently commissioned the Olorunsogo phase 2, Omotosho and Geregu NIPP plants.

Also speaking, the Managing Director of NDPHC, James Olotu stated that construction work on the outstanding 570MW steam turbines is continuing and when completed, will bring the entire capacity of the Alaoji power plant to 1,074MW, the largest among the 10 NIPP power stations.

Olotu also explained that power from the plant will be wheeled out via Alaoji-Owerri-Onitsha transmission loop and the ongoing Alaoji-Ikot Ekpene 330kV double circuit lines to the rest of the country’s grid system, while gas supply to the plant is currently from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) and Accugas.

Additional gas supplies are also expected from Total soon. At full capacity, the Alaoji plant is designed to consume approximately 230 million standard cubic feet (mscuf) of gas per day for power generation.

CareerFg Start Shortlisting Of Youths For Entrepreneurship Training by wnycom(op): 2:22pm On Apr 02, 2015
The Federal Government has commenced screening of Nigerian youths for entrepreneurship training with the launch at the weekend of the Youths Entrepreneurship Strategy in Oil and Gas Industry.

Besides, part of the #220 billion set aside for Micro Small Medium Enterprises (MSME) through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) would be utilized to fund the Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy.

It will be recalled that the Chattered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Anabel Leadership Academy to mobilize 150,000 youths annually for the institute’s Professional Diploma in Securities and Investment.

Okoye had earlier stated that the beneficiaries of the institute’s training would be integrated into the Youths Entrepreneurship Strategy. Will

Addressing the youths at the launch organized by Anabel Leadership Academy in Abuja at the weekend, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr. Olusegun Aganga said the Federal Government was fully determined to empower the youths as the power of the youth in the economic development cannot be underrated

Aganga explained that Nigerian youths form a very substantial segment of the population; hence they must be empowered in order to stem the tide of unemployment, poverty, hunger and squalor. He noted that the federal government had created a window of opportunities through legislation and the youths should take advantage of these opportunities.

“Apart from empowerment through entrepreneurship training and certification, you must take advantage of the power reform and industrialization. These are windows of opportunities.

Politics2015 Elections: Nigerian Youths Will Decide The Next President by wnycom(op): 10:02pm On Mar 28, 2015
In our early democracy days, Nigeria has low turnout of young Nigerians voting, this was because our democracy was still young and our youths are not well educated on the importance of voting.

Recently we have started seeing difference in youth participation in politics and 2015 elections in Nigeria will be different as the youths are now well enlightened of their voting power.

As 2015 election draw near, political parties have tried to convince the youths about their party manifestos to reduce unemployment and improving the living and social standard of Nigerian youths. I believe young Nigerians are now more enlightened and educated about politics and we cannot be deceived by politicians making empty promises.

In 2012 U.S election won by President Obama, he won because he enjoyed 60 percent vote of the youth.

I want to urge young Nigerians that are eligible to vote to use their voting power to elect credible leaders in this coming election. The 2015 election is the opportunity we have to decide our future for the next 4 years. It is important to critically examine the candidates and the political parties to know which one has the youth at heart and is ready to make the change and the transformation we have all been hoping for.

BusinessElectricity Key To Smes’ Development – President Jonathan by wnycom(op): 6:05pm On Mar 26, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday commissioned the phase 1 segment of the 1074MW Alaoji combined cycle power station in Abia State, with a firm promise to transform Nigeria and move the country forward.

Government is optimistic that the plant would restore the East as an industrial hub in the country. “Power is key to development. Without power, small and medium enterprises cannot do well. That is the focus of this administration,” he said.

He stressed how the Development Bank being established by government would enhance businesses in the country.

His words: “Only yesterday, through the Finance Ministry, we were talking about setting up the Development Bank. The idea is to have a bank that would support businesses. For small businesses to survive, they need power. If they generate their own power, their return would be minimal and their turn over would be too low.

That is why we are totally committed and we promise you that the second phase of this project would be completed.

He spoke on the background to the project: “For me, it is a moment that one will always remember. As Vice President, I had reports about this project from the National Assembly. Government was to just abandon the project because the information we got was quite disturbing. I decided to go and physically inspect it instead of government just abandoning it. I came here and saw something different from the report we got and decided to continue with the project.”

He promised the emergence of a new Nigeria, noting: “We will work together to transform this country. We will work together to move this country forward.”

The phase, which is of 504MW capacity, is a simple cycle gas turbine power plant, and is the fourth of the ten power plants being constructed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) under the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP).

The second phase that would bring the total to 1074MW is expected to be completed in no distant time.

Power generated from the plant is to be wheeled via Alaoji-Owerri-Onitsha and the on-going Alaoji-Ikot Ekpene 330kv double circuit lines to the rest of the national grid.

Gas is being delivered from Accugas Uquo Field and Shell through the Nigeria Gas Company’s Eastern pipeline network.

Managing Director of NDPHC, James Olotu, noted that all the four gas turbine units and the balance of plant equipment necessary for the simple cycle gas turbine phase were now completed in full with a total capacity of 504MW.

He said: “Construction work on the combined cycle phase is continuing and by the time it is completed it will bring the entire Alaoji Combined Cycle Power station capacity to 1,074MW, the largest among the ten NIPP power stations.”

He refuted allegations that Olorunsogo plant, which was commissioned by the President recently had previously being commissioned by a past administration.

Olotu said: “Just three days after Olorunsogo was commissioned, it came in the newspapers that the power plant that Mr. President commissioned was actually a lie, that it was not a power plant, that it was commissioned years earlier. While we acknowledge the fact that all Presidents do their work, we will continue to add value to Nigeria.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan did not commission what had been commissioned before. He commissioned a brand new 750MW combined circle power plant, out there at Olorunsogo. No doubt about that.”

Minister of Power, Prof Chinedu Nebo, said sixwere ready for commissioning.
Nebo ingathe nation’s installed capacity at 5500 MWS, while stressing that about 300 projects embarked upon by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) were now ready for commissioning.

“It is on record that this is the very fourth plant that the President is commissioning within a very short time. This is an unbroken record and a record that cannot be broken.

“We also know that there are six more waiting for you to commission. We know that moving at the pace that you are, moving, before the end of this year, you would have commissioned 6 other power plants. We congratulate you.

“In the South East, we have the Alaoji Power Plant. It is going to ginger up industrial revolution, manufacturing, small and medium enterprises, and all of them to strive. Jobs would be created. Wealth would be created. Overall well being would be guaranteed.

Education would strive, because development follows electricity. Havinginherited 2800-3000MW, today Nigeria has the combined ability, not just installed capacity of 5500MW of electricity.

“Nigeria is diversifying. Coal is coming on stream. More hydro power plants are coming on board. This is no longer a dream. As I speak, 300 projects completed by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) are ready for commissioning.

Nairaland GeneralProvost Advocates For Technical Education As Solution For Graduate Unemployment by wnycom(op): 4:30pm On Mar 25, 2015
The Provost, Federal College of Education (Special), Oyo, Dr. Emmanuel Adeniyi, has advocated that more attention be placed on technical education as a remedy for graduate unemployment in the country.

Speaking ahead of the institution’s 16th convocation ceremony, Adeniyi lamented the growing rate of unemployment plaguing Nigerian graduates while also taking a swipe at the emphasis on non-technical education by Nigeria’s education policy.

A total of 12,753 regular and part-time students will graduate from the institution during a ceremony that will take place on Tuesday.

The figure includes 79 post-graduate students and 51 students of Advanced Certificate in Education.

“Unemployment is a global phenomenon and it is a worldwide issue affecting countries of the world like Brazil, Greece, Britain, France and Germany. Unfortunately, Nigeria is yet to design a sustainable programme that can end the problem.

“We must bring back and re-invigorate the technical education system if we must find solutions to graduate unemployment in the country,” he said.

While pointing out that funding could hinder the gains of mass production of technical education graduates, the provost called on government to re-design the funding system for youth, who acquire government-supported vocational training.

He also advised that tertiary schools should be attached to existing industries that would provide practising ground for the students while in school.

The provost added, “Every student must learn a vocational skill because this is the only way to make graduates to be self-employed, reliant and sufficient after leaving the school. We have heard of problems relating to funding but government can assist these young graduates with loans without attaching stringent collateral to them. Each school should also be linked to an industry that will need the services of the graduates.

“Here, they will receive the on-the-field training that will improve their employment chances and offer them the rare opportunity to be self-employed. We must bring back technical colleges and make the technical department of every institution very strong so that we can move the country forward.”

PoliticsPdp Urges Ekiti Youths To Vote Pdp At All Levels To Enhance Grassroots Devpt by wnycom(op): 5:16pm On Mar 24, 2015
The youth wing of the People’s Democratic Party in Ekiti has urged young people in the state to vote for all candidates of the party in the upcoming elections as this will enable them to easily access the transformation agendas of President Goodluck Jonathans' administration at the grassroots most especially the youth development programmes.

In the statement signed by Mr Babatunde Oyedele, a National youth stakeholder in the party, the group said; “the creation of Federal University of Oye-Ekiti is a remarkable transformation agenda in Education to make Ekiti State have their own Federal university while giving Ekiti youths access to qualities education”.

President Jonathan has shown Nigerian youths represent the future, building rocks and are tourch-bearers and they will be used to build the future of Nigeria, which is why he has made youths the priority of his administration. This has been shown in youth empowerment programmes, job creation, employment, education, agriculture, communication and technology. The Graduate Internship Scheme (GIS) is remarkable transformation agenda by President Jonathan administration to prepared unemployed graduates for employment.

Micro, small and medium enterprises are the engine of economic growth, back-bone and for promoting equitable development of a strong economy, which is why this administration has implemented various empowerment programmes for the youths. The focus of this government on youth empowerment is a distinct opportunity offer to Nigerian youths to create wealth for themselves and contribute to the economy of the country. We strongly advise Ekiti youths to take advantage of this empowerment programmes to help secured our future.

It’s unfortunate the immediate past government of the state All Progressive Congress (APC) could politicize and deny most of these programmes from Ekiti youths.

Adding to the employment and empowerment programmes of Governor Ayo Fayose for Ekiti youths and the commitment of the Governor to increase the state employment slot of youths into Federal civil services, State civil service and private sector, Ekiti youths have the best opportunity of getting their ideal jobs and to be empowered to the best global practice.

The vote for President Jonathan of People’s Democratic Party, will be the smartest choice that will make Ekiti youths easily access transformation agenda in the grassroots while voting for the party’s Senators, Federal House of Representatives and state of house of assembly candidates in their respective constituencies to create conducive environment for Governor Fayose to amplify transformation initiatives to the grassroots.

The group advised, “If you have not been well informed with the transformation agendas, kindly look for a PDP ward in your area to guide you. As a young Nigerian, unemployed, employed or student, the best opportunity to take Nigeria to the next level and secured our future is voting for people’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming elections”.

CareerNigeria Needs 20,000 Welders To Meet Up With 2020 Goals by wnycom(op): 6:52pm On Mar 21, 2015
Executive Secretary of Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF), Femi Ajayi has disclosed that for the country to be among the 20 most advanced countries in the world come 2020, it needs about 20,000 skilled welders in key sectors of the economy.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the ‘Module C’ Welders Training and Certification Programme (WTCP), in Lagos recently, Ajayi, noted that the programme is in tandem with President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda for youth empowerment and employment.

He said growing skills gap in the country, especially in the oil and gas sector led the Fund to conduct an industry-wide skills gap audit, which revealed a huge gap in capacity building.

According to him, in 2001, the Fund conducted an industry-wide skills gap audit, which identified capacity building in the area of welding and fabrication as a veritable tool to achieving quick wins or plucking low hanging fruits in the quest for the development of local content in the oil and gas industry.

“The audit identified the requirement of about 8,000 skilled welders to effectively man the ongoing and planned oil and gas projects in Nigeria. By the year 2020, Nigeria would need about 20,000 welders if it were to attain and remain among the 20 most advanced countries in the world. Thus the Fund’s resolve to train and empower Nigerian youths to acquire skills and become productive in the sector”, he added.

He said WTCP is in line with the federal government’s drive to domesticate activities in the nation’s oil and gas sector, adding that government is fully committed to building capacities and creating a pool of internationally certified welder to enhance Nigerian content development in the petroleum industry.

He challenged about 400 beneficiaries of the WTCP to be disciplined and dedicated to their programme so as to proceed to Advance Welding Certification Programme targeted for the best 200 participants.

“The best in skill and attitude will benefit from further programme which Advanced Welding course. It was the skill gap challenge that prompted the Fund to develop the WTCP targeted at training and certifying 2500 Nigerians as international welders.

“We have so far trained over 1000 Nigerians in various stages of the Welders Training and Certification programme to international certifications. A good number of the trained welders are currently engaged in the industry, while many of them are being used by the various training centers as qualified instructors of the International Institute of Welding. One can confidently affirm that the ‘Train-the-Trainer’ approach in which 22 Nigerians were trained in South Africa and Germany has lived up to expectation,” Ajayi expressed.

He charged the trainees to be of exemplary conduct and strictly comply with the training schedules and regulations so as to progress to further programmes.

Though the entry requirement for the nine-months course is O-level result, but the Fund’s secretary revealed that about 80 per cent of the participants comprised OND, HND and Bachelor’s degree holders.

In his remark, Head Nigerian Content Department PTDF, Yinka Agboola said the essence is to empower young people in Nigeria to become international welders, so that the can fill the gaps in the oil and gas industry.

“We have this problem of unemployment and then it is because people don’t have the right skills, you keep hearing that there are too many people without jobs, but what is really happening is that there are too many jobs without people, the jobs are there but people don’t have the skills to do this job, so that is why we are empowering them with the right skills so they can take up the job positions in the oil and gas sector,” he said.

On the selection process, he said, “We advertised and people applied, though the entry requirement is school certificate but we still organised aptitude test, so people were selected based on their performance. The programme is in three stages, module A is the fillet welding; B is the plate welding and C, which is the last stage is the pipe welding. It is a progression process, you have to pass module A before moving to module B and then C before you can have the international certification by International Institute of Welding.”

President, Nigeria Institute of Welding, Dr. Solomon Edabiri, commended PTDF for approving the WTCP programme stressing that however there is need to review the policy and accommodate new trends.

Mrs Tokunbo Afolabi, the Manager, Bank of Agriculture, Lagos Branch, on Thursday urged the youths to take advantage of the collateral-free funding opportunities provided by the bank, to empower themselves.

She made the call while speaking at the Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, 2015 General Meeting in Lagos.

According to her, youths between the ages of 18 and 35 years, who engaged in agribusiness, can access up to N1m loans, without collateral.

“The loan is dedicated solely to the youths, in partnership with the Federal Government’s ‘You Win’ programme.

“The loan is granted to youths for start-ups or expansion of agribusiness,” Afolabi said.

She, however, added that youths applying for the loan must provide two acceptable guarantors, one of which must be a civil servant.
