@Chydoo

MPLS is not a full mesh thing o, imagine running hub and spoke architecture on your provider network, you do not need any full mesh configuration, you can use route reflectors and multi-protocol BGP to carry your vpn connections over the label switched paths. The important thing about MPLS is the underlying IGP, you mess that up, your MPLS will not work, also when running ospf over frame relay, run network type point to multipoint (because of the way ospf carries next hop information). I am quite excited about mpls because of its traffic engineering capabilities and the fact that when fully deployed by tier 1 providers, qos on the internet can be achieved.

Posted a response on the MPLS stuff but could not see it here. MPLS is a layer 2.5 protocol, so, any layer 2 or layer 3 layer protocol will go on it, it actually does not require full mesh connectivity, it just requires that you are conversant with layers 2 and 3 protocols and BGP very very well. The benefits are for vpns and quality of service, by the way doing layer2 vpn seems kind of wacky in a service provider network.

So you assumed Chydoo was mixing up the concept of IBGP full mesh and MPLS? Maybe what he meant was that it is a cloud controlled by the SP. undecided

Talking important thing about MPLS - Every piece of forming the LSP is important. If something is wrong somewhere/anywhere then the MPLS network won't function properly. You can chose to run MPLS without any routing protocol sef and also have MPLS VPNs without MP-BGP -VRF-lite (at least that's cisco's implementation of this). Not that any serious SP would use the 'raw' hub and spoke network topology.

I don't really get how the frame-relay ospf thing came into the picture. Anyway, you can use broadcast network type if you want. Just make sure you have your layer3 to layer2 mappings right and you would be fine. Yes, I also think the idea of Internet QoS is really nice isnt it.

Why would you think running layer2 VPN seems wacky? It depends on the requirements of the applications that are being used by the subscribers of the SP. If they don't need L2VPNs then let them use L3VPNs. It is the choices that the SP would give, that's what make them stand out. Some customers don't want to peer with the service provider's router for several reasons. It doesn't seem wacky at all. Sometimes, it might be easier for the SP to just give them L2VPN sef. I think I know why you dont like it, the extra L2 headers abi? Its not so much now, wacky ke, how now?
Satellite TV Technology / Re: Blackberry Pin For Quick Fta Interactions by woodrose: 10:04am On Mar 28, 2011
Hi TwinsTaiye,

I need an FTA satellite installation for a hotel in V.I. My company deals with distribution of the video signals round the building but we outsource the satellite installation usually.

Kindly contact (PM) me as soon as possible. Sorry, I do not have a blackberry. But I will try to borrow one before the end of the day smiley.

Thanks

THANK GOD I'VE FOUND MY HOME IN NL smiley

Hi Guys,i am a jjc immigrant who was excited about the oppurnities i would get in the I.T/telecomm industries in the states. My background is as such:electrical engineering(first degree),some network adminstration experience,lan/cabling.cisco certs, ccnp in progress.

Career goals:to be a voip engineer, get a Msc in telecomms degree(US),gets hands dirty in i.p networks

Challenges:overwelmed by the reguirements for entry level positions(helpdesk, tech support e.t.c),hindered by 'experience'

Question:please gentlemen i need advice as to how to break into the i.t industry in the u.s,while pursuing my career goals.thanks

Hey justwonder,
I am new on this forum myself

Fantastic career goals you have there. Question, however, is that how far are you into the CCNP certs? Do you have a thorough understanding of IP and related protocols not just acquiring the certs? Apart from experience, is there any other thing that is in the requirements that you do not have presently?

To try to answer your questions with the limited information I have (i am assuming you are eligible to work with your visa): The U.S. is a performance based environment - If you are very good at what you do, try to emphasize it on your CV, you'll soon find a good job. I will advise you to complete your CCNP as soon as possible. Since you want to be a voice engineer, you might need to start looking at voice certifications CCNA voice and CCVP etc.

Yes, the main thing you need is the MPLS core. The payload for MPLS packets can be ,  well,  anything - You can carry IP, IPv6, ethernet frames, voice etc over the same IP/MPLS core network as opposed to ordinary IP core which can carries only IP 'conveniently'. I heard MTN even wants to start implementing Layer2 VPNs (Metro Ethernet, VPLS, QinQ, etc) for corporate. They presently deploy some layer3 VPNs for some banks - This is not exactly mobile services yet they can use the same core to carry all these traffic as well as the 3G, GPRS data. Note that anything you can do with MPLS, you can do without it. MPLS just makes doing alot of things with the core easier. If you were a mobile operator, wouldn't you switch to MPLS core? grin

All the mobile networks are eventually going to switch to MPLS core. Time invested in mastering MPLS is definitely not wasted.

Yes I am talking about asterisk and a firewall all in one box. Mini computer with two network interfaces.

Nice, let's know how it works and what your plans are.

Do we have to get our hands dirty with iptables and asterisk or you have a GUI that does the configurations? This would be a a nice avenue to learn these technologies.

Nice project, firewall, VoIP, router all in one box. I am very interested, just the time.
What would be the commitment level you demand from me?

Any other fellows in the house want in?

Would you guys  be interested in helping to build a linux based PBX system?

Hey b-_-d,
What do you have in mind?  I am really busy these days but if the project is 'interesting' enough, I guess I will be able to squeeze out some time for this.
You are talking about asterisk, right?

Chydoo:

You guys are really doing a great Job. More grease to your elbows, most especially  AjanleKoko. I really do appreciate the patience required to respond to every post directed at you, even in your busy schedule.

AjanleKoko, I would really appreciate your input here. I work in the Data communication industry but will like to venture into the mobile telecoms industry. My intrest is more in IP than RF/ physical topology.

With global NGN mobile tending to an IP/ MPLS based core, I would like to know how much the local mobile telecoms industry has embraced it.

Apart from MTN, which other mobile telco has embraced (or is about embracing) an IP/MPLS based core. I want to position myself for this local revolution, if its going to happen anytime soon.

Thanks

Let me try to help AjanleKoko on this one,   smiley
It seems that you are interested in the core data network,  that is a good area, that's where I also specialise

What you need to know is why telcos need an IP/MPLS core. Do you know why?
Any serious service provider that provisions VPNs for its subscribers should use an IP/MPLS core network for several reasons. If you do not know why, find out.  tongue

I know cyberspace has an IP/MPLS core. I think Globacom as well, at least they were planning on having one last I heard,  this was about 2 years ago.

Hope to help

Hello everybody,

Ajanlekoko/Other professionals,

I need to find out: What is the best way to advertise IP services to the telecoms operators. Especially Glo and Etisalat.
My company (A system integrator company) is a local partner for several (1 based in Europe, 1 in Canada, and 2 in the United States) companies that offer services to service providers.

I have a product, the license is expiring soon and I need for a PoC to be organised before the network freeze.

My company presently works for one of the GSM mobile operators in Nigeria. We are deploying for another CDMA operator presently.

Please can you send me your skype ID through PM so we can discuss more on this
I have been trying to send a PM to you but apparently 'normal' users cannot send PMs

Hoping to hear from you soon

Thanks

Hello moderator/everyone,
I work in a Systems Integration Company
Geared towards improving the QoE for subscribers on service provider networks and also increasing the ROI for Telecoms Providers
We presently work for the biggest Telecoms Provider in Nigeria (at least that's what they call themselves) and we are looking to expand to other providers.

How can I send a private message to the moderator of this forum?
