In the simplest English possible, one of the reasons for the creation of the new tax law is to harmonise all other tax laws. There were so many taxes in so many different laws and they decided to put everything in one law. That's all that happened.

They are not imposing a new petrol tax and they are not implementing the old one. What the government has been talking about is reintroducing the toll plazas, not petrol tax.

Tinubu’s government to reintroduce toll gates on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, second Niger Bridge and others
https://metrodailyng.com/tinubus-government-to-reintroduce-toll-gates-on-lagos-ibadan-expressway-second-niger-bridge-and-others/

So they need to remove the money added to the petrol price during the Obasanjo regime after removing the roll plaza

naptu2:
Who said that you are paying another 5% surcharge and what does 5% surcharge have to do with subsidy? How is it related to subsidy?

During Obasanjo regime, do you realized Baba added some amount of money to pms pump price because they demolished toll gates? Let's wait till 2026 if the tax will not reflect on pump price

Nigeria is paying fuel subsidy in 2007 so 5% surcharge won't be a bad idea

Why are we paying another 5% surcharge when there's no fuel subsidy again?.

Why are we paying multiple tax up and down

Companies are paying tax and they already added the money to their products but each time we buy their finished product in the supermarket, we are forced to pay another tax despite the fact that the company has added the tax to the price they are selling their products. I got to know this because when we buy same product from the roadside seller, it's normally the same price with what we buy inside supermarket but the only difference is that road side selle will not issue a receipt or add any tax to it again while the supermarket will add tax to it. Paying tax twice on the same item is not encouraging. Supermarkets are feeling the heat already

Let them start with business people and entrepreneurs first. I actually thought about it yesterday, something like EIN for business in USA.

That would boost online sales as most sellers would need to registered which their EIN which much tally with their names on record

They can start wherever they like but need to stop these stamp duty charges

Paying 50naira stamp duty & still tax us is multiple taxation
