All roads led to the offices of R&B Communications, Ikoyi, Lagos, last Thursday, as one of Nigeria’s preeminent communications agencies announced its 2020 Creative Partnership with Isaac Emokpae, one of Nigeria’s true jewels.​

Billed as first in a series of annual collaborations between R&B Communications and Nigeria’s foremost creatives, ‘The Idea Loom’ is Isaac Emokpae’s interpretation of the synergy between R&B Communications and its publics; a unique call for unison, harmony and sustainability in business.​

Speaking at the even­t, Isaac Emokpae des­cribed The Idea Loom as “homage to ideas; a celebration of thought and its power, which when properly weaved and harness­ed can achieve great and far-reaching co­nsequences.’

Adeoye Omotayo, Ex­ecutive Director, ex­plained that “R&B PR has enjoyed a very long, deep and meaningful relatio­nship with Nigerian arts, culture, film, music and entertain­ment over the years.​ We are therefore honoured to have top talent from this gr­owing sector treat our walls and our spa­ce as canvas for sho­wcasing the incredib­le work that they do­.”​

This weekend, Lagos will play host to one of football’s biggest superstars and Guinness Global Ambassador; Rio Ferdinand as he arrives Lagos for the Pan-African Finale of the Guinness Night Football campaign.

This will be Ferdinand’s third visit to Nigeria. He first came in 2018 on a two-day visit at the invitation of the then state governor Babatunde Raji Fashola. Ferdinand had the rare chance of meeting the traditional ruler of Lagos, King Rilwan Akiolu who bestowed on him the title of Chief 'Fiwagboye’ which means ‘character maketh wealth.’ He visited again in December 2018 in his role as an ambassador for Guinness.

The Pan-African Finale will also have celebrity artistes from across Africa – Sauti Sol of Kenya, Bebe Cool of Uganda, Salatiel of Cameroun as well as Ajara Njoya of the Cameroun Lioness – who will join our very own Davido on stage in a music and football fest like none ever seen before.

Over the last four weeks; footballers, fans and spectators alike have joined in the vibe to participate in a series of engaging and immersive night-time football events – all powered by Guinness. Football, music, games, experimental meals made with Foreign Extra Stout and body art have been some of the unforgettable highlights of these glow-in-the-dark events.

It’s been a beautiful experience for all involved. And the fun is set to continue at the Pan-African finale, which takes place on January 31st, 2020.

2019 has been intense on many fronts, especially with political and social uproar but all through the drama, music helped us blow off steam. Nonetheless, we live in a time where our incredible access to music is both a blessing and a curse. With more than 100 million hours of music available, choosing the best of the bunch can be difficult.

BellaNaija engaged famous rapper and Your Excellency star, Ikechukwu Onunaku, to assist with this festive dilemma. Ikechukwu took us through his favourite albums released during this eventful year.
In no particular order, see all his favourites.

African Giant – Burna Boy
Ikechwukwu says, “Burna Boy served an Afro-fusion masterpiece we didn’t even know we needed. The message from Burna here is, every black person should remember that we were Africans, before we became anything else.”

A Good Time – Davido
On A Good Time, he adds, “2019 has been a really good year for Nigerian music, and Davido’s album was one of the many reasons why. His charisma and delivery was smooth from start to finish; you should listen to this.”

ZANKU – Zlatan Ibile
On Zanku, he gushed, “Zlatan has to be the best newcomer in 2019, for the back to back banger he released. His talent is definitely one to watch out for.”

Laughter, Tears & Goosebumps – Fireboy DML
The number of artists to break out this year, is beyond mind-blowing. Each with a fresh perspective on how to make good music. I particularly enjoy how Fireboy DML infuses African harmonies with bits of country and soul. You don’t see stuff like that often.

Inglewood High – D Smoke
Inglewood rapper, D. Smoke, caught my attention for the first time on Netflix’s Hip Hop Series ‘Rhythm + Flow’. He raps in Spanish but reminds me of Kendrick Lamar. His multiple flows and introspective storytelling is the future of rap.

Street Gossip – Lil Baby
If you’re a big fan of hip-hop, you must be aware the Atlanta rap scene is extremely competitive. Rapper, Lil Baby, is one of the young rapper to cement his place as an Atlanta OG in 2019. I respect his art; the album is smoking hot.

Revenge of the Dreamers III – J.Cole
Finally, on Revenge of the Dreamers III, he says, “J. Cole’s compilation album is purely fireworks. Revenge of the Dreamers III is a school lesson on collaboration, every rapper needs to take notes from J. Cole. I loved the energy involved in this album.”

Schweppes has revealed the winners of #TakeYourSchhot, a photography challenge where consumers and budding photographers were encouraged to take creative images of their Schweppes can.

The competition ran from October to November 2019, and participants shared their images on Instagram and Twitter using the hashtag #TakeYourSchhot. More than 700 entries were submitted with some creatively capturing city scenery, embracing fulsome style, referencing art history and sometimes conveying social messages.

National treasure and veteran photographer Kelechi Amadi-Obi, was saddled with the task of reviewing all 700 entries. Schweppes posted his shortlisted top 10 images before the three most liked were announced as winners. The three winners; Chukwuma Okoye (1st), Uzor Ugoala (2nd) and Adetayo Adegoke (3rd) were awarded N500,000, N300,000 and N100,000 respectively.

The visual market is oversaturated with millions of photos shared daily on social media. It has become increasingly difficult for budding artists to get noticed. The Schweppes #TakeYourSchhot challenge encourages a new generation of creatives to take their ‘schhot’.

Baileys Delight took over Muri Okunola Park, Victoria Island, Lagos, on December 1st, for another edition of Nigeria's biggest baking festival, Baileys BakeFest. The one-day extravaganza showcased Baileys Delight as the ideal treat while demonstrating the many ways it can be enjoyed.

A Three Course Contest...
The highly anticipated bake-off between four teams of upcoming bakers paired with celebrities lived up to expectation. The three-round contest had participants in their separate booths whipping up tasty pies and tarts, delicious cocktails and the yummiest baked desserts within a given time limit.

Fun and Games...
While teams battled with oven mittens, guests rode the mechanical bull, and enjoyed mega jenga, snakes and ladders and tic tac toe. According to one of the guests, "Baileys BakeFest did not just give us yummy pastries and delicious cocktails, we also enjoyed music, fun and games. It was an all-round treat".

Party lovers enjoyed a taste of Nigeria’s biggest expressive tour in 2019 and we have the full lowdown. It was Parté after Parté, from Calabar to Abuja to Benin, with the Smirnoff X1 Tour!

Recently, Smirnoff X1 Tour served a neon-themed extravaganza in Benin city. Thousands of party lovers came out in droves, for the most lit party of the year. Internet boy wonder, Sydney Talker fired up the crowd with a dance challenge to kick off the show.

Dancers pocketed N300,000, branded headsets, T-Shirts, and wristbands. Imagine showing your special legwork at a party and leaving the show with cool cash and branded gifts – Ultimate cruise!!!

That was not all, the Benin crowd was also served Smirnoff cocktails all night, as Rap sensations, Erigga and Dice Ailes dished fire bars.
