I have realized, through hearing them speak, that many bigots are against Obi because they know he will perform well, and are afraid that Igbos will then feel proud of this. They are aware Tinubu is inept and a failure, but the worst Tinubu does the more afraid they are of an Obi because he will do better than their tribesman. Especially when compared to Tinubu's performance. Meaning, there are people who would rather ruin their lives through inept government and assure they don't gain employment if it means they can be safe in the tribal ego fight that only exists in their head.

If you don't know the effect of tribalism on nigerians, here is a case.

There’s been some attention around Peter Obi after he shared details of a meeting he had in Cape Town before heading to Johannesburg.

He said he met with two former African leaders — Ian Khama and Thabo Mbeki — and from what he explained, it wasn’t just a casual visit.

Especially for how they’ve been talking about those immigration issues that keep popping up across different African countries.

And funny enough, that small part… that’s what people are really picking out from everything he said.

Issues around immigration and how Africans treat each other in different countries have been coming up more often lately, so seeing names like Khama and Mbeki still speaking on it — and being engaged — is something some people see as important.

Obi also mentioned that both men still carry a lot of weight across the continent, even after leaving office. And to be fair, that’s something many would agree with.

During the same trip, he also linked up with Kayode Fayemi at the Thabo Mbeki Africa Day lecture. Fayemi delivered a keynote there, talking about rebuilding unity and strengthening institutions across Africa — the kind of conversation that keeps coming up these days.

Since he shared it, reactions have been mixed.

Some people see it as a good sign — that he’s keeping those connections and staying involved in bigger African conversations beyond Nigeria.
