HealthRe: Government Vows Not To Recall Sacked Doctors by xanchu: 12:00am On Aug 18, 2014
Ahan!!! This is cool!
Some wish they were doctors themselves to take the jobs, others wish doctors would die in hell, some say what about the hippo oath, and many more...
Its all good. Sacking +16,000 doctors is good. But does that solve the problem in the health sectorhuh No!!!!!!!!
The strike isn't all about money, although 5K for hazard allowance for a doctor is witchcraft and our doctors deserve better.
Let's all get a little more enlightened about issues before we comment on them.
Nigeria has the highest number of foreign doctors in america, the 2nd highest in Britain and so on...
More than half of our own trained doctors work in other countries and the few left are treated like dogs and house boys, yet we run our mouth like bats, saying rubbish.
Patience Jona went for 'appendectomy' outside the country, the easiest surgery to be performed by a doctor. Shows you GEJ doesn't give a hell about your own health. He'll travel out for check-ups and leave all Nigeria behind to fend for themselves.
Let's not think from our pudendal nerves, we don't eat from our anus. What is bad is bad!!! Senators can't get 128,000K for inconvenience allowance per month and a doctor would get 5k hazard allowance! That's madness!!!
And all nigerians see is wicked n greedy doctors, when doctors die from hospital acquired illnesses, will you cater for their familyhuh
Doctors are always and will always be welcomed in other countries, its not a big deal! They'll all leave the country for GEJ and 170Million nigerians to enjoy the wealth.
Let's see who suffers!
When U are sick, don't go n see a doctor! Stay @ home and die, because doctors are greedy. As if doctors won't eat and pay house rents too.
Yark!!!!!
Foolish people!
HealthRe: NMA Response To The F.G Directive by xanchu: 11:10pm On Aug 14, 2014
Employee fighting employer, FG cannot print money, blA Bla bLa!
We have our hands in deep shit and we rub our faces with them. With more than half of our indigenous/ nigeria-trained doctors working outside the country in other people's land and more than half of the less than half left is facing an illegal sack by the FG. We are here arguing about who'll win the fight. The masses are suffering and Nigeria hold the prestigious 2nd place in maternal & child mortality world wide. With ebola outbreak and an increase in this general mortality. Its an awesome time to leave.
Don't get me wrong, doctors are better taken care of outside this country and they are hardly denied visa and work permit to any country once they pass the licensing exam to practice there. Extra studies for few weeks and they are all out of this country for their good and then what! Mr Jona would treat the sick and Okonjo-iweala would operate on the injured.
HealthRe: FG Should Stop Doctors From Establishing Private Clinics by xanchu: 3:46pm On Jul 23, 2014
Its amazing for someone to say everyone owns a patient at certain point! Men!!! That hilarious and crazy, so the gate man owns the patient @ the gate and the porter owns the patient @ what point, where does the generator operator own the patient and where does the hospital cook own the patient? Where does the morgue attendant own the 'patient'. huh

Let all government officials take treatment in nigeria and all 'clinics and maternity (mortality centres) owned by nurses be closed down.

Its the choice of patients to decide who owns them in the hospital, therefore, since the hospitals are opened, the consultants in JOHESU can admit willing patients!

Last week a nurse injected herself bolus Intravenous Penicillin and went into shock.
Another nurse set an inverse intravenous(intra tissue) line for a few months old baby. If not for timely intervention, the hand would have been due for amputation. That's the skills that wants same salary as doctors.

In developed world, its visible to the blind and audible to the deaf, the disparity between all health workers, doctors and others in skills, level of training, duration of training and pay.

When JOHESU went on strike, they locked up all hospital equipments and doctors worked without complaining. Now doctors are on strike, left the hospital carrying only their heads on the shoulder which is rightfully theirs(I mean, na u get my headhuh) And JOHESU sues NMA to court. This clearly shows who owns a patient, who runs the hospital and who heads the team. As it is said, "strike the shepherd, and the sheep scatters". "Where the carcass is, the vultures gather"
Let's see sense into the truth and for once fight for the truth.
Let the nurses and their co JOHESU admit and manage patients. And let the doctors be put to shame by a decrease in morbidity and mortality rates.(If wishes were horses...huh)
HealthRe: Doctors’ Strike Cripples Hospitals Nationwide by xanchu: 11:09am On Jul 07, 2014
Nigerians might just be the dullest sets of educated people in the universe(apologia). If the doctors make a small fragment of health workers, why cry about the strike let other health workers run the hospitals, see the patients.
Please note that the title "CONSULTANT" isn't just a title. It depicts ownership of a patient, thus, all care given to the patient by any health worker must be recommended by the consultant, the ultimate outcome of the patient is his responsibility and the consequence of mismanagement is his to bear. Thus, if a nurse is called a consultant, she must see a patient on her own, clerk the patient, reach a diagnoses and recommend and request the actions of all other health personnel for the care of the patient. But nurses are not trained for such, they are trained to 'nurse' a patient. In other words, take care of, keep company, relief depression, clean up and cheer the patients. The CONSULTANT role is to be central in patients care, he knows everything the patient needs, he is the 'medical god' of the patient and he only calls on other health professionals where needed. This is a huge responsibility and NOT ALL doctors are consultants. This is because the rigorous training of residency requires self dedication to daily study and work, denial of family, friends and fun. After at least 5 extra years post medical school (6initial years), IF you paSs the exams, you can then be a consultant in a specialty annd sub specialty. So how come nurses and other paramedics simply wakes up overnight and wants the title "CONSULTANT" just because of the little allowances accrued it. It should be noted at this juncture that the total salary of a CONSULTANT in nigeria is less than a MEDICAL INTERN in America and UK and far less in Australia.
NMA fights for the sacredness of that title "CONSULTANT" not because of itself but because of the Patients. I say this because upon assumption of CONSULTANCY by other paramedics, they too would own patients in the hospitals I.e, patient would be admitted under their names and consultant doctors won't attend to such patients.
Please, let us reason this out, because, one day, it might just be you who is that Patient with acute abdomen secondary to typhoid ileal perforation that would see the CONSULTANT nurse and when sugery isn't performed at the appropriate few hours you have left, death is imminent.
A word is enough for the wise! Selah!
HealthRe: NMA Strike Ends On Monday, Says Health Minister by xanchu: 10:37am On Jul 07, 2014
Please guys, we should always reason out things before we speak. NMA hasn't gone on 'too many strikes' because I can't remember the last NMA strike. Secondly, in western would, foreign nurses get jobs easier than foreign doctors not because of relevance of certificates but because doctors decide how and when a life ends, putting him in a more god-like position that requires careful selection of those that fill in that position. Doctors have to write another 3-step exams or more than that to practice abroad in the US. Even at that, nigeria has the second largest number of foreign doctors in the UK and many more of such across the world. From statistics more than half of nigerian-born and nigerian made doctors work outside the shores of this country. And that's not because the rest can't go, but because of their love and empathy for our fatherland. If this love and empathy is abused. Am afraid we would have nurses and other paramedics running the public hospitals here. But u see, more than half of nigerian nurses are not Bsc nursing holders. They went to nursing training schools, not a university and thus, are not qualified nurses who can work outside nigeria. Perhaps let's look into NMA's claim, where has a court clerk/legal assistant sort the post of Minister of justice and Judge in the courthuh, where has a non academic staff sort the post of Vice Chancellorhuh, where has a medical doctor sort the post of chief of army staffhuh Where has an Engineering assistant sorted the post of chief Engineer of a statehuh Where have you seen an accountant as the Surveyor-general of a state. Every sector of the country is intertwined in rendition of service. E.g a doctor works as an army officer but has never been the Chief of army staff, he is a suPport staff there. So support staff in the hospitals are can not be chief medical director(COMMAND), a pharmacist is a pharmacist anywhere in the wide world, why must nigerian pharmacist crave the title of 'doctor' this is an aberration, everyone should know their place and if place aren't good enough, go to school and study your new love profession. You can't eat you cake and another person's own. You must be a witch!!!
This issue has been on for a long time, its more than meets the eye. Doctors in nigeria overwork and don't get paid for it, doing a lot of selfless things all for the good of the patient and if these patients don't see anygood in them, well am afraid what'll become of the system. The same JEHOSU members who are 'more' important than doctors still come to the clinics themselves with their relatives begging for kinder attention and assistance. You can't bite the finger that feeds you.
Let's privatize the health system, afterall, the government hasn't done its obligation of providing cheap medical services. Then, everyone in the sector would know his/her true positions and either work or leave.

HealthRe: JOHESU Press Release on the NMA STRIKE by xanchu: 11:37am On Jul 05, 2014
a leb tech, nurse or pharmacist can have a PhD or professorship in their field, they are still support staff in the hospital, dts it, the head of the hospital is a medical doctor, if any want to head it, they should go n study medicine. A professor of medicine can work in the Army, there, he is a support staff n would never one day seek the position of the "chief of defense staff or chief of army staff". He knows his position(support staff) n stays there. Have u ever seen a clerk in the court wanting to be the chief judge?? Or a Man-servant in the roman catholic church seek the post of a bishop simply because he is as 'holy'? Have u seen a civil defense corp member wanting to take the lead in the war-front ahead of an army officer? Its only in the health sector that support staff wants to head the hospital.
And perhaps, being a consultant means, u have full responsibility over a patient, from admission to discharge and would face the consequences of the outcome, that's what I entails. Tell me what a consultant nurse would do? Or a consultant pharmacist or a consultant Lab technician? They seek this title because of the allowance thereof!
A medical doctor goes through at least 5 years training after his initial 6years + X in the medical school to become a consultant! Where is that training structure in JEHOSUhuh A neurosurgeon trains for almost 10yrs after medical school to be able to operate on the human head and a nurse wants same pay with him! Nigerians!!!! Nothing more! Its pertinent to note that, if the general public and government accedes this quest of JEHOSU, patients MUST be shared among all consultants in the hospital as is the practice now. So, whenever u are sick, u'll eaither see a consultant lab technician/pharmacist/nurse/porter/ etc instead of a doctor or a doctor if u are lucky. Doctors are honorable people, they are the only staff of the health sector that don't run shifts! They work all day and all night. All other support staff as JEHOSU claims work only 8hrs per day. They run shifts n want to earn as much as a doctor. One doctor works the time equivalent to 5shifts a nurse when he is on call. Thus, he works with 5 different sets of nurses before he goes home. And these nurses wants similar pay! Haba. E.g a doctor who is on call goes to work 8am like nurse 1, works till 2pm when another nurse 2 takes over shift and works again till 6pm when nurse 3 comes for night duty, he works overnight call till 8am the next day when nurse 4 comes and continues till 2pm when nurse 5 comes for her shift and he finally leaves work by 6pm when nurse 5 closes for the day. if not for the stress n longevity of medical school, what about this work time differencehuh? Why do we deceive ourselves in nigeria!!! A nurse then compares herself to a doctor as samehuh Dts the simple definition of witchcraft!!! Let's settle the health sector issue, let's privatize the Helath sector or simply adopt the pay systemt of the americans ( if the government can pay that much). The salary of an medical house officer in america is more than a consultant physician in nigeria. For facts, please search on google, "the top 10 paying jobs in america" doctors are numbers 1 to 9, from different specialties. It might interest u to know that more than half of the doctors graduated from nigeria medical schools are currently working outside the country, Nigeria has the 2nd largest number of foreign doctors in the UK and so on. These are facts, google and see for ur self. Please! Let's wake up and redefine the terms and conditions of employment of all medical personnels, doctors and non doctors! Whoever doesn't want to work should go n be a consultant in his own backyard.
