Sinedu claiming LUKMAN
PoliticsWe Steal Children In Ilesa, Ondo, Sell For ₦‎500,000 In Anambra — Suspects by Yibo(op): 6:07pm On Jan 19, 2025
Three suspects allegedly involved in child trafficking have been arrested by men of the Ondo State Police Command following a sting operation.

The three-member child trafficking syndicate, identified as Lukman Isiaka, 43; Abosede Olanipekun, 23; and Sabira Izuorah, 68, were apprehended with no fewer than 14 babies and toddlers stolen from Akure, the state capital, and Ilesa, Osun State.

The babies and toddlers were recovered from the ‘orphanage’ of Izuorah in Ihiala, Anambra State, where they were trafficked by Lukman and Abosede, who are both a couple.

Among the stolen babies were three weeks old, two weeks old, and two months old, among others.

While being paraded at the police headquarters in Akure, Izuorah, who claimed to have retired as a Director from the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, Anambra State, admitted to having received the children from the couple.

She said, “I have a registered orphanage. I took care of children. The name of my orphanage is Clarion Children’s Care and Reforms Initiatives, and it started full operation in 2020.

“Lukman and his wife brought a total of 11 children to me. I don’t pay them; it is the adoptive parents who pay them. The adoptive parents don’t pay me; they give us food items and supplies.

“I stopped Lukman and his wife from bringing children for me in November 2024. All the children were no longer with me, but I went to recover them from their adoptive parents. It didn’t start with me, and it will not end with me.”

While confessing to being involved in the crime since 2023, Lukman, a bricklayer, stated that Izuorah introduced him and his wife to the illicit trade when he left Ondo State to work in Anambra.

According to him, Izuorah always paid him N500,000 per child, which she in turn sold to her prospective buyers for N1 million and above.

He said, “I have been stealing children since 2023. I have given a total of 11 children to Izuorah. The method my wife and I use to steal the children is when we are going, and we see any child roaming about, we call them and say we will buy soft drinks and biscuits for them.

“After telling them that, they will follow us. After walking for about 10 minutes, we will board a bike to the park, where we will board a vehicle to Anambra State to give Izuorah the children.

“She normally gives us N500,000 for each child that we bring to her. I met Izuorah when we went to Anambra to work. I’m a bricklayer. She was the one who introduced me to the business after training me, and since then, I have been giving her children.

“I don’t know anything about the two-month-old and four-month-old babies. She is the one who can say where she got them from. I only operate in Akure, Ondo State, and Ilesa, Osun State.”

The Commissioner of Police in the State, Wilfred Afolabi, who hailed the spirited effort of the police operatives in rescuing the victims, stated that intelligence-led policing made the operation a success when Lukman and Abosede were traced to Ottah village in Edo State, where they were arrested.

Afolabi added that the arrested couple led the police operatives to Anambra State, where Izuorah was arrested and moved to Akure.

“A case of a missing child was reported at Okuta Elerin-Nla Division in Akure. A complainant reported that Abosede deceived her by claiming she wanted to buy biscuits for the baby.

“Meanwhile, Lukman distracted the complainant by engaging her in a personal conversation and requested that she follow him to Olukayode Plaza in the market to get a mobile phone. On getting to the market area, he abandoned her and left. When the complainant returned to the shop, she discovered that her child was missing, with no trace of Abosede, the supposed sister of the man she followed to the market; thus, a report was made at the Division.

“During interrogation, the suspects admitted to abducting the child and other children from Ondo and Osun States and selling them to Sabira Izuorah, aged 62 years, in Ihiala, Anambra State, at the rate of One Million Naira (₦1,000,000) per child.”

The police commissioner, however, stated that some children are currently on the missing list while efforts are ongoing to locate and rescue them. He added that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has filed a petition against Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, before the National Judicial Council, accusing her of judicial misconduct in handling his trial.

The petition, dated 13 January 2024, was addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, who also serves as the Chairman of the NJC.

Kanu alleged that Justice Nyako’s actions during his trial had caused him “incalculable and continuing damage,” including the deprivation of his liberty.

Justice Nyako is presiding over the seven-count terrorism charges brought against Kanu by the Federal Government.

The petition, supported by an affidavit sworn to by Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, detailed allegations of misconduct, including the judge’s refusal to reinstate Kanu’s bail, which he argued was a violation of the Constitution.

In the petition, Kanu stated, “Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako currently presides over Court 2 of the Federal High Court, Abuja Division.
Her conduct amounts to judicial fraud and non-adherence to the Constitution and established rules of law.

“Her refusal to reinstate my bail despite the Supreme Court’s determination constitutes disobedience to Section 287(1) of the Constitution, which mandates all authorities and courts to enforce decisions of the Supreme Court.”

Kanu further accused the judge of disregarding constitutional provisions and the rule of law, describing her conduct as a violation of his fundamental rights.

The petition read in part, “Wherefore, the complainant prays the Council to discipline Her Lordship, Honourable Justice Binta Murtala-Nyako in accordance with the pertinent rules for disciplining erring judicial officers.”

The Nigerian Citizens Association in South Africa (NICASA), has condemned the alleged brutal killing of a 50-year-old Nigerian citizen, Jeremiah Okoye, by the country’s police, while in their custody.

Okoye, a native of Eziniffite Nnewi, in Anambra was said to have died while being detained in Limpopo Province, on Jan. 13.

NICASA President-General, Dr Frank Onyekwelu, in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday, said investigations were ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deceased’s death.

“We implore the police authorities to follow the rule of law in discharging their constitutional duties,” he said.

Onyekwelu said that Okoye, who resided at No. 71, Magazyn Street, Polokwane, Limpopo Province, had lived in the country for 22 years.

He said NICASA had officially informed the Nigerian High Commission and Consulate in South Africa, as well as contacted the Okoye family and friends in Limpopo, following the sad incident.

“Nigerian citizens in South Africa say no to police brutality and killings and demand justice for the late Okoye.

“Our lives matter, nationality is not criminality.

“We implore all our citizens to be law-abiding and allow the authorities to utilise all their resources, to unravel the circumstances surrounding the death of Okoye,” he said.

Onyekwelu expressed hope that Okoye’s death would not become another statistic like others before him.

“The death of Nigerians in South Africa, particularly under police custody has become a recurring issue that needs to be stopped.

“We fear that these recurring deaths of Nigerians in police custody, if unchecked, will become a dangerous pattern. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.

Nigerian business mogul and philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze, has assured that Igbo leaders will beg President Bola Tinubu to forgive, and release the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Eze, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Oranto Petroleum, spoke to journalists in Enugu, and absolved Tinubu from Kanu’s ordeal.

He said: “Nnamdi Kanu was detained by Buhari, not Tinubu. Buhari is a hardliner. But we shall beg Tinubu to forgive him. He has the spirit of forgiveness. He has no enemy.

Turning to youths spoiling for war over developments in the country, Prince Eze stated, “They don’t know anything about the war. I was a refugee for three years with my father. I lost seven of my brothers on the battlefield. Those talking about war don’t know anything. My brother, who is the Igwe now, had a bullet in his heart. He was the brigade commander in Arochukwu.

“All these people running about don’t know what it means to fight a war. I was here when Ojukwu declared the Republic of Biafra. They don’t know what war is. It (Kanu’s detention) is not Tinubu’s fault, but Buhari’s fault. But we shall beg Tinubu to forgive. So I appeal to them to exercise patience and continue to cooperate with the government.”
