No fewer than 12 persons cheated death yesterday when the commuter bus in which they were traveling, suddenly caught fire at Amaraku, Isiala Mbano Local Council area of Imo State and burnt to ashes.It was not clear at the time of this report, where the bus was coming from or where it was heading to, before the mishap.A man, who claimed to be an eye witness, said the bus driver did not even know that his bus was on fire until a by-stander raised an alarm.“The vehicle driver did not even know that his vehicle was on fire. It was a by-stander that raised the fire alarm. The occupants managed to escape into safety before the bus went up in flame”, the man recounted.He recalled that some sympathizers brought out their fire extinguishers and expended them on the blazing fire.“Several drivers brought out their fire extinguishers and tried to put out the fire but it did not achieve the desired result”, the man recounted.Speaking further, the man said “we expected to see at least, a fire fighting vehicle but none came. The police and Road Safety officials were conspicuously absent. Traffic kept flowing because some volunteers ensured it did”, the man said.

Prophet T.B. Joshua has released a video via his YouTube channel Emmanuel TV showing a purported prophecy he gave regarding the disappearance of AirAsia Flight 8501 in Indonesia this morning.

"I have a message for the nation, Indonesia,” Joshua is seen telling congregants in the video. “When it comes to this disaster issue, I don’t want to mention it,” the cleric continued, before calling on the faithful to pray for the Asian nation.

“It looks so nasty to me to mention - a situation where it will cost a lot of lives, suddenly,” he went on. “This is a crash. Why should this continue to happen there?”

Joshua goes on to point to a problem in the ‘geographical atmosphere’, calling on the relevant authorities to ‘look into it’.

Early in the morning on Sunday 28th December 2014, an AirAsia passenger jet carrying 162 people lost contact with Indonesian air traffic control.

The plane went missing after pilots asked to change course to avoid bad weather during a flight from Indonesia's Surabaya city to Singapore.

On board were 155 Indonesians, three South Koreans and one each from Singapore, Malaysia and Britain, plus a French pilot.

“We pray that God would strengthen the friends and family members of all those involved in this tragic incident,” Joshua wrote at the end of the YouTube clip.

Mothers would be scared after reading this!! A primary school teacher who illegally draw blood from 21 pupils during a break period, she had stored the blood in bottles and threaten the pupils with assault and death if they reported the incidents to their parents. An AirAsia flight from the Indonesian city of Surabaya to Singapore lost contact with air traffic control on Sunday, Indonesian media said, citing a Transport Ministry official.

Transport Ministry official Hadi Mustofa said the aircraft, flight number QZ 8501, lost contact with the Jakarta air traffic control tower at 6:17 a.m local time. (6.17 p.m. EST).

The Airbus 320-200 had 155 passengers and crew on board, another Indonesian Transport official said.

Mustofa said the plane had asked for an unusual route before it lost contact.

The flight had been due in Singapore at 8:30 a.m. Singapore time (0030 GMT). The Singapore airport said on its website the status of the flight was "delayed".

Still on the ongoing Africa Music Awards, Yeni Kuti , the first child and daughter of late Afro beat king, Fela Anikulapo Kuti just stirred a thunderous noise as she tripped on the stage while heading to collect an award on behalf her late father.

Fela was honoured with a life achievement award and his daughter stepped on the stage to receive it on behalf of her dad, before she tripped and fell.

Topping it all, she goofed when trying to express her joy to be taking home an award on behalf of her father.

Worse still, the presenter of the award, although a non-Nigerian wasn't well informed as she was so carried away calling on the Late music legend, Fela Kuti, to come on stage and pick the award.

This triggered the guests to a loud laughter as they wondered where Fela would come out from to grab the recognition award.

North Korea issued a statement on its official state news agency on Saturday denouncing Sony Pictures Entertainment’s release of the movie “The Interview.” It called President Barack Obama the “chief culprit” who forced the production company to “indiscriminately distribute” the picture.
The statement attributed to the National Defense Commission also denounced the United States for blaming North Korea for a hacking attack on the moviemaker earlier this month.

“If the U.S. is to persistently insist that the hacking attack was made by the DPRK, the U.S. should produce evidence without fail, though belatedly,” the statement publish by KCNA said.

In the screwball comedy, a tabloid journalist, who is granted an interview with the communist dictatorship’s leader, is asked to assassinate him. But when he arrives, a fictional version of dictator Kim Jong Un, played by actor Randall Park, charms him.

In the end, the journalist confronts the fictional Kim over abuses in the country, and kills the leader, when the two do battle.

Sony Pictures IT systems were hacked by a group calling itself “Guardians of Peace” or GoP, which complained about the pending release of the movie. The FBI has blamed North Korea for that cyberattack.

Threats were also issued that there would be 9/11 style attacks on theaters that showed the film.

The movie was not released as scheduled, and Sony Pictures later said film distributors had decided not to show the movie for security reasons.

President Obama expressed disappointment over the move, saying free speech had not been upheld.

Sony then arranged for direct distribution online via its own services, YouTube and through independent cinemas.

Three persons including a female sex worker and her clients were Thursday midnight burnt to death as a mysterious fire razed a popular commercial sex spot near Orhowhurun Roundabout, Udu local government area, Delta state.

Properties worth millions of naira were also reportedly lost to the inferno which also gutted adjoining trading shops and residential buildings.
Cause of the incident was still in doubt when Saturday Vanguard got to the scene but speculations were rife that the fire began at about 1am, Boxing Day, from one of the rooms occupied by one of the commercial sex workers at a popular brothel in the area.

Corpses of the victims, one young man and that of a young lady believed to be in her thirties were burnt beyond recognition, sympathizers explained.

The raging fire, it was gathered, extended to other apartments and near-by buildings through electricity cables, taking out provisions, electric and pharmaceutical shops in the affected buildings.

“Corpses of the lady and most likely her male client were found on the same spot”, a witness told Saturday Vanguard after their remains were taken to an undisclosed morgue.

Victims and sympathizers were seen lamenting the unfortunate fire.

Weeks after the shooting of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown, police in another St. Louis suburb have reportedly shot and killed an 18-year-old black teenager at a gas station. A statement released by the St. Louis County Police says Martin was shot after he pulled a gun and pointed it at officers as they approached him outside the gas station;

"Fearing for his life, the Berkeley officer fired several shots, striking the subject, fatally wounding him," the statement said.
A second person reportedly fled the scene. Police have recovered the gun they say belonged to Martin. An investigation into the incident is ongoing. Crowd is already gathering at the scene.

In its renewed fight against maritime crimes in the country and the Gulf of Guinea, the Nigerian Navy,NN, is expecting two ships from China and the United States of America before the end of year 2014.
To this end, the NN said it had enhanced its operational efficiency by way of sustaining its prioritization of training and human capital development.
In his welcome address at the occasion of the Navy ceremonial sunset and 2014 end of year ball held at the NNS Quorrah, Apapa Lagos, the Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jubrin disclosed, aside ensuring safety in the maritime domain, the NN was also working closely with sister services in the area of countering insurgency and all forms of insecurity across the country.
Jubrin stated that the NN had recorded some achievement in its policing duties and implementation of transformation plan , which he said has led to the drastic reduction of crude oil theft and other maritime crimes.
In furtherance of its mandate, the NN he said , had extended the frontiers of its cooperation with both local and foreign agencies and organisations, as it recently hosted the meeting of the Chiefs of Naval Staff from Togo , Benin Republic, and the head of Gendarmerie from Niger a part of efforts to enhance regional cooperation in the area of maritime security.
In spite of the progress, Jubrin noted that a lot still remained to be done in view of where the NN is coming from and where it aimed to be. For instance, he said basic infrastructure such as jetties and repair facilities were inadequate and would need augmenting and rehabilitation, as well as supply of material such as Petroleum oil and lubricants and spares for the the regular maintenance of the new platforms the navy was acquiring.
“Though this demands are heavy, the consequences of neglecting them are more dire especially for a nation like Nigeria whose livelihood and well being are very closely tied to the maritime environment”
The occasion was also used to honour a total of 58 officers, comprising 17 Rear Admirals, 25 Commodores, nine Captains, three commanders and four lieutenant commanders who retired from the Nigerian navy within year 2014.

A heavy duty truck, conveying crates of soft drinks, yesterday, at the Okorodafe Roundabout in Ughelli, Delta State, crushed a four-month-old baby girl, who had fallen off the back of her mother travelling on a commercial motorcycle, popularly known as Okada.According to witnesses, the mother of the baby, who is in her 30s and simply identified as Ese, was said to have been struggling to adjust the wrapper with which she strapped the baby to her back, while the Okada was in motion.One of the witnesses, identified as Efemena Okiemute, told Vanguard that the baby fell on the middle of the road and was immediately crushed by the truck, which was directly behind the Okada.When Vanguard visited the scene, officials of Ughelli Command of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, were seen clearing the remains of the dead baby from the road.

In a bid to affirm the new law of ‘no begging’ in Lagos, the Lagos state government has done something drastic to 70 beggars recently.
Sahara Reporters made it known that the Lagos State government has deported 70 northerners who were found publicly begging; an act which has been banned in the state.
The beggars were said to have been bundled out of Lagos state where they were stationed and are presently in Kano State.
However, a local Hausa radio program monitored in Kano, made it known that the deportees complained that they were held for months and exposed to hardship before they were brought to Kano.
Some of them were said to be originally from Niger, Kebbi, Jigawa, Kaduna, Sokoto and Zamfara states.
It would be recalled that just few days ago, three fake beggars landed in trouble while trying to extort money from unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of being blind in Delta state.

The armed robber takes your money from you with a gun in his hand: the pastor takes your money by brandishing a bible.
Jesus berated the mercenary religious leaders of biblical days. He told them: “‘It is written, my house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’” (Matthew 21:13).
This word remains pertinent to pastors in the churches of today. They come up with all kinds of schemes designed to squeeze money out of their church-members. They search the scriptures, looking for quotable quotes that can be used to make merchandise of men. Some of their favourites are those scriptures dealing with giving first-fruits to priests.
Fleecing the flock
Those months with names ending with “ember” in English are sometimes referred to as the “ember” months. These include September, October, November and December. Strictly-speaking, October does not fit this bill; otherwise it would have been called “Octoember.” Nevertheless, it is conventional also to include it as one of the “ember” months.
In these months, there is a definite change of emphasis in the messages preached by pastors in many of today’s new generation churches. If you have been paying attention, you would have noticed this already. In the “ember” months, pastors start to talk repeatedly about the need to give “first-fruits;” laying down the foundation for a major robbery routinely planned for January.
In the Old Testament, first-fruits were required to be given to priests. Ezekiel says: “The best of all the first-fruits and of all your special gifts will belong to the priests.” (Ezekiel 44:30). This scripture is seized on by today’s money-grubbing pastors who now insist that the “first-fruits” of all the members of their congregation must be handed over to them.
This is disingenuous because, in the New Testament, there is actually no longer an exclusive priesthood. Instead, Jesus has made all believers: “kings and priests to our God.” (Revelation 5:10). But this fact is conveniently ignored by today’s first-fruits collectors.
First-fruits were given to priests because they were not allowed to own landed-property in Israel. God said: “I am to be the only inheritance the priests have. You are to give them no possession in Israel; I will be their possession.” (Ezekiel 44:28-29).
However, the pastors of today are men of means and property owners. In no way whatsoever do they fit the bill of a people without inheritance who only have God as their possession. Indeed, some of today’s mega-pastors are multi-millionaires who drive around with bodyguards in a cortege of Jeeps and even fly around in private jets.
Fruits of money
As the word indicates, first-fruits were strictly-speaking agricultural produce. Moses says: “The first of the first-fruits of your land you shall bring into the house of the LORD your God.” (Exodus 23:19). This shows first-fruits were crops. Indeed, money was never regarded as first-fruit in the bible; neither was it ever paid as such.
However, today’s pastors would not find it funny if you were to bring your first-fruits to them in bananas or pineapples. First-fruits are now only acceptable in cash or cheque. If you ask why, don’t be surprised if you are told that: “Money is the answer to everything.” (Ecclesiastes 10:19).
Scripturally, first-fruits were only required from Jews living in Israel because God gave them their land. First-fruits were inapplicable to Israelites living in foreign lands. This also means first-fruits are inapplicable to today’s Christians who are mostly non-Israelis and do not live in Israel. Nevertheless, pastors hoodwink Christians by claiming there are special blessings attendant upon giving first-fruits to pastors anywhere.
In biblical days, first-fruits were not required from those in non-agrarian trades, such as carpenters or fishermen because these professions were not tied to the land. However, today’s opportunist pastors collect first-fruits from anybody and everybody.
It should be clear from the foregoing therefore that pastors who insist on collecting first-fruits in the churches of today are nothing but thieves and robbers. The armed robber takes your money from you with a gun in his hand: the pastor takes your money by brandishing a bible.
Bonanza
It used to be the case that first-fruits were defined as a Christian’s first salary after leaving school and securing gainful employment. But some pastors quickly realised that this only gives them the right to a Christian’s salary once in a lifetime. Therefore, this soon became inadequate, leading to more ingenious and more financially lucrative biblical “revelations” about first-fruits.
Many pastors now insist that since the January salary is the first in the year, it legally falls under the definition of first-fruits. Therefore, they now require that all church-goers hand over to them their entire January salaries in the name of first-fruits. This makes the first-fruits boon far more profitable than the tithe; which is just a tenth of the Christian’s salary. Moreover, the tithe is nominally given to “the church.” The “first-fruits” is a far more rewarding scam because the money is specifically addressed to the pastor.
If this “godliness” is taught effectively, a pastor can make a bundle of money at the beginning of every year. Just do the maths. Imagine a situation where the pastor gets the January salary of every single member of his congregation. Depending on the size of his church, he can get in one bonanza enough money to last him a lifetime. Is it any wonder, therefore, that pastors are very zealous in preaching about first-fruits in the “ember” months?
Many even refuse to be limited to their churches. Turn onto Christian television such as the Trinity Broadcasting Network in the “ember” months, and you are likely to find Paula White or Steve Munsey extolling the blessings of giving first-fruits. Of course, the first-fruits must be sent to them and to no one else.
Comeuppance
In one of Nigeria’s big churches with a large branch-network, the pastors were making a killing collecting first-fruits. But one of them used the money to put up a church building. This went a long way to endear him to his congregants. Other pastors who had nothing to show for the first-fruits they collected became concerned that the pastor would soon bring them into disrepute. So they decided to take “appropriate” action.
They reported him to the General Overseer of the church. His transgression was that he put up an entire church building single-handedly. So doing, they claimed, he prevented others from getting blessed by not taking contributions from them. The General Overseer wondered where he got the money to erect the entire building by himself. So they told him the money came from the first-fruits he collected from his church-members.
The General Overseer became even more curious. Just how much first-fruit were these pastors collecting? He was astonished to discover the sums involved. It was unacceptable that such lucrative business was taking place in his churches without due recognition for his position. Therefore, he fired a memo to all his parishes: henceforth, all first-fruits must be forwarded intact to headquarters.
However, his memo backfired. Thereafter, his subordinate pastors noticeably lost all interest in collecting first-fruits. “Let everybody shout hallelujah.”
“They are greedy dogs which never have enough. And they are pastors who cannot understand; they all look to their own way, every one for his own gain, from his own territory.” (Isaiah 56:11).

I was watching a debate on TV about this topic and I got confused at the end of the day . My opinion used to be that rather than sending the dying off to assisted suicide ,especially when they are not in serious physical pains, we can let them know that they matter , that they are not a burden to us and finally, that we value them and their presence instead of just letting go with an act of despair. Anyways, they were able to argue it out that assisted suicide is necessary especially in the events of final stages of various cancers and brain deaths. I just want to know what other people think?

Liberia has on Monday, December 15, 2014 reportedly started the treatment of Ebola patients with serum therapy, a treatment made from the blood of people who survived the dreaded Ebola Virus Disease.

Doctors hope the experimental treatment could help combat the virus that has been sweeping West Africa and killing thousands of people, BBC reports.

As at Friday, December, 13, 2014, about 6,841 people had been reported to have died from the disease while the total number of reported cases is over 18,000.

The most recent outbreak of the disease is seen as the most deadly ever in the history of the disease as it has killed thousands of persons.

Health researchers believe that a person who was able to survive the deadly disease has strong antibodies in their blood that can fight the disease.

Against this backdrop, doctors take a sample of the survivor’s blood and turn it into serum by removing the red blood cells but keeping the important antibodies so as to treat other patients diagnosed with the disease.

Doctors in Liberia will monitor how safe and effective the serum treatment being given at the ELWA Hospital in Monrovia is.

Quite a handful of doctors have been trained to give the therapy to patients in Liberia.

Meanwhile, patients in the United Kingdom and the United States have already been treated with the therapy before now.

In reaction to the development, the Liberian programme’s director,Dr David Hoover, said, “This will empower local health care systems to become more self-sufficient and better serve their patients during this current epidemic as well as in the future.”
