But of course!

However, let me tell you this, some people in here make it very hard for someone who isn't Nigerian to feel fully welcomed or whatever. The constant nagging & clucking about why you're in a Nigerian forum bla bla bla is very off-putting. Makes you wonder if the owner of the site is aware that people get this much needling when he is the one that allows us to register here. It really wears on one's patience to be honest. But for now, this place has become an addiction of sorts for me. I'll get over it soon enough I know.

I'll try the bookstores if all else fails. The travel section usually has books teaching slangs & whatnot of every destination.
And then of course, there's Nairaland.

Dude, I've been looking for a book on Pidgin but we don't have it in our holdings. I checked our catalog already. I work in a small surburbian library though, so I've been thinking of going the inter-library loan route & see if the inner city library has anything on Pidgin. I'll look into it tomorrow if I don't forget cheesy
The problem you may encounter in your research is that pidgin English is so colourful that you find variations from place to place. The only constant is that it is dominated by the English language which as you must have noticed is corrupted. Then you find words from other languages such as Portuguese (which is the case with Nigerian pidgin)French and other local languages. It is not a language that is taught in schools here so you won't find books on it. Jamaican patois, Sierra leonian krio(creole) are still pidgin English.Ghanaians speak a pidgin that's closest to ours. The Fijians have it as their official language so they will have books ,but that's not gonna help you with any west African pidgin.

Library.

Languages are my thing since I work with written work on a daily basis. I love reading about different cultures as well. Read, read, read, is all I do. Both as a trade & as a hobby.
So have your readings taken you to the etymology of Nigerian pidgin English. I do know a thing or two about Afrikaans-its history that is. History was my major by the way.

In my spare time I study Urdu, Punjab, Hindi, Twi & every other language I find interesting. My line of work makes one hungry for knowledge.
What line of work might that be, and what area of knowledge has aroused your interest lately apart from languages?

No,i'm not making excuse for either of them, don't get me wrong. In my first post,i mentioned kacey's disrespect for his marriage.
I'm only trying to correct the fact that most people including you condemn kacey alone living out ellah, like ellah doesn't know that she is meant to steer clear of kacey being a married man. Someone even made excuse for ellah that she's single and not obliged to anyone. As a single lady, once I know a guy is married,i just back off no matter what I feel for him.

Moreover last night,it was obvious that ellah was the Hot one,i believe you saw her act with idris before she went back to kacey's bed.
Kacey is loving up. For me that's where his Erring the most. If he sleeps with the chic because the konji is too spiritual for him its understandable but going around the house like a lovestruck teenager is avoidable therefore inexcusable for someone who is married. Its a punk mushy behaviour for a bros like him. He is not a 21 year old Idris.

Her butt is Humongous but evidently she is cerebrally challenged. She is supposed to flash it without him being sure it is meant for him. Now he knows her game and she has been nominated by him. Where weak minds stumble, strong minds stand tall.

If Nhlanhla had smarts as you're trying to claim here, he wouldn't have been reduced to the level of a common errand boy by a small girl like Sheillah. That's number 1.
Number 2, he would have also known beforehand, that male housemates don't win BBA by gossiping about their fellow male housemates like spineless market woman. Richard was many nasty things, but an insecure gossip he was not; neither was Kevin; neither was Uti, and neither was Ricco.

Also, try to keep in mind that the reason Sheillah and Nhlanhla are not on speaking terms, is because Sheillah is unhappy with Nhlanhla's actions, NOT because Nhlanhla decided to grow a brain for once in his life. Nhlanhla, Goitse, Sammy and JJ all made fun of Sheillah for not knowing who Piers Morgan was; and for that reason, she decided to cut ties with Nhlanhla; so in other words - They are not on speaking terms, because Sheillah got fed up with Nhlanhla, not the other way round.
She left him.

Just putting that out there.
I also see nothing intelligent in badmouthing Sammy his country girl. The fact is, people :who are taciturn often come across as being more intelligent than their gregarious counterpart but they only seem intelligent because they don't talk and are often afraid to act. A man's ability to adapt and respond to failure and mistakes and survive is an indicator of intelligence. No one bounces back like Tayo in that house and he reads housemates better than most. He is not a dinosaurs. Nhlanhka is just waking up from his hibernation and poosy-whipping.

There are 4million Zimbabweans in SA so I am as confused as you on why they refer to every foreigner as Nigerians. Maybe na the swag. We taking over one city at a time.
You know Naija generally no believe in siddon look and wait for your turn. We get to the kitchen and aim straight for the pot. Nothing is ever given; you gotta claim your shoes. No time for my yam no done. That will definitely put fear in peoples hearts and have them pluralizing a single Nigerian. Plus he is definitely not planning to go to SA and survive on menial labor. So upward mobility is a must , and fast too. plus there are peeps to show him the ropes do that he won't dull himself. Aggress to progress. That's the motto.

this Permethius is too gifted. I really pray he makes it.
He is gifted but is one if those people who get in the way of their own progress. The guy has been fake so long he has forgotten who he actually is, who he's deceiving, why he is doing it and for how long he was meant to do it. so sometimes he believes his own lies. That's the reason he can't win. This is not about the game, it is who he is. If only he would just be comfortable in his own skin.

It's not as bad as portrayed in the media. Yes, we have crime but which country is free of criminals or criminal activity? Nigerians get treated the same way Ethiopians, Somalis etc get treated...with indifference for the most part. Most South Africans can't differentiate between a Ghanaian, Nigerian, Tanzanian etc until someone actually states where exactly they are from.

I remember when we 1st welcomed foreigners into the country, the 1st were the Zimbabweans & we didn't know who they were or where they were coming from so we called them Ghanaians for whatever reason. All African foreign nationals were referred to as Ghanaians until recently because some are now able to tell the difference between people from different African countries. However, now that we have more Nigerians in the country, everyone who is not South African is a Nigerian in our eyes...whether they are actually from Nigeria or not. This is more highlighted with the older South Africans though. Example, my aunt calls the Somalis running a shop in her "hood", Nigerians. But younger people can tell apart a Somali & an Ethiopian from the rest. It's only difficult when it comes to telling apart the rest ie. Ghana, Nigeria, DRC etc. Remember, we're still new to having "other" people in the country so it is going to take some time & a lot of getting used to.
Why is everyone who is a foreignerNigerian if you have more Zimbabweans in SA. I think someone on this forum said that there are 300k Nigerians in SA. Surely there must be some of your closer neighbours who are more than that in your country. enlighten me.

Goitse is being a meddler. Why should Nhlanhla apologise to Sheila?

Btw, I love Nhlanhla's persona. I can relate to everything he says. He says when someone avoids him thinking that they are punishing him, if only they knew that they are actually giving him the one thing he values the most-- SPACE. I like that. Bend to nobody, brah.
She's trying to use withdrawal to punish him? It would have the exact effect its having on the guy on me. still over the Pearce Morgan issue of yesterday?

That's why before settling down a man has to sow his wild oats. That guy looks like someone who's feeling privileged to have the attention of a chic like that. He's all lovey-dovey disrespecting his wife in her absence on continental TV. He's not the type to be hitting it and quitting it. This one will even pain his wife more. He is married but inexperienced. Dude is just singlehandedly falling the hand of the whole Ghanaian nation.

Most I know about changed from males to females. so its probably true. I guess its why they say to be a man is not a day's job. Except when a man is stressed ,we are always ready for action- we were born ready. Its how we are wired upstairs. To achieve that would surely take more than an operation.

huh , so people with big bums(natural) shouldn't flaunt cause you're torn between 2 soccer clubs? People who go for sex change are a confused bunch, by the way...does that stuff really work? It doesn't to the best of my understanding
It works. The first thing is the operation, then the injection of hormones to make the changes visible in other parts of the body; the rest is psychological. You are what you think you are.
