Manchester United have finally made their first move in the summer transfer window. It felt like it had been a long time coming, but Jose Mourinho has sealed a deal for Victor Lindelof. The 22-year-old will become a Red Devil, making the switch from SL Benfica.

Who is Victor Lindelof?

Hailing from Västerås, Sweden, Victor Jörgen Nilsson Lindelof has been on Benfica’s books since 2012. The centre-half made his debut in 2013, but it wasn’t until the 2015/16 when he really made his mark on the Portuguese giants.

Since then, the 22-year-old has become a mainstay in the starting line-up of the Primeira Liga team and he has become one of their key players. Over the last twelve months or so, Lindelof’s displays have been rewarded with twelve international caps, further highlighting his ability.
Style of play

Victor Lindelof is known as the ‘Iceman’ for a reason. He’s cool as a cucumber under pressure and he loves playing out from the back when the opportunity to do so presents itself. He doesn’t wilt under pressure, instead, he thrives in the big moments.

The centre-half is assured in the tackle, has a great turn of pace and is wonderful in the air. The most exciting thing about him is his confidence, which is shown in the below video. He doesn’t mind taking a risk, but only when it’s a calculated one.

Where will he fit in at Manchester United?

Well, it’s fair to say that both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have failed to impress Mourinho. The English duo have barely been able to keep fit and when they have played, they’ve both struggled. Eric Bailly has been insane for the Old Trafford club, but he needs a long-term partner.

With Marcos Rojo out injured, Lindelof will get his opportunity from day one. Being left-footed, it makes perfect sense to start him in that left centre-back slot alongside the aforementioned Bailly. On paper, it seems like a match made in heaven.

Honestly, it’s extremely early days but I can see some form of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic type of partnership developing. Bailly is like the Serbian Warrior – front-footed, aggressive and willing to put his body on the line. Lindelof is great with the ball at his feet, confident in possession and assured in the tackle – very similar to how Ferdinand used to play. The frightening thing is that both of these guys are in their early twenties. If they can gel together, this could be a partnership that lasts a decade.
The verdict

On paper, this could well go down as one of the most underrated signings of the summer transfer window. However, it is now up to Lindelof to put in the types of performances that we’ve seen from him so regularly.

I’m of the opinion that he will be a huge success. He took European football by storm last season and I can see him doing similar in the physical English game. Once again, Manchester United could have unearthed an absolute gem.

Manchester United are still searching for a new striker after the news that Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann will be staying in the Spanish capital. Part of the captions Davido used frequently when talking about the house project include ‘new house’, ‘crib almost done’ and ‘can’t wait to move to the crib’. These captions suggested that he was building a massive house that would make the jaws of people around drop.
However, his fans are starting to think the new crib is just the old one having a new face lift. Davido reportedly visited a new site in Lekki where he inspected the crib he wanted to move into.
