I was enveloped with utter amazement and disbelief at the baseless sentiments being peddled on this forum by members of the opposition, that the recent US trip embarked upon by President Buhari was entirely fruitless and a waste of resources. That assertion could have been correct and be categorized as a product of sanity if not for the following facts:

1. PMB honoured an invitation.

The first point to note President Buhari did not just embark on the trip for sightseeing or primarily to go and seek for weapons, but the visit was in honour of President Barrack Obama’s invitation on the strength of our president’s local and international goodwill. Thus international goodwill is as a result of the president’s acclaimed integrity, discipline and incorruptibility. This goodwill largely accounted for the way Buhari and his entourage were accommodated in Blair’s House, which serves as a site for “American Diplomacy” during the visit. This shows the esteem with which Buhari is held on account of this goodwill considering the fact that previous visiting Nigerian leaders never had such luxury treatment.

2. External Support for Policy Formulation & Execution

Indeed international partners had a rare opportunity to engage Nigeria on a new beginning given the fact that ministers are yet to be appointed and key policies are still being worked out, their input would definitely contribute to the shaping of this new governments policies, which would also make it more likely that we will have their full support in the execution of such policies. The input from potential investors and Biz executives at the recent meeting with Buhari in Washington is a case in point.

3. Diplomatic Ties

There are also diplomatic consequences of the visit. It has the prospect of strengthening diplomatic relations of both countries. Obama has never visited Nigeria in his almost eight-year-tenure. This is not best for the image of Nigeria as the greatest black African Nation. Buhari’s visit may have provided a convenient platform for Obama to reciprocate the gesture by undertaking a visit to Nigeria in no distant future.

4. Recovery of Foreign Loot
Nigeria also requires assistance in retrieving stolen wealth stashed in some American commercial banks or covert agencies. There are strong indications and suggestions that some of these loots have been deployed in the purchase of expensive and expansive estate in Washington D.C. and its environs particularly the State of Maryland. As a result of this visit, the United States said it will assist Nigeria in locating and returning funds stolen by corrupt government officials.

5. Re-enforcement of Anti-Gay Stance

President Buhari on this U.S trip, re-emphasized that Nigeria's Anti-sodomy legislation stands and will not be repealed as it goes against the culture and morals of Nigerians. President Buhari's refusal to compromise on this stance has been applauded by Nigerians far and wide.

The expectation is that the president’s latest visit to the US has marked a good beginning for the realisation of Nigerian’s vast potential. As noted by Obama, Buhari came into the office with a reputation of integrity and a clear agenda on corruption and Boko Haram insurgency including fixing the economy and infrastructure, therefore I call on members of the opposition to realize that months of wailing will not return Jonathan, so they should join hands with all Nigerians to achieve these objectives for the betterment of our nation.

Tompolo and co now realized that there is MEND...When the clueless one was there and oil money was flowing to them, they claimed MEND was dead and forgotten. Now which MEND are they calling for? These guys never fought for the Niger Delta, they only fought for their business. Where is the infrastructural evidence to show the so called struggle, even after 6 years of an ijaw man's presidency? The Niger Delta is not better off, even after the armed struggle and amnesty. They cannot go back to the armed struggle anymore as it will not be business as usual. They are simply bunch of criminals who should be behind bars in a sane and normal society; unfortunately Nigeria is an insane and abnormal clime!

It should not and does not imply that Ndigbo
as a group support the Broadcasts. Nnamdi
Kanu and his group have never told Ndigbo at
any forum what he is doing with their name.
The Igbo nation is too big for anybody to take
them for granted.
