President Muhammadu Buhari Friday in Abuja directed the Federal Ministry of Defence to produce a plan for the establishment of a modest Military Industrial Complex for the local production of weapons to meet some of the requirements of the country’s armed forces. Speaking at the graduation ceremony of the National Defence College, President Buhari described as unacceptable, Nigeria’s current over-dependence on other countries for critical military equipment and logistics. “We must evolve viable mechanisms for near-self-sufficiency in military equipment and logistics production complemented only by very advanced foreign technologies. “The Ministry of Defence is being tasked to draw up clear and measurable outlines for development of a modest Military Industrial Complex for Nigeria. “In this regard, it is to liaise with other strategic MDAs and industries to re-engineer the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) to meet national military hardware and logistics requirements,” the President said. President Buhari told the gathering that his administration had, since its assumption of office, reviewed the nature and character of Nigeria’s security threats and challenges. “We recognized first and foremost, the external dimensions of these threats and the need for international cooperation and common security mechanisms to tackle them,” the President said. President Buhari added that in the light of this realization, his Administration was “convinced that the best approach was to work within the framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC) to mobilize a collective regional effort in the fight against terrorism and insurgency. The President urged the graduates and officers and men of the Armed Forces to work harder to win the war against Boko Haram, terrorism and insurgency. “We must apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency; we must show result oriented leadership at all levels of military Command; we must set up an optimal organization to manage and sustain operational performance; and we must show confidence and winning mentality,” President Buhari told them. The President assured that the Federal Government under his leadership will strive to meet the operational, logistic, training and welfare requirements of the Armed Forces of Nigeria. He also reaffirmed his commitment to ameliorating the hardships of people living in areas most affected by insurgency and terrorism. “We have the will, resolve and conviction to apply a comprehensive strategy and coordinate all elements of national power against terrorism and insurgency,” the President reassured Nigerians and the international community. President Buhari said that the National Defence College had fulfilled the vision of its founding fathers, by becoming a strategic human capacity-building institution, making credible contributions to Nigeria and other friendly countries. The President urged graduates of the College’s Course 23 to resolve to make “a marked difference in your future deployments and contribute your quota to the evolution and implementation of national security, defence and military strategies.” “You should be the source that lights up the environment wherever you find yourselves,” he told them. The weekend of 13th - 15th Dec. 2013 is probably my best weekend ever, I have not receive such a five star treatment for consecutive days in a long time. The event was 12th workshop/Dinner and award night for all correspondence of Campus life section of The nation newspaper usually published on thursdays. In attendance were students from different campuses across the federation. The event was sponsored by Nigeria Bottling Company and Cocacola Nigeria Limited. We arrived at Citilodge Hotel Lekki around 4:30pm on friday with warm reception by the hotel personnel offering us a cup of Juice each with Chin chin, also Cocacola Van was already at the hotel to stock the Hotel with lots of NBC's product for our consumption. At 6pm we moved to Lamboghini Event Centre, just 3 minute drive from the Hotel, the venue of the Dinner and award ceremony and it such a colourful and memorable dinner as the Hall was fully decorated red in Cocacola colour Ayo Owoduni, a presenter with radio continental was the MC for the night while Prof. Pat Utomi was the Chief Speaker, Prof. shared with us how rascal he was back then in school. Everyone served themselves different type of delicacies, Personally I couldn't finish the food I served myself, I was full. We returned to the hotel around 11pm friday, all tired, we all resorted to our beds and the following morning, it was time for workshop/seminar proper by 8am, though, I miss my breakfast because some of us did not know the schedules. At the seminar a lot was shared with us from Cocacola, Editor of Campus Life - Wale Ajetunmobi and Tolu Ogunlesi, the CNN/Multichoice award winner. During the seminar I forgot about missing my breakfast due to the excitement and the number of Coke, Fanta, Sprite I drank that day was uncountable. I'm thinking of getting some 'agbo Jedi' anyway but on the contrary, cocola manager who spoke at the seminar dismiss the belief that Cocacola gives diabetes and that the sugar content is very low. Later in the afternoon we visited kids living with Cancer at Lagos University teaching Hospital (Luth) and also visited the wife of Donald Duke the former Governor of cross rivers state who also owns an NGO canvassing for support for cancer patients. Afterwards, we return to the hotel, with our dinner ready, delicious variety of food we had. After the dinner, it was time to get into that swimming pool I have been eyeing since I stepped into that hotel, though I can't swim but I like playing with water. Playing at the side that is shallow, soon I was tempted to swim towards the deep part and I indeed regret doing that as I was drowning before those around came to my rescue, since then my phobia for water had increased. The experience is one I'll continue to treasure for a long time. It feels good to be among some of the best campus journalist in the country right now because recently The nation newspaper was named Newspaper of the year at Nigeria Media merit awards and it has remained the only newspaper that had maintained campus life section for seven years. I'm privileged being the only representative from University of Lagos. A big thank you to The nation newspaper, Late Ms. Ngozi Agbo, the Pioneer of Campus Life section, Nigeria Bottling Company and Cocacola Nigeria Limited. www.adeyemiolalemi.

Posted by: ADEYEMI OLALEMI in Campus Life Academic activities at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) may have been paralysed because of the ongoing Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, but some students are utilising it for their own good. Instead of going home to do nothing, the students turned their hostel to a skill acquisition centre. Welcome to Moremi Hostel, the prestigious female hall of residence, where students now learn various vocation including handbag and bead making. The students are using the ASUU strike to their advantage, learning skills that could make them potential entrepreneurs without their certificates. CAMPUSLIFE learnt that the skill acquisition programme started like a joke when a few students gathered to receive training from an unnamed woman, who taught them in various craft. The trainees, who paid N5,000, later organised free training for their colleagues. The population of the apprentices increased when students called their colleagues to return to campus to benefit from the programme. A student, who was trained, said: “It was like a child’s play when I was called by my friends to come to the campus for vocational training. I am happy now because I have learned how to make handbags using local materials such as cardboard, foam, gum and Ankara materials.” Odunayo Oshinibosi, 300-Level Computer Science, said: “A lady came from outside the campus to conduct training for a few students on handbag making. So, I joined them. We paid N5,000. Those who were trained then taught their friends and it continues like that in a chain reaction.” Another residence of the hostel, who did not say her name, told CAMPUSLIFE: “Most of the students who stayed back in the hostel during the ongoing strike can now make bags of different styles.” Some of the students said they could now make three bags per day and sell each for N2,000 or N3,000. Many of the students, who hope to make more money from the bag business, said they were not concerned whether ASUU and the government would sheathe their sword and end the six-month strike. The arrest of over 300 hundred persons including minors and adults with identification in Badagry ended at the Tanko One Station Alausa where bail was set at 10,000naira and the inability of the arrested person to pay resulted in flogging. The findings as to the cause of this unjustifiable arrest according to the victims is the handwork of a retired civil servant now a contract staff working under Lagos State Ministry of environment named Mr Afolabi. It is said that this man has been the source of afflictions that befell Badagry miners. According to reports, Mr Afolabi is in the habit of collecting the sum of 200,000naira from the miner in the name of VIA but ever since the miners got registered, though with his help with the state and federal government under the Badagry Mining Site Association, the "usual money" was no longer forthcoming as the miners have become enlightened and also realised that the association is not under environment but under energy and power. In retaliation to the miners defiance, Mr Afolabi got thugs to work hand -in - hand with the police to threaten the life and property of the community. He also arrested the shepherd of 'CCC ogo oluwa akoro' in agorin. The fishermen in Suntan Beach also claim that they were arrested while going about their daily fishing activities and were also threatened to be locked up for the three weeks he (Mr Afolabi) would be in South Africa if they don't sort out themselves. These fishermen have been empowered with machinery by the government to make their work easier and are expected to make payment instalments for the machinery now wonder at how this will be possible if they are kept locked up. The miners in general who have been given a six month approval by the Ministry are now frustrated with the actions of Mr Afolabi which is acting the laid down procedures as the duty of the ministry is to caution and inspect, followed by a stop work order if mining activities become dangerous and if this steps are ignored, arrest will then be in order. The Special Adviser to the chairman of Badagry West Local Council Development Area on environment - Hon K.B Ogungbe took the bold step to report this ugly incident. Some of the miners, fishermen and innocent residence of Badagry are still unlawfully detained at Tanko One police station at Alausa, Ikeja as at the time of filing this report. By Olaguro Modiu (University of Lagos) "The blind leading the blind is not so upsetting, more jarring is the blind leading the sighted." The academic staff union of universities (ASUU) have been on strike for the past ninety days; according to the ASUU chairman- Dr. Issa Fagge, the strike action became imperative because the federal government had failed to honour the agreement it made with the union in 2009. As it has always been whenever ASUU strikes, the university students are always at the receiving end of it as we are left with no other option than to sit idle at our homes recounting our losses especially the inevitable extension of our academic years in school. Though no student in his or her right senses would want to extend his or her stay in school by even a day, the situation of things that prompted the strike embarked upon by ASUU ought to make us have a rethink and to ponder for a moment on whether we- as students would rather agree to support ASUU in this cause on their position that education has to be adequately funded or succumb to the extra year pressure in clamoring for an end to the strike. Among the stakeholders that have been vocal on the current imbroglio is the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) headed by the National president- Yinka Gbadebo. Gbadebo while speaking in Lagos recently, said that NANS was no longer in support of the strike as it has no moral obligation to do so urging ASUU to drag the federal government to court. The National Association of Nigerian students is the umbrella body of students studying in all tertiary institutions in the country. Thus by implication, every student studying in a university, polytechnic or college becomes an automatic member of the body. Before embarking on this journey, it would only be fair to give a concise definition of an association in order to ascertain whether NANS fits in. The Oxford advanced learner’s dictionary (International student’s edition) defines an association as “an official group of people who have joined together for a particular purpose; a connection or relationship between people or organization”; Encarta dictionary defines it as “coming together and social interaction between people”. As it is expected of an organization, we believe that any statement from the leadership of NANS ought to be the position of the generality of Nigerian students across universities; polytechnics and colleges respectively but a closer look at the antecedents, actions and statements from the leadership of NANS should make every Nigerian student wary of this body. A colleague confided in me that quite a handful number among the leadership of NANS are either drop outs or graduates; he further revealed that the smart ones amongst them enroll for a part time, diploma or graduate course in an institution before obtaining a form of contest in order to be recognized as a student. Clearly, ASUU and NANS are independent bodies; as Gbadebo pointed out, NANS has no moral obligation whatsoever to partake in its fights and struggles but as logical as the statement may sound, the leadership of NANS fell into a deep fallacy by asking ASUU to accept the paltry sum of 130 billion to be shared by over 60 universities. As I wrote earlier in a piece titled “On ASUU strike: unlike a nation’s pride”, the 2009 agreement consists of quite a number of things but there are few ones that ought not to be the fight of ASUU but that of NANS, especially the funding of education. Not a single one among undergraduates will support ASUU if it had embarked on this strike because of the increase in the retirement age of professors or the handing over of landed properties to federal universities. No Nigerian student whom NANS claim to represent and speak on its behalf would line up and sing songs of praise in support of ASUU if its reason for leaving the classroom was for an increment in pay and not the call for a better education for the Nigerian people. If NANS had been an association that truly seeks to protect the welfare of the over 60 million Nigerian students, it would have occurred to its leadership that the clamour by ASUU on the funding of education ought not to be ASUU's fight but theirs; or who stands to benefit from a world class classroom, a standard laboratory, a 24 hour electricity supply to the hostels, a reduced teacher - student ratio? The lecturers or the students? How would NANS claim to represent 60 million Nigerian students when it neither owns a website nor a blog? What authority do NANS and its card carrying executives have when they have not a single presence on the social media? I searched for 'www.nans.edu.ng, www.nans.org, www.nans.com and several other combinations but all i got was “website not available”. A Facebook search of NANS only shows a page with a total like of “4654” as at 14th of September 2013; a scroll to the bottom of the page had a poorly constructed statement that goes thus: “I am comrade Adeoye Adelaja, former Ass sec Gen in Federal poly Bida 2004/2005 set, i searched on facebook and i did Ŋ¤τ̲̅ see NANS, i decided τ̲̅ȍ create the page!!! in solidarity and for the sake of passing information τ̲̅ȍ all concern across all students bodies, i donate this page τ̲̅ȍ NANS, all the current Excos who which τ̲̅ȍ Manage this Page should do ♍ƺ an Email dibigslim@yahoo.com for ♍ƺ τ̲̅ȍ admin dem”. How on earth is NANS representing students in Nigeria if it cannot boast of a Twitter account in the 21st century? How can Gbadebo and his colleagues be speaking on my behalf and on the behalf of all undergraduates if it does not have a single notice board in the University of Lagos, the University of Ibadan, the University of Calabar, Ahmadu Bello university- Zaria, Federal university of technology- Akure, Yaba college of technology, Adeniran Ogunsanya college of education, and all the other tertiary institutions across Nigeria? The benefits of the social media as a powerful tool was most evident during the January 2012 subsidy protests where the Nigerian people were mobilised via the online media; NANS absence on the online media would not have bothered me if other associations such as the market women, national union of road transport workers, national union of local government employees, carpentry associations etcetera were not online. Is it not a farce that a few individuals have been parading themselves as the saviours of Nigerian students when they see nothing wrong in the standard of education in Nigeria? If Gbadebo was a Nigerian student, will he claim not to be aware that a four man room in an average Nigerian university now occupies at least twenty students? How can NANS be a body that is concerned about the welfare of the Nigerian students when our laboratory taps are dried or is the ailing standard of education not part of its mandate? What justification does NANS have to clandestinely take sides with the federal government (please convince us otherwise) when it is glaring that this country has the resources to fund education even beyond the 26% recommended by UNESCO; this is a country that feeds a president with 1 billion naira per annum and changes the spoons and forks in the first lady's kitchen with 45million naira for the same period. How does NANS claim to speak for Nigerian students when it has always taken sides with the government in power? Speaking at the 11th annual campus life workshop, the Lagos lawyer- Mr Femi Falana stated his displeasure over the lack of sincerity on the part of NANS as the association could not present itself as a witness in the court to fight the fee hike in the Lagos state university; yet, they claim to protect the interest of the Nigerian student. How does NANS expect Nigerian students to buy the idea that the country's economy will collapse if education gets adequate funding when there is profligacy everywhere? The politicians ride in exotic cars of the latest model whereas our professors drive about in a jeep of less than N800, 000 that was manufactured probably in the 70’s; former president Olusegun Obasanjo owns a university, Atiku Abubakar owns one, David mark earns over N600 million a year, Dimeji Bankole stole his own, Patricia Etteh stole, James Ibori laundered, Tafa Balogun stole, Bode George carted, Sanni Abacha's loot is still hanging, General Theophilius Danjuma sold an oil block and after paying all obligations, he asked Nigerians to advise him on what to do with it because the proceeds were too much; is NANS still buying the lies of Labaran Maku and Dr. Okonjo Iweala that the economy will collapse; that there is no money in Nigeria to educate its masses? The 20th century physicist- Albert Einstein wrote that “Education is not the learning of facts but the training of the mind to think”- so as an individual that have received little education, I’ve been engaging myself in some serious thoughts on whether it was possible for the federal government to declare bankruptcy if it decides to cough out a paltry N1.2 trillion spread over three years on the education sector when each senator and member of the house of representatives earn at least $1.7m and $1.2m respectively amounting to over N3 trillion per annum in a country where 10 million children are out of school. What calibre of student occupies the executive position of the association? Which school do they attend? What level are they? What’s their course of study? What are the criteria for becoming a member or an executive of NANS? What are the short and long term objectives of NANS? Who were the Nigerian students that agreed that the governor of Ondo state- Olusegun Mimiko was the best governor of the Nigerian students? What were the criteria involved? How was the conclusion reached? Was it through a vote? If yes, who voted? Where did the voting take place? Was it online or offline? How does NANS organize students for mobilization and protests if it neither has a website nor a Facebook account or does it go about it via phone calls or text messages to all 60 million Nigerian students? As a student body, who acts as NANS staff adviser(s)? Politicians or Lecturers? How does NANS get its funding? How are the funds utilized? Who does NANS report to? Has there been any case of financial misappropriation among its members? If yes, who? When? And what actions were taken against the person(s) involved? These are begging questions that needs sincere answers from the leadership of the association. If the questions above have answers, where are they and why are they so elusive not to be within the reach of the Nigerian students? If Nigerian students pressure ASUU to call off the strike, I would not want us to forget that since the establishment of ASUU in 1978, it had embarked on strikes in 1988, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013 over similar issues as the present one which makes it evident that if this problem is not solved once and for all knowing fully well that the country has the resources to heed to its demand, our children will probably be in our present predicament in a matter of years. This is a clarion call to fellow students in all tertiary institutions across the country to demand for a body that will serve to protect our interests, speak on our behalf and sincerely represent us in order to help build an education for all society. Until then, our heads are soaked, please NANS, stop the urine. Source: www.adeyemiolalemi. |
As the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) industrial action enters the eleventh week, the University of Lagos main campus- Akoka has totally changed from what is used to be when the school is in session, it is now as silence as a grave yard, looking like a desolate ground, a complete shadow of itself. It is interesting to note that the university which is expected to show class in research and learning has taken a break from her core goals, students sit back at home, few lecturers are seen in the school while some just stay in their offices with little or no motivation, and some preferred to stay at home. A visit to the Akoka campus, sighted close to the bank of the Lagos lagoon during session and then another visit to the same campus now, will leave one with myriad of questions such as “where the 8 o’ clock morning lectures are, the beautiful campus girls with skinny jeans, spaghetti tops, dangling ear rings, cosmetic bags and a pair of higher education notes. One imagines how come the campus has become so scanty, no sight of the ‘sagging’ students of the university with “pencil jeans” of all kinds and with the popular ‘galas’ haircut. The daily long queue for cabs at the faculty of education has suddenly disappeared; the different colourful and stylish dresses that usually turn the cab park to a fashion ground are no more. No more daily row between cab operators and students as cab operators now park their vehicles with frustrated looks on their faces considering the reduction in their daily earnings caused by the ASUU strike. The ever crowded New Hall, due to the five hostels and supermarkets situated at that axis is now as quiet as a GRA. Classes and many offices are under locks and keys, the ever busy double-lane campus road, now witness fewer vehicular movement. The Unilag security men now do less work in enforcing law and order as no one is around to break the laws, no more night for "two's" at the Access bank fences and veranda. The Unilag senate building, adjudged to be the biggest senate house in any Nigeria University with eleven floors, no longer receives large number of visitors as it used to, these further validate the reason for installing fire extinguishing gadget in the building which requires less movement of people in and around the building during installation. It’s amazing to realize that the liveliest and most bubbling Akoka campus of the University of Lagos due to the civilisation and its location at the centre of excellence is currently the most boring site in Lagos right now. No more night clubbers and Aristos trooping in and out of the campus. Few students in the hostels cited writing of their projects as justification for staying on campus while some simply say “home is boring” and console themselves that school is still better than staying at home. No doubt, the ASUU strike has paralysed many activities on our campuses, rendered people idle as many students have lost motivation for reading because of the indefinite nature of the strike. With all these analyses, it is clear that learning, research, productivity and economic activities have been shut down for more than two months due to the strike. This is the present state of the University of First Choice and Nation's pride-Unilag after a prolonged strike by ASUU. As we wait in optimism to an end to this impasse between ASUU and the Federal Government; it is hoped that fellow students would make judicious use of their inevitable stay at home. Many have cried out against US military strike against Syrian government for killing her own people with chemical weapon that has been banned for many years I disagree totally, after I saw videos of how about 1400 people, which includes children and women, died gradually, after suffering from the effect of sarin gas. The UN investigation team has now confirmed the use of Chemical weapon, which from all indication is used by the Al Assad regime due to so many facts and calculations from the casualty recorded which are mainly civilians and opposition. It was also confirmed that Syrian Government bombed the site of the assault for 3 days just to ensure no trace of chemical weapon is left. The UN secretary General, Ban ki Moon, confirmed the use of chemical weapon and said it is a war crime and those who used it must be punished. Only Russia has vetoed UN security council resolution against US military strike in Syria. Why? it is obviously for selfish reasons because Russia is the main supplier of arms and ammunitions to Syria and Russia had signed an agreement with Syria to allow it increase and expand its Naval and Military base along the Mediterranean sea using Syrian border. No doubt it is all about the world politics rather than love or sympathy for those whose who lost their lives in the Aug 21 assault. Imagine if Syria was attacked, Russia revenue from arms sales will dwindle and reduce her military prowess in the middle east, Russia has signalled in many diplomatic engagement that they are enemy of the west and will always be against its action whether for the benefit of all or not. Russia has however asked Syria to surrender its chemical weapons to international control to avert the imminent US military strike. A condition, President Obama is considering carefully. Some have called President Barrack Obama "a bully" and whose attack on syria will amount to aggression but in the history of America, Obama has withdrawn huge number of US soldiers from abroad- Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, an indication that he is not a man after war or military aggression rather, he is a man of peace. Let's call him a bully, bully for the benefit of America or the safety of the world in general, what does America stand to gain? Oil? Some may argued that if America strike, Israel who is America's 'best friend' will benefit greatly from the destablization of Syria, but on the long run, Syria will become stable after a democratic set up. On the believe that opposition are being sponsored by terrorist group like Al Qaeda, should the world (UN) who spent Billions of dollar in aids to cater for millions of Syrian refugees fold its hands and watch war crime against women and children? close her eyes on impunity of the highest order. If President Al assad is not punished, how can those innocent civilians get justice and then the big question of "Can President Al assad continue to govern the people who don't want him? There is no doubt that anyone who had spent a night on UNILAG campus (Akoka) will have had bitter experiences with the activities of mosquitoes on campus. There are mosquitoes everywhere at the main campus, from Halls of residence to faculties and recreational centres. However students are left to struggle with this and the sickness it causes while some students use a mosquitoes treated net, others use coil while some others never mind the mosquitoes and its consequences. Elkanemi Hall, one of the oldest halls of residence in the school and New hall which house five (5) undergraduate hostels are referred to as the base of these mosquitoes by some of the residence, this is because of the large number of mosquitoes in those halls which can be attributed to the drainage channels and grasses behind the hostels respectively If drastic measures are not taking to ensure a cleaner and mosquitoes-free campus, we will continue to see more students visit the medical centre than classes. Research shows that malaria is a life threatening diseases and that 90% of all malaria deaths occur in sub-Saharan Africa in which Nigeria in included. The school management should fumigate the University campus before the beginning of every semester. The management should also stage a prevention awareness campaign on malaria and everyone in the university community should be encouraged to make the campus cleaner. “it will be a big shame to see a student die of malaria contacted from campus” Let’s all take the battle against malaria seriously after all, there are states without mosquitoes. By Adeyemi Olalemi (Press Club UNILAG) In a bid to ensure that University Of Lagos is not changed to Moshood Abiola University by President Goodluck Jonathan The students and alumni of the university had filed a case in federal high court ikoyi and had also been signing an online petition against the move by the Federal Government. The online petition with the URL: www.gopetition.com/petitions/referendum-against-unilag-change.html/ currently has more than 13,000 signatures and it is believed that 50,000 signatures may be needed to override the President move. In a chat with one of the moderators of the petition Tobi Kupoluyi, he confirmed that the three moderators of the online petition are all alumni of College of Medicine, University of Lagos. He said “The petition, or referendum as we prefer to call it, is genuine. The website allows us to extract the details of the signatures as a printable document which can be presented in court, to the national assembly or to the press. It is a documented evidence of the refusal of the name change. He further said they had initiated contact with other lawyers especially those that have filed a suit against the FG. ” We got in touch with Barrister Oluyinka Oyeniji, the first lawyer to file a suit. He acknowledged our tool as a powerful one and he also signed it. We have also gotten in touch with the Alumni Association and they have also endorsed it. He enjoined all students and those who support this cause to drive more traffic to the referendum page, that more signatures will go a long way. We discourage people signing more than once, but each person can get at least 5 people to sign. It is best to have this tool available so when our lawyers need it, it is there for their use. We will appreciate if the current students can increase the awareness of this and share the links on their facebook and twitter pages, BlackBerry and verbally on campus. You might be encouraged to know that former University of Lagos VC Prof. Ibidapo-Obe already signed this referendum. You will recall that, President Goodluck Jonathan’s announced during Democracy day speech on the May 29, 2012 that University of Lagos has been changed to Moshood Abiola University. The decision which the FG describe as a step to honour the Late Moshood Abiola, did not go down well with the students and Staffs of the University as the Student rushed out en-mass to protest against the change of the institution name. |
