The industrial dispute at Radio Bayelsa, christened Glory FM, took a twist on Thursday as the General Manager flogged four staffers on duty. The Radio Bayelsa Chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, and Radio Television and Theatre Arts Workers Unions, RATTAWU, consequently shut the radio station. Some reports had said the staffers were whipped by suspected thugs. Tonye Yemoleigha, NUJ Chairman in Radio Bayelsa told the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, on Thursday in Yenagoa that he and three female staff were caned by the General Manager of the Station, Mr John Idumange. “Four of us, myself and three female staff were flogged by Idumange himself. The report that it was thugs is inaccurate. It was the General Manager himself. The blisters on the skin are more severe for the ladies. “We have reported the matter to the Ekeki Police Division and sought medical attention at the Federal Medical Centre, Yenagoa. Workers have been constantly intimidated and threatened for no just cause. Mr. Idumange declined to comment on the allegation that he caned the four members of staff. The NUJ Chairman said: “Mr. John Angese, Bayelsa Council Chairman of NUJ who is a staff of Radio Bayelsa has also been threatened with a sack, we are all being victimised for insisting that the General Manager complies with Public Service rules. “We have been under siege since the General Manager was appointed on December 6, 2016. We are not opposed to repositioning the station which is in our interest but we want the procedure to follow due process,” Mr. Yemoleigha said. NAN reports that after the station went off air, the management mobilised armed security men and few employees who rebuffed the strike to reopen the station. The station continued to play music all through as the station’s scheduled programmes and news bulletin could not be aired. Mr. Yemoleigha said that workers of the station are not opposed to staff redeployment. “But the unions should also be part of the process to ensure that the best hands are not sacrificed on the altar of nepotism, sentiment or witch-hunt. “We are also aware of the alleged over N5 million naira payroll fraud which Idumange claimed to have uncovered and has referred to the Police for investigation. “Ordinarily, in line with established procedures, an Investigative Panel should have been instituted to look into the matter and come up with a report with which management would act as appropriate. “All these are expressly spelt out in the Public Service Rules; however, we are requesting for a copy of the police report after their investigation. “We have asked management to properly discipline everyone involved in an established case of running the salary of a staff who resigned with effect from August 2016,” Mr. Yemoleigha said Mr. Idumange dismissed the allegations levelled against him. He said that the unions were being used to sabotage his efforts at re-positioning the station which was in a deplorable state before his appointment. He refused to speak on the allegations that he flogged staffers of the station. He told NAN that there was no going back on his reform efforts as they have received the blessings of the supervising Bayelsa Ministry of Information. “This small radio station has 346 workers; employment and job placement have never followed due process, we are currently reorganising the place and they are resisting our efforts. “Those ghost workers must be fished out and the payroll cleaned up. “The wage bill of the station is N35 million monthly and it is not sustainable. My predecessor incurred a debt of N40 million. “The unions are being instigated by the Heads of Department affected in the illegal recruitment, and those who came into that place through the back door,” he said.

Jonah Okah's Arrest And Detention, Another Classical Case Of Dickson's Aversion To Critics Governor Henry Seriake Dickson will go down in history as Bayelsa's most intolerable governor, one averse to criticism and acting tyrannical when faced or confronted with his administration's actus-reus.okah When some unemployed graduates requested he considers lifting the embargo on employment so they could be gainfully employed a few years ago, they were rewarded with incarceration, charged with unlawful assemblage, and intent to cause a breach of public peace. These poor fellows were compelled to be appearing in court, even when it was obvious they had empty pockets and thus paying transport fares for such vain expedition was a herculean task. It took the outcry of the public, coming with waves of condemnation over Dickson's insensitivity to their plight, before the trumped up charges against the promising youths were dropped. Sir Tonye Okio, a very fierce critic of the Dickson's administration and a Sylva loyalist, was picked up from his Abuja residence in a commando-like style, dragged down to Yenagoa like a common criminal and hauled into detention, and subsequently spent 86 tortuous days unjustly at the Okaka prison. His offence? A comment against Dickson on facebook. Melford Duamunabo Esinte, a Sylva loyalist also suffered the same fate, sharing prison cell with Tonye Okio over a Facebook comment Dickson thought uncharitable to his person. Eng. Fakuma Illagha was also shown the four walls of the prison cell, himself a Sylva loyalist. On Wednesday 30th, August 2016, Barr Jonah Okah was arrested on the order of the Bayelsa state governor, in what could at most be a case of libel, a bailable offence and he remained in detention for that day on the grounds that the state police commissioner was out of town and thus cannot be granted bail until the CP returns to endorse his bail. By Thursday morning 1st September, 2016, he was hurriedly arraigned before a magistrate court, and charged with criminal libel and intent to breach public peace, a charge he pleaded not guilty to. But to show the governor's culpability in the judicial persecution, an action I find asinine, the prosecuting counsel objected to the bail application of Jonah's counsel, on what ground for a bailable offense? Then as Dickson's obnoxious trademark is, using the state's judiciary against his critics, the very judiciary he desecrated by leading thugs to sack a court in session, the magistrate, Pere Bossa, adjourned to 20th September when the bail application would be considered and ordered him remanded in prison. There, Dickson's objective has been well served, another critic has been thrown behind bars, this was clearly captured by the comment of Francis Agbo, Dickson's media aide, who couldn't contain his joy over Jonah's arrest and detention, his response as expressed on his facebook page was, "good riddance to bad rubbish" Jonah Okah without mincing words, has been a thorn on Dickson's flesh like the constant northern star, never failing to lend his voice to the harmony of voices speaking out against the governor's anti-people's policies and malfeasance in governance. He was such a problem to the governor, that the governor's social media team had a couple of times, hacked into his facebook account to post contents that had embarrassed Barr. Okah, including pornograhic materials. The phone conversation allegedly created by Barr Okah could as well be a ploy hatched by Dickson and his men to get Jonah off Dickson's back? Besides, one wonders why saharareporters.com and leadership newspapers who broke the story have not been dealt same blow as that which Dickson has landed on Jonah. To think that Dickson and his men have lavishly assassinated the character of Chief Timipre Sylva, without Sylva ever raising a finger against such persons, tells a lot about the level of maturity of both personalities. I demand the unconditional release of Barr. Jonah Okah. http://www.innocentiruka.com/uncategorized/jonah-okah-arrest-detention-another/

Tension in Bayelsa Community over arrest of Monarch by DSS operatives over anti-Agip oil protest. There is rising tension among indigenes of the Agrisaba community in Nembe Local Government area of Bayelsa State over the arrest and detention of the Traditional Ruler, His Royal Highness, Obenema of Agrisaba, King Walter Agri by operatives of the Department of State Security (DSS) over alleged involvement in a protest against the oil multinational, Agip Nigeria Oil Company (NOAC). We gathered that angry youths and Elders of the Community had on Friday staged a protest march against the management of the Nigerian Agip Oil Company (NOAC) over alleged non-payment of compensation over the oil spill, non- payment of contract done for remediation of creek/canal since three year, refusal to award the surveillance contract and clearing of pipe line route to indigenes. The Agip Oil Company was also alleged to have awarded of security surveillance contract to a non-Indigene, pollution of the oil source of drinking water, the failure to honor the MOU, refusal to build police post agreed 5 years ago, refusal to pay compensation for land acquisition and refusal to demarcate the land to avoid dispute with their neighbors. The Elders of the Community, in a statement issued yesterday in Yenagoa and signed by Chief Tobin Esau , alleged that the arrest of their Traditional ruler was preceded by armed invasion of the community by Youths and attacks on over 10 indigenes with various degree of injury. According to the Elders,” The community is a symbolism of peace and tranquility based on the ancient and historic antecedent of our progenitor. The serene nature of the community was distorted after a peaceful protest by the community over the nefarious activities of the NAOC and the total neglect of the community in its developmental agenda on the 6th of August 2016.” http://www.innocentiruka.com/news/tension-oil-arrest-protest/

MAGNUS ABE; A CUNNING /DESPIRATE POLITICAL COMEDIAN By Bright Jossy One keep wondering why Senator Magnus Abe derive so much joy in deceitful and desperate politics. How long will Magnus Abe keep deceiving his myopic followers in his quest for political office? Last time Magnus Abe was so extreme in his ambition for the governorship ticket of APC, that he had to make a movie titled ” Abe and Rubber Bullet “, a political tragicomedy play that featured Nigerian police , a movie that got Abe ficticiously hospitalised abroad, just to seek the sympathy of his political godfather but that also didn’t earn him the ticket of APC, as the pharaoh of Rivers APC and his wife had already betrothed the ticket to their son , Dakuku peterside, which though made it even more easier for the candidate of PDP to floor that of the APC at the 2015 governorship election. In continuation of that political tragicomedy play, Abe deceptively led other APC goons on a protest to Rivers State INEC office while collation of poll results were still ongoing , there they all sat on the floor to seek the sympathy of INEC not to declare Nyesom Wike the winner of the election but that also didn’t work out , as INEC had no reason to do what they were asking for. Still in his known despirate politics , Magnus Abe went as far as sponsoring the burning of his own constituency office building , just to gain sympathy from the electorates, because the impending defeat but that also couldn’t be the antidote to his dwindling political relevance even at his immediate constituency. Though that election was declared inconclusive by INEC because of the epidemic failure of the candidates of APC. Recently, in the build up to the suspended rescheduled rerun election, the INEC office at Magnus Abe’s home LGA (Khana) was set ablaze, just to portray insecurity and secure a shift in the date of the election, because of the unpreparedness of the APC candidates but unfortunately this time they succeeded ,as INEC hinged on that to shift the date indefinitely. The latest drama is the accusation of embezzlement of N4.5b meant for the construction of Kpopie-Bodo road. Recall that the incumbent governor of Rivers state was also the chief of staff of Rivers state government house same time Magnus Abe was the Secretary to state government, when an upfront disbursements of N4.5b was made by Rivers state government under former gov Amaechi for the construction of Kpopie-Bodo road, as a reward for political stewardship and patronage to the then SSG, Magnus Abe but as we speak, that road was abandoned and the funds diverted to private pocket, presently the state government under the leadership of Chief Barr Nyesom Ezenwo Wike – CON , has announced the commencement of the reconstruction of that road but revealed that Magnus Abe had earlier been given N4.5b by the Amaechi administration for same road but the senatorial candidate of the APC for Rivers south east embezzled the fund. While some gullible APC social media agents are deluding themselves in denying the award of the construction of the road to Magnus Abe, some other of them are of the claim that the said road is near completion. http://www.innocentiruka.com/news/magnus-abe-cunning-despirate-political/
