⚡US and Japanese rescuers found five bodies on Monday following the crash of an Osprey military aircraft last week off Japan with eight crew on board, the US military said. “Today (Monday), the combined Japanese and United States teams had a breakthrough when their surface ships and dive teams were able to locate remains along with the main fuselage of the aircraft wreckage,” the US Air Force said in a statement. “The dive teams were able to confirm five additional crew members from the original team of eight that were involved with the crash,” it said. “Currently two crew members of the five located today have been successfully recovered by the attending teams. There is an ongoing combined effort to recover the remaining crew members from the wreckage.”

⚡Why Ukrainian counteroffensive didn’t go according to plan, by Washington Post. The article is based on interviews with more than 30 Ukrainian and American officials, as well as with more than 20 officers and soldiers on the front lines. Ukrainian, American and British militaries played eight large board war games to develop a plan for the campaign. The Pentagon wanted the offensive to begin in mid-April to prevent Russia from strengthening its position. Modeling showed that, in the best case, Ukrainian troops would be able to reach the Sea of Azov and cut off Russian troops in the south in 60-90 days. The United States advocated a focused offensive along the southern axis, but Zaluzhny believed his forces should attack at three different points along a 600-mile front: south (toward Melitopol and Berdyansk on the Sea of Azov) and east (toward Bakhmut). Zaluzhny planned to turn the huge length of the front into a problem for Russia. He wanted to stretch Russia's much larger forces and weaken their fighting power. Western officials saw problems with this approach, which would also reduce the firepower of the Ukrainian military at any point of attack. Western military doctrine dictated a concentrated offensive against a single target. But they didn’t push it enough and in the end they did as Zaluzhny wanted.

Concerns continue to be raised that the fighting between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas could spark a wider war in the Middle East. Israeli officials have threatened to bomb Lebanese capital Beirut in a similar way to their campaign in Gaza, while some US hawks have called for an attack on Iran. Moscow, however, believes there is “no appetite” for a major conflict in Lebanon or Iran, Lavrov stated, adding that neither country wants “any involvement in this crisis.” It is not disputed that this assessment is true for Iran, regardless of an escalation of attacks by militia forces on American bases in the region, which Washington has blamed on Tehran. “Yes, Americans say that some ‘pro-Iranian’ armed groups in Syria and Iraq are trying to attack American military sites,” the Russian minister said, describing such incidents as “nothing new.” Lavrov suggested that the US military presence in Syria was clearly illegal and was also questionable in Iraq, considering that the latter country’s parliament ordered the government to oust American forces in 2020. 3 Likes 2 Shares

According to recent social survey data, the commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is “trusted” and “rather trusted” by 82% of voters. Zelensky - 72% and this figure is trending downward. However, the incumbent would win the election if a runoff were to occur. He would have received 42% of the votes. But Zaluzhny would not be far behind - only by 2%. And then, not everywhere.
