Losers busy looking for who to blame or what to blame on Ofunaofu: The African Democratic Congress on Saturday condemned the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for visiting polling units in Abuja during the Area Council elections, describing his actions as “direct interference” and a potential source of voter intimidation.
In a statement signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said Wike’s tour, which followed a curfew imposed on potential voters, represents direct interference in the election.
“The African Democratic Congress strongly condemns the movement of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, around various polling units in Abuja under the guise of monitoring.
“Wike’s monitoring exercise, after unilaterally imposing a curfew on potential voters, represents direct interference in the election,” the statement reads.
The party added that Wike “is not a registered voter in the FCT, and as a known partisan and cabinet minister, he has no constitutional role in the exercise.”
The statement highlighted reports of voter suppression and intimidation, including “alleged collaboration between APC agents and some security personnel,” and urged all ADC party agents and voters to “remain calm but vigilant, and to document all incidents.”
The party also flagged disruptions to the INEC Result Viewing Portal, noting it “has remained inaccessible even as results are being collated,” and called on the electoral commission to “urgently restore full IReV functionality, with a clear public explanation of the disruption.”
ADC described Wike’s presence during active voting as “vexatious and meddlesome” and said it “risks intimidating voters and officials,” while urging citizens to report all irregularities to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
It was earlier reported that videos shared by Wike’s media aide, Olayinka Lere, showed the minister at polling stations in Karu, Karshi, and Garki.
Speaking after monitoring the exercise and interacting with voters, Wike said the elections were peaceful, security personnel had performed well, and turnout was “quite impressive” in satellite towns, though low in the city centre.

Waste of votes, PDP don't have candidate in bwari. The candidate openly step down for APC candidate experts: *Gbenga Hashim Delivers Overwhelming Victory for PDP Against Wike, ADC in Bwari Area Council*
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) recorded a sweeping victory at Big Cele Settlement in Dutse Alhaji, Bwari Area Council, as PDP presidential aspirant Gbenga Hashim delivered his polling unit with a commanding margin in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Area Council election.
This comes despite claims that the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, influenced the withdrawal of the PDP candidate on the eve of the election.
Official results from the polling unit in the settlement show a dominant performance by the PDP in both the chairmanship and councillorship elections.
In Polling Unit 076, the PDP secured 74 votes in the chairmanship election, while the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 2 votes and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) recorded 2 votes.
In the councillorship election, the PDP garnered 75 votes, with the APC scoring 4 votes and the ADC polling 3 votes. Other political parties recorded no votes.
The results represent a near total sweep for the PDP in the settlement, widely seen as a reflection of strong grassroots mobilisation and sustained community engagement.
Speaking after the declaration of results at the polling unit, Hashim thanked residents for their support and peaceful participation.
“This victory belongs to the people. It reflects consistent engagement, listening leadership, and our shared commitment to progress at the grassroots,” he said.
Observers described the margin as politically significant, noting that such dominance at the polling unit level demonstrates organisational strength and voter loyalty within the ward.
Voting at the unit was reported to be peaceful and orderly, with security personnel on the ground and electoral officials conducting the process in compliance with guidelines.
Party stakeholders said the outcome reinforces the PDP’s grassroots footing in parts of the FCT and signals renewed momentum in local political structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
The FCT Area Council elections, held across the six area councils, are regarded as an important test of party mobilisation capacity ahead of future electoral contests. |

Politics › Re: Why Do People Genuinely Dislike Tinubu? by yarimo(m): 11:35pm On Feb 20 |
Only emergency lovers hate president TINUBU steadygo: It feels like many people have one extreme opinion of Tinubu or the other. He is either the worst thing to ever happen to Nigeria or he is our savior. A lot of his economic moves like subsidy removal, FX reforms, and trying to increase government revenue should benefit Nigeria over time on paper. So I can understand to that level why people would like him at least to that level. At the same time, I understand why many feel the hardship is too much and that the government didn’t cushion it well, even though much of the cushioning depended on institutions or lack thereof that was already in place before Tinubu came in.
I'm interested in hearing more on why people dislike him, what about Tinubu is so much worse than past Presidents? Not looking at it in the sense of the overall state of the economy which depends on many things but in terms of governance. |
