shadeyinka: You are not saying taxes are not to much, yet you say my analysis is wrong. Tell me whose duty it is to provide security and basic amenities such as electricity and water supply to both businesses and the citizenry?.
I am sure you've never done any serious business to know that the probability of a business succeeding in the Nigerian environment is ridiculously low.
No wonder Michelin and Dunlop left Nigeria for Ghana. Our textile industries are in comatose. The biggest battery factory in West Africa is moribund....
Defending a failed Government doesn't make it better: it only maintains status quo. You expect reasonable contribution from someone who still eats from his mummy's pot? bro, leave that boy OK |

nairalaila: Tony Elumelu, Chairman and founder of Heirs Holdings has revealed that the average Nigerian business pays 48 taxes. The UBA Chairman who decried the plight of the average Nigerian entrepreneur, saying that an average business was a local government authority providing his own electricity, water and waste disposal method, called for a far-reaching tax reforms and an urgent need to pass the executive tax bill.
Tony Elumelu who revealed that the average Nigerian business pays 48 taxes while delivering a keynote address at the 21st annual tax conference of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria on Thursday, added that the government should make life easier for Small and Medium Enterprises by creating favourable tax policies that will support them. He called on the government to eliminate the regime of multiple taxation.
He said, “Until there is a reduction in what SMEs pay as tax, elimination of multiple taxation, the abolition of minimum income tax and excess dividend tax, it will be difficult for us to attract investors into this country, and it will be difficult for us to retain the ones already in the country. It will be difficult for us to mobilise our SMEs to help create employment that we need so much in this country. The average number of taxes businesses pay in Nigeria is 48, compared to 33 in other sub-Saharan countries. In Hong Kong, it’s just three. Multiple taxation remains a significant burden for SMEs and corporates operating in the country."

henritinecy: I know this does not concern me but let me state my little opinion here maybe it can help.
1. I finished school in 2008 and wrote jamb between 2008 and 2013. My brother 5 consecutive JAMB o. Not that I wasn’t passing the JAMB. I was and the schools were the problem. I was passing the cut off and still, no admission. In 2013, I tried applying to University of Ghana and boom , I got admitted into university of Ghana to study for information technology. Meanwhile when I applied I only submitted my WAEC certificate to them plus my other credentials. No other exam. I got the admission without writing another exam. Without even going to Ghana for them to access me. I graduated 2017 with 2nd class upper in information technology.
2. All through my stay in Ghana, electricity wasn’t an issue. There is constant light. Where I stayed in Accra (west legon to be precise), there is a phone number you call paraventure there is light out. This might be due to bad weather condition or fallen pole or something. They will give you the exact time the light will be restored if you call them. And 30 minutes before that specific time, you will surely see light. And I never all through that time had a 24 hour light out. NEVER. Sometimes for 4 months or 5 months, the light will never go off.
3. My security was guaranteed. Though one needs to be careful, there was never a day I was robbed or had my properties stolen or whatsoever. Sometimes I don’t lock my door when I leave for lecture. So I come back and everything is in shape. Talking about security, I haven’t seen a bank in Ghana (there might be some though but am speaking about me), that has bank security doors (I mean those ones that reject you if you carrying metallic objects). They have the normal open and close glass doors you see in stores.
4. I never had police come harass me to open my phone. Not for one day did a police man stop me to open my laptop or phone for check. So there was this freedom to go anywhere carrying my properties with confidence.
5. I had a car while I was here. And in Ghana you are required to have just 2 papers in your car. Your road worthiness and your insurance. That’s all. So you paste them at the front of your windscreen. So the police wouldn’t be asking me to bring out all my papers when it’s already out there on the screen. I also had an international drivers license which made me not to have issues with respect to being licensed to drive in their country.
Bros, the list still goes on. Yes, they have their own set backs but not limited to high cost of living, some areas being prone to flood, barrier language due to the fact that some of them does not have western education. But after my service , I took all my stuffs and relocated to Ghana. And at the moment, I am working here in Ghana with an IT firm. I am not going to disclose the name of the firm here but if you want to know who is stating these, my username is ; henrytinecy on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter.
Sorry for the errors in my write up. It seems you don't know vitalis, this is why you wrote this long epsitle. |

Politics › Re: Shi'ite Muslims Break Into National Assembly, Chase Police Away (Photos) by yesloaded: 4:48pm On Apr 24, 2019 |
Ndlistic: There is high tension currently at the main gate of National Assembly in Abuja as members of Islamic Movement Of Nigeria (IMN) popularly known as Shi’ites have forced their way into the assembly complex and chased away armed policemen on duty.
Members of the movement were initially peaceful in their conduct although they were chanting anti-government songs from outside the gate.
But situation turned awry when some of them suddenly descended on the gate, shaking it vigorously until they succeeded in forcing it open, almost causing a stampede because of the crowd.
Some of the policemen attached to the gate tactically took to their heels, as the protesters trooped in with chants of 'Alahu Akbar'.
It took the appeal of leaders of the movement to stop the crowd from advancing into chambers of the assembly proper.
Despite provocation by the protesters, the Police remained calm and peaceful, and only pleaded with them not to go into the chamber.
