PoliticsSoldier Sent To Death Over Mutiny Speaks Up by Xhammy(op): 12:33am On Dec 20, 2014
A heartbreaking development of the story
about the soldiers’ mutiny, which was
followed by the severe court punishment.
It would be recalled that the military court,
on December 17, sentenced 54 soldiers to
death over mutiny.
The convicts attached to the 7th Division of
the Nigerian Army in Maiduguri, disobeyed
orders to join operations against Boko Haram
on August 4.
They were accused of conspiring to commit
mutiny against the Division authorities.
Lawyer and human rights activist, Femi Falana
(SAN), expressed shock over the court
verdict saying:
“Instead of bringing such unpatriotic officers
to book, the military authorities have
engaged in the diversionary tactics of wasting
the lives of innocent soldiers by sentencing
them to death without any legal justification.”

One of the convicted soldiers used
his Facebook account after the sentence
announcement to post this heartbreaking
message.
Fahat Fahat, soldier sentenced to death over
mutiny
“Hello ladies and gentlemen. I am soldier and I
am sentenced to death by the Nigerian Army.
(be)Cause we did not go to fight Boko Haram
without equipment. We ask for weapon
instead (they) gave (us) death sentence.”

"Even though I have said it time and time again
that the president should control his wife but
there
is something significant about Mr. President.
He is the first president without any ties to
the
military mafia. All his children are in schools
here
in Nigeria. You cannot come across a
skyscraper in
any corner of Nigeria and people will tell you it
belongs to him; even a seven storey building.
I strongly believe that GEJ is a phenomenal
change
from before and if we cannot find a better,
young
alternative, then we must remain with him until
we
can groom someone better.
This is no time to go back to the military
mafia
and go back to our vomit"

PoliticsGEJ Promise To Link The 36 States In The Country By Rail If He Is Re-elected by Xhammy(op): 11:38pm On Dec 02, 2014
President Goodluck Jonathan has promised
to link the 36 states in the country by rail if
he is re-elected in next year’s Presidential
elections.
The incumbent President made the statement
while speaking at the 17th Honorary
International Investment Council (HIIC)
meeting in London.
Jonathan stated that the rail network would
boost the economy and reduce the pressure
on roads and highways.
He acknowledged that no meaningful
development can take place without
addressing the challenges in the rail sector.
According to him, with adequate rail
coverage, the roads and highways will be
better maintained.
He said: “If we do not link state capitals by
rail, our roads will not last.’’

PoliticsFayose Awarded N200m Repainting Contract To Brother -APC by Xhammy(op): 12:57am On Nov 17, 2014
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State has
accused Governor Ayodele Fayose of awarding
the repainting of the Governor’s Office to his
“blood brother” at the cost of N200m.
It also accused the governor of awarding a
contract to put marble in front of the
Government House, which he (Fayose) had
earlier described as too expensive; and relaying
of asphalt on an already asphalted road leading
to the lodge.
In a statement by the State Publicity Secretary,
Taiwo Olatunbosun, on Sunday, the APC said,
“To add salt to injury, artisans working on the
marble are all imported from Ibadan, when many
Ekiti artisans could do the job. This a man who
claims to be a friend of the masses.
“He is repainting the Governor’s Office,
awarded by direct labour at the cost of N200m
awarded to his blood brother.
“He told the Permanent Secretary, General
Administration Department and Head of Service
to find alternative entrance for civil servants,
who work within the Governor’s office building
because he doesn’t want to be meeting the
‘evil servants’ while coming in at the main
entrance.
“This has been effected as civil servants in the
Governor’s office now pass through the back to
their offices. Yet this is the class of people he
professed to be their friend before the election
and he has also cancelled the appointment of
eight permanent secretaries that were legally
appointed after passing necessary examinations
according to the service rules.”
Fayose, who, however, spoke through his Chief
Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, denied
awarding the repainting contract to his brother
as alleged by the APC.
Adelusi said the contract was awarded to an
indigenous firm and the owner is not a brother
to the governor.
He also denied the allegations that the marble
contract was awarded to a non-indigenous firm.
“We are not like APC that pauperised the people
for the four years. All the contractors handling
the job including the marble are from Ekiti.
They are, however, free to source their
materials from anywhere in and outside Ekiti,”
Adelusi added.
Olatunbosun, who also alleged that Fayose had
not kept to his promise to give better life to
the people, regretted that while it was the
standard practice in other states to celebrate
their governors after a month in office, the
experience in Ekiti State was that of gloom,
anger, frustrations and disappointment by the
people.

Foreign AffairsNelson Mandela, Anti-apartheid Icon And Father Of Modern South Africa, Dies by Xhammy(op): 10:56pm On Dec 05, 2013
Nelson Mandela, the revered statesman who emerged from
prison after 27 years to lead South Africa out of decades of apartheid,
has died, South African President Jacob Zuma announced late
Thursday. He was 95.
The former president battled health issues in recent months, including
a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.
With advancing age and bouts of illness, Mandela retreated to a quiet
life at his boyhood home in the nation's Eastern Cape Province, where
he said he was most at peace.
Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the
nation's consciousness.
