So China unfairly subsidises its exporters in order to make their exports very cheap, yet you don't want Nigeria to take counter measures to support its own manufacturers

I dont understand the antagonism against this law,frankly. No new tax was introduced, no rate was raised, the only thing changing is that all of us must pay! So we wey don dey pay since my adult life be mumu? Did they wait till database was perfect b4 they started charging me tax? Go and import a container from China, what you pay as clearing fee in Nigeria is higher than total cost of freight + clearing at china port. Many of Una argue blindly, some of us argue with facts. Dangote manufacture his cement right here in Nigeria but the selling price is higher than what he sells in other countries simply because government collect as high as 50% of his income from cement as taxes which he openly said that he passed the burden to the final.consumet

He's not paying such excessive taxes in other countries. He's paying about 50% as tax in Nigeria. Let me give you an hint on how Nigeria system is killing business, go and import goods from China and ship it through sea then you will realize the cost of clearing a container in Nigeria is much more higher than total cost of freight + customs charges in China. Imagine a situation whereby cost of clearing at the port in Nigeria is higher than cost of freight & clearing at china port. We have been cheated so much in this country

When some of us opposed this tax law from day one, some APC loyalists called us unprintable names. I decided to share my opinion on my Facebook page instead of on Nairaland.

The way it's structured by the FG, it's a pure fallacy that the poor will not be affected. In fact, the poor will be badly affected.

Forget about databases; the poor masses will end up paying company income tax on behalf of businesses, and they will still pay personal income tax. 80,000 naira cannot sustain a grown man for a month unless he doesn't plan to eat, wash his clothes, pay rent, or spend money on transport. Yet, the government caps taxable income at 66,750 naira. The kind of economy we run in Nigeria doesn't fit all these ill-conceived taxes that the federal government is trying to introduce. I won't say much more. Let them continue with their plan so they can see how they have failed Nigerians and made the people poorer. Over 80% of Nigerians will have nothing left in their accounts at the end of the year because what they earn is not even enough to cater to their basic needs.
