Samantha125: As a foreign national on this forum, I'm curious to know what is considered an ideal dowry in your tribes in Nigeria... And for those who are married, I'd like to know how much dowry did you guys pay for your wives and same goes for ladies, how much did he also pay for you?
I'd also like to see other Nigerian tribes participate, it can't always be the Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, and Fulanis.
Hello Samantha. Welcome back. Among the Egbema, bride price is distinct from what is done traditionally in the course of marriage. The groom sends his people with a few palm wine jars to his would-be in-laws in what is called mai akpo ife afa (drink in which mission is not disclosed) . Thereafter what we call first, second and third visits follow in which the in-laws (groom's family) send various nuptial items ranging from drinks of different brands, cigarettes, clothes, etc of varying quantities as specified for the various stages. This varies from village to village. After the 3rd visit is the bride price, which might range from as little as 50 NGN to 500k NGN. It'smainly negotiated in monetary aspect. Pride price of 500k NGN is very rare indeed. In effect, the entire cost of visit items and the pride price might not sum up to 1m NGN. The main source of fund leakage is the marriage ceremonies proper (Traditional and white weddings) which may differ according to the taste of the couple.
TheBreastSucker: Before I can give you an answer I have to suck your breasts first so as to properly evaluate the value of the 'assets' you are bringing into the marriage
GistMedia0: A United States citizen married to a Nigerian woman has taken to social media to express deep frustration over the challenges he’s facing in trying to acquire Nigerian citizenship and a passport, despite being legally married and having Nigerian children.
In a video making rounds online, the man, who is currently in the U.S., questioned what he described as a “double standard” in Nigeria’s immigration and citizenship process. According to him, his research online shows that when a Nigerian man marries a foreign woman, she becomes eligible to apply for a Nigerian passport almost immediately. However, the reverse doesn’t apply when a Nigerian woman marries a foreign man.
"Why is it that if a Nigerian man marries a foreigner, the wife gets her passport, but if a Nigerian woman marries a foreigner, he has to live in Nigeria for 15 years before even being considered eligible?" he asked.
The footage also shows him holding up the Nigerian passports of his wife and their children, further emphasizing his point that he is already family and committed to Nigeria by blood and marriage.
He lamented that the process appears discriminatory and questioned whether the information he found online is truly accurate or if there are exceptions. “Why me?” he repeatedly asked, hoping that what he read isn't entirely true and that there could still be a path forward for him.
Oga, Nigeria is a patrilineal country. So, a man married to a foreigner is considered as one of us, he brings his family home, so his wife is given automatic citizenship. A woman married to a foreigner leaves Nigeria to her husband's country, this time the US. You are lucky they gave your children passports.
ObosiLandlord: Ndume you're quiet throughout Buhari s tenure, I wander why you're just finding your voice. Tinubu should also know he's the president of Nigeria, not the president of Yorubas. Yorubas vote alone can't make him the president. There are competent people all over the country
Please, let Yorubas chop. It's turn by turn. Fulani/Hausa had field day when Buhari was in office. No one spoke out. If I were Tinubu, only my kinsmen will rule with me till I hand over. If I fail, we fail. If I pass, we pass. That's what leadership in Nigeria is reduced to by default. Tribal trial by error.
China will retaliate and vice versa. Let's see who blinks first. The war go sweet well well. Africa should rise up and form a strong independent regional bloc to harvest from the chaos.
Michaelkelvin1: But the question is what does he need to go to the moon for? Well we don't judge.. his rewards is with the creator
Adeboye is not going to the moon per se. He was shown what would happen even outside his lifespan. I have seen the dim future that didn't look real compared to today, me a nobody.
When u can't grab simple logic. Compare life in 1445 to that in 2025, then project upwards to 2095. It's easy to surmise that being in the moon would become an effortless issue in the future, wouldn't even be news. Adeboye didn't mean travelling to the moon today. God showed him what would become a possibility in dim future. Get it or get lost.
No. It's yours that is.
Ykc2: but the people inventing those things are not Christians
It didnt matter. We all travel by vehicles and plane. Who produced is immaterial. The point is that being in the moon effortlessly is a future possibility. I doubt that Adeboye meant going to the moon with his congregation as all assume. It's something in the dim future.
Neither. Your small mind is not futuristic. So, u don't believe that time will come in the dim future when traveling to outer space will no longer be an issue?
What's not logical please? Haven't you read that time was when it took weeks and months to travel from one part of the US to another? Today what's the reality? You crisscross the US in hours. In distant time, we could visit outside planets in hours or days. That's predictable. It's not a matter for today.
I believe in this prediction. Time is coming when distances are shortened drastically by inventions. Going to the moon and back would seem like travelling to the USA from Europe, or even shorter. People would seem to appear and disappear due to speed of motion from one point to another. God is great and omniscient. He inspires revelations of things to come.
incogni2o: If Akpabio has the boldness to sexually harrass a woman senator before her husband, then definitely other ladies should have come out cos only a chronic addict can.do.that.
I also wanted to ask , can sexual harrasement be verbal based on what she said Akpabio said?
Also, can flirting be considered sexual harrasement?
Also, does it make sense bringing a personal issue as a petition, thought she was representing her constituency.
If actually he harassed her in front of her husband, I think she mistook a lighthearted flirt. Nobody can do that.
TimeManager: It is the height of unpatriotism and acute ignorance for anyone or opposition to say the security situation has not improved or that the Military are not doing anything. Given that the opposition might always cash in on some pockets of bandits attacks to lambast the Government/ our military. However, the fact speaks for itself. Gone are the days we had weekly mass burials in Benue, Southern Kaduna and others. If only we had this kind of aggressive push in the last 14 years of military operations.
Kiss the truth!
Where are the dead bodies? We can't believe everything on the pages of newspapers. Shekau died several times on the pages of National dailies.
Trump and Putin have same territorial mindset. They are annexation minded. Trump is eyeing Gaza and Canada the same way Putin is eyeing Ukraine. Canada is right to tighten control over her sovereignty before they wake up one day as 51st state of the US.
Which one is Tinubu's Bishop. Is Tinubu now a Christian? Or was he among those hired in the past? Nigeria is a huge joke. Sycophancy and sentiments and even tribalism can take you where those with rational sense cannot dream. May God grant them safe trip. I rest my case.
bmaster2000: Nwosu was bribed....he conspired with the military to sabotage Nigeria's freest and fairest election... and this is why all his Nzogbi Nzogu brothers in the national assembly disgraced themselves while defending that stooge and puppet in the hands of Babangida. Alaribe began quoting incorrect standing order rules on the floor of the House of Senate to defend the lie cooked up by the Ibo Federation in the Senate. ...
So shameful, people!
Shame on you. You have eyes but cannot see, you have ears but cannot hear. You are like a statue, impervious to time and reason. Did you read the post at all? An election the military high command tried everything to thwart because of the now obvious ambition of Sani Abacha.
sarrki: Like Charles ? Catherine, John and abedenego right ?
Otooooooonddo
Not really. You may not get where I am coming from. Phonological appeal is zero. We have Obafemi Awolowo University, we have Odumegwu Ojukwu Polytechnic. I have not beef with these. Sarrki University sounds better. It must not necessarily be English.
Good facilities. And I suppose, better academic staffing than public universities. But make una try dey give Schools better names na. Which one is MADUKA University?
Xammie001: See from my end Gov. Fubara is good but not a good politician, see those heaping praises and advising him are now the same people that went to greet the administrator day 1. he could have done better from day 1 without interfering in the assembly tussle and do his eye service by now he would be celebrated and have the wike camp to his side to fight any external influence but Mr. Gov was carried away by the Noise of people benefiting from him
You didnt understand Fubara's challenges with Wike. Wike insisted on governing from Abuja. You wouldn't have seen anything in Fubara's name if the absurd contraption persisted.
I am not understanding these records anymore. Which one is this kwanu? Try again next time and get all visas on hand before the attempt. You don't blame Australian embassy. Nigerian passport reeks of hard drug, yahoo yahoo and corruption.
slimfit1: If she had tried to focus on law making I think we wouldn't be here, she hasn't done anything to me. Her job is lawmaking she decided to do this with the money we gave her not her money. The lady has done nothing to me. Lawmaking will provide more jobs for people this was just for photoshoot don't be deceived. However, I still stand with her on her case with Akpabio.
That is the crux of the altercation with Akpabio. SP was blocking her bills, according to her, for refusing his sexual advances. He said she had to make him 'happy' to enjoy the opportunity to air her bills. It's an allegation that supposed to have been thoroughly investigated. But the mafia in the senate swept it under the carpet.
But honestly, I'm super proud of us Yorubas and our myriad, positive contributions to this county. Of the top 5 highest goal scorers in Nigerian history, 4 are Yorubas (outside Osinmen). About other sports have our feet too. Football, track, and so on. All these despite the limited resources. We're some of the greatest and intelligent people, I believe.
You have started putting on tribal lenses. So Ikechukwu Uche who is in top 5 is also Yoruba?
God1000: Congratulations to her and the people of Namibia
And nigeria is yet to have a female governor, not to talk of president
our women should get involved in politics and leave social media
Modified In November 2006, the then Deputy governor to Peter obi Virginia Etiaba was made the governor in Anambra state for three months when peter obi was impeached, she remains the only female governor in Nigeria
Them never do feminism finish. Even fellow women wont support a woman politician. Jealousy and feminism dey nack them.
