Five Islamic Guidelines for Gender Interactions Harvey Weinstein, is a name that has an ugly ring to it today, due to the horrible sexual allegations that he’s being accused of by various women. This incident, however, has brought about a storm, with many women coming out about their own previous experiences of sexual harassments by writing the words “Me Too” on social media. According to RAINN, in America alone, one person is assaulted every 98 seconds, and 90% of rape victims are women. Australia also has one of the highest rates of reported sexual assault in the world, at almost 92 people per 100,000 of the population, according to the United Nations. Islam has rejected rape and it is reported that a woman went out in the time of the Prophet ﷺ for prayer and a man sexually assaulted her. The Prophet ﷺ told the woman that Allah has forgiven her and then asked his companions to stone the man who raped her to death. (Abu Dawud) The Quran and Sunnah have established rulings in regards to the interactions with the opposite gender who are non-mahram, in the hopes of ensuring women are protected against such horrible incidents. So here are 5 Islamic guidelines for gender interactions: Lower your Gaze “Tell the believing men to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts. That is purer for them… ..And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision and guard their private parts…” (Quran 24:30-31) In a famous incident, a woman described as strikingly beautiful approached the Prophet ﷺ to seek his guidance on a religious matter. The Prophet’s companion, Al Fadl, began to stare at her because of her beauty. Noting this, the Prophetﷺ did not scold the woman for her attire, but instead, he turned Al-Fadl’s face to the other side so that he would not gaze at her. (Bukhari) All Muslims must behave modestly and carry themselves humbly amongst others. Allah has mentioned that in the Quran so that we know our duty as Muslims is to respect other people’s privacy and never cross the moral boundaries of interaction. Stay Clear of Secluded Encounters The Prophet ﷺ warned us that people of opposite sex (non-mahram)should never be alone in one room, otherwise the devil (Shaytan) will be the third one present with them. (At-Tirmidhi) Hotel rooms, one of Weinstein’s preferred locations to conduct his “so-called” meetings, are a red flag, for it will leave victims vulnerable and not able to defend themselves in the event of sexual harassment or rape. Keep in mind, two people don’t need to be in complete isolation for it to be unsafe. Your Tone Matters Use a serious tone of voice and expression. This doesn’t mean you have to be rude, but speaking in a professional manner dictates the way people interact with you. Allah says in the Quran, “…do not speak in lowered tones (with a sweet voice) lest he in whose heart is a disease of lust should be moved with desire. And speak in a befitting manner.” (Quran 33:32) Interactions should be purposeful In Islam, the relationship with the opposite gender should not only be professional but also purposeful. We can learn lessons about interactions with the opposite gender from Aisha, the wife of the Prophetﷺ, who not only gave Islamic rulings to the companions but also fought in battles. She did all that for the sole purpose of pleasing Allah and was always guarding her modesty. Treat each other with Dignity Take an example from the story of Prophet Musa when he reached the Well of Madyan. He saw two girls struggling to keep their sheep away from the well. “…He (Musa) said, “What is your circumstance?” They said, “We do not water until the shepherds dispatch [their flocks]; and our father is an old man.” (Quran 28:23) “So he (Musa) watered [their flocks] for them…” “Then one of the two women came to him walking with shyness. She said, “Indeed, my father invites you that he may reward you for having watered for us…” (Quran 28:24-25) These women had dignity and were shy around men as the Quran mentions, however, they were confident enough to work and address men when necessary. May Allah make us from those who have the best of manners and character. https://onepathnetwork.com/5-islamic-guidelines-for-gender-interactions/ |

Sissie:Different school of taught ??OR The Qura'an and Sunnah Says: O ye who believe ! Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those of you , the you differ in anything amongst yourselves , refer it to Allah and the Messenger , if you believe in Allah and the day it is better and better interpretation in which three issues(Surah 4:59) We need to be very careful regarding differences of school of taught. Let us examine the sayings of these Imams whose companions have narrated from them, various sayings and diverse warnings, all of them leading to one thing: the obligation to accept the Hadeeth, and to give up following the opinions of the imaams which contradict it: 1) Abu Haneefah (rahimahullaah) 1. "When a hadeeth is found to be saheeh, then that is my madhhab."20 2. "It is not permitted21 for anyone to accept our views if they do not know from where we got them."22 In one narration, "It is prohibited23 for someone who does not know my evidence to give verdicts24 on the basis of my words." 2) Maalik ibn Anas (rahimahullaah) As for Imaam Maalik ibn Anas, he said: 1. "Truly I am only a mortal: I make mistakes (sometimes) and I am correct (sometimes). Therefore, look into my opinions: all that agrees with the Book and the Sunnah, accept it; and all that does not agree with the Book and the Sunnah, ignore it."28 2. "Everyone after the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) will have his sayings accepted and rejected - not so the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam). 3) Shaafi'i (rahimahullaah) As for Imaam Shaafi'i, the quotations from him are most numerous and beautiful31, and his followers were the best in sticking to them: 1. "The sunnahs of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) reach, as well as escape from, every one of us. So whenever I voice my opinion, or formulate a principle, where something contrary to my view exists on the authority of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam), then the correct view is what the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) has said, and it is my view."32 2. "The Muslims are unanimously agreed that if a sunnah of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu'alaihi wa sallam) is made clear to someone, it is not permitted33 for him to leave it for the saying of anyone else."34 4) Ahmad ibn Hanbal (rahimahullaah) Imaam Ahmad was the foremost among the Imaams in collecting the Sunnah and sticking to it, so much so that he even "disliked that a book consisting of deductions and opinions be written."43 Because of this he said: 1. "Do not follow my opinion; neither follow the opinion of Maalik, nor Shaafi'i, nor Awzaa'i, nor Thawri, but take from where they took."44 In one narration: "Do not copy your Deen from anyone of these, but whatever comes from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and his Companions, take it; next are their Successors, where a man has a choice." Once he said: "Following45 means that a man follows what comes from the Prophet (sallallaahu'alaihi wa sallam) and his Companions; after the Successors, he has a choice."46 2. "The opinion of Awzaa'i, the opinion of Maalik, the opinion of Abu Haneefah: all of it is opinion, and it is all equal in my eyes. However, the proof is in the narrations (from the Prophet (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) and his Companions)."47 3. "Whoever rejects a statement of the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu 'alaihi wa sallam) is on the brink of destruction."48 |

1st February, 2018 PRESS RELEASE: CAN’S DENIAL OF RELIGIONISATION OF POLITICS: WE ARE NOT CONVINCED The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday denied instigating Christians to vote for Christians only in the 2019 general elections. The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) had alleged on Tuesday, 30th January, 2018 that the Christian umbrella body was instigating Christians against voting for Muslim politicians. We are not convinced by CAN’s denial though its denial did not surprise us. It is only natural. Yet in spite of the denial, Nigerians know that CAN’s body language speaks volumes. Its hate speeches are legend. Its bitter expressions underline its frustration. CAN is desperate to install a Christian president in Nigeria. Can CAN deny calling on all churches to pray for Christian victory in the wake of the Benue killings? Nigerian churches were told to spend the whole of Sunday January 7, 2019 praying for victory for Christians. The directive was issued by CAN in its January 5 press statement. That directive naturally caught our attention and we monitored the manner the prayers were offered in some Nigerian cities. We heard more curses than prayers in some noisy churches. While some prayed for victory for Christians, most churches rained abuses, invectives and curses on the Buhari administration. It was more of hysteria than the atmosphere of serenity required in places of worship. CAN has stirred up emotions in Nigerian churches. Can CAN also deny that it has openly directed Christians all over the country to go into politics? CAN openly gave that instruction on 19th January, 2018. What assurance do we have that there was no hidden message in that directive? What assurance do we have that there were no other secret messages sent round after the public directive? Who is a fool? If religion is a private affair, why is CAN always interfering in the privacies of its followers. Why must they be directed in a matter unrelated to religion? Religion is a private matter when it pleases CAN but it is a public affair when it suits the umbrella Christian body. As far as CAN is concerned, Christians are free to organize themselves publicly but Muslims must never be allowed to come together publicly to organize their affairs. Such double standard is, to say the least, disgusting. Can CAN also disown a certain John B. Damuna who calls himself the Assistant Coordinator of the Christian Youth Organization of Nigeria Northern chapter? John Damuna in a document in our possession warns Christians that it would be a disaster if a Christian did not emerge president in 2019. He claims to be carrying out the directive of CAN. We are going to be silent about what he said concerning herdsmen and almajiris in the same document so that we do not stir another crisis. CAN should stop deceiving us. It is more honourable to admit one’s actions and statements. It is no longer religion when we say one thing and pretend we never did. Let us leave such antics to politicians. The alternative is to derobe and don the toga of politics. The last time we checked, ex-Presidents Mathew Okikiola Obasanjo and Goodluck Ebele Jonathan were still Christians. If it is true that Obasanjo ruled Nigeria for eight good years (1999 – 2007) and former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan was in power for six years (2010 – 2015), CAN cannot rationalize its present craving for a Christian president. On what ground? Of the nineteen (19) years of civil rule which began in 1999, Muslims have only been in power for five (5) years while Christians have ruled for fourteen (14) years. So what is the rush all about? Turn by turn, remember? As a last shot, we remind churches and mosques to mind their language as we march towards 2019. Our places of worship are filled up with leaders and members of all the political parties. We may be shooting ourselves in the foot if we use our places of worship to demarket any political party or any political leader. Religious leaders should rein in their firebrand activists to avoid creating unnecessary tension. We need peace now more than before. Professor Ishaq Akintola, Director, Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) |
*FROM ONE THIEF TO ANOTHER*. *It is not a PDP vs APC affair* Nigeria is a Country of privileged thieves. - Dr Piri says: We can only rescue Nigeria during next election. "Who Destroyed Nigeria? PLEASE READ The defensive narrative in recent times especially from those who support the present regime is that "PDP Destroyed" our country and it will take several years to rebuild it. With both right and wrong data. However, if the above assertion is true, then a close look at the current political gladiators leaves us with no other conclusion than to admit that Nigeria is very far from the desired change. 1. *Sen. Pres. Bukola Saraki. PDP Governor for 8yrs and PDP Senator for over 3 yrs.* He joined APC in 2014. Now the Senate President. 2. *Speaker Yakubu Dogara. Two-term PDP House of Rep member.* Joined APC in 2014 and elected for a third time in 2015. Now the Speaker. 3. *VP Atiku Abubakar. Nigeria's PDP Vice-President for 8yrs* and presently an APC Elder statesman. 4. *Sen. Victor Ndoma-Egba. PDP Senator for 12yrs.* Decamped to APC in 2015. He is the serving Chairman, NDDC Board. 5. *Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri. Two-term PDP Senator from Bayelsa State.* Decamped to APC after the 2015 elections. He is a serving Minister of the Republic. 6. *Sen. Ita Enang. Two-term PDP Senator from Akwa-Ibom.* Joined APC before the 2015 elections. Presently the SSA to the President on NASS. 7. *Gov. Samuel Ortom. Benue State Secretary of the PDP, Former National Auditor of the PDP and former PDP Minister.* Joined APC in December 2014. Now Governor of Benue State. 8. *Sen. Barnabas Gemade. Founding fathers of the PDP, former National Chairman of the party and Senator from 2011.* Joined APC in December 2014. Now APC Senator. 9. *Gov. Atiku Bagudu. A two-term PDP Senator from Kebbi.* Now APC Governor of Kebbi State. 10. *Gov. Aminu Tambuwal. Former PDP Speaker House of Reps.* Joined APC in 2014. Now Governor of Sokoto State. 11. *Sen. Abdullahi Adamu. Two-term PDP Governor of Nasarawa state and Senator from 2011-2014*. Now APC Senator. 12. *Sen. Danjuma Goje. Two-term PDP Governor of Gombe State and Senator in 2011- 2014*. Now APC Senator. 13. *Hon. Dakuku Peterside. Was a PDP Rep member from Rivers State.* Now the DG of NIMASA. 14. *Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso. Two-term PDP Governor of Kano State and former Minister of Defence.* Now APC Senator. 15. *Hon. Rotimi Amaechi. Former PDP Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Two-term PDP Governor of Rivers.* Now APC Minister of the Republic. 16. *Gov. Rochas Okorocha. Special Adviser to PDP's Pres. Obasanjo. Became the Governor of Imo under APGA's platform.* Now APC Governor of Imo State. 17. *Sen. George Akume. Two-term PDP Governor of Benue State and Senator in 2007.* Now APC Senator. 18. *Gov. Nasir El-Rufai. Former FCT Minister under Pres. Obasanjo.* Now APC Governor of Kaduna State. 19. *Gov. Bello Masari. PDP Speaker of the House of Reps in 2003.* Now APC Governor of Katsina State. 20. *Sen. Adamu Aliero. Two-term PDP Governor of Kebbi State and Senator in 2007. Later became FCT Minister under Pres. Yar'Adua.* Now APC Senator. 21. *Sen. Udoma Udo Udoma. Two-term PDP Senator from Akwa-Ibom State.* Now APC Minister of Budget & National Planning. Now, *apart from Atiku, all the above are holding sways in this regime. They all played a part in the 16yrs of "PDP destruction"* So, how can this same people that plunder PDP but somehow are now members of the APC "rebuild" Nigeria. Wow! Therefore, my submission is that *PDP did NOT destroy Nigeria but the Nigerian people destroyed Nigeria*. *Hence, the need to vote candidates/people in 2019, not party.* The personality is the issue and not APC, PDP, APGA or LP.* In view of the above submission, "change" is still pipeline dream in this country. Since these people are part of a problem, they definitely can't be part of any rightful solution. Our politicians lack credibility and have nothing to offer us anymore. They jump ship as soon as they discover where the pendulum of victory is swinging without minding the consequences of their actions on the subjects. These same set of people are the big stakeholders in this government. So, the President is helpless. He can achieve very little or nothing with these corrupt politicians around him. Therefore, for true change come 2019, we have a duty to vote them out and youths must not help them rig election. Let's create a new Nigeria where patriotism, sound ideology and Nigerians will be the focus of our political leaders and not personality. Agenda 2019. *DO NOT RECYCLE CORRUPTION.* *MAKE SURE THAT ALL FORMER GOVERNORS, MINISTERS AND LEGISLATORS ARE VOTED OUT.* Nigerians, Wake up!!!" |

THE PROMISE – A Play in One Act January 20, 2018UmmuHurayrah CAST OF CHARACTERS Balqees Shittu : A woman in her late thirties. She is a striving Muslimah who is willing to learn new things about her religion. Umar Musa : An intelligent eight-year-old boy. Balqees’ only son. Ibraheem Adedeji : A bright eight-year-old boy. Umar’s classmate and best friend. ……….. ACT 1 SCENE 1 The Musa’s living room. Umar and Ibraheem are seen playing with toys and games. The room is tastefully furnished, with soft leather couches, beautiful paintings and Islamic calligraphy hanging on the wall. The home theatre fixed to the wall is on, but the kids pay no mind to it. Balqees is in the kitchen preparing a meal. Suddenly, Umar cries out in annoyance. Ibraheem has just broken his favourite toy. UMAR (on the verge of tears) Now, look at what you have done! I told you to be careful with it. IBRAHEEM (apologetically) I am sorry. I didn’t know (Umar begins to cry loudly. Balqees hearing the commotion leaves the kitchen and enters the sitting room). BALQEES What is going on here? Why are you crying Umar? UMAR (sniffling amidst his tears) Ibraheem spoilt my toy. BALQEES Sorry, my dear. I am sure he didn’t do it on purpose. You Know what? I will buy you another one tomorrow? (Umar nods his head). Now stop crying. (Satisfied that everything was settled, Balqees returns to the kitchen. The kids resuming playing and it seems all is forgotten until Ibraheem speaks up again). IBRAHEEM You’re lucky. At least your mum is going to replace your toy. UMAR (in a flippant tone) No, she won’t. My mum never keeps her promises. She only said that to stop me from crying. IBRAHEEM (sounding surprised) Really? UMAR Yes. She promised to get me a pair of shoes if I came first, last term. I did, and she did not buy me the shoes. She also said she would give me my own prayer mat to take to Jumu’ah, she didn’t. Anyway, I am used to it, so I don’t get my hopes up whenever she promised me something. (Ibraheem shakes his head while listening to Umar. Balqees on the other hand, overhears their conversation and she feels bad). BALQEES (to herself) I never knew that my son felt this way. They were only harmless words I said to him to make him better. IBRAHEEM Maybe we should tell your mummy about the hadith from Bukhaaree and Muslim that Ustaadh taught us at the madrasah: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “The signs of a hypocrite are three: when he talks he lies, whenever he promises, he breaks his promise and whenever he makes a covenant he proves treacherous”. (Ibraheem whispers to Umar). So, your mummy is a hypocrite? UMAR Yes. (Balqees is stunned. She resolved to change her ways, effective immediately. Blackout). ………. ACT I SCENE TWO (The evening of the same day. Balqees walks into the living room carrying shopping bags. She calls out to Umar who is in his room). BALQEES Umar! Could you come out here, please? UMAR Yes, mummy. (He walks into the sitting room and sits beside his mother). Here I am. ma. BALQEES (She holds his hands and starts to speak in an apologetic tone) My son, first of all, I want to say I am sorry. I had no idea that my unfulfilled covenants hurt you so much. I only uttered them to make you feel better or to push you to do better. I did not realise I was dashing your hopes by making promises I had little or no intention to fulfill. (She sighs and brings the bags over to where they are seated) Open the bags. (Umar does and shouts excitedly when he sees what’s inside. A pair of shoes, a prayer mat, a replacement for his damaged toy and some other stuff she had promised and failed to get him a long time ago). UMAR Wow, mummy! Jazaakumullaahu khayran. I love them. BALQEES I am glad you like them. You see I overheard your conversation with Ibraheem this afternoon and I did not like that by my actions, I showed signs of hypocrisy. The items in the bag are the stuff I can recall that I promised you. If there are others; maybe items or things I said I will do for you; make a list and in shaa Allah, I will get them for you. UMAR Oh, mummy, you don’t have to do that. These are enough. I have forgiven you. Just promise me that you will keep your promises from now on. BALQEES I promise. (They laugh and hug each other as the lights dim. Curtain). “O you who believe! Why do you say that which you do not do? Most hateful it is in the sight of Allah that you say that which you do not do” (Qur’an 61: 2-3). THE END. |
