Award winning Nigerian writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has received an honorary degree from the prestigious Duke University in Durham, North Carolina.

She was among the few recipients of the honorary degree from the university and they were all described as “people making changes in the world in very extensive ways.”

The President of Duke University, Vincent E. Price, had earlier in March confirmed that the’’ Americanah’’ author was on the list of recipients. Adichie received the award alongside Marry Bara, Chairman of General Motors, Phil Freelon, lead architect for the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

Other recipients were: Former Durham Mayor William Bell, Dr. William Kaelin, professor of medicine at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and Russell M. Robinson II, attorney, community leader and philanthropist.

Xycinews media news men did a survey and investigation and found out that over twelve (12) students have died of different means for the 2018 academic year. All their full names and date of incidence could not be collected, so if you know any, please comment and we would update this article with your information.


Below is a very brief summary of our Top5 painful stories how Uniport students died.


1 The most viral and rampant one is the onset story of Aluu four jungle and inhuman killing. The victims were Ugonna Obuzor, Toku Lloyd, Chiadika Biringa and Tekena Elkanah. They were all Uniport students who died in the hands of unjust brutal mobs under false accusations. The video was and is all over the internet, if you lack a hard heart, please don't dare watch. That incident happened on 5th October. It our number.

2 The painful death of Okene Desmond which occurred on the 3rd of Saturday. Our news men gathered that he was a year one
student who just got admission into Linguistics and Communication Studies, he death was because he lost balance along the Aba Road Express High way while skating, he was smashed by an oncoming truck.
He died in few hours time at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

3 Next is the sad news of Year four student of Pharmacy named Francis Nmaemeka Okonkwo. Francis is only 29 years old.
He death was a very painful one as he was reported to have slumpped, fell and became unconscious before dying just a day after his birthday 28/06/1989 and died on 29/06/2018. So sad for this young generation star. �

4 Name and academic information still unknown, another student was reported to have fallen from the school most used building, one of the oldest. Sitting on the brime, he fell over three stories, Xycinews media would love you to kindly comment on this for the clarity.

5 Lastly is the most current and bloody story of four death at a spot. Blessing Igoni is a Biochemistry student of the University of Port Harcourt. She went in a ride along with her dear friend on the bike � of a Power Biker. The bike was so so fast, I ran into a passerby and immediately had his legs cut out. Also, Blessing Igone and her friend died at the spot as well.

Xycinews Media: Truly, the competitors for the Tell Em' award was quite much, but what made you persistent in continuing?

Menezy: I was excited when I saw the advert for the competition and subsequent job. I accepted the challenge with a primary goal to hone my skills. I didn't know the level of talent of the other competitors, so i couldn't figure out if i stood a chance to win or not. But i was ready to put in my best.


Xycinews Media: So how does this achievement make you feel?

Menezy
Menezy: I feel good in my bones. I'm super excited but there is still a lot of work to do. Rome was not built in a day.



Xycinews Media: Such a wise proverbs.

Menezy: 'Smiling'. Yeah, It quite logical.


Xycinews Media: Some persons claim programming is really really complex, what your say on that?

Menezy: If i say Programming or software development is easy, i would be a Liar. It's hard but anyone with passion for technology can learn & master it. It may appear mysterious to the humble beginner but becomes clearer when one invests his time learning it.

Xycinews Media So, what are some of the few things you have invested?

Menezy: "Smiling". Well that quest is lovely. I have spent huge unregreatable amount of the Nigerian currency, as well as others in downloading and buying online study classes, books, applications and even tutorials.

Xycinews Media: That spirit is great and a rare one. So how large are these files your talking about?

Menezy: I have over 500Gb of downloaded files.


Xycinews Media: O My God. So how do you sleep?

Menezy: I believe in resting the brain, and not wasting the night sleeping lazily.


Xycinews Media: When and where did you start your programming?

Menezy: I started learning how to code in January 2017 with New Horizons computer learning centre: A world class training institute with Headquarters in New York City. I bagged an advanced diploma in web design and development at the end of the course. Shortly after being certified in web design & development, i joined Rudigo, a software talent accelerator in Port-Harcourt in August 2017. I learnt Frontend web Development during my stay at Rudigo. It was quite a military grade experience. In February 2018, I got another opportunity to advance my career with FavCode54, a Sans Francisco based software company with a mission to train the next generation of African software Developers. I decided to study backend web development at FavCode54.

At the end of the programme, I'd hopefully metamorphose into a Full stack Developer. Less than one month into my training at FavCode54, a partner company, Tell em' opened a job opportunity to a talented FavCoder who could fix a bug in a web application. The link to the repo on GitHub was shared and a lot of Developers accepted the challenge. I joined the contest, did my best and pushed back my codes. A week later or so, the entry was closed and the time arrived for the winner to be selected.

Xycinews Media: So interesting

Menezy: "Laughs" Well, Hopes were high, expectations were supreme. But i never thought I had a chance at winning the contest. I was surprised to receive a call from Felix, CEO of Tell em', all the way from Texas, USA. He complimented my work and asked some relevant questions which I honestly answered.

Later in the day, the winner was announced. I won the competition and landed my first Developer job in a fear inspiring way. My joy knew no bounds. It was a perfect reward for my hard work served like a chilled glass of water on a hot day.

Despite the fact that i attended computer institutes where coding was taught, I also had to do a lot of self study. So I'm somewhere between a self taught and bootcamp trained Developer.

World wide, the name Red Cross is well know for their hard work in Quick response to Emergencies, Fighting against sexual violence, Voluntary Humanitarian Activities, Restoring Family link, First Aid service and also, it Neutral Stand.

In the Nigerian Red Cross Society, there Port Harcourt Division lies, and in the Port Harcourt Division lies four detachment.

This article entails the details and coverage of the Nigerian Red Cross Dinner
and Award Night Event held by the University of Port Harcourt Detachment (Uniport Detachment).

For every diligent and voluntary hard worker, there is certainly a reward for appreciation. After weeks of hard work and team co-operation, a set up team started a big project of rewarding Patrons, Metrons, Excos and supporting members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Uniport Detachment. This event took place on the 23rd of February, 2018.

I just don't know

This Is My Real Story Today.
Boarding an old iron danfo bus from Summit Bus Stop, Delta State.
I sat on discomforting foam called "seat", my destination was Onitsha Bus Stop.
As a happy and cheerful extrovert, I broaden my lips with smiles over the River Niger Bridge.
After a 5 minutes drive, the planned trickster (The conductor) and his admin officer (The driver) claimed never to have little dominition of the Naira currency. The entire passengers were left confused and perplexed.

All the while, the conductor still feigned a display of hard work.
Then, with my soft heart, I remitted N500*4 amounting to N2000. Then my disaster and frustration began.
I was given N1000*2 amounting to N2000.
My demeanor was enthusiastic, I walked majestically to Onitsha Park to board a bus with PeaceMass Transport.
I stretched my cleaned N2000 Note and paid for my fair, waiting for my receipt, the cashier said, "Mtcheeeeeeeew" and tore my money into pieces of inconsiderate atom.

The it came to my notice i have being given fake currency money, it was counterfeit.
I became raving, crazy, frustrated, my thinking we're wolly, what am I seeing? Was it Bollywood, Nollywood or Hollywood in my tiny cerebrum.
300 seconds ago, I was a happy traveller, but now i was cashless.
Over 2Hours I wandered on Onitsha like it was my "rag day thole gift".
Then everyone claimed to pity me with words when I wanted monetary support. Only Then I trek a 15 minutes journey to loan from a stranger who felt my pains.

Now my big question was
Are the Igbos born to cheat others in the name of smartness?

Would such painful experience not ignite prejudice?

Would others be able to notice fake money and be freed from counterfeits?

Would fake currency producers be caught and face the law soonest?

With the urgency of event, Our News Men arrived at the pre assigned location of BEA 2018 Scholarship Venue for south south candidates which was Bishop Demiere Grammar School (BDGS) Bayelsa.

There we found over Twenty 20 candidates whom were once eager and anticipating standing frustrated, confuse, and bored out.
The reason being, they ignored checking the Nigerian Federal Government Website for latest news and update about Change of venue and more, they were from very far places like Calabar, Port Harcour, Abia, and a few from Delta (All states in nigeria) , So sad all have to leave for the newly assigned location OKPANAM Road, By NTA Junction Asaba, Delta.

NOTE: The previous update was that the interview would run from February 19th to 23rd.
But it now from the 23rd to 24th February 2018.
But before participating, all candid
ates would be screened on the 22nd and qualified ones would participate.
