AgricultureAnambra Tomato And Cassava Plantation To Create 13,500 Direct Jobs by wnycom(op): 4:53pm On Mar 12, 2015
Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, on Thursday launched N16bn worth plantation exclusively for cultivation and processing of tomato and cassava in the state.

Speaking at the event in Anaku, Ayamelum Local Government Area, Obiano announced that the project was part of his administration’s agrarian revolution.

He said the state had opened its doors to agro-investors, who had since discovered what the state had to offer on investment.

Obiano said, “Today, we are on a different turf; Ekcel Farms is investing in cassava and tomato.

“It will produce over 150,000 tons of tomato puree.

“This investment is a blessing to the Omasi people in particular and to the state in general.

“It will attract 13,500 direct jobs and over 100,000 indirect jobs.”

The governor explained that the company would allocate five per cent of its annual profit to the host community, 10 per cent to the state government and another five per cent to the provision of amenities.

Earlier, Chairman of Ekcel Farms Ltd., Mr Emeka Okwuosa, said the company became interested in the state when it realised that the governor’s economic blueprint was not a political gimmick.

“It became obvious from the way he went about tackling the challenge of insecurity in the state.

“If Anambra were not secure, Ekcel Farms would not be here today,” Okwuosa said.

He said when fully operational, the farm would be producing 21,000 tons of cassava per annum, while it would produce 150,000 tons of raw tomato and 51,000 tons of tomato paste.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman of Anambra State Investment Promotion and Protection Agency (ANSIPPA), Mr Cyril Enweze, expressed optimism that the Ekcel Farms would attract more investors to the state.

Agriculture6,618 Youths Trained In Commercial Farming – Minister by wnycom(op): 9:30pm On Mar 09, 2015
The Minister of Agriculture, Adesina Akinwunmi, has said no fewer than 6,618 youths have been trained in agriculture business and large scale farming.

He spoke at the Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, on Friday, during a press play programme organised by the United Mandate to enlighten youths on how to become wealth creators.

Akinwunmi, who was represented by the Higher Education Officer in charge of gender and youth, Mr. Blaise Ogbozor, lamented that many youths were not tapping into available opportunities on how to gain financial support from government.

“Nigerian youths are so cynical and unaware of what is going on around them and especially about the government policies. Since 2012, government has been following a programme to revolutionise agriculture,” he added.

Stressing the potential in farming, he added, “we must not leave agriculture to the old people and village people alone.”

The South-West Programme Officer of United Mandate, Olufemi Lawson, said the target of press play was to reach out to youths between the age of 18 and 35 years all over the country, especially students of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education.

He said, “The mentality of Nigerian youth is that government must provide job to them after school. The truth is that there is no government anywhere in the world that can employ all the youths.

“We realised that there are windows of opportunity being created by government at federal and state levels like SMEDAN, YouWin, SURE-P, NAPEP etc.

“We have come to enlighten students on how to tap into these opportunities. You don’t have to be a graduate before you can access some of these opportunities. By this, youth can become job creators instead of job seekers.

Jobs/VacanciesBeware Of Fake Nis Recruitment by wnycom(op): 3:24pm On Feb 21, 2015
Comptroller-General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Mr. David Parradang, has urged Nigerians seeking employment into the service to disregard money-for-job offers by individuals, saying they are scams.

This was contained in a statement by Mr. Chukwuemeka Obua, the service Public Relations Officer and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Saturday.

The statement said many criminal elements were currently using fake websites and social media accounts to defraud unsuspecting members of the public, seeking enlistment into the NIS.

It said the criminal elements used the fake sites to pose as the Comptroller-General and the PRO of the service to offer job placements to unsuspecting members of the public.

“The Comptroller-General wishes to advise members of the public to disregard any such money-for-job offers on the fake website and social media platforms.’’

It said the ongoing recruitment as being handled by the Presidential Committee, set up to assist in the conduct of 2015 Immigration recruitment, would be fair and transparent.

PoliticsGroup Charges Ekiti Youths On Electoral Violence by wnycom(op): 10:30am On Feb 21, 2015
Urge Ekiti youths to make use of the opportunities in Gov Fayose’s administration
A youth group Organization for Youth Betterment and Empowerment has urged Ekiti youths to not allow themselves to be used as political tools for violence in the coming election.

The coordinator of the group, Mr Babatunde Oyedele stated this while meeting with some of the youths in the state capital Ado-Ekiti. He said Ekiti has been known to be a controversial state during elections and this could be traced to the vulnerability of Ekiti youths used by politicians as thugs to cause violence and disruptions in the state.

The unscrupulous politicians take the advantage of unemployed, frustrated, hungry and angry youths to use them to achieve their selfish interest in causing mayhem in the state and at the end of the day these youths are still abandoned when they get into power. These politicians keep their families abroad away and safe, while they engage other people’s children in dangerous acts of violence.

The future of our country lies in the hands of our youths. They are filled with monumental and extraordinary aspirations. Youth are the building blocks of a nation. It is a fact that the stronger the youth, the more developed the nation is. The role of the youth in democracy occupies the central place.

When a nation utilize their youth in the right direction they are more developed. The energy and brightness of the minds of youth act as torch-bearers for a nation. Politicians who fail to make use of youths in the right direction lag behind in every department of life.

Youths also have their role to play by rejecting any form of violence and empty promises made by politicians to use them as thugs to cause disruption in the state. Voting is your power to vote in or out any political party, if is used well youths will benefits greatly by voting for the right party and the right candidates that will take the country to the next level.

Ekiti youths have the best opportunities under Governor Fayose’s administration, as he had shown in his first term in office by giving opportunities to youths in his cabinet. The sacking of some workers in the state which affected most youths recruited by the previous administration is not to create hardship for the youths in the state, but to give everyone opportunity to participate in recruitment exercise in the state and be employed into the proper civil services.

The empowerment programme of Governor Fayose’s administration will give Ekiti youths an edge to compete with their peers in developed countries in delivering best products and services that will improve the economic situation in the state.

Governor Ayo Fayose’s administration is just four months in office and with all the debt inherited from the previous government, Ekiti youths should be patient with the government and should key into the youth development programmes his administration will provide.

President Goodluck Jonathan unveiled the Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy, designed to aggregate all the programmes in a single window portal for the use of the beneficiaries.

He said that with the new strategy, his administration would be providing jobs to the tune of 2 million per annum.

He called on Nigerian youths to key in to the entrepreneurship strategy which he said had been designed to turn Nigeria into a different country in the next ten years going by the process.

Taking a break from campaign tours across the country to attend to the needs of Nigerian youths, the President beat his chest that jobs are being provided already and he would like to do more.

Some of the past beneficiaries of the YouWin, SURE-P, Agropreneurs and the graduate internship programmes, who are already employers of labour, also validated the President’s claims as they shared their testimonies.

The CEO of Anabel Group, Nicholas Okoye, who has been part of waging the war against unemployment, reeled out a startling statistics of what the Jonathan administration job creation programme had achieved so far.

Jobs/Vacancies2015: Nigeria Youth Entrepreneurship Network by wnycom(op): 4:41pm On Feb 11, 2015

He also created the portal that would enable more Nigerian youths to benefit from the various programmes.

It is believed that the new portal would eliminate the complains associated with all the job creation programmes.

PoliticsFirst Nigeria President To Create 5,400 Direct Jobs? by wnycom(op): 11:39am On Feb 11, 2015
President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday boasted that his was the first administration in the history of the country to create 5,400 direct jobs for the nation’s unemployed youths.

The President said the feat was achieved through the Federal Government’s Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria, otherwise called YouWin.

Jonathan spoke during the inauguration of the Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The programme was designed to encourage youth employment and self-reliance.

Jonathan also said 2,500 entrepreneurs empowered by his administration had also created an average of nine jobs each, therefore, bringing the total jobs created to 22,000.

The President said, “This will be the first government in the history of Nigeria that will directly create 5,400 jobs through the YouWin programmes. I am also proud to say that the 2,500 entrepreneurs have created an average of nine jobs each, making it a total of 22,000 jobs so far.

“Entrepreneurs are the engine room of Nigeria’s economy as they are responsible for more than 60 per cent of our $510bn Gross Domestic Product and the MSMEs are responsible for almost 98 per cent of the new jobs created in our economy on an annual basis.

“The new jobs we are targeting will come from the SMEs.”

Jonathan expressed delight that the success story of his administration’s job creation efforts was impressive and beyond expectation.

The failure rate of the programme, he added, was less than 10 per cent.

He said his administration at inception identified unemployment among youths as one of the greatest challenges to tackle.

This, he said, was the reason why his government took numerous steps to tackle the challenge.

He said his administration’s target was to create not less than two million jobs annually.

The Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna, had earlier described the programme as a private sector-driven initiative that sought to empower youth.

The Chief Executive Officer of Anabel Group, Mr. Nicholas Okoye, said the present administration had empowered over seven million youths.

Okoye said the figure had surpassed the total of those empowered by previous administrations put together.

“Those who say you (Jonathan) have not done anything for the youth are simply not saying the truth,” he said.

Noting that all Nigerian problems are subset of employment crisis among the youth, Okoye commended the Federal Government for tackling the challenge headlong.
