EducationPolaris Bank Empowers School Girls In Abuja, Kano, Kogi by Wumirb(op):
In continuation of its commitment to empower the girl child in select public secondary schools, Polaris Bank, Nigeria's Best Digital Bank this week stormed the city of Kano, Abuja and Kogi to donate hundreds of school bags, uniforms, sandals, books and other educational items to indigent students.

Over the course of five days, officials of the Bank visited the Government Girls Secondary School, Kundila, Kano; the Junior Secondary School, Maitama, the Government Secondary School, Garki, both in Abuja; and the Fortune Schools International, Lokoja, Kogi State where they inspired the children to go give their best in school and not give up despite life challenges.

Speaking on the Bank’s commitment and its huge investment in the programme, Mr. Osazuwa Igbinoba, Polaris Bank's Group Head, North 1 & Abuja, who represented the Bank at both presetation events, said that the programme was one of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) interventions, and noted that over time, it has partnered with several NGOs on the project.

“This project is the Girl Child Education initiative. The aim of the Bank is to support the Girl Child in Nigeria by empowering them. In the last few years, we have partnered with the Evolve Charity, and we have been able to distribute educational materials all over the country.
“Polaris Bank is also a member of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative working with UNESCO to sustain education in third world countries. According to available research, Nigeria has about 10 million out of school children, of which six million of them are girls. So, for us as an organisation, we thought of how we can contribute our own quota towards reducing the number of out-of-school children, and that’s how we came about partnering on this project with Evolve Charity. And our aim is to empower 50,000 children in five years and that’s why we are here”
, Igbinoba said.

He disclosed that the programme, is in its third year, and has seen the distribution of vital educational items in schools in Lagos, Kano, Abuja and Kogi.

The Vice Principal Administration of Government Secondary School, Garki, Mrs. Onuoha Goodluck, thanked Polaris Bank for the donations, saying that it would help the children in many ways.
“Many of our children come from poor homes, where feeding is a problem, and paying school fees is even a bigger challenge for their parents”, she said. “Some of them are always ashamed to even bring out their school bags because of the state they are in. Now, with this initiative, you will see them in a different light from next week in their new bags, new school uniforms and new sandals. We thank Polaris Bank for this and for doing it yearly because they were here last year, and we saw the impact. May God bless you all.”

One of the beneficiaries, Fatima Kabir, a JSS3 student of Government Secondary School, Garki, said the gesture by Polaris Bank would aid her in her aim to become a lawyer in the future.
“I want to thank Polaris Bank because these school materials will assist me in my dream to become a lawyer and fight for justice for other girls,” said Kabir. “I know I can do it even though it will be hard, but with God and the support of others, it is possible.”
At the Government Girls Senior Secondary School in Kundila, Kano, the Polaris Bank team was welcomed by hundreds of excited students and teachers. They were happy to receive the items and cheered loudly when the beneficiaries were called out.

The Principal of the school, Aisha Shehu Yakasai, described the gesture from Polaris Bank as “timely and wonderful”.
“Our girls here struggle with getting to and from school because their parents have little money. Many carry their books in their hands and wear old uniforms, so these items are timely and wonderful. We are most grateful for this donation,” she said.

Speaking in the same vein, the Principal, Fortune Schools International, Lokoja, Kogi State, Mrs. Abu Omanyo Esther said "Our school benefited from this initiative last year and we are so elated to be among the beneficiaries again this year. The impact of providing these educational materials for this kids cannot be over-emphasised as without them, learning can become an uphill task. With a reported six million girl children out of school in Nigeria, all hands must be on deck to remedy the situation and this is why we thank Polaris Bank for this initiative”.

The Polaris Bank, Evolve Charity Girl Child Education school essential items presentation project train will be in Rivers and Imo states in the coming days.

Polaris Bank is digital-forward Bank dedicated to forging a customer-focused future through innovative partnerships that reshape individuals, businesses and communities.

EventsMalta Guinness Spreads Ramadan Goodness In Ajegunle-agege Community by Wumirb(op): 11:22am On May 05, 2023
Lagos, Nigeria - April 20, 2023 - Malta Guinness, Nigeria's leading non-alcoholic Malt Drink, has partnered with Lagos Food Bank, a Non-Governmental Organization that tackles malnutrition and food insecurity, to spread Ramadan Goodness through food and product donation worth millions of Naira to the Ajegunle-Agege Muslim women community of Lagos State as part of its 'Ramadan Choose Goodness' outreach.

The Choose Goodness outreach is coming off the back of the Malt brand’s donation of several cases of drinks, along with prayer mats, kettles, and other branded items to the Muslim Communities of five Universities across Nigeria, including the University of Ibadan (UI), Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), University of Lagos (UNILAG), University of Abuja (UNIABUJA), and University of Ilorin (UNILORIN).

No fewer than 200 cartons of food items with the inscription ‘Choose Goodness with Malta Guinness’ were distributed to hundreds of households during the outreach at the Ajegunle Agege community. The gesture, according to the Malt brand, is aimed at encouraging Muslim faithfuls to embrace sharing Goodness as a way of life both during and after the Ramadan season.

"At Malta Guinness, we are committed to bringing smiles and spreading goodness in our communities, and initiatives like this are a testament to our commitment to promoting goodness and making a difference in the lives of people" said Ife Odedere, Senior Brand Manager, Non-Alcoholics category, Guinness Nigeria. "We are delighted to have partnered with Lagos Food Bank to reach out to our Muslim consumers in the Ajegunle-Agege community and provide them with the nourishment they need during the fasting season”

"I am grateful to Malta Guinness for their generous outreach. This support has brought smiles to our faces and eased the burden of fasting during this Ramadan. May God Almighty bless the Malta Guinness brand and the Lagos Food Bank team," said Maryam Sambo, a beneficiary of the outreach.

As a brand known for encouraging positivity, vitality, and well-being, Malta Guinness continues to be a force for good in Nigerian communities. Through its Choose Goodness campaign, everyone, especially Muslims, were encouraged to make daily positive choices that better the lives of others and promotes goodness. The Social Responsibility initiative during Ramadan was a testament to that commitment.

BusinessDiscover Africa’s 1st Social Media Marketplace Taking All Petty Traders Digital by Wumirb(op): 1:05pm On Jan 10, 2023
Imagine a social media platform strictly for e-commerce businesses; LinkedIn meets Instagram Shop meets Facebook Marketplace. The Owlet app, dubbed Africa’s first social media marketplace, is an online community for businesses.

Users who sign up are treated to a digital storefront where they can sell their products to their followers, who are their customers. If they are content creators, then their content is their products.

The startup journey
Elijah Kolawole Olusehinde, the CEO of The Owlet Ltd, a digital product brand that includes the Owlet app, Owlet Online and Owlet P2P, initially started the company as Owlet Online in June 2020 to cater to the needs of entrepreneurs looking to meet new customers. Like many startups do, he started small with only two employees. The Owlet has expanded to over 108 employees across ten Nigerian states, with outposts in Ghana, Uganda, and Kenya, in just under two years.

Olusehinde’s mandate is clear; why go through the hustle and bustle of the physical market when you can meet your customers where they are, on the internet?

“After years of working in the market as a young child, I noted how inefficient physical markets are for buyers and sellers”

The Owlet CEO in an interview with Technext
“I watched elders and nursing mothers, who came to buy goods, struggle to manoeuvre around crowds of people. Nigerian markets are inconvenient, especially in Lagos, where overcrowding and transportation to and from the market are problems,” he added.

E-commerce has become a vital tech industry in the last decade. But regardless of this e-commerce boom in the industry, companies offering online marketplace services have struggled to attain profitability. However, Olusehinde said he doesn’t see those other businesses as competitors.

“Our aim as a company has always been to help people shop more conveniently while enabling businesses to make more sales than ever. With this core vision in view, we do not see any competitors,” he said.

Path to profitability
The Owlet has made huge strides, evident in some 20,000 transactions that the company said have been carried out on the app with over 70,000 vendors and 30 million orders since its launch two years ago.

“The Owlet was a personal project. Its funding came from my pockets. However, the company reached sustainability quickly and has since started expanding. We have not taken any additional investors/funding. This decision is because we do not want to distract ourselves, chasing profitability. We recently crossed 20,000 transactions on The Owlet App, and celebrated this milestone across our offices,” Olusehinde said.

Olusehinde and the owlet team didn’t achieve this by chance.

“Human beings are set in their ways. We struggled to get customers to use the product despite seeing how valuable our product was. Buyers did not see how they could casually shop food cooking items from the comfort of their homes and have them delivered safely. The sellers struggled to believe they could make more sales on our platform and build better customer relationships,” he said.

And so he went back to the drawing board to change the marketing strategy and then came in the results.

Plus, not many of the founders who have struggled to profitability in the e-commerce space have the experience that Olusehinde has, having grown up, as he said, in the market. He said that he knows that sellers have an appetite for this type of tech product to solve some of the problems they face.

“The market experience was not ideal for the sellers either. I saw how difficult it was for Nigerian businesses to get customers’ attention,” he said of his motivation to start the business. “Sellers shouted or blared loud music to attract attention and ran between shops, struggling to meet the demands of their customers. I established that the shopping experience in Nigeria could use a change, and that was how the idea for an online marketplace came along.”

Challenges
For a company that hasn’t raised money yet, Owlet has been undertaking massive in-person marketing campaigns, storming large markets preaching about the app, signing up businesses on the platform, and offering traders crash courses on bookkeeping.

“We changed our marketing approach early on,” he said. “We designed outreach teams to go out and help both parties (buyer and seller) to understand the value of The Owlet. They also helped them register their businesses and accounts and onboarded them. This tactic achieved significantly higher results,” he added.

Even then, profitability is still a very long journey. Currently, Owlet doesn’t take a cut from sales on its platform, like many other e-commerce companies. The startup makes money solely by charging vendors for targeted advertising on the platform.

The company is still just in its early stage and will have time to discover what its business strategy will be in the future. In the immediate, however, Olusehinde said that the plan is massive expansion across Africa by 2028.

Music/RadioFuji Vibrations Delivered Finest Fuji Music Like Never Before To Crowd Of 3000 by Wumirb(op): 3:54pm On Dec 13, 2022
Fuji: A Opera held its third edition of Fuji Vibrations on December 8, 2022, at Muri Okunola Park in Lagos, to a diverse group of distinguished guests.

The night featured different generations of Fuji artists serving up their distinct Fuji styles to the delight of the packed house. Technocrats, industry titans, media moguls, tech entrepreneurs, visual artists, socialites, influencers, music journalists, thrill seekers, and Fuji music aficionados made up much of the audience.

Jide Taiwo, the host, praised Fuji music as a globally recognised genre and attributed its success to grassroots influence; he also teased the quality of the night's lineup and promised the audience a night to remember.

The Queen of Fuji, Yeye Eniba, ushered in the night. She delivered a commanding performance that captivated the audience. Her stirring vocal prowess and quick dancing feet kept the audience glued to the stage as she slowly etched a mark on everyone's hearts.

Omo Aje Wasiu, one of King Wasiu Ayinde Marshall's (KWAM1) many protégés, delivered a performance that set him apart from the many who admire his music mentor. He exudes a welcoming calm, a command of his vocal that incites and excites, and the stage presence of a fully realised performance act.

Agba Awo Fuji is ten years old, has a band, and his backing vocals are performed by children his age. This young Fuji sensation held court and held his own, belting his voice and stretching his vocal cords like a pro. His quick rise to fame and the credibility of his act attest to the influence of Fuji music on young people and the genre's long longevity.

Awo Agba Fuji won the surprise performing act Instagram poll held by the Fuji: A Opera team to choose the final act for Fuji Vibrations.

Fuji represents fusion. The Maze Xtreme, a masked DJ duo, served up the Fuji sound via heart-pounding Electronic Dance Music (EDM) loops. They were the surprise act last year; this year, they earned their invitation by getting the guests up and dancing to familiar songs mixed with EDM for a sonic cocktail.

Sefiu Alao, also known as ‘Baba Oko’, delivered a memorable performance. His lyrics are heartfelt, illustrative, and singable, and his performance conveyed wise sayings, philosophy, vulnerability, and observations from daily life. Shefiu Alao is a fantastic performer.

Then there's Taye Currency. He understands how to rouse a crowd. To the teeming audience, his songs were as familiar as a door knock. They yelled, jumped, and screamed. He'd feign surprise at the crowd's recognition of him, and then he'd dish out songs on songs. As he performed, he walked down the stage, shaking the hands of guests who sang his songs word for word. Taye enthralled the audience, earning him an encore.

SK Sensation, president of FUMAN, ascended the stage with members of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria as they recited the Fuman anthem. He also expressed how excited the association was to collaborate with Fuji: A Opera on this edition and reassured support for future Fuji Vibrations editions. He told the audience how Fuji: A Opera came to be and spoke highly of the organisers.

Sk Sensation is a true Fuji artist. He took the stage and delivered a clinical performance that resonated with the crowd, which was eager to see KWAM 1 perform. In anticipation, his performance calmed and elevated the atmosphere.

Saheed Osupa would be a Fuji music teacher if he wasn't a brilliant Fuji musician, teaching the delicacies and niceties of the Fuji music genre in queens English. King Saheed Osupa, on the other hand, is a master lyricist, worshipper, and poet. His love for his creator is evident in his lyrics. He would frequently teach about the history of the music genre and humbly explain his place in the large family tree. Saheed Osupa is well-liked because he understands when to be vulnerable and when to brag; with evidence. He frequently falls to his knees in worship; he understands grace. You don't forget men who are both complex and simple.

Malaika is a fantastic musician and performer in KS1. His command of his band demonstrates his command of arrangement and cadence. Mr. Maliaka, we checked, must have a rotor on his waist that he twirls at the sound of his music. He's a master, a true professional. His success on TikTok and other social media platforms with the song Ose Olohon demonstrates his comfort with fame and long-term relevance.

Do2Dtun, celebrity hype man and Supa Komando ambassador, unveiled the new one-liter Supa Komando pet bottle before introducing the Mayegun of Fuji Music, K1 De Ultimate, the night's headliner. The hype man spoke about K1 De Ultimate's efforts to keep the Fuji music genre alive, which drew rousing applause from the crowd, which was still on their feet at around midnight.

The evening also marked the 50th anniversary of K1 De Ultimate performing on stage. Tosin Ashafa, executive producer of Fuji: A Opera, and Bobo Omotayo, Creator & Founder of Fuji: A Opera, presented K1 De Ultimate with a 'ICON Award' and expressed gratitude to the music legend for his unwavering support for Fuji: A Opera since its inception.

Fuji: A Opera organisers, sponsors, and Fuji musicians, along with K1 De Ultimate, posed for photos and cut a commemorative cake, which was cut at the spelling of FIFTY by over 3,000 guests at Muri Okunola Park.

K1 De Ultimate reaffirmed his unwavering support for Fuji: A Opera and bestowed fatherly blessings on the organisers. He prayed and assured the team of the support of Fuji musicians past and present.
K1 De Ultimate took the stage and sang his anthems. It started with a serenade and ended with a jive; he performed soulful Fuji music with music alphabets of Fuji that other acts had not explored. K1 De Ultimate is a consummate musician, a professional, and a vocal force to be reckoned with.

"Fuji Vibrations served as a reminder that the Fuji genre is still shaping popular culture and truly represents the best of indigenous Nigerian music. 3000+ people gathered in the heart of Lagos to celebrate music and its fascinating subculture "Fuji: A Opera was created by Bobo Omotayo. "But, more importantly, what we witnessed reminded us all that music can bring strangers together. These instances serve as reminders of Fuji's ability to unite people."

The night ended with Lagos vibrating in Fuchsia Pink Fuji prints created by guests in their own style and personality.
The visitors exited the park, chirping with anticipation of what the coming year would bring. What colour would be the theme for 2023, who would be the headliner, and so on?
Fuji: A Opera wishes to express gratitude to our sponsors, Goldberg Beer, Regal Dry Gin, and Supa Komando Energy Drink.
