PoliticsRe: Finance Act Will Stimulate Nigerian Economy — Osinbajo by Xuxu208: 6:45am On Feb 05, 2020
MumuCountry:
The issue really is not about the size of GDP. That is how nigerian leaders have been deceiving nigerians since Lord Lugard’s time. Nigeria’s economy is rent-based because it derives most of its revenues from oil. Nigeria is not a production-driven economy.

Given the level of corruption that exist in Nigeria, it is easy to conclude that substantial part of this so-called huge GDP could just be in the pockets of a few individuals. Individuals like IBB, Obasanjo, Danjuma, Atiku, Tinubu, Goodluck etc these are the people with Nigeria’s GDP in their pockets.

Life is not only about GDP. It also about life expectancy, access to electricity, jobs, personal security, good roads, potable water, quality education, food security etc etc etc

What is the point in having the largest GDP when all you see around you is poverty?
"Given the level of corruption that exist in Nigeria, it is easy to conclude that substantial part of this so-called huge GDP could just be in the pockets of a few individuals." Very well said! As for the sentence in quote, "is" and not "could just be" is the appropriate word....You're certainly one of the very few critical thinking people on this forum.....

Nigerians supporting Trump are either misinformed or deluded.

Trump is not your friend, he is a white supremacist and racist.
Most Africans and people of African permanently live in a state of cognitive dissonance and denial when it comes to issues of racism, hence they will willfully ignore the statement of fact you made despite its truthfulness....smh

Insecurity is the main reason.

All thanks to those idiots that were burning USA flag all because of one Iranian general that didn't even know they existed.

Do you know what it means to burn the USA flag?
The implication??

Imagine you see someone burning your company flag, then the next week, a relation of that person that burns your flag comes for employment.

Would you grant him employment?? not to talk of even allowing him step foot or get closer to the company's gate.

It means terrorists.

Some of us don't know we have USA citizens here on nairaland. They monitor and read everything Nigerians say about the US.

Nigeria should even be the NO 1 country that shouldn't be granted visa by the US embassy.

Some idiots and retard we shared this country with are the cause of all these.

The president should have arrested those people burning the USA flag. unlike when you see an APC member burning a pdp flag or pdp burning brooms.

We need a leader that has vision.

Say no to Tribalism.

Tribalism is dangerous to progression.

Our leaders have failed us.
Yeah, Americans who burn their flags must also be terrorists, or maybe you don't even know that they are allowed to and do do that?SMH

Nigeria is definitely going to be on that list forever .. we don’t have a centralized identity management system .. any Fulani herdsman , terrorist , murderer or armed robber can commit a crime in Kano serve his time or pay his way out and move to lagos to start life over .. there is no way for the US to verify his criminal background when he is applying for an immigrant visa .. and the Bunch of Nigerians adjusting status in the US, after biometrics , can only have the FBI reports of their activities since arrival in the US and not their criminal activities while they were in Nigeria which is also very important. We have a long way to go. We have fingerprints from Bvn, NIMC, drivers Licence , voters card ,passport , yet no centralized identity system . Commit a crime in Chicago and run to Texas , as long as you have your finger prints taken at any point it’s only a matter of time before you are caught ... can we say same for Nigeria
Yeah, and I'm sure Nigeria is the only country in the world that lacks a so-called centralized identity management system. and I'm also sure every single criminal in the US is sitting behind bars.....SMH

[quote author=otherway post=81208436]If you have work permit then you go work tire cos work full everywhere if you are not too picky.

After tax you can have like £1500 which is the average earning after tax.

You will have savings of £500 every month after all expenses if you are not a waster.

And ofcourse many earn over £1500 after tax. So compare to Naija after expenses wettin go remain that is even if you earn enough to meet up your expenses.[/quote

Can you tell us what kind of work and in which part of the UK one can earn this kind of money after tax?

At the end of the day my conclusion is that traveling out to seek greener pasture elsewhere is a temporary solution. Because I found out most Nigerians that left the country at some point are hoping and yearning that Nigeria work so they could return. In fact significant number are returning. But occasionally with bad experience on returning. So, the "demon" we are all running away from is "sitting on the bench at home" waiting for us. Until we all.stop running and face our problem head-on, we are only fooling ourselves. I went around Lagos in last few days and my conclusion is that the weakest links are the government/public officials and docile masses who choose not to question their government. In the affluent areas I see new businesses and structures that were not there when I visited some years back. But in the slum part of Lagos, specifically on the core Lagos Island, nothing has changed. In fact things have deteriorated even more with hoardes of idle youths, inaccessible roads, terrible sanitary conditions. Surprisingly in all.of these, people seem to be catching their fun as if its all normal. We Nigerians have a terrible tolerance level that it's getting suicidal.
Very well said! I couldn't have put it better.....smh

@Op

The truth has been said.

Many Nigerians start out with menial jobs, but with determination and hard they dont remain there for long.

My Uncle who started out as a taxi driver is a CEO today and a mansion in Gerogia in the USA doing so well with his first son playing in the NFL, he laughs at the days he was a taxi driver. Don''t let your humble beginning despise you.

Nonetheless, You can still live a good life here in Nigeria. Hard work and Prayer is needed wherever you go. Just make the best of life while you have it.

Good luck.
Care to tell us exactly where he is a CEO?

Leaving Nigeria has been the best decision I ever made. I only wish I left earlier.
I never get papers, but I'm balling hard. Making nothing less than 4000$ every month. I work 12 hours (6 times a week )My expenses every month isn't more than 1200$. This amount isn't near what I hope to be making once my papers land. It's almost here. Definitely going back to school...

If you want to hussle in the states, you must be hardworking and willing to do overtime .Start exercising before you come, that way the job won't be hard on your muscles lol. I don't see my job as hard though. Choose the right state. Forget the big states for a start. JOBS plenty where I dey.. Question is;you get the energy to work?
Is this amount before or after tax? And care to tell us what you do and in what city and state so we can verify?

all that you have mentioned, blacks or Nigerians in those countries or anywhere in the world do receive far more worse treatments than this. its called do me i do you....as long as my papers are complete, why should i lick your ass because your country issued me a visa.

STOP BEING A SLAVE TO THE WHITE MAN...AM NOT SAYING CAUSE TROUBLE OR BE DISRESPECTFUL but all you have mentioned is a far worse norm that blacks and Nigerians get in return.
Don't expect any better; most Africans and people of Africa descent after centuries of physical & mental slavery, denigration, dehumanization, miseducation and disinformation by their white masters, have low self-worth, low self-esteem, and a massive inferiority complex.

The irony... These same foreigners walk around freely in Naija and no law enforcement agent bothers them about papers or immigration status... They even have their pick of the prettiest among our ladies to defile whenever they like...

Imagine being in a country where I have to ensure all immigration papers are intact and upon my person before even stepping out of my front door to stretch... Such dehumanization.
Exactly, but whose fault is that if not that of Nigerians themselves? Why do they still treat these people like demi-gods despite being treated with contempt by them?

Exactly, never ceases to amaze me how people on here make untrue statements that end up receiving many likes...Don't people read any more in Naija? The level of ignorance is just mind boggling......smh
