Don't you get this feeling that Yo Gotti is almost there when it comes to perennial rap status? Ironically, the song that put him in this conversation was probably his most basic one in "Down in the DM". But if you been listening to Yo Gotti throughout the years, you know he is an OG in the game that is more than capable of putting out a decent body of work. With this album, I'm expecting even bigger things from Gotti, and I am curious if he delivers. Read the full review: http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/yo-gotti-art-of-hustler-album-review.html |

Rap Category is always so competitive! Below is who I think will win each award. http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/the-ratings-game-presents-grammy.html |
As someone who rates music, I am very familiar of Nas and his career. What made Nas great is his ability to inspire, and not be influenced by what people are doing in the hip hop game. This is why Kendrick Lamar respects him so much, and has seen some success following that same method. In the same sense, he does have some radio friendly and club hits on his resume, but anything he's done, he's always done it his way. |
Future, Wiz Khalifa, Beyonce and Young Thug all dropped something new this weekend! See where they rank in my top 5 songs of the week! http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/top-5-new-tracks-of-week-weekending_8.html |
Future dropped another album/project, his third in a year span! I'll tell you right now, the beats on this album are EXCELLENT! How did we rate the album? and what were the top 5? http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/future-evol.html |
Young Thug's new mixtape 'I'm up' is very 'Interesting'! It's very animated, and is very versatile. Is it good though? http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/young-thug-im-up-mixtape-review.html |
I love this debate on Kendrick Lamar vs. Common, vs. J. Cole, Vs. Eminem! What makes a good RAPPER is usually about 4-5 things: Lyrics, Content, Flow, Delivery, Presence. What makes a good RAP ARTIST usually is: Lyrics, Content, Versatility, and MOST IMPORTANTLY creativity. Common is a good rapper, and in my opinion is better lyrically/flow-wise/delivery than Cole, Kendrick Lamar and Eminem. I've heard all their albums multiple times....I'm very knowledgeable of them all. However, At this time, Common is not a better rap artist than Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Eminem etc., as they are extremely creative in their subject matters and versatility. Kendrick and Cole can jump on any type of song.....Ratchet, soulful, kiddy, dabbing, intellectual, commercial etc. Common is not as versatile. That doesn't mean Common sucks, it just means he's not that type of rapper. He stays in his lane. As a listener, it's fine if your favorite artist stays in your lane when it comes to music, cause in the end of the day, it's what you like. But understand that someone that taps into several different lanes, and still keeps some of those important elements that make a good rapper such as lyrics, flow, content will be appreciated more. |

No One is wrong when you think about what makes a song commercial or not. It's all subjective. A song can be "noncommercial", but still reach the masses. When I mentioned one of the "Top Rap Albums of all time", I meant in terms of every aspect including the production, it's innovation, it's appeal, its subject matter, it's energy, it's everything. It's the whole body of work! You gotta look at every aspect of an album, not just one if you want to be considered one of the top albums. Rick Ross is one of the few artists that actually accommodates all those descriptions on Teflon Don. |
My fellow people! Wiz Khalifa released an album yesterday (Who knew!), I give you the top 5 songs from it, and its overall rating. It's not bad actually! http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/02/wiz-khalifa-khalifa.html |
1. Work (Rihanna) (4.7/5) Mmmmmm Baby Girl, we love the Calypso vibe to this track! Gets our sexy pores to come out! In all seriousness: What I like most about Rihanna and Drake collaborations are their chemistry. It's more than just verses being laid down, it's an understanding from each person of what they're feeling at the time. If Rihanna wants to be a naughty girl, Drake is that one dork that challenges her to be naughty. If Drake wants to be sappy, Rihanna is that one down ass chick that is laying in the blanket with him watching forensic files. It's chemistry! On this song the chemistry continues as it's a combination of sap, naughtiness and island. I can dig that. It has a great vibe to it, and Rihanna's accent is absolutely beautiful for the track. People may not like the simpleness of the lyrics, but hey, I don't like the simpleness of Chipotle's chicken cleaning process, but I'll still eat there. (Check Out the rest of our Anti Review) PS: Is it me, or is Rihanna blabbing certain things on the song? 2. War Pain (Meek Mill) (4.6/5) People will ask over and over again which diss track was better Summer Sixteen or War Pain? I say it depends.....If I'm chillin' at home, drinking a smoothie on my couch without a care in a world, summer sixteen might be my choice. If I'm trying to hear an all out diss track where the rapper wants to rip the other rapper to shreds....War Pain is fitting! So to me, it's a tie. This track is tough, it's gutter, it's nasty, it's REAL HIP HOP! Meek wastes no time in letting people know he doesn't like his foes, and he is being very specific when describing why. His tone contains built up anger, mixed with the cockiness of someone smashing a popular pop singer. 2. Summer Sixteen (Drake) (4.6/5) Drake is back, and boy is he talking trash! He references Jay, Obama, Meek Mill, Kanye West and Torey Lanez in this track, and most are direct disses. He makes it clear where he stands, and why he needs to be respected on this track. You can hear it in his tone.....IT'S SOOOOO DISRESPECTFUL! Interestingly Drake tells the back story of 'Back to Back', which describes him playing the song over and over again while Meek was downstairs (which might I add was very Petty Wap of him.). He also describes his moves thereafter which I thought was very informative of him. Overall, the song is very lyrical, the beat hits hard, ANNNNNNND he's being disrespectful.....I LIKEY! 4. Not The Only One (4.6/5) This track gets to it immediately! No crazy punchlines, just rapping about his rap career and how he came up. It's a fitting way to start an album off. The beat is phenomenal, as it fits the underdog vibe that Kevin Gates is rapping with. The constant sirens throughout the song also adds to its seriousness! The chorus highlights Kevin Gates ability to harmonize, and boy does he do it well. He sounds like that one thug that can sing the hell out of a hymn at church! He switches styles throughout the chorus, which adds complexity to it that is enjoyable. I approve this song. (See Our Kevin Gates Review Here) 5. Slippin' (Meek Mill) (4.3/5) If you were a big DMX fan like my siblings and I were back in the day, you know that if you were gonna touch DMX slippin you had to be as close to rap Jesus as it gets. Meek ain't rap Jesus, but he did pretty damn well on this remake! I've always said Meek has that feel of an old school east coast rapper, and songs like these exhibit that. His lyrics are tough, and most importantly, BELIEVABLE! Future kills the chorus! Incorporating his own mellow, sounding like he's dying on a hospital bed like style to the track. It keeps the song in perspective. Dave East adds that underdog, Harlem hustler style to it keeping it organic. I LIKEY! (For More Top 5's Go to www.theratingsgame.net) |
Teflon Don is one of the top hip hop albums of all time to me. It's that good! |

I'ma big fan of Rick Ross confidence. Homeboy continuously got better. His new album is pretty decent. http://www.theratingsgame.net/2015/12/rick-ross-black-market.html Surprisingly, I think he even got better! |
Kevin Gates released his log anticipated album 'Islah' which is named after his daughter (I like that name). However, I do not like his album, and I'll tell you why in the link. http://www.theratingsgame.net/2016/01/kevin-gates-islah.html |
