⚡Biden Administration Held Back ATACMS Due to Shortage - But Also, They Were Pretty Useless – Jake Sullivan The Biden administration delayed supplying ATACMS long-range missiles to Ukraine not because of fears of World War III, but due to a shortage in the U.S. stockpile, according to former National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan. Initially, the U.S. withheld the missiles because the Secretary of Defense and U.S. Armed Forces informed the President that the stockpile was too limited to meet even the basic deterrence needs of the U.S. They specifically advised against transferring the missiles to another country. Sullivan noted that over time, the U.S. ramped up production of the missiles, which eventually allowed for deliveries to Ukraine. However, after supplying as many as they could, the U.S. is now back to stockpile levels that prevent further transfers.

⚡Russian President Vladimir Putin praised Elon Musk on Wednesday, telling university students he was a pioneer comparable to legendary Soviet rocket engineer Sergei Korolev. The comments came as Russia and the United States forged closer ties under President Donald Trump’s administration, of which billionaire SpaceX founder Musk is a key figure. “You know, there’s a man — he lives in the States — Musk, who, you could say, raves about Mars,” Putin told students on a visit to Bauman University, a Moscow college that specialises in science and engineering. “These are the kind of people who don’t often appear in the human population, charged-up with a certain idea.” “If it seems incredible even today, such ideas often come to fruition after a while. Just like the ideas of Korolev, our pioneers, came about in due time,” Putin added. |

⚡China Tightens Grip on Rare Earths—Targeting the US. As trade tensions rise, Beijing weaponizes seven rare earth metals critical to US military and tech. From fighter jets to MRI machines, these elements are everywhere—and China controls the supply chain. • Terbium: Key for smartphone screens, aircraft magnets, and missiles. Heat-resistant but scarce. China supplies most exports to Japan, South Korea, and the U.S. • Yttrium: Used in cancer treatment and superconductors. U.S. mines it but lacks processing; 93% of imports come from China. • Dysprosium: Vital for EV and wind turbine magnets, plus nuclear rods. Less than 0.1% reaches the U.S, Malaysia may ramp up output. • Gadolinium: Enhances MRI scans and metal alloys. Also used in nuclear reactors. • Lutetium: A dense catalyst metal used in oil refining. U.S. imports nearly all from China. • Samarium: Powers magnets in turbines and lasers. U.S. classifies it as a critical material. • Scandium: Found in aerospace parts and oil refining. Not produced in the U.S. since the 1970s; EU production expected. • Neodymium & Praseodymium: Essential for EV motors and turbines. China dominates production, though not yet restricted. The U.S. has almost no refining capacity for these metals, per Project Blue. China’s control of mining and processing gives it a strategic edge, especially since these materials have civilian and military uses.

⚡US tells EU: Pick Us or China. The U.S. is pressuring the EU to cut economic ties with China as a condition for a future trade deal and tariff relief. The overall US strategy is to decouple from China, and any country who wishes to have a trade deal with the US will also have to distance itself from Beijing. |
