Troops of Sector 5 of the Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA on Wednesday allegedly killed eight members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its armed affiliate, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), during a crossfire in Anambra State.
It also arrested five suspected group members at Aguluzenechikwu Road, Aguata Local Government Area while driving a black Ford Edge with registration number Abuja ABC 535 AB.
The gallant troops who were on clearance operation to identify IPOB/ESN Ogunka Camp in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State said they came in contact with the irredentists on arrival at the camp.
“During the firefight, the irredentists attempted to flee through their escape route but were engaged by the blocking force neutralising five of the irredentists. Items recovered included Two AK 47 Rifle, One Pump action gun, Four Improvised Explosive Devices(IEDs), and 12V/75 Amp Battery used for detonating the IEDs,” a spokesperson for the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Jonah Unuakhalu, stated.
Unuakhalu disclosed that the five arrested suspects, on reaching the Forward Operating Base (FOB) checkpoint decided to open the barricades to gain access to the base.
He added that the vigilant troops were able to stop them and on further search of the vehicle, one locally made pistol, three live cartridges, and nine mobile phones were recovered.
He stated that earlier on 8 January 2025, while troops were on routine patrol along Orsumoghu – Burrow Pit road in Anambra State, they came in contact with the irredentists, neutralising three.
“On further scan of the area, two IED cylinders about to be buried by the roadside by the irredentists were discovered. In the process of detonating the IED it exploded and one soldier paid the supreme price,” he said.
Unuakhalu said troops of Sector 1 responded to a distress call of kidnapping activities of passengers travelling along the Igbo Eze Local Government Area of Enugu State and the boundary between Enugu and Kogi States.
“The combined troops comprising the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force and other security agencies moved swiftly into action and went in pursuit of the kidnappers through their escaping route forcing them to release all the kidnapped passengers in batches with the last two of their victims released yesterday,” he said.
“Efforts are still ongoing to discover the kidnapper’s den.”
He said that Operation UDO KA has intensified the fight against illegal oil bunkering, with troops of Sector 4 deployed at Egbema West in Imo State conducting an anti-illegal bunkering operation.
“During the operation, troops discovered an illegal oil bunkering site with Fifteen cooking drums, Five reservoirs containing approximately 5,000 litres of illegal refined Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK), 1,500 liters of Automotive Gas Oil (AGO), and a hose of approximately 2km long which were destroyed immediately,” he said.
Unuakhalu said that the Force Commander Joint Task Force South East Operation UDO KA Major General Hassan Dada has called on all well-meaning citizens to continue supporting the Joint Task Force by providing timely, reliable, and credible information to make the South East region peaceful. https://guardian.ng/news/nigeria/metro/troops-kill-eight-ipob-members-recover-arms-in-anambra/

gidgiddy: I really thought by now you guys would all know by now that all these are lies the security forces are telling you people to make it look like they are working?
Nigeria is getting worse every day, the security forces are busy telling you people lies and propaganda, and you people cannot put two and two together as to why Nigeria is amongst the top 10 most insecure countries on earth?
They tell you that the have destroyed hundreds of camps, but cannot show you a single picture of a camp
They tell you they have killed criminals but cannot show you any dead bodies
They only thing they can show you is neatly arranged guns, along with what they want you to believe are bombs, plus statement
Anyone can arrange anything they like, take pictures and release statement. If these things had been bombs, do you think the Nigerian security forces would have ever risked their lives to pick them up and arrange them for photo shoot?
It's so easy for the Nigerian security forces to fool Nigerians as insecurity gets worse every day ndo sorry |

A Joint Security Team comprising the Police, Military, and other Security Agencies has killed five suspected criminals in Anambra State. Operatives of the joint force also invaded and razed a camp operated by the criminal gang, from where they carried out their operations.
The Spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed this in a press release he made available to DAILY POST in Awka, the Anambra State capital. He said the incident occurred on 14th January 2025 at 12:30 pm in Umuogem, Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He said: “The team successfully carried out an offensive operation against a suspected armed secessionist gang on Umugem road, Ufuma, Orumba North Local Government Area.
“The team neutralized five members of the armed group, while some others escaped with various degrees of bullet wounds.
“During the operation, the security team razed the criminal camp and recovered four undetonated improvised explosive devices (IEDs), two AK47 assault rifles, one pump-action gun, one 75-volt battery, and other incriminating items.”
Ikenga attributed the success of the operation to the collaboration and coordination among the various security agencies, adding that operations were still ongoing in the area to arrest fleeing gang members.
He quoted the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, as calling for greater cooperation from the people in the area to ensure that criminal gangs are wiped out. https://dailypost.ng/2025/01/15/security-forces-kill-5-criminals-in-anambra-destroy-camp/

Politics › Abducted Anambra Female Banker Killed After Ransom Payment by Yibo(op): 5:24am On Jan 15, 2025 |
A female banker, identified simply as Ifeoma, has been murdered by suspected kidnappers in Anambra State after her family paid a ransom for her release.
The victim was reportedly abducted in Onitsha and stayed several days in captivity before her captors reached out to the family members for ransom.
A family source who craved anonymity disclosed the development to our correspondent on Tuesday, adding that an undisclosed amount of money was received by the kidnappers. Sadly, in the end, she was not released, until her corpse was found along the road.
The source said, “Her corpse was found near Ideani Junction, along the Nnobi-Alor Road in Idemili South Local Government Area. This is even though the abductors collected ransom from the family members.
“She was abducted at a location in Onitsha, but after some days, the kidnappers reached out to the family members and demanded the ransom before the unfortunate news of her death.
“They suspect that she might have recognised the kidnappers and hence they had to eliminate her to avoid being exposed. It’s so unfortunate, the family members are devastated by the news of her death.”
When contacted, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the development, adding that the corpse had been evacuated from the road.
Ikenga said, “The command received the information about an abandoned female corpse found along the Nnobi-Alor Road allegedly dumped by suspected kidnappers.
“The corpse has been evacuated, the pictures have been escalated and investigations have begun to unravel the circumstances behind the death of the victim.”
Meanwhile, the state police command, while reacting to the news of the release of the two Catholic nuns and one other victim kidnapped by some assailants, called on the released victims to come forward for possible debriefing to enable the police to begin proper investigation.
Ikenga, who disclosed this in a press statement on Tuesday, said the command had expressed willingness to work with the victims for necessary action.
He said, “The Anambra State Police Command has expressed willingness to work with the victims of abduction for necessary action, especially in the efforts of the command to continue to deny these criminals the space to wreak havoc and to create a safer environment for citizens in the state.
“The command demonstrates this commitment in response to the news of the release of the two Reverend Sisters recently abducted along the Ufuma Road, Orumba North Local Government and a video of an alleged escape of Mr Onyebuchi Okocha (popularly known as Onyeze Jesus) from a criminal hideout.
“To this end, the command while waiting for the victims to recuperate for possible debriefing by the investigating officers, assures improved security dominance and surveillance operations targeted to enhance safety across the state to deter criminal activities and ensure public safety.” https://punchng.com/abducted-anambra-female-banker-killed-after-ransom-payment/?amp

Igbo groups, known as the Rising Sun Foundation and Ambassadors for Self Determination, have marked 30 months of the detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPoB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, with a renewed call for his unconditional release.
The groups in a statement commended President Bola Tinubu for showing signs of interest in dialogue towards releasing Kanu but pleaded with him to heed the growing calls for Kanu’s release.
Signatories to the statement include Maxwell Dede Emole, Dr Remy Okea, Evans Nwankwo, and Benjamin Nwankwo on behalf of Rising Sun Foundation Inc. USA, and Ambassadors For Self Determination.
They argued that if the Federal Government could discontinue the prosecution of other agitators like Sunday Igboho of the Yoruba Nation; Omoyele Sowore of the Revolution Now Movement; and even Bello Bodejo, the leader of the controversial Miyetti Allah Kyautal Hore; same gesture could be extended to the IPOB leader.
The groups advised Tinubu against selective justice by his predecessors, and break a jinx of freeing Kanu as already ordered by several courts.
They further argued that Kanu’s continued incarceration amounted to the detention of the entire Igbo people whose cause he was defending.
The statement read: “As long as Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains imprisoned, the entire Igbo nation is held captive. This reality cannot persist indefinitely.
“The call for his release is not just a plea for one man’s freedom; it is a rallying cry for the liberation of our entire people from systemic oppression and neglect. We must pray for Kanu’s health and safety, for the consequences of his continued detention could be dire for our collective future.”
Accusing South East political leaders of reluctance and non-committal in the efforts to free Kanu, the groups urged Tinubu not to be misled about the imperative of releasing Kanu.
They expressed concern over Kanu’s failing health and appealed to Tinubu not to allow Kanu to die in detention.
The statement further read:” The Rising Sun Foundation, alongside other conscientious and freedom-loving citizens of the Igbo nation and beyond, can no longer remain silent as our distinguished leader, Onyendu Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, endures the unbearable conditions of detention in Nigeria’s Directorate of State Security Services (DSS).
“As he marks 30 months of unjust incarceration, it is imperative that we amplify our voices against this blatant violation of his rights, especially in light of several court orders demanding his unconditional release.
“The Nigerian government, under President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has recently shown signs of a potential shift toward dialogue regarding Kanu’s release.
“This is a notable contrast to the treatment of other political detainees such as Sunday Igboho of the Yoruba Nation, Omoyele Sowore of the Revolution Now movement, and even Bello Bodejo, the leader of the controversial Miyetti Allah Kyautal Hore.
“These figures have been released and their legal cases dismissed, raising serious questions about the selective application of justice in Nigeria.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu remains the sole political prisoner among them, a situation that is not only perplexing but also indicative of deeper systemic issues within the Nigerian political landscape.
Accuse South leaders of reluctance
“The reluctance of our political leaders-particularly the governors and those aligned with Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo-to advocate for Kanu’s freedom is deeply troubling. Their actions reflect a disheartening trend of prioritizing personal political ambitions over the collective welfare of the Igbo people.
“In public, they may call for his release, yet behind closed doors, they engage in negotiations that ensure his continued imprisonment. This duplicitous behaviour encapsulates the phrase “maramara n-ihu, gwampiti n’azu,” highlighting their tendency to play both sides for their gain.
“As we reflect on the last 30 months, we must recognize that time is of the essence. The world is transforming at a rapid pace, driven by technological advancements in the Internet and Artificial Intelligence, and we must not allow our people to be left behind.
“Mazi Nnamdi Kanu’s detention is not merely a personal tragedy; it represents a broader struggle for the Igbo nation’s identity and future. He has become a symbol of resistance against the marginalization and oppression that we, as a people, have faced for decades.
“The Igbo people are inherently peaceful and progressive. Yet, the hostile environment created by the Nigerian state has compelled us into a struggle for survival.
“It is a time that demands unity, the setting aside of selfish interests for the greater good of our community. This is not merely a matter of belief; it is an urgent reality that calls for collective action and sacrifice.
“Our quest for freedom resonates with the historical struggles faced by other oppressed groups around the world.
“Just as it took immense sacrifices for African Americans to secure their civil rights and for South Africans to dismantle the Apartheid regime, we, too, must be prepared to fight for our liberation-whether within the Nigerian state or as a self-determined entity.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/01/igbo-groups-mark-30th-month-of-kanus-detention/amp/
